Why won't iTunes import one song from a CD?

Occasionally when I import a CD to my iTunes library via the File menu/Import CD on Snow Leopard; iTunes 10, iTunes appears to skip a song and no information appears when I enter the search terms in the search box.  This happens even though all title information appears before I click "Import CD" and all the boxes are checked.
I've found that if the CD is still inserted, I can import the songs to a single playlist by dragging the titles to it.  So apparently the song did import, but for some reason doesn't appear in the library list.
This isn't usually a problem, but (1) I'd like to know why it happens and (2) how to prevent it, since I'd rather have the complete information in my library.  Thanks for anything you can tell me!

I found a solution.
I was importing music from my desktop into iTunes ver. 11.02 but no matter what there was one pesky mp3 from an album that would not import (add to Library).  Get Info from the Finder revealed this particular mp3 was set to default to iTunes yet double clicking would not launch iTunes.  Nothing would happen.  I tried changing the default application although the file would play through VLC it still would not Add to Library.  The file would not appear in the Library or in Recenly Added playlist.  It's as if to iTunes it didn't exist.  Interestingly, from the desktop the file would play through the Finder (spacebar).
I use the excellent and free XLD program for converting FLAC to Apple Lossless.  Using this program, I set the output preference to LAME mp3 and opened the pesky mp3 through XLD thereby creating a duplicate.  That duplicate file imported to iTunes perfectly.
So while I don't know the cause, it seems the solution was to simply rewrite the mp3 to get it to play nice in iTunes.

  • Why won't iTunes play some songs from the cloud

I am traveling with my MacBook Pro and opened my iTunes library.  I have iTunes Match also.  Some of my albums have the cloud with the down-pointing arrow...but they won't play and when you click on it, nothing happens.  What am I missing?

I will try that on my Macbook Pro when I get home, if I can figure out how to do it (some more detailed instructions would help. . .).  The problem I'm having is songs I ripped from CDs into my iTunes library.  The songs and CDs are all available for purchase on iTunes, so I'm not talking about some obscure music. iTunes recognizes them.  Some of the songs from a given CD play; others do not.  In two cases, entire albums won't play.  were originally ripped from CDs into my iTunes library on an HP computer running Windows 7 (my Macbook doesn't have a CD drive).  All of the songs appear and play fine there.  However, the "grayed out" iCloud icon problem exists (and I can't play those songs) on my Macbook, my iPhone 5S or on my PC at work - which leads me to believe it's an iCloud or iTunes problem. . .

  • How do I import one song from a cd into Itunes 12.01?

Hello, I updated my laptop to Itunes 12.01: software is IOS X 10.9.5. I have inserted a cd and opened itunes. first surprise I found was that I can only see the cd, with its songs, it will not let me see playlists at the same time. and the only option that seems to be available was to import all the Cd but I only want to impor one or two songs from it. how do I do it? I tried highlighting but it will go back to the first song to star importing. also tried to play the song but still will go back to the first to import.

Remove the checkmarks for the songs you do not want.
To prevent songs from importing, click "no" after you insert the CD.
When the list of songs appears in the iTunes window, click to remove the checkmark next to any songs you don’t want to import.
To add the selected songs to your library, click Import CD near the top right of the iTunes window.

  • Why won't itunes import anything from my ipod?

I can understand not importing music and videos, since those are supposed to only be linked to one computer (or so), but why doesn't itunes have any way to sync my playlists from the ipod, or pull the free podcasts that I listen to on my device?  I've just recently switched computers, and it's a complete pain to find the two dozen podcasts in itunes, and the playlists that I created on the device were wiped off of it without transferring.  why is it a feature to erase a playlist that was created locally?

I've noticed that since installing the latest update (12.1) I can't import any music from my folders that hadn't been there since before the update. Some songs will play but a majority of them don't and I was wondering why.

  • Why can't I import my songs from iTunes onto my nano?

I installed the software after I got my new nano and I transferred my already downloaded mp3s into the iTunes library. I'm trying to import them and it won't let me. What do I do now? Please help!

    Angie,
Sorry for not being more specific last time--here's a little clearer explanation:
    - Connect your nano to your computer and wait for iTunes to start up
    - Your nano will show up as an icon in iTunes
    - Go to the Edit Menu & select 'Preferences'
    - Click on the iPod tab
    - Click the button for 'Automatically update selected playlists only'
    - Select only one playlist (for now) so that everything will fit on your nano
    - Allow iTunes to update your nano
    - When update is complete, click on the nano icon--you should see the appropriate playist (greyed out because it's updated automatically)
    - Click on the playlist and you should see the same songs as are in the playlist on your computer (again, greyed out)
If all of the above works, you can now start creating smart playlists specifically for your nano. Here's one that I use that I named 'nano Jazz':
    - Match the following rule: Genre contains Jazz
    - Limit to 40 songs selected by random
    - Match only checked songs
    - Live updating
The 'nano Jazz' playlist is one of my selected playlists to update automatically. Now, if I wanted to have the songs change, all I have to do is delete one in the playlist (not in the Library) and another pops in. I could get even fancier and add a rule that would select songs that haven't been played for a while, or that have a low or high playcount, etc., etc.
Well, hope this didn't get too long. You can see how cool this whole setup is--not just an MP3 player, but an entire smart audio experience. (Wow, sounds like a commercial... .
    Have fun!
    Regards,
    David

  • Why won't iTunes import from CD

iTunes will not import from a CD. It says Tunes could not save to my Music folder because I do not have write access. It says check permissions in my Music folder and folders in my Music folder . I have checked every folder I think is involved from iTunes to the libraries and they all show read/write for my login. I'm using iTunes 7.6.2. Any ideas what might be wrong?

rdog2, updating to 7.6.2 has nothing to do with your issue, but I fail to understand why iTunes sends you a dialog box regarding permissions. When you set up your computer, did you set any of the security options for your hard drive? Have you checked your iTunes preferences carefully to ensure that you have not accidentally made some settings that would enable such restrictions?
Barring that, are you certain that the CDs that you are trying to import are not among those titles that the music industry did, indeed, apply copy protection to?
You may have to delete your current copy of iTunes and reinstall it in order to get back to the default settings. This is not a time-consuming activity, and it may be an easy way to solve your problem. What you would want to do is to delete ALL of the files in your Music sub-directory EXCEPT the one called iTunes Music. Move that folder out of the Music folder and RENAME IT TO ANYTHING ELSE. Delete your current copy of iTunes, restart the computer then go to Apple Support Downloads for a new copy and reset your BASIC preferences. Once you've done that you may choose "Add to Library" from the file menu then navigate to your renamed folder, click on that folder and all of your music files will be restored to your new library.
If you then cannot load these CDs, you can assume that you have made some drastic security settings somewhere else on your computer that you will have to search for.

  • Why won't itunes find my songs?

I have Itunes on my Windows PC (of course, that is why I am in this community forum!).
Since the last itunes update, and for reasons unknown, itunes suddenly cannot find at least half or my 20k+ songs! Most of you know the drill ... the now un-findable songs have a next to them, and when I click the song to play it, I get the dialog box saying: "The song [insert song name] could not be used because the original file could not be located. Would you like to locate it?". I click the {locate} button, go through the process of finding my song file, click on it ... then the next dialog box comes up: "Would you like iTunes to use the location of [insert song name] to find the other missing files in your library?" I click the {find files} button. After a couple of seconds, another dialog box comes up: "iTunes was unable to locate any of your 20,003 missing files. Files that could not be found will be marked with a "!".."  I click the {OK} button in disgust! ***?!
I really do not (won't) go through my entire itunes library and individuallly "locate" all 10k+ "missing songs". And, believe me, I have tried EVERY forum, youtube, etc. suggestion (short of sorting and deleting the missing files that one guy suggested!) for an "automatic/systematic" fix and nothing has worked so far.
And, yes, my iTunes song location preferences is correct set. EVERYTHING in the set-up is correct ---- I just can't seem to figure out the problem.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is it an Ituens on Windows PC the root of the problem? Can somebody, andybody REALLY help a Brotha' out with this problem?!

  • Why won't iTunes import my mp3s?

I have some mp3s that itunes (on OSX) simply won't import. I am starting with a brand new library, right click on the files, open with iTunes, iTunes opens and nothing else happens. I don't get any errors. It's frustrating. Any idea what the deal is? If the mp3s are incompatible or ID3s are problematic, any tools I can use to fix them? They seem to play fine in other software.
Edit: The music adds to my library effortlessly when I drop it into the iTunes/iTunes Media folder. But why should it matter where it is (currently tryign to add via an attached drive which works fine for most mp3s, but not all)?
    Thanks.

The headers on the problem tracks may be corrupted or nonstandard. This can happen with some MP3 conversion or import utilities, and iTunes is very picky about headers. If you search the web for "mp3 repair" you'll find a number of repair tools. Here is one I've seen mentioned:
    Mp3 Validator Mac version
I haven't tried ot myself, so I can't attest to how well (or indeed if) it works, but it would probably be worth a try.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why won't iTunes play some songs?

I have an album that iTunes, and only iTunes, refuses to play. There are 11 songs and 9 of them are unnable to be imported to or played with iTunes.
-The files still work as they can successfully be opened with Quicktime and Windows Media Player.
-All the files are the same type as all of the other songs I have that will play, and appear to have no errors.
    -My iTunes is up-to-date.
-These songs would play before, and are even on my iPod, but recently they
-The songs will not appear in my library at all. I DOT NOT have the problem where the "!" appears. All files are accounted for, the problem is that I cannot open them in iTunes.
simply will not be played through iTunes.
Is there a way to fix this?
    BTW...I'm using Vista...

  • Why won't itunes match all songs in library

While enabling iTunes Match, it has only downloaded some of my iTunes library for Home Sharing

Thank you both for your responses.  I keep receivng the same error message.  I tried to paste a screenshot into this response, but was unable to do so.
    The error message reads:
    12462 of 14271 songs checked.
    iTunes has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
iTunes Match has encountered an error.  Please choose Sign Out and then Sign In from the Store menu and try again.
I have rebooted, signed out of iTunes Match, and then in again.  When I sort library by iCloud status, I can see different iCloud symbols, including an iCloud symbol with an exclamation point within it, an iCloud symbol with a slash through it, or a symbol with nothing in it, etc.  When I hold the cursor over the symbol, it either reads "Error", "Ineligible", or "Waiting".  Or, in other songs, there is no symbol.
Let me try to follow your instructions above, and see if I can resolve some of the songs that weren't able to be downloaded.  Thank you.

  • HT1473 Why won't iTunes import my WMA files when I add a folder?

I had been using iTunes on a Windows 7 machine, and it would import WMA files with no problem.  I decided to move to iTunes on my MacBook Pro, and iTunes will only import the files that are already in mp3 format.  It just ignores the files that are in WMA format.

The Mac version of iTunes doesn't convert WMA files. Use a third party tool or convert them on a Windows system.

  • Why won't iTunes record all songs I tell it to onto an MP3 disc?

    Latest version of iTunes....
When I try to record an MP3 disc using either MP3 CD or Data CD (my car stereo handles both just fine) the final disc has some songs skipped and cuts out around track number 40. And, just to make life interesting, the players I drop the discs into will sometimes insist on skipping tracks. (i.e. will refuse to play or recognize songs 24, 26, 28, 30, 33, 35, 37, etc...)
If I copy the MP3 files to a pure data CD using any program except iTunes, it burns and plays fine.
I can't even begin to come up with possible causes for this glitch. Any ideas?

sadly  Apple does not allow you to gift using iTunes Store credit
that's just the way it works I have tried myself and I know it doesn't let you
