Why won't iTunes 12 open on Windows 7?

I doubleclick on the icon from my desktop and it does nothing.  I tried opening from the Start Menu, nothing.  I tried uninstalling itunes and reinstalling, nothing.  When I check the task manager, it doesn't even register that it is even trying to open. What gives?

  • Why won't itunes work with windows 8.1?  i tunes can not locate my music.

Why won't windows 8.1 let itunes locate my music?  I deleted and downloaded, still won't do it.  But like majic after I installed windows 8.1 my computer had a XBOX music player appear, that found my 3200 songs and it was able to play the entire library no problem.  Any ideas on how i get itunes to start working with windows 8.1?

    Hi zachwill10,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
To resolve this issue you may need to uninstall iTunes and all of it's components, and reinstall the latest version as explained in this article:

  • Why won't iTunes open when I plug in my iPod?

I plugged in my iPod, and if I already have iTunes open, I need to close it because it freezes. However, when I try to re-open iTunes, it will not open. I recently updated iTunes to 7.2 and I also updated my iPod software to the most current one. What should I do? I wanted to restore my iPod, because it kept skipping songs before, but now I can't even open up iTunes to restore my iPod. Please help .

Over time I've come across a number of posts concerning iTunes for Windows not opening. One conclusion from other Windows users that you might want to check out has been that it could be the result of malware on your PC. The advice has been to try scanning for malware with AVG Anti-Spyware, you'll find a free trial download at this link: ewido Networks

  • Why won't iTunes open?  It's been deleted and redownloaded seven times now!

I used to have my iTunes on a mac and it worked just fine.. but I had to switch everything over to my computer, which is a pc... so I had to re-format my nano. That, as you know, deleted all of my songs. I downloaded iTunes 7.. it wouldn't open... I deleted it and tried the process again. Nothing happened. I did it about seven more times. Nothing. So now, I have a nano with no songs... and a computer that won't open iTunes. I have Windows XP. I see no reason for this. It's driving me insane. I'm ready to throw it all out the window. PLEASE HELP ME... I WILL DO ANYTHING!!!!!!

I have tried deleting programs to create more space on my hard drive, thinking that was the problem, but no success. I notice when I try to launch itunes my CPU usage goes to 100%, drops to 4% and then the application stops trying to launch and the hour glass goes away. I tried reinstalling my original software (iTunes 4,I think), and it worked ok, but I was not allowed to use the music store unless I upgraded to iTunes 7. As soon as I did that, it started all over again with the iTunes application not starting. I do not get any type of error at all. I get nothing, just like you!!!
Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Why won't iTunes open and what does this error message mean?

I can't open up my iTunes. I've tried reinstalling it but it still doesn't work. I get an error message that reads: The procedure entry point kCMByteStreamNotification_AvailableLengthChanged could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreMedia.dll. I press ok and then another message pops up reading: iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 127). I don't get an error message when I hook up my iPod but it doesn't bring up iTunes either and restarting my computer doesn't seem to help. I don't want to completely remove iTunes from my computer because I'm afraid I'll lose most of my music since most of it were on CDs which I no longer have. Help?

I am having this same problem. I took Kappy advice on restarting the Apple Mobile Device Service, however that did not work. I got this message in a pop up window that came up immediately.
Windows could not start the Apple Mobil Device Service on local computer.
Error 1053  The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
I have already uninstalled itunes, all the related programs and I cannot reinstall, this Apple Mobil Device message stops the install.
    Can anyone please help?

  • Why won't iTunes open in my PC?

I tried opening it but then it wouldn't open.  I tried to remove it and then installing it again.  It still wouldn't open.  I did this step a couple of times already but I still got the same results, apparently.  I read the steps on Removing and Reinstalling iTunes here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925.  I'm afraid to follow all the steps because I fear that deleting the other components might delete back-ups.  I really need to redownload iTunes because I need to restore my new iPhone 5s from my iPhone 5 back up and I don't have another laptop where the phone was recently backed-up.  Please help because there are some really important business information in the phone.  Also, before the 5s  problem, the iPhone 5 was updated to iOS 7.0.6.  It was backed up before that but then the data could not be restored after updating.  Please help ASAP.  Thanks My laptop is a Song VAIO Windows 7 Home Premium

  • Why won't iTunes open up?

What is it with iTunes 6? I don't understand. Why, out of nowhere, does this version fail to work? All other versions worked fine for me. I regret upgrading to iTunes 6. I've looked around the different posts that related to my problem and I've tried some suggestions, including MSCONFIG, deleting that file in the Apple Computer folder, and uninstalling and reinstalling my iTunes. Are there any solutions that actually work? If so, I'd really like to know. And I don't wanna mess around with my anti-virus program or the firewall. Come on. Honestly. Is there anything else that I can possibly do to fix this? I'd really love to upload some new music to my iPod. How many times can you listen to the same songs over and over?

There's no reason why you should have any issues after a restore (which is a common fix for many iPod ills).
However, here's a couple of articles that addresses such a problem. Maybe keep them handy for future reference?

  • Why won't iTunes open other iPhoto Libraries?

Here's what I am trying to do.... I want to stream one of my iPhoto Libraries to my ATV (3rd Gen). All the help pages I find online tell me to:
    1) Go into iTunes (CHECK!)
    2) Turn on Home Sharing (CHECK!)
    3) Click File > Home Sharing > Choose Photos... (CHECK!)
    4) Click the checkbox to share (CHECK!)
Here's where it loses me. I don't really use the iPhoto library on my iMac. I have an external (Mac formatted) drive I use to store iPhoto Libraries. I have a library for each calendar year (so I am not stuck with one huge library file).
So when I navigate to that folder in iTunes (choosing the "Choose Folder" option on the Home Sharing dialog), it shows the Libraries, but they are all grayed out and cannot be selected.
There has to be some way to select another library besides the one I have on my iMac (which is generally empty)... Right?
I can choose my primary iPhoto Library on the iMac without issue. But it won't let me choose any other iPhoto Library.
    Thanks for your help.

    Not via iTunes I'm afraid.
Apple expect users to do things in fairly simple/predictable ways and although they allow multiple libraries, you can't choose different ones via iTunes.
Is iPhoto currently configured to open teh empty library?
If so, what happens if you open iPhoto whilst holding the option (alt) key and set one of the external ones as default?  Does that then get selected for iTunes sharing?  I'd assume it would but have not tried this recently.

I was just on it a few hours ago. The battery died, and when I tried to get on iTunes after it had charged, it wouldn't open.

  • Why Won't iTunes Open After Updating?

    Hello,
I updated iTunes today because I wanted to import songs from a CD onto it. After updating iTunes, I received the following messages after trying to open iTunes. (http://imgur.com/Rv2jOWa) The second message would appear after clicking "Okay" on the first message. I tried reinstalling iTunes through Apple. I also uninstalled myself after Apple's way didn't work 3 times in a row. I tried twice myself and after all that it still displays those messages after trying to open iTunes. I've never had a problem with iTunes before.

  • Why won't iTunes open?

My iTunes will not open. I tried many things that I have found online already, but it simply will not open. I tried repairing QuickTime, iTunes, deleting Bonjour, deleting iTunes, reinstalling it, updating it, restarting the computer etc. Nothing seems to be working. I click the icon, and it seems like it will open (the little loading circle comes up) and then nothing... I am using an HP Pavilion dv7 laptop. I recently purchased another iPod (iPod classic 7th Gen) and after plugging it into the computer, iTunes wouldn't open. I am not sure if this was a coincidence, meaning this somehow happened between the last time I used iTunes and buying this iPod, or if it is somehow linked to me plugging in my new iPod.. Please help!

The simplest trick for this might be to delete your library file, then re-add all your music back in. It shouldn't take more than a minute or two.
Your library file is in My Documents: My Music: Itunes: Itunes Library.

  • Why won't iTunes open on my iPhone ?

    Hi all,
Every time I try to open the iTunes Store on my phone (5) it just immediately closes again.
I have tried the power off/on and even re synced with my iTunes account but this does not help.

  • Why won't itunes open after being downloaded?

Please help I am about to cry with frustration! I have tried for a week to install itunes on my laptop for my new nano. The download seems to work but when I click on the icon itunes does not open. Quicktime works. I have tried uninstalling fully and then re-installing after re-starting but had no joy.
    Can anyone help ?
    Thank you

No error message at all. Hourglass appears for a few seconds and then nothing.
I don't have Norton and have tried disabling my virus software and then running it but still nothing.
Ahhh, thank you kindly. that's already ruled out a couple of possible culprits.
One last preliminary question aimed at diagnosing the issue prior to trying a treatment.
reboot the PC. bring up your Task Manager, and click on the "Processes" tab. now try to launch itunes again.
does an "itunes.exe" process appear in the Processes tab? if so, does it persist in there or does it disappear after a few seconds?
