Why won't iphoto respond?

My iphoto opens, but does not "respond". It has the loading rainbow swirl going for a long time, and it won't open iphoto. I tried to update the software by going to "Software update", and so far everything is up to date. I don't know what else to do. Help me please.
Thank you.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Why won't iPhoto 11 in Mavericks open or create books, cards, etc?

Why won't iPhoto 11 in Mavericks open or create books, cards, etc? I can't open existing projects or create new ones. Nothing happens when I try to open a project: alsop, nothing happens when I click 'Create' when trying a make a card, book, etc. All very frustrating.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

What version of iPhoto? Of the OS? what has changed since it worked? How are you trying to open it (clicking on the icon in the Dock, double clicking on the application in the applications folder, ???)?

  • Why won't iPhoto '11 display CR2 tags for Canon 7D raw files

iPhoto '11 won't display CR2 tags for the raw files from my Canon 7D. I didn't have any problem with my Rebel ST or any previous version of iPhoto.
Any help to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Allan

What a pity you didn't make the clear in your initial post. Would have saved us both some time.
It might also help to clarify some terminology. What you are calling the "image file number" is the Title of the photo. When you haven't added a tite, iPhoto uses the filename.
You can easily sort Raws from jpegs as Raws are automatically tagged with a keyword on import. So a quick smart album will tell them apart.
As to why it hasn't been fixed, you will have to ask Apple that question, no one here knows and Apple aren't here.

  • Why won't AE respond

I'm working on a project and AE won't respond except by making a bell like sound. I imagine that it's doing something, but what and why is it taking so long?

This usually means there is a dialog box open. The dialog box may be on another monitor, or hidden behind another application's window. If you don't see a dialog box, press the Esc key, which should exit the dialog and return you to the user interface. If that doesn't work, try the Enter key.
I assume you're on Windows; sometimes Windows gets confused and doesn't place the application in focus, which could also cause this problem. Try switching to a different application and then back to After Effects.

  • Why Won't iPhoto Export My Slideshow?

I import photos to iPhoto from my Canon Rebel. They were taken as RAW. I create a folder and name it within iPhoto. I place 50 images and order them the way I want. I then "Select All" the 50 photos in the folder just to play it safe. I click the Plus button and choose Slideshow. I go through all the steps, selecting the theme, selecting the Apple canned music (so that there won't be a copyright issue), I set my settings... Show Title, play music through slideshow, etc. I then click the Preview button. It works fine! I then tap the Play button. My slideshow fills the screen and does as I have asked it to. I then make sure that my slideshow is selected in the left column (it has not been unselected since I started this maneuver) and I click the Export button at the bottom of the window.  HERE IS WHERE, AS I SAID BEFORE, EXPORT DOES NOT WORK.... A dialog box comes up: "Export your slideshow Choose a format based on where you will view your slideshows;___Format:" (I have chosen all three choices many, many times trying to get beyond this point.)  "Automatically send slideshow to iTunes" has been selected, BTW.  I then hit the export button and the navigator dialog box opens and I choose my folder called iPhoto Slideshows. I click OK.  At this point the export progress dialog box opens and sits there... the thumbnail rectangle remains BLACK. The progress bar never changes from its standard GREY.  The only text on the export slideshow dialog box remains the same and says: "Exporting Slideshow ..."  Fearing there was a hiccup somewhere, I have left this window open and able to work OVERNIGHT, just in case. Nothing. I have tried all three formats. I have changed the destination folder. Nothing.
I have had this problem for months. Have asked this forum for help. I have been told nothing is wrong with iPhoto.
So here's my new question: "What am I suppose to do about this problem that I have explained above?"
I would say my copy of iPhoto is corrupt, if there is nothing wrong with iPhoto in general. Is this a possibility?  In which case.... How do I get another iPhoto app without having to pay for it?
Or do you have some other reason this process is not working on my Mac Pro with OS X  10.9.5 (13F34)?
This is the fifth time I have had to export all my photos to my laptop and use Snow Leopard with iPhoto 9.2.3 in order to finish my projects.
Please help with these EXPORT FAILURE questions.
    Thank you, very much.

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Why won't Adobe respond to my inquiry regarding the failure to deliver the product I purchased?

I seem to be in a vacuum with Adobe and their customer support. I cannot get answers from anyone on this subject. I love Adobe products, but I am sad to say that right now they are stealing from me. The support people in India simply cannot address this situation because it does not seem to fall into their protocol. I have sent emails to almost every department (including to report that Adobe has pirated me). No Response.
    On 8-27-2012, I purchased a 1 year pre-paid subscription to photoshop CS6. I paid $248.86 for the pre-paid card.
The card arrived and I went to this address to redeem the card: www.creativecloud.com/redeem
I entered the 24 digit card number and that allowed me to download and use the software. Great!
1 month into my membership, I had a technical issue with Adobe Bridge. I called technical support and spoke to a guy in India who asked me for my serial number. I never had a serial number, I had a pre-paid card. He asked me for my adobe ID (I have an Adobe ID because I have another subscription to Illustrator, which is working fine). I gave him my ID and he told me that I do not have Photoshop CS6.
After much explanation and transfers to the highest levels of support, the guys in India decided to just hang-up on me. They could not resolve my issue, so they hung up on me. LITERALLY!
I have called and chatted with support for at least 13 more hours since then. I have been late with a project and lost a client since then. I have called the local Adobe office in San Francisco and the girl at the desk couldnt help me. I have sent an e-mail to multiple employees of Adobe. I have posted on this forum multiple times. NO ANSWERS!
I purchased a pre-paid subscription to Adobe, and they will not honor the subscription because the format in which I purchased the subscription was short lived (pre-paid card). Today, you can purchase a monthly subscription on creative cloud.com. On 8-27-2012, you could not. You had to buy a card from Amazon or Staples.
Adobe has failed to respond to me in any of the ways that I have attempted to contact them. I keep getting forwarded to the support guys in India who don't have any way of helping me unless I have a serial number. I was never given a serial number, but I am holding the card that I bought and the receipt that I received from Amazon.
This has been the most frustrating experience I have ever encountered with a company. I work for VMware and I expect more from a company like Adobe. This situation has become so over the top frustrating. I feel like I was just scammed on Craigslist.... but I was scammed by Adobe of all companies. UNREAL!!!
Would anyone with a heart beat care to help me resolve this issue? Anyone at all who works for Adobe? Please have some sense of obligation to a loyal customer. It's $250 that I paid you, not much for you to resolve, but it meens plenty to me. I just dont want Adobe to steal $250 from me. But thats whats happening here.
    Thanks!- R

    Hi Curt,
Thank you for your response. This is why I say I am in a vacume. I did not buy a creative cloud membership, I bought a pre-paid card which did not require an adobe ID or come with a serial number. Your response is very similar to those in India, they want my serial number or my adobe ID. Neither show my pre-paid card purchase. I think the pre-paid card idea was short lived at adobe. Sometime after August 2012, they offered CS6 subscriptions on Creative Cloud, and the pre-paid card purchasers were SOL when something went wrong. I would love to register my CS6 subscription with my Adobe ID... I was never given that option. I know its hard to believe, and there is a chance that this is UE. But at the end of the day, Adobe should be able to help me address this situation. I have the card in my hand, and I have the reciept in my hand. No one from Adobe has been able to help me despite that. It is a disconnect with their pre-paid card offering and creative cloud offering. I will give anyone my pre-paid card number, adobe ID and my purchase reciept if they can solve this riddle. (I'm 5 months and 15-20 hours of phone time into it and still no resolution). The fine people in India dont have the capacity to troubleshoot this. Adobe has no other source to resolve this except the ones I am taking now... posting on user forums, calling local offices, reporting piracy... I'm doing everything short of handcuffing myself to the doors of the closest Adobe office.) It's bad news man. But thank you for your response.

  • Why won't iPhoto Export Slideshows in Mavericks?

After setting up a slideshow in iPhoto 9.5.1 running on a PowerMac with OS 10.9.5 (Mavericks), the app will not export the slideshow. Why not? How do I get a copy of iPhoto that works? Is Apple no longer supporting iPhoto? When and where will this be announced and what is the work-around suppose to be?

    1 - iPHoto is supported
2 - iPhoto can export slideshows
3 - if you want help you need to actually provide information - like what does happen - what error messages - anything else - simply saying "it does not work is not enough to have anyone help you solve your specific problem

    Hi
Depends on which iPhoto Library You are using. As iMovie looks only in the one in
Your User Account / Photos / iPhoto Library
So If You in iPhoto address Your material to an iPhoto Library on an external Hard Disk - then iMovie can not find it and it's content.

  • Why won't iPhoto import D700 RAW images?

Yesterday I tried to import 809 RAW (NEF) images from my Nikon D700 camera into the iPhoto program on a friend's iMac. It imported one image, but refused to import the remaining 808! I don't understand why it didn't accept the whole batch.
The iMac in question is a 20" Intel unit purchased new in 2006. The OS system has been upgraded to Leopard (version 10.5.8) and iPhoto to version 8.1.2. There's still plenty of available space (145 GB) on the hard drive.
Any ideas on what the problem might be and how to remedy it?
    Bob

    Larry,
    Thanks for the reply.
I can confirm that D700 RAW images were downloadable to earlier versions of iPhoto than iPhoto '11.
Until January 2012 I had a 20" Intel iMac purchsed in 2007 that was very similar to that of my friend. It also had Leopard  and iPhoto '09, and I was able to download D700 RAW images to it. In fact, one of the main reasons I upgraded that iMac from Tiger and iPhoto '06 to Leopard and iPhoto '09 was so that I could download D700 RAW images.
I now have a new 27" iMac with Lion and iPhoto '11 and have no problems downloading D700 RAW images.
I remain puzzled why the D700 RAW files--with the exception of one--wouldn't download to my friend's  iMac.

  • Why won't iPhoto open?

I've just tried to open iPhoto (5.0.4), the version that came with OS X and the only version I've got. iPhoto won't open.
A dialogue box says: "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
The problem is I don't have another version of iPhoto. And I'm not aware of having made any changes with another, newer, version. What should I do?
BTW, I don't want an upgrade... If the only way I can access my iPhoto folders, albums, files and slideshows is to pay for an upgrade simply because I may have (unknowingly) added images that someone else had in a newer version, then the whole thing smells like a scam...
I hope there are other options...

    iHope
It's not a scam, and guess what, even upgrading will not solve this issue. You have to fix this problem first.
iPhoto is an excellent app, but sometimes it gives misleading error messages. Your database file has been damaged - by a crash, perhaps? - and when the app tries to open it all it sees is a database file it doesn't recognise. It then gives this message.
    This article

will help you recover the situation.
Or, you can restore your back up.

  • Why won't iPhoto won't open?

iPhoto won't open. The rainbow circle just goes round and the computer sounds like it's about to take off. Can only close with ctrl/option/start button.

Look in the Users/Library/Preferences file for a
    com.apple.iphoto.plist
file and delete it, reboot the computer and relaunch iPhoto.
Still having issues, it could be more serious.
Get a new external drive, use Disk Utility in the Utilities folder to Erase> format it HFS+ Journaled and click Erase.
Copy the contents of your use file folders (Music, Documents, Pictures etc) to the external drive.
    When finished, disconnect the drive.
Find your Snow Leopard 10.6.x grey disks that came with the computer, stick the first one in and reboot the computer holding the c key.
(iPhoto only comes free on the GREY DISKS, not the white 10.6 upgrade disks)
Second screen in, simply install OS X, when finished and your back in, run Software Update.
That should fix your issues with iPhoto and anything else in OS X  as it's simply reinstalled.
If your still having problems, the next step would be to right click on your iPhoto Library and "Show Package Contents" find your "Originals" folder of your pictures and copy those out to another folder in Pictures.
Delete the iPhoto Library, then open iPhoto and import those pictures again.
If everything is fine then your ok, if your still having problems, one or more of the pictures is likely corupted or something is wrong with your user.
You can copy the original pictures folder to the Shared Folder, then go into the System Preferences and create a new user, log into it and copy those shared photos's, import them into iPhoto and see if that works.
Somewhere along the line your going to find out what is causing your issue.
Download the free OnyX and run all it's maintainence and cleaning aspect and REBOOT at the end or you'll be unhappy.
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/
When doing all this, make sure to have two copies of your data files at all times.

  • Why won't iPhoto import videos from iPhone 6 Plus?

iPhoto on iMac will not import the videos from my iPhone 6Plus.  It says there is an error, and it doesn't recognize the format.  That makes no sense.  Both are brand new apple products.  Now all my videos on my iPhone are "white" pictures.  On the computer there is a standard icon for each video that won't open.  What is happening?  Have I lost these videos (22 of them).  How could this be?

Please read the warranty paperwork that came w/your computer.
You have 14 days to return the computer w/no questions asked.
You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support on top of your standard 1 year warranty unless you also purchased AppleCare which gives you an additional 2 years of coverage plus FREE phone support.
