Why won't DVD play on one of my authorised computers?

I have made a DVD of downloaded TV series purchased from iTunes, which plays on the computer on which I downloaded it, but when I try to use it on another authorised computer it will not open: the message

Try using an earlier version of iTunes. I tried to use 8.1 and immediately it asked me to authorize each song and then told me my computer was authorized. I re-installed 8.0.1 and then I had to restore the Library as 8.0.1 cannot read the Library 8.1 made. I also tried the deauthorize reauthorize route but to no avail.
What files do I have to restore to use the earlier version of iTunes?
This is the second buggy update--I will now be very careful about updating any Apple software. I had a complete disaster with Leopard 10.5.6 as it really messed up all my email boxes, folders and messages; so I did a system wide restore back to Leopard 10.4.10. I think I am really losing confidence in Apple.

If you can't get it to play from the disc directly, try copying the entire contents to the desktop and trying to run it from there. If it refuses to copy the disc, it usually means the disc is not readable. Could be dirty or damaged.

What exactly is your problem? Is it, (a) your Mac doesn't read your external disk, or, (b) you can't retrieve your videos, or, (c) you can't play them, or, (d) you were able to play them at one point, but not any more.
What version of Mac OS X are you using, what app are you trying to play your videos with, what happens when you do, and what error messages, if any, do you get?

Thanks .Ralph. The problem is only on the iPad 2only. I have an iPad 1 as well and it never had the problem. The only videos that I have tried are you tube and the tutorials on apple.com. I have absolutely no problem on either of my laptops or desktop PC's. Only the iPad 2. I am a new Apple user, so not very familiar yet with the product, but this is an absolute deal breaker for me. With Apple's reputation I was not expecting any such problems and it is beyond my skill set to solve it. Very frustrating. Again, no problem with you tube videos. I don't watch movies, so am not a Netflix member and haven't tried that yet, only you tube videos and apple.com tutorial videos. I have to watch those on my laptop. Again, I found a fix to the you tube problem. It was a link to a site. www.youtube/html5. html5 video player trial that you click on and once done, the videos on the you tube app started working great. They were doing the same thing as the tutorial videos prior to that. No such luck with the other web videos, at least the ones that i have tried. Hope this is enough info and understandable. You might check out the html5 site. I didn't thoroughly understand why, but it worked. You may understand it better. I am a proficient user, but far from an I.t. Pro. I have read Many posts with similar problems, but no simple solutions and the ones I did try didn't work. Speed tested well. Channel is set to auto and always different than neighboring networks, usually channel 11. Tried disabling QOS as suggested....no good. I am completely stumped. Any help is greatly appreciated. I was on the same boat, bud! I saw you had the exact same problem as I did and decided to come back to help you out. On another apple discussion page, a user--Charlicharli-- posted a link to download and everything seems to be fine now. Apparently we had to check with Lenovo. We were looking in all the wrong places for the fix!

1) The Advanced Stream Redirector (ASX) format is not supported by QT X.
2) The Advanced Stream Redirector (ASX) format is not supported by QT 7 without third-party support such as the Fil4Mac WMV components.
3) Even the Flip4Mac WMV component only "supports a small subset of the ASX file format."
On my system:
1) Trying to play the file directly in QT X using the "Open Location..." option returns the fillowing message, "The movie 'mdsmarttool.asx' can’t be opened because the file is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands. The file may be damaged or may not be a movie file that is compatible with QuickTime Player."
2) Trying to play the file directly in QT 7 using the "Open URL..." option returns the following message in the "Inspector" window, "Movie Unavailable."
3) Trying to download the linked file does nothing. (Aborts action without any message.)
4) Trying to open the URL in Safari returns the following message, "The operation couldn't be completed. A Microsof Media Server (MMS) error was encountered. (-19160) Try again. If the problem persists, contact the website administrator."
Based on these results, it would appear that there may either be an access problem or a file type support problem.

DVD Plays on one iMac/Not another

I've got 2 iMacs running 10.5.6.
I've created a DVD on a Sony RDR-VXD655 digital DVD/VHS recorder/player.
DVDs created on the Sony will play on one iMac and not the other. On the one it won't play on the recorded DVD shows up as a blank DVD. The problem iMac plays commercial DVDs just fine.
I've tried to see what video utilities I have on the iMac that works and transfer them to the one that doesn't, but no luck. The only thing I haven't installed is Final Cut Express.
Any suggestions?

Contrary to popular belief, burning at the highest speed(s) are not recommended.
Burn at the slowest speeds that the discs can use.
When I would burn video dvd's. The newer drives had no problems, but the older drives wold complian, and spit out the discs.
I burn at the slowest speeds, now all of my dvd players are happier.

Why Does My DVD play in Black and White and Not Color??

I made a DVD of some video clips that I shot in color. The DVD plays fine on my computer (it plays in color), and it plays on the TV except it shows up as black and white. Other DVD's play just fine in color on the TV. What is the problem? Thanks!!!

The only two reasons I can think of that something would play in black and white are:
(a) you are using an S-video connection and there's a problem with a connector or cable. If the connection is loose or broken, you can see an image but it will be black and white.
(b) viewing a PAL disc on a NTSC TV... I've not tried it but I thought that you can sometimes see the image but that it is black and white. There would be other problems with the image too, though, not just a lack of color.
What make and model of player are you using? What kind of TV? Are you using composite or s-video or component connection? Are you using DVD-Rs or something else (-RW, +R, +RW, dual layer)?
Seriously, I can think of no reason why it would display in color on your computer, but not on your TV.

I made an ISO file using devede and then burnt it to a DVD using K3B. The finished DVD will work on a Magnavox player but not a JVC. Is there anything I can do about this??? Do some players have a "must be produced commercially" filter or something???

First, I am assuming you recorded your iso on +R type media. Next, I'm guessing that the player that won't play your DVD is the older of the two players. Some DVD players, especially older ones don't like +R media. If this is the case, here is a possible fix.
Here is a thread on another forum which discuses changing the booktype on your DVD burner. Here is a quote from the original post:
There have been many questions asked about how to booktype +R media to DVD-ROM
Many standalone Players, HDD recorders/players and games consoles don't like +R media but they are happy enough to play -R or DVD-ROM.
Some drive brands have tools to change this option but others don't. I have found that the easiest way to change your BOOKTYPE setting is to use a small burning tool called IMGBurn which can be found doing a Google search.
Below you can see some screen shots which guide you through changing your BOOKTYPE setting. For this I have used my NEC4551 but IMGBurn supports NU-Tech, Plextor, Ricoh, Samsung, BenQ, LG, Lite-on and NEC.
Once you have changed your BOOKTYPE setting, when you burn a +R/+RW disc it will be burned as a DVD-ROM which is the same as a bought movie and most players are happy to play these.
Since my DVD players are happy with +R media, I haven't tried this. Both of my players are fairly new, and I made sure that +R was listed on the box as one of the formats accepted by that player.
As usual, try this at your own risk.

Why won't iTunes 11 "stop" one song and then "play" what I've selected (OS 10.6) ?

(1) I can't get iTunes to play songs I select (in Playlist view) from the menu at the top. I used to be able to switch from one playlist or song to another by clicking the Play button at the top. Now I can only play a song I want in Playlist view by double-clicking it. Why don't the controls at the top do what they used to do?
(2) When I switch to the Mini-Player, if I try to forward to the next song in the playlist, iTunes selects something from a completely different playlist, apparently at random. This seems to be because in Controls/Shuffle, "Shuffle" switches itself to "On." Can't I forward to the next selection in the Miniplayer any more? And why is Shuffle turning itself on? (I HATE Shuffle. Have you ever thought you were going to the next song in your "Game of Thrones" playlist and gotten a Russian gypsy song instead?)
(3) Can anyone tell me where to find the tutorials for this $&#*^%(^*$!* version of iTunes?

I too can confirm this is a problem and it is too bad becasue play counts are important to me. I track my listening habits with them. iOS 7 on 4S is not updating the play counts or time or anything about the music once played on the phone. I certain it is not an iTiunes problem becasue checking the music on the phone itself show it has no new information to synch on it. it isall the same as when I copied the somgs over. It is definitely an iOS 7 bug. Apple, if you see this, please fix ASAP!

Why won't MacBook play some DVDs?

My black MacBook OS X 10.4.11 will not play some DVDs. I am not talking about burnt or data dvds, I mean movies. It plays most but will not play others, and it is not because of scratching or corruption because most have been brand new purchases.
This is annoying, how do I fix this?

What year and month did you get your MacBook. To make sure listen to these CD drive noises, tell me which one sounds like yours:

First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
Windows 7
Vista
Check if the drive will now play your DVD.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'. In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager. Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives. Right click the drive and select uninstall. Do not delete drivers if asked. When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ). Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now plays your DVD.

Why won't videos play on my pad anymore?

I used to be able to read at least youtube videos on my ipad, but not anymore, for an obscure reason. The videos seem to be loading, but a click on the play button won't make it start. Would you know why and how to fix it?

I have a similar problem. More info for my case. ...
iOS 5.1.1, orig iPad.
Play button changes when touched, but does not start playing.
MLB.com, YouTube, and other magazine-style sites are affected.
This is NOT the Flash video problem. Those still load with the play button x-Ed out.
Some videos, e. g. Facebook ones, play, sometimes.
The problem started for me about two weeks ago.
I tried to fix by a full power down and restart. That didn't help.
I saw on another thread to try "reset". I'll try that next.
