Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?

I like to organise my iPhoto events in a certain way - events with family, events with various holidays, events with other interests, and these events grouped alphabetically together (eg brother, parents, sister,). But lately iPhoto has taken to telling me that there is a problem and "fixes" it ... and the problem seems to be that it wants to arrange these event folders somewhat chronologically. I can move them back into my organisation easily enough ... but why should I? How can I keep it to that arrangement?

You can sort Events manually:
If that doesn't work for you as a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import a number of photos separately to create several Events and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

Sorry no mind readers here so you have to tell us details, context and any error messages - just stating an abstract problem that could have thousands of causes is not enough
What version of iPhoto? Of the OS? what has changed since it worked? How are you trying to open it (clicking on the icon in the Dock, double clicking on the application in the applications folder, ???)?
Anything else you can tell a total stranger who can not see you or your computer to let them assist you?

Why won't iPhoto 11 in Mavericks open or create books, cards, etc? I can't open existing projects or create new ones. Nothing happens when I try to open a project: alsop, nothing happens when I click 'Create' when trying a make a card, book, etc. All very frustrating.

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
Post back with the result.

I recently deleted my iChat account and I do not want to use Bonjour List. I am on the administer account and there are no other accounts created on my computer. Parental controls are also not on. Why won'y iChat let me add a new account, I am trying to add my AIM account. If you could please help me.

HT4743 When I try to buy a tv episode, it comes up with a message "problems communicating with itunes store, try later" click ok and then another messge comes up to verify payment info online. Everything is correct. Why won't it let me buy??

When I try to buy a tv episode on apple tv, it gives me a message of "problems connecting with store, try again later". I hit ok, and then another message comes up to go online and verify payment information. I have done that, all info is correct. Why won't it let me purchase? This has been going on for days.

I figured it out!
I read a solution for something that sounded similar.
Anyone in similar position:
Open iTunes app on iPhone, and pick an option from bottom, such as music. Then scroll down to bottom of page and where your iTunes ID is, press on it, and pick sign out.
Then return to home screen, and double press home button and press and hold on first icon showing, until a minus symbol appears in the top left of icons present. Press on each minus symbol on each app in turn, until all app icons have disappeared. Then Restart the phone by pressing and hold the home button and the on/off/standby button at top of phone, until the apple symbol appears in centre of blank screen.
Swipe to turn phone fully on and open settings and scroll down to iTunes and apps option and tap that. Pick sign in and put in your apple ID, it will accept it and then return to home screen and open iTunes a you'll find it works fine
Simple really, but some like me won't think f this themselves!

You can try to make a new account on iTunes Store if you didnt have yet.
I had the same problem with iTunes Store, the only thing you can do is to put some money on that credit card you are using with you account. iTunes Store already keeping some money for the last purchase you made you can see all info on the Account option and then Purchase history ...

Why won't Itunes let me use my store credit to gift an item

I want to gift a couple songs to my boyfriend, but when i try to gift the songs it asks for my credit card information. i have over $100 in itunes store credit from gift cards. i want to use that money to purchase the songs i will be gifting. why won't itunes allow that? i looked up tutorials and gifting should be easy and all you submit is the other person's email but thats not happening for me.

Why won't Apple let me set duckduckgo as my default search engine for safari?

I am using a iPad Mini and Safari only lists three options for a default search engine (google, bing, yahoo), all of which lack privacy. I would like to set my default to duckduckgo and would prefer not to modify my iPad illegally or use secondary apps (duckduckgo app). Why won't Apple just let me modify my default search engine manually? I quite enjoy Safari and don't like wasting space with other browsers on my iPad.

No browser can insure privacy.
The options Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Period.

Oh, c'mon! Why won't iPhoto 11 import my photos?

I'm running iPhoto 11 on a 2 year old Macbook Air on 10.7.4. I have several photo albums that I sync to my first generation iPad. I've created a new album of photos from the internet. I've added 93 photos to the album, but now when I try to add the last 65 or so photos (roughly 12 - 15MB total) I get an error message saying "INSUFFICIENT DISC SPACE: iPhoto cannot import your photos because there is not enough free space on the volume containing your iPhoto".
What gives?
- I have 22 GB of spare disk space on the computer
- my iPhoto library contains 2,762 photos, about 11GB of disk space
- there's another 1.5 GB of space on my iPad for sync'ing added photos
- I checked and Photostream isn't connecting to iCloud, and even if it were, I have 2.5GB of free space
What's going on? My iPhoto library appears to be in the default position, in the Pictures folder.
Anyone can shed any light, I'd be v. grateful.

Where does Iphoto store ratings, arrangement of photos, events, libraries?

Hi, I currently have Leopard, I was planning on doing a clean install with Snow Leopard soon. Afterwards I plan on restoring Iphoto back to the way it was. I have a 70 gb library and importing my photos, rearranging the events, photos, and libraries would take ages if I had to start from scratch. I have my whole computer backed up using Carbon Copy Cloner. My question is where does Iphoto store the ratings, manual arrangement of photos, events, libraries, etc? Thanks

iPhoto is a relational database program and everything is stored in the iPhoto library - it must be treated as a single entity - it is not possible to isolate components in it - simply drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the clone back to the pictures folder of the main computer
To test prior to doing an erase and install (the Mac does not have a "clean install") you can depress the option key and launch iPhoto and select the backup copy and test it - be sure to do an option launch and paint back to the main library afterwards

Why won't iPhoto download? I've downloaded the new Yosemite and now it won't let me download iphoto 9.6

I have a Macbook pro. I recently downloaded Yosemite and once that had downloaded iphoto was not compatible (it had a barred sign across it). So I moved it to the trash bin and went to the app store to download the latest version of iphoto 9.6. However when I get there it says install but when I try and click on it nothing is happening. No pop up comes up, the button does not change to say installing. I do not understand. Please help!

If you're having problems with the App Store you might try this:
1 - enable the Debug menu in App Store:
open the Terminal application.
copy the command below and paste into the Terminal window:
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
followed by Enter.
launch App Store, login.
2 - select the Debug ➙ Reset Application option:
3 - try again.

My iPhoto is update, so why won't it let me do photo stream in iCloud

I want to use photo stream on iCloud, however I'm told to update latest version of iphoto. When I check with updates, I'm told my software is updated. What can I do?

Anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID.
