Why won't iPhone photos import into iPhoto?

When I try to import photos from iPhone 4S to iPhoto '08 I get a message saying it doesn't recognize the files. I can see the photos fine on my phone and can even text message and email them without any problem. Every time I try to import new photos I get this same message. Therefore, I have not been able to import any new photos or videos I've taken for over a month. Please, anyone out there know how to solve this problem?

Good to read and note error messages - it turns out that there is a reason to have them - they often explain problems and the solution to the problem
Do you have any new photos in the camera roll that have not been previously imported? have you triedPhotoStream - that is generally the prefered way to import photos now? What happens when you click on the phone in the source pane?

I have a large number of photos imported into iPhoto with the dates wrong.  How can I adjust multiple photos (with varying dates) to the same, correct, date?

If I understand you correctly, when you enter a date in the Adjust Date and Time window, the picture does not update with the date you enter.  If that is the case then something is wrong with iPhoto or your perhaps your library.
How large a date change are you putting in?  iPhoto currently has an issue with date changes beyond about 60 years at a time.  If the difference between the current date on the image and the date you are entering is beyond that range that may explain why this is not working.
If that is not the case:
Remove the following to the trash and restart the computer and try again:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.iphoto
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.iPhoto (There may be more than one. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: to get to the "home > library" hold down option on the keyboard and click on "Go" > "Library" while in the Finder.
    Let me know the results.

  • Why do my iPhone photos import all scrambled?

Some but not all of my photos import with this scrambling through them. They don't appear like this until they are imported through iPhoto. Any help?

This is an ongoing issue for some users. There is no definitive fix. Some foks find that a second attempt at a download will get damaged photos without any issues.

  • Why won't new files import into LR 3.6?

So, there are a couple of new .TIFs that I want to import into an existing LR folder.  Under Import the window shows both of those new files, each checked, as the only ones not already in the LR library.  So I click on import and one of three things happens:  (1) they immediately import, (2) the window goes blank forever except for a message that there's nothing to import, (3) the window goes blank forever with a message "Import in progress...".  This is infuriating, expecially since there appears to be no way to escape from this infinite import loop. Note:  the newly named files open perfectly in PhotoShop when it is invoked outside of LR.  What is LR seeing that PS is not seeing, and how do I correct this bug? Or at least make an orderly retreat from the infinite loop?

  • Why won't my mpeg import into imovie?

    Hi,
Just got a new macbookpro 17inch. Liking it but having to learn the switch to mac. I have an mpeg file i want to try to resize, but imovie doesn't seem to recognize it at all. I thought macs were supposed to be the computers where everything just worked. Why won't it let me take this in? I thought mpegs were fairly common and quicktime has no problem opening it. Am I using the wrong program? Do I need to go back onto my ancient Toshiba and use Windows Movie Maker just to resize a video?

I wonder why apple didn't just make it so that imovie could read those files. If windows movie maker can than it must be possible to do. Wouldn't they have anticipated that someone might take video on a hand held camera and then want to edit that video in some way? Is there some reason or advantage of them having made it this way instead of not just making the program do everything that someone might want to do?
There is a problem regarding the difference in technologies. QT Is Apple's proprietary multimedia software system. It is modeled on magnetic film strips and/or video tape which employ separate audio and video heads/tracks for playback. MPEG-1 files, on the other hand, contain a single stream of data which is composed of interspersed blocks of audio and video data. Thus, the different technologies require different "engines" to work properly. Since Apple only supports its own technology base as it applies to rigid standards, anything outside this scope is not supported. For instance, QT is very particular when it comes to files being properly terminated and proper time coded while muxed formats like MPEG-1, MPEG-2, VOB, Flash, etc. files are notorious for having broken time codes since these files rely on the physical interspersing of data blocks. Windows files are also very rely on FourCC codes/extension for proper playback while QT files frequently rely on the specific data instead for proper playback. In addition, files like MPEG-2 are edited at the GOP (group of pictures) level which normally consist of a repeated cycle of I-, P-, and B-frame types (e.g., IBBPBBPBBPBBPBB) while QT files are edited at the individual frame level. And so on and so forth. While some applications may contain "hybrid" engines to handle multiple technologies, Apple has typically supported its own technologies. They are, for instance, not in the habit of supporting codecs contained in the AVI file container which Microsoft dropped a decade ago but which is still in such common use by Windows users that it has not been allowed to die a dignified death. In short, Apple is looking ahead to the new codecs which are highly scalable and very versatile in terms of data rates/file size efficiency which can handle anything from e-mail clips up to SD content and beyond to full HD encodings. While an MPEG-1 VCD may offer compatibility with a wide range of older devices it does not offer the same quality to storage capacity ratio offered by H.264/AAC encoded files.
how did you quote just specific parts and make them blue.
I use the Level 4 mini text editor.
Are you typing in your own html codes or something?
Sometimes. For instance, the new forms are not as HTML "quote" or "line feed" friendly as the old forum. So I no longer indent the blue quoted text and use the "
" (paragraph) to add additional line spacing.

  • IPhone sometimes won't delete all the photos after I import into iPhoto

Every so often, my iPhone 3GS won't delete some photos after importing into iPhoto and choosing "delete originals." It deletes most of the originals but strangely keeps a certain number around. My basic routine is to "Import All" and then "Delete Originals." This works 98% of the time, but sometimes the iPhone just gets hung up and won't delete the originals until I manually do it from the iPhone itself.

I was looking further into this and I found out that on my Macbook Pro's System Preferences. In the iCloud settings, the "Photos" setting was checked and in the Options next to that, the "My Photo Stream" and "Photo Sharing" was also checked.
I think this was the main problem. After I used iTunes to sync with the photos maybe there was some cache settings or something residual left on the iPhone which let to it being continuously restoring.
This is the fix which I used. It is fine now.
Check in System Preferences for - iCloud >> Photos is unchecked.
Check in System Preferences for - iCloud >> Photos >> Options >> "My Photo Stream" and "Photo Sharing" is unchecked.
Temporarily delete account for iCloud settings on iOS device - Settings >> iCloud (This didn't affect my main iCloud account only deleted my information on the device)
    Re-sync iOS device with iTunes.
Set up your iCloud account on iOS device again.
Hope this helps for anyone having this problem.

  • How do I save my iPhone videos to my MacBook Pro? It seems like they import into iPhoto as photos instead of videos...?

I need to open up some space on my iPhone 5 but I have a ton of videos of my newborn/toddler son on it that I don't want to lose.  What is the best way to ensure they are archived safely to my MacBook Pro hard drive?  It seems that they import into iPhoto along with the photos, but I'm not sure if they stay videos or get turned into photos.  If they are in iPhoto, what's the best way to make sure they get exported and backed up to an external safely.  Thanks in advance for the help!

An imported video cannot change or get turned into a photo file by the import. An imported video will have an icon of a still frame from the video. Have you selected any of the imported videos in iPhoto to watch/play the video?
With a Mac, you can import photos and videos with iPhoto or with the Image Capture application. One is not better than the other.
To include your iPhoto library with your computer's backup, select and drag the iPhoto Library file located in the Pictures folder in your Home directory to the external hard drive.

  • I need help proving the date tag on a photo stored in my iPhoto is from the date it was sent to my iphone/date it was imported into iphoto - and that it is NOT the date the photo was actually taken.  Please help!

I need help proving the date tag on a photo stored in my iPhoto is from the date it was sent to my iphone/date it was imported into iphoto - and that it is NOT the date the photo was actually taken.   I recieved a photo via text on my iphone and then I synced my iphone to my macbook and now it is in iphoto.  I already know that the date on the photo per the tag that shows up on it in iphoto is NOT the date the photo was actually taken.  I need article or literature or something confirming the tag is from when it was sent to the iphone and/or when it was imported.  I greatly appreciate some assistance!

All I am trying to do is find something on a forum board or article etc stating that the the date showing in iphoto could be the date it was imported or synced or sent to me and not the actual date taken.
The date on the photo could be anything because you can edit the date with iPhoto or any of 100 apps, free and paid for. So, the date on the photo will prove nothing, I'm afraid.

  • Backup/Copied Photos won't be recognized or imported into iPhoto library

I recently backup all data to usb hard disk and do a fresh installation of 10.6, and I accidentally create a whole new account w/ different user name (and I don't know whether it might cause any of my problems).
After I copied all my data backup, everything is so OK except all my pictures (jpg files mostly) in ~/Pictures folder won't be recognizable either by quicklook, preview or iPhoto. Also all my 14G iPhoto Library won't work. The files are still here but it just become not recognizable, can not be opened or imported into iPhoto. It told me that "the file is in an unrecognized format", but how could a jpg format not recognized by a MAC?
I updated iLife & iPhoto to latest version, and rebooted my laptop, but nothing changed. I know there might be chances that my pictures got damaged during transferring from hard disk to usb disk, but isn't it too weird that as I drag all my documents, movies, music and pictures at the same time all other files remained unchanged yet ALL my photos (including iPhoto Library) just all of sudden crashed together at the same time?
I am exhausted and can not figure out any posible reason, and would be very appreciated that if someone might suggest any methods, maybe even a clue. plz, plz, plz.........

if I directly double click "iPhoto Library" (which has a plain text like icon preview, not so colorful iphoto library style...), it tells me I should choose the app I wanna open it. After iPhoto chosen and opened, nothing happened, no photos in iPhoto main windows (events, faces, ..., all empty).
I aslo try "show package contents" and locate the exact photos' location in "iPhoto Library", which I believed should be in "iPhoto Library/Original/", all the photos in there could not be quicklook, opened by preview, Photoshop, etc. And the error msg says something like "format unrecognized" stuffs

  • How can I import into iPhoto, from my iPad, albums created on the iPad using Photos App ?

I take about 300 photos a day using my iPad, as i'm filming to help keep continuity.
I then create albums under the scene number from some of the photos taken. Eventually i will build up all of the scene numbers in the script.
I want to import into iPhoto all of these albums.
    How can this be done?
For some reason, when i plug my iPad into the laptop, it won't import screen grabs or all of the photos.
So the fact i have tried to be super organised, the apple software is now letting me down !
Can albums created in the iPad now be imported into iPhoto as albums to keep my organisation ?
    Thanks.

That is not a feature of iPhoto - suggest to Apple - iPhoto Menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback.
With the new Photo app later this year the integration between IOS and the Mac will be much greater

  • I my harddrive with my photo library went bad, but I have the photos on my ipad, ipod and iphone.  How to I get those photos back into iphoto on my macbook?

The external drive with my photo library went bad, but I have the photos on my ipad, ipod and iphone.  How to I get those photos back into iphoto on my macbook?

Are the photos you want to send back to your mac on your iPad, iPod, iPhone saved to the camera roll? If you have photos in other albums (not camera roll) share them to the camera roll.
Then connect your device via USB and lauch iPhoto. You will see your device as a camera in iPhoto.  Import those photos like you would import from a camera.

  • Videos shot on my iPhone 3GS aren't getting imported into iPhoto

Videos I've shot on my iPhone 3GS aren't importing into iPhoto - but the photos are. Noticed this a few weeks ago, believe it occurred as a result of my migration from my old MBP to my new one in mid Jan of this year. Did a rebuild of iPhoto, killed the iPod Photo Cache, to no avail. I had been noticing an issue during the sync process, toward the end, I'd get some message that the "iPhone file 'iPhone' can't be found. Googled and saw that I should kill the iPod Photo cache and turn off "manually manage music and videos." This fixed the "file iPhone not found" issue. I killed all the photos and videos in my camera roll (none show up when I select iPhone in the iPhoto window - so a remaining corrupted photo isn't the issue) and then took a photo and video. The photo imports but not the video. Ideas?
Also, another question, If I go back to manually managing music and videos, then go back to the iPhoto tab in iTunes and select which albums from iPhoto to sync back to my iPhone, is it possible to sync videos (originally shot on my iPhone) back to my iPhone? I want to create an album in iPhoto titled "iPhone Videos."

Thanks for your reply, Graham. I actually solved it last night after 3 hours of fiddling with it. Cleared the photos out of my iPhone, cleaned up and reorganized my photos in iPhoto (deleted & recreated albums), deselected and reselected "manually manage music and videos" in iTunes, deleted iPod Photo Cache (again), rebuilt my iPhoto database and something out of this mix worked.
Something interesting happened when I opened iTunes (w/ iPhone docked) - it asked me to select my photo library (or something to that effect). When I selected "iPhoto Library" it gave me a dialog box saying this isn't the the library that was being synced (not the exact words, but close). I went ahead with it. The weird thing is that the library I selected is my only one - the one I've always used, so not sure what's up with that. Anyway, something worked. Photos and videos are all in the right place. Videos are also now syncing to iPhoto from my iPhone.
