Why won't iTunes just PLAY an album, in order, from start to finish?!

Very confused....I can't get an album to play through iTunes on my Mac anymore. It used to work just fine but now, no matter what I try, every time I try to play an album iTunes just picks one song at random from the album and plays that. It  won't move on to the next one, even if I try to press the button to skip to the next track. It always seems to play the same track and won't let me do anything!
It's really annoying and I can't see what is different from before I downloaded the latest version of iTunes. Getting thoroughly disheartend with iTunes lately; wish I had never bothered downloading the latest version-it's horrible!
Can anyone out there help with a straight forward and not-too-technical explanation to help me to be able to play an album, from start to finish , in the order it was made without having to mess about?  I am not used to the whole "Apple" way of working yet- previously had a PC with Windows Media Player which worked really easily. iTunes is infuriating me so far!
Thanks!

Open iTunes and go to View>Show Sidebar and View>Show Status Bar.  This will make the new version appear more like earlier versions.  Then go to the Controls menu at the top, choose Shuffle and click "Turn Off Shuffle" (if it shows this).

  • How do I get Itunes to play an album in order if some of the songs are duets? For example, if I'm playing an album by "John Doe" and track

How do I get stupid Itunes to play an album in order if some of the songs are duets? For example, if I'm playing an album by "John Doe" and track #3 is a duet w/ "Jane Doe", it treats it as a separate album! What can I do

    Hi
    All my tracks are MP3.
In List View, I do not have an Album column I have an Album by Artist column.  If I click on this column the albums look right in the playlist on the screen but when I burn to the CD the tracks are not in one folder per album instead they seem to be in folders per Artist then Album, which as one of the albums is a compilation has created about 30 folders.
If I switch on the 'Sort by Album' column it burns the disc as I expected.

  • Why won't iTunes 11 play well with my printer.

I made the mistake of downloading 11 before reading feedback.  I will not do that before 11.0.1.  Has anybody tried this update?  Have they brought the old search feature back...unless there is some way to set it back to the way it previously worked and I just haven't figured it out yet.
In addition to the loss of ease in manipulating and searching for my music, I'm having problems with iTunes communicating with my printer.
Is this unique or typical for the update?  It always played well with my printer before!
Since the 11 update, my laptop crashes while waiting to print or it prints with all items of the playlist printed on top of each other in a big sploch, rendering it unreadable.
    Any solutions???.

  • Why won't iTunes 11 play movies earlier version did??

Sometime in the last 12 months or so an iTunes update broke playback of alot of my m4v/mpeg4 movies.
Earlier versions of iTunes played them fine played. (iTunes 11.3.1.2 does not)
QuickTime Player v7.7.5 plays the movies fine.
VLC v2.1.5 plays the movies fine.
Just iTunes will not play the movie, any longer, on my Windows 7 PC.
This also presents a problem for playing the movies via Apple TV - these movies used to be watchable on my lounge TV... no longer; I suspect iTunes isn't opening the movie to pass it to the appleTV (because I first became aware of this issue when I couldn't have a movie night on appleTV shortly after an iTunes update).
This seems to be a fault in iTunes initial opening of movie files - as I say QuickTime Player happily/easily plays the movies when they are manually opened with it.
Please fix, so the Apple ecosystem I've sold the family on is functional!!!!

  • Why won't itunes movies play in itunes?

I am running windows 7 ultimate, with updated drivers for video card, sound card, etc.  Some itunes downloaded content will play (It's a wonderful life) in quicktime, but not in itunes.  Pacific Rim will not play in either, and yet some music videos open in itunes, but not music movies. Yesterday I opened Pacific Rim in quicktime, and that made it possible to open in itunes, but today nothing opens in itunes at all.  All are protected mpeg-4 files bought and downloaded through itunes.  I'm so frustrated....

Could you walk us through what happens when you try to play the movies, please?

  • Why won't itunes recognize/play from my library on time capsule

I have a macbook air running mountain lion 10.8.2
    1 TB Time Capsule
    Itunes 11.0.1
    Iphoto 10.8.2
Its been my goal for a long time to get all of my music and all of my photos onto the time capsule and be able to pull them up via itunes and iphoto directly from the hard drive.
) the new itunes version updated and erased all of my playlists and most of my music/movies/apps etc.         such a nightmare
) so since everything was defunct anyway, I move my itunes file over to the time capsule. Changed the reference folder in iTunes preferences
Keep iTunes Media folder organized is checked
Copy files to itunes media folder when adding to library is checked
Then I went to File>Library>organize library
    Then restarted itunes
) Itunes doesn’t pull up all of my movies and media still
) If I click on a song from the itunes folder on the time capsule – it plays and adds to the itunes screen.  if I drag the whole folder onto the itunes screen, it seems to be busy copying etc. but in the end nothing changes.
) If I click on an .m4v file, it doesn’t open with itunes and doesn’t give that as an option. If you search for itunes app to open it, you have to search through folders to find it.   Even after you get it to open in itunes, I don’t think the movie is stay

You can use the Time Capsule for storage but not as a media Server
The Time Capsule / Airport with external drive can act as media STORAGE, but neither will run as a media SERVER. You will need at least one Mac running iTunes, with sharing turned on, and/or a media extender program like Null River's Media Link which will create a standard uPnP front-end that a PS3, Xbox or similar can poll.
A Mac Mini is often used as a media server... but might not be as cost-effective as other solutions...

  • Why won't my songs play in numerical tracks order?

I have an album with about 30 songs on it, and some of those songs came from different sources. I changed all of the items on "Get Info" so that they would match, (album title, artist, album artist, composer, track number, disc number, compilation, etc) and although all of the information is correct, some of the songs are out of order. The album starts out with Track 1, but then it skips to Track 3. The rest of the album proceeds in numerical order for the most part, but Track 2, 15, 16, and 20 are all listed at the end of the album. If everything in Info checks out, why are some of the songs out of order?

You will need to make sure that all the other relevant fields are completed and that those fields are accurate.
total number of tracks on the album (as well as the track number):
Artist name and album title are exactly the same - i.e. no extra spaces at the end of the name.
If it is a Various Artists album, make sure that Part of a compilation is ticked and that the Album Artist has Various Artists in it, (See the above example).
If none of the above sorts out the issue, check the Sorting tab and make sure the fields are correct.

  • Why won't iTunes allow my iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 to play 176.4/24 AIFF files created in December of 2014 and January of 2015, but will allow my iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 to play 176.4/24 AIFF files created before December of 2014?

When I buy and download high resolution music files (FLAC and DSD), I convert them to AIFF files and add them to my iTunes music library.  Specifically, I have been converting DSD64 files to 176.4/24 AIFF files.  These AIFF files (modified in some respects by iTunes) have been synched to my old iPhone 5 and new iPhone 6.  Until December, every 176.4/24 AIFF file played as expected.  In December, I purchased two DSD64 albums, which I converted to 176.4/24 AIFF files using AudirvanaPlus 1.5.  These 176.4/24 AIFF files will not play on either iPhone.  When I converted those DSD64 albums to 88.2/24 AIFF files, they played on both iPhones.  In December, I also purchased several 192/24 FLAC albums and converted them to 192/24 AIFF files using Amarra HiFi.  These 192/24 AIFF files play properly on both iPhones.
Why won't iTunes allow my iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 to play 176.4/24 AIFF files created in December of 2014 and January of 2015, but will allow my iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 to play 176.4/24 AIFF files created before December of 2014?

I have a similar problem and have spent three sequential days at the Apple Genius Bar before we were able to exclude most other possibilities and found that certain files (in my case all mp3s from CDs I own) that play just fine in iTunes 11.0.1 and that used to play in iOS 6.0.1 do not play in iOS 6.1. We restored the phone to factory settings and synced only a few of the music files that were problematic. They still did not play. We reproduced the problem on my iPad mini (iOS6.1).
Apple Telephone Support suggestion was to convert all mp3 files in iTunes to AAC (which according to Apple Website may degrade sound quality). No further suggestions or escalation but a recommendation to place comments on www.apple.com/feedback and, if there are enough complaints, someone at Apple might take an interest in this problem. Something has changed in iOS 6.1 where files that played on prior mobile system software no longer work.
Apple, please pay attention to this glitch with iOS 6.1.

Why won't Itunes play my music on my windows laptop?

I was on the same boat, bud! I saw you had the exact same problem as I did and decided to come back to help you out.  On another apple discussion page, a user--Charlicharli-- posted a link to download and everything seems to be fine now.  Apparently we had to check with Lenovo.  We were looking in all the wrong places for the fix!

  • ITunes just plays one song at a time now

It seems like prior to this last update, my iTunes would play each song within a playlist (one song after another, etc).
But now, after it plays one song, it just stops. These are the exact same playlists that it used to play all the way through (one song after another, according the order of the songs within the playlist).
Does anyone know why iTunes stops playing after one song (within a playlist)? Then, I select the next song manually, and it plays it, but of course it stops playing once again when it gets to the end of that song too. Basically it just stops playing after each song. Why won't it just keep playing (each song) like it used to?

Are there check marks beside all the songs in the playlist? Unchecked songs have to be clicked on individually to play them, checked songs will play one after the other. If you hold down the CRTL key and click beside any song in your list then all the check boxes can be toggled on or off: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

  • Why won't iTunes accept Jim French Productions as an artist?

I am interested in purchasing single episodes of radio dramas from Jim French Productions through iTunes. I noticed that iTunes (via Audible) sells Jim French Productions collections in the Audiobook store, but audiobooks are not available for redownloading on any idevice. You can only download them once and must sync all your devices to one computer.
So, the perfect solution for both Jim French Productions AND iTunes is to accept them as artists and allow them to sell their episodes in singles or full albums of multiple tracks. I have contacted them and they said iTunes and Apple continue to reject their submissions. And that is just preventing me from giving you both money. And I would probably buy them all if I could buy them as music tracks where I could download them to any device without syncing.
So, why won't iTunes accept Jim French Productions as an artist? And what else can be done to get them accepted?
    Curtis
(I'm not affiliated with them in any way. I'm just tired of buying audiobooks on iTunes that I can't easily access and buying episodes through JFP website where I have to add to my iTunes and then sync devices. I just want to buy single episodes of a show that I enjoy listening to very much.)

I know I'm talking to iTunes users here, which I hope would include some iTunes employees since I don't know how to reach them. Apple's website makes it near impossible to actually talk one-on-one with anyone who matters. Makes sense. It just leads to threads like this.
Jim French does have audiobooks on iTunes and they are through Audible. I mentioned that. The only problem is that if you buy those on iTunes, you can't redownload them on other devices like you can with music. I know this. I've purchased many audiobooks and I HATE that system. And I dislike Audible's DRM. I want to buy audio content (whether it's music or books) and be able to access it on any device without having to sync devices, but ALSO have it backed up so I can listen 20 years from now without paying $20 for it again then.
So, I'm reaching out here in case some iTunes employee might be able to shed some light on why a company that iTunes has allowed to sell audiobooks (through Audible) on the iTunes Store won't allow them to sell individual tracks in the music section. There are tons of other albums of Old Time Radio shows in album form in the music section. So why not them?!
Thanks for meaning well and trying to help.
