  • Why won't FIREFOX save my HISTORY settings of USE CUSTOM settings?!!!

    This is very very annoying. I'm ready to throw this program down the bit bucket.
    I use it to access facebook and play farmville. I need it to REMEMBER things so that every time I load farm ville it doesn't have to get stuff from their server..
    Every time I open fire fox, and go to face book, and load farmville I get a message that says I can load faster if I allow it to store data on my Computer..
    I go to firefox settings and find ONCE AGAIN my History preferences will NOT save "USE CUSTOM SETTINGS".
    I have to change it every time. I have both 32 bit and 64 bit Nightly (beta) versions on my computer.
    I have totally removed both, restarted windows 7, restarted it again, re-installed fire fox and it STILL happens...
    Why? I will be darned if I will use explorer, but at least it SAVES the settings and doesn't get them screwed up!

    <blockquote>
    Don't get confused:
    If you see "(Never) Remember History" then that means that all history and cookie settings are set to the default value (i.e. cookies are enabled).
    The "Use custom settings for history" selection allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting this doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.
    Firefox shows "Use custom settings for history" as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.
    If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".
    "Never Remember History" means that Private Browsing is active and "Always use private browsing mode" gets a checkmark.
    "Use custom settings for history" stays selected if at least one of the History or Cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes from the default setting have been made.
    </blockquote>
    OK so I agree I was confused. What is confusing me even more is the number of times sites tell me I need to set my cookie settings to accept when as far as I can see it already is.

  • Why can't FC save the folder locations set for render files?

    I wrongly assumed that when you go to system settings to select the scratch disks (root folder where all the audio and video render folders and files go, capture files, etc.) that Final Cut would save the folder locations within the FC project you are working in. Makes total sense, but for reasons I don't understand, FC does NOT save these folder locations and the result is that I have render files scattered all over the place on my hard drive and it is quite a mess! Fortunately, the project file remembers where it put the render files, so as long as you don't remove or rename any project folders, everything shows up rendered on the time line as it should. The problem is, if I'm working on several projects at once, I have to reset the scratch disks every time I reopen a project, otherwise the program will save it to the last scratch location selected and put all of the render files in another project's folder. I often forget to reset the scratch disks when I'm busy and now I have render files mixed up in various project folders.
    Why can't you just set the scratch disks one time when you first set up the project and have the project always remember that location, instead of always having to reset them every time you reopen a project. I love Final Cut, but this is a product defect that should be addressed and corrected. If the project file can remember where it is putting all the render files, it should also be capable of remembering the scratch disk locations you originally selected when you first set up the project or better yet, save it to the project's root folder by default. Am I missing something here?

    As MtD describes, FCP sets file locations for ALL projects at the system level.  It may help to organize things this way so your files don't end up scattered across multiple locations.
    Save the project files to your User folder on the boot drive.
    For all the other files FCP creates, set them on a non-boot drive similar to this:
    Media Drive
    ----->FCP Documents
    ---------->Autosave Vault
    ---------------->Acme Widgets Demo (sample project name)
    ---------------->Grass Valley Music Video (sample project name)
    ---------------->Jen's Wedding (sample project name)
    ---------->Audio Render Files
    ---------------->Acme Widgets Demo (sample project name)
    ---------------->Grass Valley Music Video (sample project name)
    ---------------->Jen's Wedding (sample project name)
    ---------->Capture Scratch
    ---------------->Acme Widgets Demo (sample project name)
    ---------------->Grass Valley Music Video (sample project name)
    ---------------->Jen's Wedding (sample project name)
    ----------->Render Files
    ---------------->Acme Widgets Demo (sample project name)
    ---------------->Grass Valley Music Video (sample project name)
    ---------------->Jen's Wedding (sample project name)
    ----------->Waveform Cache
    Of course, you can choose to keep renders or the Autosave Vault folder on other drives ... just keep them off your boot drive.  It may not be the way you're use to working, but it's worked well for me the past 14 years.  When you finish with a project and ready to delete the associate files, just go to your media drive and delete folders bearing the project's name.

  • When I download a Word file from a classroom management database, why won't Firefox open the file without me having to save it?

    I have been using Firefox for many years with Blackboard products. In the last six months or so, when I try to download a student's file that is a Word .docx, it won't let me open it without saving it. Word .doc files work fine. I don't have this problem with Internet Explorer, but of course IE is clunky, slow, and doesn't fill in forms. Any help would be appreciated. Let me know if I can supply more details.

    Two possible problems. <br />
    1. BlackBoard never supports the latest version of Firefox, for a few reasons. Some schools don't run the latest version of BlackBoard Vista or Campus Edition. Also, BlackBoard upgrades seem to be tied to the "school year" cycle, the changes they make to improve and update their software seem to be rolled out for the fall term so that changes aren't being made during the normal "school year" and possibly causing problems for the schools. That also may be a function of their contract / payment cycles with the schools that use their programs.
    http://www2.blackboard.com/tuneup/viewpage?name=tuneup_browser_tuneup_windows_firefox <br />
    Select the link for the version of WebCT Vista or Campus Edition ''(version info is usually at the bottom of each page, in the footer)'' that your school is using, then see which version of Firefox is compatible.
    Depending upon which version of WebCT your school is using, you will have to use Firefox 3.6.x, Firefox 3.5.x, or Firefox 3.0.x when accessing the Blackboard site.
    My advice is to install the Firefox Portable version that you need for Blackboard on your computer, and use that installation only for Blackboard. Continue to use 4.0.1 for all other web browsing. <br />
    http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable/localization#legacy
    2. Firefox uses a Plugin ( you have Office Plugin for Netscape Navigator installed) to open files that aren't "internet files", like word processing documents. <br />
    I can't help you directly with Office, as I use Open Office, but there should be a preference for that Plugin within your Office preferences or options under something like Internet, to have those files '''Display documents in browser'''. <br />
    Or see this to make sure you have your "file type" set correctly. <br />

  • Why won't Firefox save my history, nor my "Options" choices regarding it?

    Despite all my efforts, Firefox will NOT save my history, nor my choices (such as "Remember History") made under "Tools > Options" regarding it. How can I remedy this?

    ---If you did everything I suggested, you should still have your bookmarks saved (as an html file), all you need to do is import them once you get the problem resolved. I've done worse myself, when formatting and installing an OS and then realizing I forgot to move my bookmarks.html file to the temp drive... lol.
    --- Sorry if my posts are long and contain many areas to consider/dwell, but that always seems to be the easiest & fastest way when dealing with anything tech, online. Messengers are faster but due to being a security weakness (they'll always be as long as the only "tunneling" firewall is owned by Symantec/Norton), and they never even get downloaded to my machines, so please, try to take in everything if you see it applies, and I will do my best not to steer you wrong by leaving something out.
    ---Open the tab you want to change in '''Tools | Options | etc.''' and then not only select your preference, but tic or untic a box for an "advanced/user choice". like untic "Accept Third-Party Cookies" and tic "remember search and form history". Also, untic "automatically start firefox in a private browsing session" if it's tic-ed... untic "clear history when firefox closes". Sorry if you have already, cause as you said originally, you've tried everything... but,''' if you don't change any settings (after changing the drop-down box for preferences) and click "apply", changes won't be saved.'''
    https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/763870
    ---I blame M$, IE and most of all Mozilla developers if the problem spreads to everyone who has IE8 on their systems. I don't have the issue, but my IE hasn't been updated from 7 when I upgraded and freshly installed Windows XP Pro SP3. If IE 7 is giving me grief with FF, I could only imagine what newer versions of IE could screw up for FF as long as they're allowed to fornicate behind the parents' (users') backs.

  • Why won't Firefox use the perfectly good Favourites folder already existing inWindows for the Bookmarks?

    I am trying to compare different browsers to find a favourite. However I find it an unbearable nuisance that when I save a bookmark in Firefox I can't use it in IE9 or Chrome or any other browser.
    This is a universal problem with browsers, they all make their own folders for bookmarks. Is there a good technical reason for this or is it only done to irritate the users.
    There is a perfectly good Favourites folder installed by Windows. Why not use that one instead of clogging up the system with unnecessary extra folders.

    1. There are a few services that will synchronize Firefox and IE bookmarks, along with some other browsers. <br />
    Xmarks and CometMarks are two that I am aware of.
    2. The PlainOld Favorites extension allows you to have Firefox use IE's bookmarks. <br />

  • Why won't Firefox save my tabs?

    When I go to 'tools' and click, 'start private browsing session', when I close the browser, the tabs are never saved. When I go to 'tools' and click 'stop private session' when I close the browser, the tabs are never saved. The browser will never save my tabs. After I close the browser, when I open it again, I see only the Firefox page. Please help me. Thank you.

    Private Browsing doesn't save browser history, so there isn't any history to save when you close Firefox and then there's no Tab history to restore.

  • Why won't Firefox save my passwords?

    Recently, I ran System Mechanic to clear out personal information. It wiped out all my saved passwords in Firefox. Now Firefox doesn't ask me whether to save passwords. I really miss this feature. I've tried to follow the Help" info and everything is set as it should be. Am I missing something?

    Be careful with usung such software to cleanup stuf.

  • Why won't firefox save my passwords anymore?

    Firefox used to save my passwords, but doesn't do it any longer. It only has about 6 saved at this point and does not give me the drop down box to remember this password anymore.

    * Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) [[Private Browsing]] mode.
    * You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
    * To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting <b>Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>
    * Uncheck: [ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"

  • Why won't FireFox save my login info anymore?

    All of my saved login info no longer works and I can't get it to work. I've checked "remember passwords for sites" but still nothing. Any suggestions?

    Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
    If the latter happens then you have a problem with cookies that are not kept or the file that stores the cookies is corrupted.

    Why don't the options to not check if Firefox is the default browser, set the homepage to a blank page, and password settings hold? It opens to a firefox page and asks if I want to make firefox the default and has the checkbox checked to check for default with every launching.
    Just updated to Firefox ESR 24.6.0

    This article lists a number of possible reasons that Firefox might be unable to save your preference changes during your session, or that they might be overridden at startup: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    Another common issue is a feature of security or utility software that protects you from unwanted browser settings changes by reverting them back to an earlier state. For example, Advanced SystemCare's Surfing Protection feature can do this. You may need to turn off such features, if you have them, in order to keep your changes.

    Hi David,
    Thank you for your detailed question. It sounds like the real issue is pdf files. Are there any antivirus/firewalls that might be blocking this specific file type? or are there any preferences in your control panel that might be blocking this?
    Do you have any stored preferences for PDF files in Firefox?

  • Why won't Mail save stationery? with OS X Lion

    I have checked
    Why won't Mail save stationery?
    but it applies for Lepoard so what about Lion?
    Any Help? I did remove all the signature yet, still cannot save it.

    I've solved it!
    When you have saved the stationery, and opened a new email, make sure you have NO SIGNATURE.
    If you have 'None' in the signature drop down list, then the template will display fine.
    If you have a signature automatically added to emails, it interferes with the template being displayed and all you get is the signature.
    So start with a blank email and no signature, before you select your custom-saved stationery.
