Why won't iPhone open PDF's after updating to IOS8.1?

There is nothing I regret more than updating my iPhone 4 to the new IOS. My phone wasn't updating apps, so I did the iOS update. Now many things are not working, including not opening any PDF files when in Safarai. It keeps asking "open" and "open in" but then nothing is offered that would work, just a grey page. Need a solution or the Internet on my phone is practically useless! Does anyone know how to fix this?

What troubleshooting have you tried? It would help if you report this before someone responds so we are not wasting each other's time by repeating things you have already done. User troubleshooting steps are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new. You can also try force closing Safari and clearing cookies and web site data.

  • Why won't iPad open PDF's after updating to IOS8

After upgrading to IOS 8, my iPad Mini (MD541LL/A)  will no longer open PDF's from a website using either Safari or Chrome.
This behavior was observed using 8.0.2 and is still there after upgrading to 8.1 (12B410).
A fix to this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Do all PDF documents fail to open from any website, or is the issue with a specific website?  For example, if you search for "ext:pdf" on google.com, then click on a link with "[PDF]" at the beginning of the link, do they all fail?
Does Safari say it is unable to download the file, or does something else happen?

  • Why won't Safari open PDF-documents after uninstalling Adobe Reader?

    Hi.
I wonder why Safari won't open a PDF-document after I uninstallet Adobe Reader. Prior to my installation of Adobe Reader, Safari opened PDF's without any diffyculty.
I've tried to reset Safari but it didn't seem to help at all.
    What do I do?
    Thanks
    Mike

There might be a residual plug-in interfering with Safari's PDF opening capabilities.
Installed plug-ins are listed via Safari > Help menu.
    They are located in
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    and
    ~/Library//Internet Plug-ins
    (tilde is home folder)

Why can't I open pdf's after install of adobe reader? Should I see it in system preferences?

There are can be reasons PDFs cannot be opened. For example, some forms created with Lifecycle Designer cannot be opened.
Are you sure the file is a PDF? Can you open it in Adobe Reader or Acrobat on a Mac or PC? Does it give an error message when you try to open it?

  • Why won't adobe open pdf files in maverick?

i recently installed Maverick on my Mac Mini and Safari won't open
pdf files from te net. Help!

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Why can't I open pdf documents after using Adobe Reader security?

I have been able to open pdfs perfectly well up until I changed the security settings on Adobe Reader.  As I read somewhere that Apples have an inbuilt pdf reader I trashed everything Adobe, but still can't open pdfs.  Tried using Preview  to no avail.
Is there some other way of opening pdfs without reinstalling Adobe?

You didn't think of mentioning that in your first post?  So it's not Adobe Reader or Preview you are having problems with.  It's pdf's in your browser!
For Safari, you need to remove the adobe pdf plugins which Adobe apparently screwed up.  You need to remove:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
I think you can "get away with" removing just the second one.  But both for sure should allow you to open pdf's in a browser (all browsers).

  • Unable to open PDF files after update failed

I have not be able to open any of my many PDF files after last update.  The update failed - error message "Error 1327.Invalid Drive:F\".  Drive F is where I plug in my flash drive, there is nothing in drive F.  I am working on my Ed.D and have 100's of PDF files pertaining to my research.  I need to be able to open these files.  I use a lot of these every day.  I can't unstall the program -- get the same error message, can't repair it.  Nothing works.  Can anyone tell me what to do.  I need a answer fast.

Some people in other posts have suggested to insert a USB drive into F drive.

    thanks!

    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer (Edit: Do not use this disc if it is not the same general version as what you have currently on your computer, e.g. use a Tiger disc for a Tiger drive, not a Panther disc), then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Then boot in Safe Mode, (holding Shift key down at bootup; takes longer to boot this way so be patient), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

  • Cannot open PDF file after update to Acrobat Reader 11.0.1 / 10.1.5

I receive faxes from a service in the form of PDF files.  Up until today, I have been able to open them with no problem using Acrobat Reader 10.1.4 and lower.
Today, I updated Acrobat Reader to 10.1.5, and it's suddenly unable to open any of those files.  I tried uninstalling 10.1.5 and installing 11.0.1, and the same problem exists.
I also tried a computer with 11.0.0 that had not yet updated, and it works fine.
Apparently, it's something about this latest update.
The PDF files open in other viewers like Foxit, Sumatra, and Chrome with no problem.
    Here is the error:
The offending file can be gotten from here:

Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!
    /Mike

Apparently I was incorrect on the Cisco box, we are using something different now. We use an Extended application server attached to a Meta Call feature server. This is a known issue for them.
"We have discovered an issue that means that the format of fax PDFs generated on most versions of Metaswitch EAS is incompatible with the latest Adobe Reader (11.0.01).  This means that when your end users upgrade their Adobe Reader to 11.0.01, they will no longer be able to view faxes received from EAS in PDF format."
The same is with version 10.1.5. I uninstalled 10.1.5 and reinstalled 10.1.4 and the problem went away. No updates for us for now
