Why won't Mac Pro boot up?

I can not to get my 2007 Mac Pro to boot up.  It won't even chime.  I waited 15 minutes.  All I have is a grey screen and the little revolving icon.  I am not sure of the model number, but it is intel w/ quad processor.  It has a 1 gig mirrored hard drive and 10 mb of memory.  I have disconnected all the peripherals with the exception of the monitor and it still won't boot up.  I am on system 10.7.x?     I recently added scanning software but it's booted up a couple of time since this was added.  What can I do?

USE RECOVERY MODE
Clone your system when it works but you might want to wait on that or do a clean install on another hard drive for now.
Numbers.... mirror array must be 1TB, and RAM would be.... say 10GB

  • Why does my Mac Pro boot to a white screen?

    Hey everyone,
So recently I have started having this issue with my Mac Pro system. When I power it on, I get the chime, but no loading screen. Just an all-white screen. If I power it down with the power button and turn it back on a few times, it will eventually boot normally, but I should not have to do this. Obviously this is not normal operation. So, I was wondering how I could fix this? Below are the specs for my machine:
System Type Mac Pro (Version: MacPro5,1)
Processor Type: Quad-Core Intel Xeon 3.2GHZ
    Memory: 10GB
Boot Drive: 128GB OCZ Petrol SSD
OS Version: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3
Any ideas what would cause this and how I can correct it?

Forgot to mention my troubleshooting steps thus far.
Originally the issue started with freezing. System would freeze after about 5 minutes of use. First I verified permissions and disk. Some errors were found, so repaired as needed. Did so using my OS disc. Rebooted and issue still existed, though not as bad. Did another Permissions and Disk check, this time from within the booted OS. More issues found, so repaired. Rebooted and seemed to be fine. Updated software to latest version and created a backup image of my system just in case. Rebooted and seemed OK. That was on Wednesday.
Thursday night I try to boot up and get a white screen. Odd. Powered down and powered back on. Worked fine. Did what I had to do on it and shut it down like normal. Came back later and same issue. Powered down and powered back on. Same issue. Repeated and worked this time. Checked permissions and disk again. No issues found. Just tried reseting the NVRAM/PRAM. Seems to be working OK, but not too sure yet. Will test for a day or so and let you guys know. In the meantime, any suggestions would be helpful. System is covered by Apple Care, so if I absolutely have to take it in, I can.
    Thanks in advance all!

  • Why won't Mac Pro 1,1 won't recognize new memory?

Hi out there. I needed a bit more memory so I got 2G of Kingston. I had ordered it from MacMall and had given my serial # and they picked it, so I am assuming it is the right memory. I have installed it in slot 3. From what I have read in the manual that is correct. I have heard conflicting things about having to install in pairs. I have 512 in slots 1 and 2 for a total of 1G before the new memory. I have taken it out and put it back in a few times, reset PRAM, etc, to no avail. So, my question is.... does it really need to be installed in pairs???? Could it just be faulty memory? I have searched the forum, and this seems to be a common problem with later models of MacPros, but I haven't seen anything about older ones like mine.
    Thanks!

OK, thanks. I thought so. I wasn't sure though and when I talked to the woman at MacMall she said no. I have done a lot of biz with them and have never steered me wrong before, so I am not dissing them, but it sure would have been nice to know to begin with so I could have bought two 1Gs instead of having to buy another 2Gs. Oh well, now it will hopefully be back to being superfast.
Thanks for your quick response, I appreciate it!

  • First generation Mac pro booted into utilities and HD recovery, any idea why?

    Hi,
My first generation Mac pro booted into utilities and HD recovery when I restared after installing Autodesk sketchbook pro. This isnt the first time this has happened but last time I was not trying to install any software. Fortunatly, I have time machine backups and therefore have managed to recover the HD to a recent date and I intend to do a complete system check when it has finished. The first time this happened I didnt think much of it but now it has happened a second time i'm becoming a little concerned, any idea why this has happened?

I did this the first time it happened so I know that its not that i have the wrong startup disk selected. However, after the recovery had completed I tried the installation again and this time everything went smootly. so as of right now I dont have a problem. Thank you very much for your time and help.

  • Mac pro boot camp partition cloned to MBP?

i have a 200 GB mac pro boot camp partition with windows 7 on it and between setting it up and getting all my software customized it has been like doing time in a soviet gulag.
if i create a 200 GB partition on my MBP can i clone this from one machine to another?
it would save me a heck of a lot of time and aggravation
    TIA
p.s not sure if this makes a difference but my mac pro is a first generation deal that required amy burning a image to disk or something along those lines...

Do you know what I do to get 10.5?
Purchase it if the computer doesn't include it.
Also, I don't understand why the drivers are going to be on older software that doesn't have Boot Camp bundled with it.
The drivers are not on a Mac OS X 10.4 CD or DVD. They are on the Mac OS X 10.5 DVD.
Leopard has Boot Camp bundled with it doesn't it? Isn't part of the deal upgrading and improving the drivers?
    Yes.
You say in the above "or use up a Windows installation"
This only applies if the Windows disk or license agreement allows you to create a limited number of installations.
Are you saying here that I could also reformat the drive with XP on it?
You could, but there is little reason to do so.
Do I have to reconfigure my workspaces if I do the second option above?
If you erase the Windows partition, yes.

  • Why does my Mac Pro try to start up from a blank drive?

I fitted a 2nd drive to my 2006 Mac Pro in anticipation of dual booting Windows (not done yet). The dive is FAT formatted but is empty. Why does the Mac Pro try to boot up from that drive every time I start it up, despite having set the startup disc as OS X in the System Prefs?! Getting sick of seeing the flashing folder with the question mark evry time I start it up.

I might be inclined to think the problem is really on your startup drive. You might try reinstalling Snow Leopard.
    Also, try:
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • Mac Pro boot sound on Cinema display

    Hey guys,
Is it possible to run the Mac pro boot sound on my cinema display instead of the Mac pro's build in speakers?
My macbook sounds more agressive than that Mac badboy .
    thanks!
    -Sam

I think this has been a problem since the beige G3 and an early speaker-equipped Mac display.
The startup chime is produced long, long before the display is configured to accept the data and make it into speaker noises. It is near impossible to make the startup chime come out the display speakers.

  • Can a Mac Pro boot off a MacBook Pro in Target Disk Mode?

Summary: "Are you able to boot a Mac Pro off of a Mac Book Pro in Target Disk Mode?" OR "Will a Mac Pro boot off an OS X install that was made on a MBP?"
    Details:
I'm finishing a music project that was created on a PPC G5 Quad computer and going to a studio in Santa Monica to complete the final mixdown. My 3rd party software plug-in configuration is unique, and the studio doesn't have all of the software instruments that I do on their 8 core mac pro. My G5 software installation is mirrored to my MacBook Pro, but the MBP doesn't have enough CPU power to play the project back.
Is it feasible to have the studio's 8 core Mac Pro boot from my MacBook Pros hard drive? Essentially, we'd be using my OS and software on their powerful CPU / hardware. I figure, since they are both Intel builds of OSX, this should be do-able.
I don't have access to the Mac Pro until I show up to start working.
Thanks for any input / suggestions!

The MacBook Pro boots fine in 10.5.8, and loads the Logic project without any faults. The only issue is that a CPU shortage occurs when you attempt to play the sequence.
Like you suggested, I performed separate UB installations of all the needed software on the MBP solely so I could move Logic projects from one computer to the next without a hitch. (Actually, DropBox does this for me). Migration assistant was not employed in this process due to the PPC / Intel issues you noted.
I didn't need to mention the G5 as it appears to have caused some confusion based on Kappy's reply, but I did want to explain my work flow thoroughly.
It sounds like booting the MacPro from my MBP is feasible. I'll mark this topic 'solved' and head over to the studio tonight. I'll post here any anomalies from the session (if any).
    THANKS~!

  • Why is my Mac pro slow to Open folders in a Windows SMB share?

Why is my Mac pro slow to Open folders in a Windows SMB share?   We use a Windows Server for graphics storage and I can open the share just fine, but when I attempt to open folders within that share it takes sometimes as long at 15 minutes to display the contents of the folders.  This happend before and I switched to the other NIC port, but now it is doing it in both.  I can open other connections to Windows SMB shares with no problem.

Because Apple did not put one in there.
Will Apple eventually stop producing CD/DVD drives?
We can't really answer that, but it would not surprise me. More and more of the computers being produced by Apple lack an internal optical drive. If you really need one, get an external such as LowLuster suggests.
    Best of luck.

  • Why won't premiere pro cc will not let me add an adjustment layer

why won't premiere pro cc will not let me add an adjustment layer

Glad that you got the adjustment layer issue worked out. Not quite enough info to troubleshoot the other problems. The following page outlines the kind of info that helps zero in on the cause of such problems: FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?
As to the cache files and rendered previews, you do not need to keep them. Premiere will regenerate them as needed. Because re-conforming the audio and re-rendering the sequence takes time, you probably want to keep those files around for the current project--unless, of course, you have reason to think that the cache or render files are causing problems.
To keep things clean and get the attention of more people, it would probably be best to start a new thread for the other issues.
