Why won't Firefox let me print web pages on my Mac? Safari works fine...

Every time I try to print a web page or image or anything on Firefox, the printed version comes out mostly blank with things like "file:.... and 2 of 15 and Dates and 11..." in very small letters on the bottom of the page. It is not printing what I want it to at all. I looked on support.mozilla and went to about:config. There was no print.print_printer option for me to choose when I typed it in the filter field, and all of the rest of the print options there was available, the reset option was unavailable to click (it was all grey). Now what do I do? I need to use Firefox because one of the websites I need to use only uses the Firefox browser for Mac. Help please??

Hi funkyjeans-
I would suggest altering your printing preferences for Firefox. There is a Support article that describes how to do that here:

I hope that helps.

• Why won't some photos or videos sync to my iPad when they work fine with iPhoto and iTunes?

Why won't some photos or videos sync to my iPad when they work fine with iPhoto and iTunes? Other photos taken with same camera sync fine from iPhoto while certain events are inexplicably incompatible. I've recently foundvthecsame occurrence with certain mp3s and videos from iTunes.

For photos try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync and see if they then copy over - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
Not all video formats that work in iTunes are compatible with the iPad - the supported formats are (from http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/) :
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
Have you tried Advanced > Create iPad Version and then sync those versions to the iPad
The iPad's supported audio formats are :
HE-AAC (V1 and V2), AAC (8 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (8 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4, Audible Enhanced Audio, AAX, and AAX+), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV

• Reinstalled Acrobat Pro 8.1.6 won't let me print web pages to PDFs

I'm really ticked at Adobe's "help" in updating the program only to cause a lot of misery.  I'd read Acrobat had a security update, and got a constant reminder from Adobe update to install the available update.  I've been using Acrobat Pro 8.1.6 with absolutely no problems printing web pages to PDFs.  I installed the 8.1.7 update which immediately disabled Acrobat completely.  So I wasted a lot of time uninstalling Acrobat and reinstalling sequential versions to get back to 8.1.6.  Now I can't print web pages to a PDF.
I had NOT done anything else to installed programs in the meantime, except that probably Norton has automatically updated antivirus files in the background.  I don't have any problems using Acrobat to open and print an existing PDF, or to create new PDFs from my scanner.  I can do a hardcopy print of a webpage by selecting my Brother printer.  From Word 2002 and Excel 2002, I can create a PDF by "printing" to Acrobat as usual.   The only problem is creating a PDF by "printing" a webpage by selecting Acrobat as the device from the list of available printers.  This problem happens both with Firefox and with Internet Explorer 7.
I have Windows XP Pro SP3.  I did the most recent Windows Tuesday security update several days before messing around with Acrobat and did not have any problems printing PDF files from Firefox or IE7.  So, it seems like it's clearly an Adobe Acrobat problem.  I get the small box saying "Preparing to Print" which goes nowhere and then I have to use the Task Manager to get out of the loop.  That closes Firefox, and when I reopen Firefox, the same webpage comes up.

• My iPad won't load web pages, even though it was working fine two days ago.

Up until 2 days ago I had no problems with my iPad 3.
However now it will not load any web pages at all (Using Safari). In order to get it to load web pages I either
have to reboot or turn it off and then on again. It then connects but only ever to one page at a time.
I don't understand what the issue is since it was fine before. It is not my Wifi network as it works fine on
other laptops.

Try this:
1. Close all apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
2. Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

• Why won't Firefox let me bring up the uploaded pages of the San Quentin News.

I’m totally confused by new Firefox behavior concerning my Wordpress blog for the San Quentin News, the prison newspaper I advise that is the only prison newspaper in California and one of the few in the world. www.sanquentinnews.com. The problems don’t arise when I use Safari on either my iMac, my wife’s iMac or our iPad. Just Firefox, and just recently.
The three Pages I created on the Wordpress blog (Home, Welcome and Comment) still work fine. But the upload pages for the paper’s various issues – Current Issue and Back Issues – don’t work as they did many months before with Firefox.
When I uploaded the May issue, using the same procedure for media uploads that had worked before, things fell apart.
After uploading the new issues I tried to access Current Issue and Back Issues. What happens is this: The first time I select an issue sometimes it comes up correctly, with the image filling the screen and the blue scroll bar down the right side that enables me to scroll to all eight pages. But next time I try to access that issue, either nothing happens (blank screen) or when the issue finally comes up after a long delay, it is the first page of the issue centered on the desktop and with no blue scroll bar with which to access other pages.
Please help! I like the many features of Firefox, but not this one.

• Why won't Firefox open a specific web site when Safari will

I am unable to open a specific website on Firefox yet I can open it with Safari on the same computer. I have a Mac Air and am using Firefox 26.0 with OSX 10.9.1

Can you post a link to a publicly accessible page that doesn't require authentication (signing on)?
You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

• Firefox closes after printing web pages.

Firefox 12.0 is my browser. Up-to-date. After printing a web page, Firefox closes. Doesn't happy with other printing i.e. Word docs. Virus/malware protection enabled and up-to-date. I don't see any setting that would be asking Firefox to close when finished, so what could be causing this?

Wow, that's incredibly inconvenient.
To be clear: Firefox is shutting down completely without displaying any error message? When you restart Firefox, does it work or do you get the error that Firefox is already running? Does Firefox suggest resuming your previous session or resume it automatically (i.e., Firefox recognizes that it crashed)?
Usually the first thing to try when printing misbehaves is to reset the various settings Firefox saves for your printer. You can do that in the about:config preferences editor with a lot of right-clicking.
A little more info here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problems_printing_web_pages#Reset_printer
Does that make any difference?

• Just downloaded Firefox 4, cannot print web pages, print is all skewed, looks like secret coding.

Tried to print a web page friendly receipt and then tried printing a web page, print is skewed, looks like some sort of encryption.

Installing nightly builds is not recommended for most people. If you install a nightly build you will get updates every day. Though the current nightly builds are stable, it is not unusual for them to be very unstable and at time unusable.

• This is a problem with Facebook. On my status I no longer have the buttons to share a picture, video, link AND my Firefox plugin for sharing web pages on FB no longer works. Any Ideas?

Firefox Version 3.6.12
Recent update to Firefox.
After which I can no longer share web pages on Facebook from Firefox AND on my Wall in FB I can only post text - no longer have the buttons to share videos, pictures, links, etc.
But these all exist in my version of IE.

You're welcome
I'm curious where you found Options if it is not in the indicated place or did you use Tools > Clear Recent History ?

• Why won't Firefox let me add an exception?

Firefox tells me that a site has an invalid security certificate, which I know. It asks if I want to Add an Exception and I click to add one. It pops up the Add Security Exception window and that window tells me that this site has a valid certificate and there is no need to add an exception; but I DO need to add an exception and it won't do it for me. Why?
I am working in a secure test lab and use Firefox to login to our systems under test. Each time we change or add hardware we must add exceptions to login to a system. I have done this for years with Firefox but now Firefox 4 seems confused. We now need to use EI, which I would rather not.

I use a lot of equipment with internal (untrusted/self-signed) certificates and I face this problem one or two times a month. This has been going on since FF 4.0 came out and has continued with v5 and v6. I know someone said nothing has changed with regard to cert handling - you are wrong.
This issue is nearly crippling to me and is driving me away from FF entirely. Were it not for a couple irreplaceable plugins I use, I would already be gone. No other modern browser is as irritating WRT the handling of untrusted SSL certificates as firefox is, and no other modern browser has a problem like this. I'm facing this issue right now with a system that I *need* to be able to access, and I simply cannot use FF to do so because of this infuriating issue.

• Why won't Firefox let me access Google when it is in the tool bar anyway?

I set the browser to open at Google and at first, I had no problem, but now Firefox is blocking me accessing the site, saying it is unsafe and will cause harm to my computer. I have used this site for years and had no problem, so why is this happening, please. Chris Keys

Hi Chris, if you have never seen that error before, the issuer chain is what connects the site's SSL certificate with a globally trusted certificate. Typically one or more "intermediate" certificates are involved and the server needs to send those to the browser. Novice webmasters sometimes forget, but with Google, that seems unlikely. We should consider other possibilities.
(1) Cache mismatch
You can clear Firefox's cache of previously retrieved pages (not history but the files themselves) using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. When you revisit Google, Firefox should retrieve all the files fresh and hopefully this will clear up the issue.
(2) DNS hijack
Firefox usually relies on Windows to look up the true internet addresses of servers, but this can be overridden by a proxy setting or by an extension, and you might do this if you have signed up with a private VPN service (for anonymous browsing) or are using a TOR add-on.
(A) Proxy setting
You can review/modify your setting here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > Settings button
The default setting is "Use system proxy settings" which should cause Firefox to use the same connection settings as IE.
(B) Extensions
You can review, configure, disable, and often remove extensions here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > in the left column click Extensions
Any that specifically target Google, such as privacy-related extensions, would be worth checking and possibly disabling.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
(C) External software
Other software on your computer can change how Windows finds site, including malware. If you are inclined to run a few supplemental scans, this support article recommends some free tools for that: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.
(D) Router settings
Often your DNS servers are actually set in your router, either one supplied by your internet service provider or one you've added on yourself to share your connection locally. If you find that you have the same problem in IE, then this definitely is worth checking.

• Why won't Firefox let me use the 'Enlarge' feature on E bay, when other browsers will?

Firefox will not let me use the feature 'Enlarge' when trying to view products on E bay. It does allow me to use the 'zoom' feature which is odd that it will do one thi9ng, but not the other. I have no problem using the 'enlarge' feature when I use Opera, Sea Monkey or IE7.

Firefox should not modify the Windows mouse settings; that is troubling.
If this problem started around the time of Firefox 30, perhaps it's this:
Firefox 30 switched many plugins from "Always Activate" to "Ask to Activate". The purpose of this change was to require your permission for untrusted sites to use plugins. However, some plugins that affect the user interface and/or operate globally on all pages do not work well with this setting and unpredictable UI breakage can result.
Could you review your plugins as follows:
Open the Add-ons page using either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Then I suggest:
* For "in-page"/"player" plugins like Flash, Silverlight, or Java, no changes are needed
* For global plugins like fingerprint readers or security software, switch to either:
** "Always Activate" if you use this plugin on a regular basis
** "Never Activate" if this plugin is not important or very rarely used
If in doubt, set "Never Activate".
This might not take effect immediately in the current window, but should work in new windows, or after you exit and restart Firefox.
Any difference?

• Why won't Firefox let me open new tabs?

• Why won't Firefox let me register?

All I wanted to know is how to get rid of the annoying ad for Mozilla Webmaker. The information offered by Mozilla support is an irrelevant remark, "First, please update to Firefox 31, 27 is no longer secure or supported. Update Firefox to the latest version. After that, we can help you remove the snippet if you'd like, or just change your home page to something else." I have Firefox 31, how are you going to help me? Based on this answer, Firefox Support isn't going to help! Cor-el offered all of this, which isn't useful if you don't understand it: "If you prefer not to see snippets on the about:home page then you can set the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref to an empty string on the about:config page. Delete the storage\persistent\moz-safe-about+home folder in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed ("3-bar" Firefox menu button > Exit/Quit) to remove snippets stored in IndexedDB and make Firefox use a default snippet set. You can reset the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref via the right-click context menu to the default value to re-enable the snippets and make Firefox recreate the moz-safe-about+home folder. You need to close and restart Firefox after changing the value of the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref. You can reset the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref via the right-click context menu to the default value to re-enable the snippets.
about:config page: browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)"
If someone will reply in English instead of jargon (or koine Greek) with an answer, it will be greatly appreciated.

Type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the <i>Enter</i> key to open the <i>about:config</i> page like you open a website by typing the URL in the location bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
You can start typing or paste <b>browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl</b> in the search bar at the top of the about:config page to locate this pref.
You can double-click the line of the pref or select Modify in the right-click context menu and delete the value to change the pref to an empty String value.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder where you can find the <b>storage\persistent\moz-safe-about+home</b> folder and delete this folder with Firefox closed.
