Why won't Mac Mail receive messages from Yahoo?
I use Mac Mail as an IMAP on both my MBA (OS X 10.6.2) and MBP (OS X 10.6.8). My MBA also syncs with my Dad's MobileMe account. About 4 weeks ago my MBA spontaneously stopped receiving mail from my Yahoo account (and sending...sometimes). It thinks a lot and sometimes even shows me it's about to start downloading emails but it doesn't follow through and they never show up in the inbox. The sound for no mail goes off when it finally finishes thinking. Now my MBP stopped receiving mail today as well - same symptoms. (My Dad's MobileMe is the only email account still working.) I can see the new emails on the server and my BlackBerry so my guess is that it's a Mac Mail problem. What gives? How do I fix?
Pressed "Rebuild" and nothing happened.

Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

Why won't Apple Mail utilize addresses from Apple Contacts ?
Some of the people in my contacts have multiple e-mail addresses. Using contacts from within Apple Mail I can see these e-mail addresses. I then select the e-mail address I need to use and it is highlighted in blue. However, when I drag that e-mail address into the e-mail it uses the first e-mail address on the list and does NOT use the one that is highlighted.
This worked perfectly with good old Snow Leopard. Why doesn't it work now? What is the procedure for selecting an e-mail address that is not the first one in contacts ?To see if there's a recovery volume installed reboot with the Option key held down and see what volumes are shown that you can book from. If there is a recovery volume it will be displayed. The arrow keys can be used to moved to the desired volume and the Enter or Return key to start the boot.
Yes I did that. I don't no why, but I have no recovery volume.
However, I do have mavericks on a USB flash drive. I booted from the flash drive and followed your procedure. This did not fix my Mail problem.
I notice now that after I drag an e-mail address into the header there is a small down arrow next to the incorrect e-mail address, this allows me to choose from a small group including the correct e-mail. I'm just wondering, perhaps this Is the way Apple Mail works in Mavericks. -
Mail can not receive messages from yahoo account

last year I bought my first Appler computer and it was a good decision . I use the mail application and addes 2 email accounts. One yahoo email account and one t-online email account. It works very well until september ... Since september I can't receive new messages from my yahoo account.
I tried different things I read in this forum. For example to delete the file com.apple.mail.list in library/preferences and start the mail application. I create a new account for yahoo. Mail read the only 49 messages from the total 84 messages. If I look at the account information within the mail application it shows all 84 messages from the yahoo account.
I also use opera as an other internet browser and the embedded email client. Opera receive my emails from the yahoo acount.
There are any other suggestions to solve my problem ?I'm having the same problem too. I think it's an issue on Yahoo's end because whenever I can't retrieve message on the POP server, I also can't login to Yahoo on Adium Messenger. Yahoo has a history of this happening, but never for days on end. I think the solution is to set your Yahoo mail to forward to Gmail and be done with it.

Why have my mac mail sent messages disappeared on one computer but not the other?
My mac mail account on my Air is not showing my sent messages other than the one I just sent. To find the variables, I checked my mac mail on my iMac and my sent messages are there.
Not sure what the problem is but I look forward to some help.
Thanks.I note that I just found all previous sent messages in the separate sent messages folder on my sidebar (minus the message that appears in my regular Sent Mailbox). I just moved these to the Sent mailbox and will wait to see if they appear there (in the sent mailbox) once it has processed this action.

Why won't Mac Mail let you copy and paste a email address?
I have mail 5.2 and was just wondering why doesn't it let you paste using the track pad to paste e-mail address into the field for To and Cc for, when i click on the track pad like you would normally do it doesn't come up with anything? It lets you paste only into the subject line and nothing else, using cmd v however works. Is this like it for everyone's mail? Or does mine have a problem? Thank you.

Why won't the Mail app message list font change?
I am on Lion at home and at work. Using the new 3 pane layout in the Mail app. On both machines, when I go to preferences>fonts & colors> I can change all the fonts BUT the message list. No matter what I do it doesn't change. Is this a bug or just a factor of the new layout?

Yep, mailbox behaviour is sent to "store sent messages on the server". This is happening, though, other primary IMAP accounts. And yes, it's been since Mountain Lion. Sometimes the messages show under the account, other times they don't. There is no sense to the randomness of it. Is there a way to "reset" all of my mail accounts without losing all of my stored mail? -
Why is my @mac e-mail blocking messages from one source?
I noticed over the summer that I was no longer receiving e-mails from my church. I am very involved, so I need to be able to communicate with various staff members-- but multiple attempts to correct this problem have failed:
1) we have verified that they have my correct address;
2) I have added all the relevant addresses to my Contacts and designated them VIPs (whatever that means);
3) I have checked my settings and I do not have any filters that should be blocking these messages;
4) the messages are NOT in my Junk or Trash folders!
PLEASE let me know what I can do to fix this problem!

I logged on to the icloud website and checked my inbox, and the messages are not showing up there, either. Though the addresses that are being blocked are in my contacts and autopopulate when I compose a message, I have not received messages from these addresses in months (though I have confirmed they were sent to the correct address). -
Mail Wont receive messages from Admin on Exchange
I use Mail with an Exchange server and it works fairly well except it wont receive messages from the "System Administrator", like when I send a bounced email. I would have no idea I was getting these messages except I keep Entourage just for this reason.
Anybody have any idea why these emails don't show up? I checked in junk mail and trash to see if they are getting moved for some reason but there is no sign of them anywhere.
Thanks for any help,First step, assuming you have all of your email account written down, go to Settings > Mail and delete your account. Then from Settings > Mail reenter the account information...paying attention to have the incoming set for POP or IMAP according to the email service you get. Enter all of the incoming and outgoing server information...id's, passwords.
Try the first account and see if all is working after doing that, then go to other accounts if you have any. -
I have the newest version of the iPad (3rd generation) with wifi. The messaging won't send out but I'm receiving messages from others when I'm using it. They also come through on my iphone at the same time. But I can't send them out on the iPad. I tried someone's suggestion of changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and that did not work to fix it. What is wrong with this thing? Thank you in advance for your help.
Are you trying to send a message to a cell number or an email address? iPad does MMS, not SMS, meaning it can't send a message to a number. It can send a message to an email address........

Mac Mail deleted inbox messages from yahoo mail, how to get them back?
I recently started using the Mac Mail client with my yahoo-plus email account.
What Mac Mail did was delete ALL inbox messages from my yahoo account, after one week from importing them to Mac Mail.
The inbox messages can still be found in the Mac Mail inbox, but not in yahoo's inbox.
I was wondering if there is a way to retrieve these deleted messages back to my yahoo inbox.
Also, I was wondering about the sync feature on the Mac Mail and what will actually happen if I use it. Does it apply to mail messages, or to address book and calendar entries?

Mail/Preferences/Account/Advanced - This setting is adjustable for each mail account.

Not Really, you could forward them to your account, after you've told your mail program not to delete the emails at all, but they will show up as being from you instead of the original sender. The originals at Yahoo have been dumped and probably purged. It would take an IT manager at Yahoo to manually replace the emails, not much chance of that.
I've already asked yahoo to "restore" my inbox to a day ago. That should help me with retrieving some of the messages back, I hope.

The sync feature refers to IMAP email accounts like .Mac or .Me or an Imap gmail account. I didn't think Yahoo offered IMAP email accounts.
Apple's MobileMe membership will let you sync your Mail, AddressBook, Calender, personal website with iWeb, etc.

Why does my Mac Mail programme keep turning on the SSL option?
For a couple of years now my wife's Mac Mail programme has from time to time stopped getting most of the emails sent to it for a week or more. I've wasted many hours on the phone to our service provider without ever getting to the bottom of the problem. Now I believe I know what's been happening. It seems that her Mail preferences keep turning on the SSL option without any human involvement. Apparently emails sent to an SSL selected email address will only make it into her in-box if they come from an SSL selected mail programme. Yesterday, scratching my head as to why, once again, few emails were getting through, I once again looked at the preferences and noticed that the SSL option, which I had recently unchecked, was once again checked. I unchecked it. It immediately re-checked itself. I unchecked it. It immediately re-checked itself. And so on, for ten minutes when, suddenly, it remained unchecked.
Why is this happening? My wife never, and I mean never fiddles with settings on her computer and nobody else uses it. The checking of the SSL option is being done entirely at the behest of the machine itself. Can anybody tell me how this could be happening? And could anybody tell me how I can stop it from happening again?Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary, and if everything is working as expected after step 1.
