Why won't Lightroom 2.3 suddenly not import RAW files?

Why can't I import RAW files into Lightroom 2.3? I've imported them for years, until today, after I installed a Canon  Pixma MX860 multi-purpose printer. Would this affect Lightroom? Now I get a Lightroom message: "The files could not be written." Tried to import from Canon 5D on a CF card and from a Panasonic Lumix on an SD card many times. Same result. I can pull the RAW files individually off the cards into Photoshop CS3 RAW window and adjust them, but can't on Lightroom. It won't automatically import the files and won't take them manually. Am using a PC with XP Professional. Any thoughts?

Are you sure it's the same problem as that user had?
What error message are you getting when you try to import a raw file?
What camera?
What version of LR?
What computer and operating system?
Did your ability to import raw files just suddenly stop, or have you never been able to import them?

  • Lightroom 4 does not import RAW files from D610

I've just purchased Nikon D610, and my Lightroom 4 is not importing RAW files anymore. What is the problem?

The current version of LR 5 is 5.7 so I’d guess LR 6 will be out at some point later this year, in the next few months.  If money’s no object then upgrade to LR 5, now and to LR 6 in a few months.  If you’ll be very upset to learn you’ve paid $80 to upgrade and then need to pay another upgrade fee for LR 6 then maybe wait and do the DNG thing for a few months, and then upgrade from LR4 to LR6.
The other concern is whether your OS is new enough.  I’d suggest you download the latest LR 5.7.1 update and run that in trial mode for a few weeks—you have 30 days, to make sure your computer can handle it, before spending the money and finding out you need a new computer, first.
The other thing to consider is the $10/month Photography Plan subscription which gets you the most up-to-date versions of Lightroom and Photoshop as long as you keep paying.  Since you have your old LR4 serial number, you can decide to cancel the subscription after a year and use the LR4 serial number to buy the LR 6 upgrade, then.  This assumes that LR 6 will be available as a serial-number-licensed product, still.
The latest LR 5.7.1 update is here:

The lens profiles added to each version are listed here:

  • Lightroom 4.  dose not handle RAW files from canon 5D MK 111.

I have purchased lightroom 4. It dose not handle RAW files from canon 5D MK 111.
I have downloaded and ran the suggested file from Adobe, but still no luck.
    Anyone have the answer?

The initial release of Lightroom 4 doesn't handle the 5d mk 3 files because of when the camera was released.  You can either wait for the 4.1 release, or you can download the 4.1 Release Candidate 2 at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom4-1/.
Technically you can also download Adobe's DNG converter, but that just adds another program to the situation.

  • How do I not import RAW files into iPhoto

I shoot RAW + Jpeg with my cameras... Up until a recent upgrade to Mavericks... I would put the SD card in the iMac and it would import all the JPEGs, and then say something like 75 files could not be downloaded.
Those were the large RAW files and I would then just move them to an External Hard-drive and use Lightroom and Canon's DPP to edit them.
After the OS upgrade the RAW and JPEGs now both import into iPhoto and onto the Mac Hard-drive.
I can't seem to find a way to not import the RAW file into iPhoto. Is there something I am missing?   I do not want those large RAW files wasting space on the mac, and I have notice iPhoto is really slow since the upgrade.
    Thanks for any help

    A. To move an iPhoto Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    B. iPhoto and Raw
    1. The Raw processing engine in iPhoto the same one used in Aperture, but with less fine control. (Think of the differences between Word and TextEdit, iMovie and Final Cut).
    2. Processing Raw in a 3rd Party Application
You can also process your Raw with a 3rd Party app like ACR or Photoshop. But iPhoto does not handle this gracefully and it's a bit of a kludge.
First off set your preferred app as an external editor in iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
Next: In the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor:
Now when you go to edit the Raw it will be sent to your external editor.
    Now for the kludge:
You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.
Further - and this is quite a consideration: Lightroom is not an editor. Like iPhoto it's a database app and images need to be imported, processed and exported from it. It occupies the same place in the workflow (manager/non-destructive processing) as iPhoto does so in makes zero sense to use both...

  • Aperture 3.0 not importing RAW files from Canon T1i

I have recently upgraded to Aperture 3.0. I shoot with Canon T1i in RAW+JPG file size. When importing files from Canon T1i for the first time to Aperture 3.0, I found that all files imported as jpg not RAW. How do I get the RAW files? Help!!!
    Anjali

It does support Canon T1i RAW mode. In the "Import Settings", there's a section for "RAW+JPEG Pairs". If you don't see this, click the "Import Settings" pulldown menu and select it.
In the "RAW+JPEG Pairs" section, there's a pulldown menu to allow you to select "Both (RAW as Master)"
It'll use the JPEG as the "Preview" image, but it will use the RAW as the master for all adjustments you want to perform.
Prior to the import, you should see both the JPEG and RAW (.CR2) files. AFTER the import, you should only see the RAW in your project (it has the JPEG... but it wont normally display it because it knows the RAW is the master.) After the import, select any photo in your project, then click the "metadata" tab on the left. At the top it should give you the camera, lens, exposure info, etc. and you should see the "RAW" icon.

  • PE11 will not import raw-file (.CR2) from Sony SX50.

PE11 with camera raw 7.2 will not import .CR2 from Sony SX50.
    (Camera not supported...)
Sony sx50 is on the list of supported cameras and .CR2 on the list of supported files!

    Hi,
ACR 7.3 should aplly to PSE 11 - it is on mine.
If you load the editor, go to the Help menu and see what it displays for About Plug-in -> Camera RAW - see which version is loaded.
There should be an updates option too, towards the bottom of the list - I'm on a PC so it may be different if you are on a MAC

  • Cataloging Archive Drives And Can Not Import RAW files from Kodak DCS Pro

Tried with bridge and photoshop and they will not open  DCR file
How can I convert this file to a DNG...do I need to go old school and download a older version of camera RAW or go to an old MAC te a os that supports Kodak's DCS host software

There is a separate DNG converter tool from Adobe, whichnyouncan download as freeware.
No idea though if this does support your special raw format.
This is often used to help people with LR3 but newer cameras, which are supported in LR4.x only.
Going for an older camera raw version will not solve anything, since older formats are always readable by newer versions (provided the file is uncorrupted).

  • Sony A100 Will Not Import Raw Files on MacBook Pro

I have Just got a Sony A100 and when I plug it into my Mac Book Pro 17 running 10.4.8 it will import the JPG images in OK but not the RAW images.
But if I plug the same Camera into my Dual G5 running 10.4.8 or the Intel Mac Mini also running 10.4.8 both the JPG's and the RAW files are imported OK.
On the bases that this is not a hardware fault the only software differance I can see from the MB Pro 17 and the other computers is that the MB Pro shippend with 10.4.8 and the other two Mac's where upgraded to 10.4.8 from 10.4.7.
So the Question is how can I update the camera import functions on the MB Pro to import the RAW format file like the other two nice Mac's?

Sony RX2 is supported in ACR7.2 and higher whereas PSE10 can go as high as ACR6.3
Thus you wont be able to open your raw files directly into ACR. You might want to download DNG convertor(version 7.2 or higher) and use it to convert your raw files to a different raw format (.dng) which is supported by all ACR versions.

  • Why won't my iphone 5 suddenly not tilt images horizontally like it used to?

Cannot imagine why it will not show the display (in photos, or email, or safari, etc.) in horizontal plane when I rotate phone. It always did before.

    Hello Kirameister,
This may be due to having Orientation Lock enabled. This can be enabled or disabled from Control Center by swiping up from the bottom of your iPhone's screen.

  • Why won't my iPad 1 suddenly not rotate the screen when I turn it?

My iPad 1 won't rotate the screen when I turn it. What is wrong?

    Hi nugget,
Do you have the Lock Screen switch in the wrong position? It's the switch on the right side just above the volume switch. Try moving it to the opposite position to see what displays on the screen. If the rotate arrow displays, then you are good to go....

  • Why won't premiere CS6 play audio for imported AVCHD files on my window 7 laptop?

After I've imported the AVCHD file the video plays just fine, but the audio isn't there at all. I still have the original video files on my SD card, I've tried Wondershare to convert the file, but the video became corrupted. Any tips?
    Thanks!

Not necessarily, go to Help > Updates. We're on Premiere Pro CS6 (6.0.3) in Windows now.

Uninstall Spotify and see if that helps. I've heard about some crazy things related to that app. Better to run all these apps on a cheap secondary computer or iPad.

  • Lightroom hangs when attempting to import RAW files from D750

    Hi guys,
I purchased lightroom 5 sometime back to install on multiple platforms. Recently did an update on my macbook and it was able to read the NEF files from D750.
However when I installed lightroom 5 on my iMac, the prog keeps hanging when I attempt to import files from the D750. Other NEF files from my D700 were ok.
    Anyone knows why?

    Could be a hardware issue
Make sure the cable connection to the D750 is properly connected. Also, if possible try using a card reader. Or vice versa.

  • Just installed LR5- not importing RAW files from a card

I just installed LR5 on a MAC.  I have pics to import from cards, one card loaded no problem, the next card brought up the images and when I go to import them I recieve a message saying "Some Import Operations Were not Performed."  giving me the following 2 errors (1) and (563)last night it was (1) and (504) and (505).  Seems like it is reading the images as it pulls them up, just not moving them.  I have reviewed everything from Permissions to loading the cards with no problem in LR4-  what can I try?

This could be a problem with the card reader, cable or the card itself. Can you try a different hardware connection and see if that works?
Of course, it could be other things as well.

  • Not importing RAW files

used aperture 2 for a good while. Using the update to ap3 now. Seems like lots of great new updates, really liking the program so far.
I went for my first shoot this morning. I used RAW+JPG on the camera. during import, I checked all to be imported.
Only the jpegs seem to be imported. I've been tinkering with this and the only way I can seem to get RAW files to be imported is to uncheck every jgp image, hundreds of them. Then the RAW will show in Aperture as imported.
Any ideas how to import both the .cr2 and jpg?

I'm just posting here (and perhaps a few other threads) for anyone on a frustrating search.
    Trying to import matched RAWs?
Flag the jpegs you want to match, then filter by 'Flagged' (control + /)
In the import dialogue, the "Destination" chooser isn't the place to choose the destination folder! You have to choose the project on the library sidebar on the left. (shortcut = i)
The timezones have to match! I manually dragged a RAW into the project, and noticed on the info tab that the timezones were different (I either corrected them, or finder had stamped a new one during backup).
Lastly, changing the timezone isn't in "Adjust date and time...", it is under "batch change..."
