Why won't Flash videos play in Facebook?

I can't seem to get Flash videos to play in Facebook.  I hear sound, but just get a blank black screen where I would expect to see the video. Youtube videos work fine.
If I browse to http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html I see the following:
"Check if Flash Player is installed on your computer", it shows the following under Step 1:
Congratulations, your computer has the latest Flash Player installed.
Start playing games, listening to music, and watching videos!
YOUR SYSTEM INFORMATION
Your Flash Version
12.0.0.44
Your browser name
Internet Explorer (I'm using IE 11)
Your Operating System (OS)
Windows (Windows 7) (I have a 64bit OS)
I followed Stpes 2, 3, and 4, and even see the Flash video of a swaying tree on the page under Step 5, which makes me thing Flash is correctly installed yet I'm still unable to get videos to play on Facebook.
Troubleshooting steps I've taken:
- Deleted %apphost%\flash and %apphost%\macromedia folders from my system
- Uninstall/reinstall Adobe Flash
- Reset Internet Explorer setting to default settings, cleared browsing history, and deleted temporary internet files
- Confirmed under "Manage Add-Ons" that "Shockwave Flash Object" is enabled
- Ensure clean Host and LMHost files
I'd greatly appreciate other troubleshooting suggestions anyone else can provide.  Thank you.

The problem is... not Flash Player.... it's Ie 11.
Microsoft intentionally screwed up the "User-Agent Strings" that websites use to identify the browser and provide the proper content for it. If a website can ID it at all, it misidentifies it as either Gecko (Firefox) or Webkit (Safari), but since the full browser engine isnt there, IE then becomes an unidentifiable visitor.
The pages can't recognize the browser, so they don't recognize any of the plugins, like Flash Player. So far, Microsoft has made NO indication that they have any plan to fix it soon.
Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using an different browser. Trouble with that is it has seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
Firefox (from Mozilla)
Opera (from Opera)
Safari (from Apple)
Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • Why won't flash video's work on my iBook anymore?

so, previously i didn't have a problem watching flash video on my iBook. whne i say previoulsy i mean that serveral month ago i change the OS to 5.8. how i have problem's somehow relating to the flash players on sites. i don't think it effects YouTube, not that i'm a avid watcher of YouTube. but just to make sure...
...right, yes. YouTube still very functional.
i have scripts (por extension's) but have been switching them off to find out whether this will help. it didn't. so that just left coming here and see if there's anyone out there with simular issues or know what the help is going on and how to fix it.
i should mention the site i've been trying to watch from are; animecrazy.net and kumby.com, jap animation sites. amazing if you like or love that kind of stuff. but not what non of the flash players work
any help would be wonderful, cheers guy's/girls

    hello ronda,
there are certain FP's that are and aren't reliable. i think for me the confusion is that there's use to be lots more that i could rely on and that is'nt the case. so i suspect something somewhere has changed. as i'm non intel my flash play is limited to 10.1.102.64. i'm gonna set up a list with links to those that do, have never and did but longer do.
    have never;
Watch with English Subs (Speedy Joe)      Parts: 1
Watch with English Subs (youku)      Parts: 1
    Player 4
(i can't really tell which player this is cause it don't even load to intro)
    Player 5
(agin can't tell which player this is, it also the second as the first one is megavideo)
    did but no longer do;
http://www.animecrazy.net/naruto-shippuuden-episode-219/#Watch with English Subs (JWPlayer)      Parts: 1
    Watch with English Subs (Rutube)
    Watch with English Subs (Flv)
    do;
    Watch with English Subs (MegaVideo)
    Player 2
    (JWPlayer, different site)
    Player 3
ok the thing is that the links that are used aren't consistant on the one i would prefer to use. so one week you may find all the thing i want to watch have watchable links via non MV. other weeks you may find one. and again, i might find none at all. mainly it come usually comes down to MV with the occasional possibility of some other player.
i find it interesting that you can refresh to make the links work. i think i used to able to that on some of them but that no longer works. there very likely more link i may scout of them so i have a comprehensive list to reflect on. but i think its pretty much reflects the majority currently.

  • Why won't my videos play in iTunes when I already downloaded them?

iTunes on the iPad is just the iTunes store. Videos and tv shows that you've synced and/or downloaded to the iPad go into the Videos app :
Songs that you've synced or downloaded go into the iPod or Music app (depending on which version of iOS you have)  :

  • Why won't Flash Player, play?

The Flash player installs fine, so it says, and then when the window comes up to show it is working, no video to verify it is working.  Now what?  I have taken the security settings off and deleted all the past history, deleted old versions of Player.  Still will not let me access sites that say I have to upgrade.  I see a lot of problems with this flash player 10 but no real solutions.  I am running IE8 with Vista.  Any help will be muchly appreciated.

    Hi there.
I am new to this forum and signed up just so I could include my own frustrations with this very same problem!
I am located in Canada and prefer to watch streaming video over regular TV.  For some reason, the CBC player stopped working for me when I upgraded my Flash Player. I do not recall which version of Adobe Flash I had installed when this problem started to occur but I know it wasn't the most current version (10,3,181,34) that I have now. But it definitely seemed to follow the Flash update.
I have Flash version 10,3,181,34 now. I have updated to Firefox 5. Active X, javascript, etc is all enabled. I have walked through all of Adobe's troubleshooting steps. I have tried disabling my anti-virus. I tried re-installing all of my browsers, plug-ins etc. yet the problem still persists. And I am in the exact same boat as the poster in that I can still watch Flash player streaming content from all other websites but not from CBC.ca!
So I was happy to see someone made a post about it because it is incredibly frustrating and CBC.ca doesn't respond to inquiries/troubleshooting complaints directly.
I'm pretty technologically adapt as I am a system administrator and lon-time IT professional. Should I ever get this problem resolved, I will be sure to post here, otherwise I will pop back now and again and see if anyone else has come up with a solution.
Cheers and thanks again to the poster for posting this!

  • Keep getting a sign stating that I must have quicktime to play my videos when I already have quicktime downloaded. So why won't the videos play?

I downloaded the newest version of the itunes, but I had to delete the old one and quicktime. So after I downloaded the new itunes I downloaded the Quicktime 7 so I can play my videos, but I get a message stating "This movie requires Quicktime, which is installed but failed to initialize. Uninstall quicktime and reinstall it." I've done it twice. I also get a message stating "itunes.exe has been to run in compatability mode for an older version of windows. For best results, turn off combatability mode for itunes before you open it." The system that I have is XP and it's on the list of programs that it functions with.

Try the following document, only be sure that none of the boxes in the compatibility mode tab are checked (not just the compatibility mode box itself):

  • Why won't my camera work in Facebook video call?

Have a new MacBook Pro running Mavericks. When I tried to use the video call feature in Facebook, it told me I didn;t have the necessary java to execute the install. I downloaded the file suggested online (Java for OS X 2014-001: How to re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 web plug-in and Web Start features) and the install went through. However, when I try to make a call it connects, I can see the other person's video and hear her/him but my camera does not activate (No green light. Person being called can hear me, but no picture appears for them). FaceTime works fine. Skype works fine. Google+ Hangout asks me to give permission to use camera, but hangs up. I also tried to make a FB video call in Safari and that did not work either (same problem).

  • Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 is not displaying embedded flash video contents on Facebook and some other sites

When I want to watch Flash videos embedded into Facebook pages videos are not displayed as they should be. Where the video should be seen there is only blank white space. Audio is running normally though. If I click FULL SCREEN video mode Flash video
is displayed normally. Only in small screen modes Flash videos are not displayed properly.
I have tried playing same videos using Google Chrome which is also using Flash ActiveX and everything is working fine there. Firefox which is using Flash Plugin also works fine. Only IE11 is not working as it should.
I have already reinstalled Flash Player and disabled all IE11 addons but problem is still there. I would say this is not Adobe Flash Player problem as in Chrome everything works fine.
Both the latest versions of Adobe Flash Player and updated IE11 are installed on my computer.
Can you, please, tell me what should I do to fix this problem.
    A screenshot of embedded video:

If I click FULL SCREEN video mode Flash video is displayed normally. Only in small screen modes Flash videos are not displayed properly.
I would say this is not Adobe Flash Player problem as in Chrome everything works fine.
Comparing with Chrome may not be relevant but it sounds like something about the screen size is making the Flash program act differently in the two environments.  Supposedly there is a debug version of Flash but I don't know if there is a debug version
for the Flash that is embedded in W8.
Is there a publicly accessible repro page someone could use to compare their symptoms with yours?

  • Why wont embedded youtube videos play on ipad

why wont embedded youtube videos play on ipad

    Hi..
Try troubleshooting the Flash plugin which is required for most YouTube cotent as well as other sites.
    Quit Safari.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
    Very important to uninstall first.
Launch Safari From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
    Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

  • Why can't Flash Video be as simple as  QT?

After weeks of unsuccessfully trying to convert my
QuickTime/Windows Media-based video gallery to a working Flash
gallery, I finally gave up and returned to the
    old-school-yet-tried-and-true QT/WMV.
But I'm still curious - QT & WMV are able to use a single
file (.mov or .wmv) while Flash requires the file AND a player
(Somehow my track record of getting the swf to play the flv was
sketchy). One of the perks of Flash, as I understood it, was that
the majority of browsers are able to play Flash movies. But it's
not quite as simple. Being required to upload the swf in order to
play the flv seems to be like imbedding a QT plug-in to play the
.mov. Why can't Flash Video be as simple as simply downloading the
flv just as playing a Quicktime Movie is as simple as downloading
the mov (as long as the user has the correct plug-in)?

  • Flash videos playing weirdly in firefox - malformed

I have had this problem for a long time, running through all versions of Firefox 3 (including the latest 3.5 preview releases).
I am updated to the latest version of Flash, and am running Windows XP (also fully up to date).
All flash videos play fine in IE8.
On some sites, while videos are playing, the picture flicks quickly between a normal picture and the effect shown in the screenshot - the usual image tiny, with weird blurred lines around it. This continues through the whole video, flicking very rapidly, and making the video effectively unwatchable. The effect remains even when the video is paused. I've attached screenshots below which should make the nature of the distortion clear.
I have experienced the problem most on Youtube (as I use this more than other video sites). The only other site I have noted the problem on is facebook video. Metacafe, Google Videos, Dailymotion, Vimeo and BBC iPlayer did not exhibit any distortion.
On Youtube, it is sometimes possible to play videos properly by switching to high quality, but usually it does the same thing, but flicking to a much larger picture, so it only seems to be blurry around the very edges.
I should also mention that embedded YouTube videos play fine on other pages.
My computer is pretty old - with an AMD Athlon Processor 996 MHz and 752 MB of RAM - but definitely has the capacity to play these videos, as it manages on Internet Explorer.
I created a thread on the firefox support forums before I came here - not much progress was made, but I should mention a few details of the only other reported case of this problem.
"Matt" seems to be experiencing the same problem on Firefox, also with a pretty old computer, but on Windows 2000, not XP. He reports the same problem on Opera also on his computer; I haven't tested this on my system.
Personally, I am at a complete loss with this problem - I have no idea how it can be caused, or fixed, and it's a major obstacle to casual web browsing. (I have to load Internet Explorer just to watch a youtube video!)
I really hope someone is able to shed some light on this issue; please ask if you would like any more details on my system.
    Thanks.
    (Ben)

    Hello all,
Yes to follow up Ben, I'm experiencing the exact same problems as him. I changed browser to Firefox 3.0.11 a couple of months ago and hence downloaded the Flash plugin for Firefox. I noticed the issue straight away in Youtube, but not on other sites. As I attributed the problem to Firefox, I then downloaded Opera 9.64 - but experienced the same problem. This led me to believe the issue was the Flash plugin, as both browsers are served by the same Adobe plugin for 'alternative browsers' to IE.
I then tried IE6 again in youtube and it didn't have the problem on standard view, however the problem was (and still is) occurring in full screen view. I'm nearly 100% sure this problem didn't occur before I downloaded the Flash plugin for Firefox / Opera. Regardless of whether that is the issue, the problem was definitely not happening on my system in IE6 earlier this year.
As Ben said, my computer is fairly old but well managed and up to date. OS is Windows 2000 SP4, system is AMD Athlon 900 (slot A), 512 Mb RAM, 16Mb Voodoo 3 graphics, m/board MSI MS-6191.
I've also tried removing the Flash plugin for Firefox/Opera and for IE6 and reinstalling it but had no joy there either. I would try an updated version of IE too but IE6 is the last version compatible with Win 2k.
    Any help appreciated, thanks.
    Matt
