Why won't Mail under Exchange send large attachments?

I upgraded my new iMac to Snow Leopard in large part because of its support for connecting to Exchange 2007 servers, which I use for my work. But I can't send attachments of any size.
Setting it up in Mail seemed to go fine - I connect using a software VPN and am able to read emails - and also send emails via the Exchange server, but only if they're small - under 1MB, really. Anything bigger and they just won't send - the wheel by 'Sent' just spins and spins. My work IT helpdesk weren't much help - they just said this was a 'known issue' with Snow Leopard that they couldn't address. It doesn't appear to have been fixed by 10.6.2.
What's going on here? It's clearly not a problem with email size limits on my work mail server, as I can use the webmail interface perfectly well, and also send emails from Outlook on my work PC, via the Exchange server. My other POP accounts set up in Mail also work fine.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Sam

Maybe your ISP has put a limit on the number of addresses per email in an effort to reduce spam. Or maybe you have an invalid address in the list and your email client aborts sending the email.

  • Why won't Mail save stationery? with OS X Lion

    I have checked
    Why won't Mail save stationery?
but it applies for Lepoard so what about Lion?
Any Help? I did remove all the signature yet, still cannot save it.

    I've solved it!
When you have saved the stationery, and opened a new email, make sure you have NO SIGNATURE.
If you have 'None' in the signature drop down list, then the template will display fine.
If you have a signature automatically added to emails, it interferes with the template being displayed and all you get is the signature.
So start with a blank email and no signature, before you select your custom-saved stationery.

why won't my imac email send unless I restart the whole computer?

Two things, first see if it shows up in "Apple > About This Mac > More Info.. > Disc Burning" . If you still see it there the system still recognizes it but it isn't responding. Next do a
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
Hopefully this will reset the power to the drive.

  • Sending large attachments  - MS Exchange

I am having problems sending large attachments. The email forever sits in the outbox and the sent folder just spins. The attachment size is 7.1M. Mail activity says "adding messages"
    This worked fine with Entourage.
    any thoughts.

Hello RyanT1 & welcome to the forums...
    The attachment size is 7.1M.
Reduce that size in increments and see if you can find an allowable threshold that works.

  • Javax.mail behaving strangely with large attachments

My application seems to have trouble sending large attachments on some POP3 and IMAP servers that appear to accept the same attachments from Outlook or Outlook express. Also some Exchange servers work and others do not. The error is "message is too big and cannot be appended". Is there anyone who might be able to point me to some docs that might help figure this out?

How big of a file you can send over an email, is not determined by Apple, but rather by your email service provider.  For example, if you have a Gmail email address, they let you send up to 25 MB of data
    http://support.google.com/mail/answer/8770?hl=en.
To find out how big of a file your email service provider will let you send, do a google search for "your email provider maximum file size".
If you need to send larger files, look into something like "Drop Box" -

  • Trouble sending large attachments

    Hi,
I recently completed my migration to Mobile Me. Since that time, I am having a very hard to impossible time in sending any large attachments over 4 to 5 MB. I never had an issue with this before.
Now when I send a large attachment, it transfers very slowly and eventually gives up and gives me the window asking about using an alternate server. This never happened before.
Is anyone else having difficulty. And is there a solution?
    Thank you, Dave

I don't know, but this is a better place to ask about using your Mobile Me e-mail account:

It seems that there are several threads there already about sending large attachments.

  • Change Mail for Exchange sender name

    Hi,
How can I change the sender's name for outgoing emails in Mail for Exchange application?
I am using Nokia 5800 Xpress Music.
    Thank you!

    Well,
Nokia MfE doesn't reply to my mails. I guess that only poeple using MfE v 2.09.158 who are not registered to the MfE Service (I guess you have to pay a monthly fee as it is with the Blackberry service) have the sender name problem. Of course you can use MfE with other mail providers than Nokia MfE. But in this case "Mail for Exchange" will appear as sender name.
I now switched over to MfE's competitor "RS" and don't have this annoying problem anymore. The alternative to RS would be using the old MfE version where I didn't have that sender name prob. But as my battery was empty after 15 hrs using the old MfE version (with RS my battery lasts 3 days !!!) there is no real alternative to RS!
This sender name problem seems to be part of Nokia's business strategy. As they want to compete with Blackberry they want you to register (and pay the MfE mail service monthly). Probably that's the reason why you get MfE for free (RS costs 50 US$).
     Any comments on my theory?!
    BR, Johnny

  • Why won't mail open when click on icon?

why won't my mail open when I click on icon but other users can open theirs?

    Howdy lpedvm23,
If Safari is not opening any window when you click the icon, I would use these troubleshooting steps from the following article:
If Safari can’t open a window - Safari Help
If you can’t open Safari or a new Safari window, try these suggestions.
Use the latest version of Safari and OS X. To check for a Safari update, choose Apple menu > App Store, then click Updates. For more information, see Keep your Mac up to date.
Check your startup disk using Disk Utility.
If the other suggestions don’t help, try reinstalling OS X.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Why won't Mail.app rules won't migrate, System Tiger to System Leopard?

    Hi,
Mail.app rules won't migrate from System Tiger to System Leopard.
    Here's what I did:
-- Clean install of System Leopard 10.5.6 onto a new Mac Pro.
-- Used Migration Assistment to move files from System Tiger to System Leopard 10.5.6.
-- Mail.app's rules failed to migrate.
So, I manually finder-copied MessageRules.plist into the proper folder to replace the newly created and empty rules set in System Leopard's mail.app, and afterwards, the rules then showed up in mail's preferences.
However, the "manually migrated" [finder copied] rules won't run.
In order to narrow the scope of the problem, I moved the former System Tiger's mail.app rules to the desktop and allowed mail.app to re-create a new rules plist file, then I created a test rule and it worked.
    Questions:
Why won't System Tiger's mail.app rules files migrate to System Leopard, and won't work upon manual migration?
What is the remedy to "properly import" the rules to the new [System Leopard based] mail.app, or to make the manually moved rules plist file work?
For what it's worth I did follow the procedures at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread....9306&tstart=90
in order to make the messages migrate, but that failed to affect the rules.
    Thanks much,
    Jack

  • Can't send large attachments

I recently upgraded to Mac OS 10.5.1 (Leopard) and a couple of weeks ago to Entourage (Office for Mac 2008).
I can connect, surf the web, and receive emails with large attachments as usual.
I've been very happy with Entourage for years. But now using Entourage (or even Mail, or Thunderbird), I can't send emails with attached files over 200k or so. My connection times out and I get either of the following error messages:
"The connection was terminated by the remote site. Please try again."
    OR
"Operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic."
My ISP checks everything out as okay on their end. I uninstalled my Firewall and AntiVirus programs. I changed the smtp port to 587 - check "SMTP requires authenication..." - deleted and created a new account to manually and carefully input my settings. Tried all the tips from the Entourage Help Page, MacFixIt, Mac Owners Support Group, MacTopia, Microsoft Office Support, etc. etc. I'm at my wits end!
I'm a graphic designer who regularly sends small and large pdf (500k - 2 MB) files to clients. At this point I'm sending clients large files via Gmail - which is slow sending and slow getting to clients compared to what I'm used to with my previous Entourage. This is getting in the way of my work.
I'd really appreciate any help anyone can give me.
    Thanks,
    pjfiona

I have a similar problem in that I have recently switched Internet service providers here in the U.K. from Demon to TalkTalk. Since doing so I can't send mail from the TalkTalk account but I can receive mail into it.
The annoying thing is that everything worked fine on my wife's Windows PC when I set her new account up.
TalkTalk have suggested that I need to change the MTU on my Mac from 1500 (which they say is the Mac's default setting) to 1432. On searching Mac Help it explains how to do this in Tiger using an Ethernet connection but for Leopard using Airport it states to go into Mail Help and follow the instructions - not very helpful because there aren't any.
Does anyone know how I can adjust the MTU to 1432? TalkTalk did mention something about using a SUDO Command but didn't know the actual command to use and suggested that I contact Apple support.
Thought I would try you knowledgeable people first in the hope that someone can help.
    Thanks, Mike

  • TS3276 I have recently had a problem with one of my hotmail accounts, some sort of virus sending random emails to people in my address book. Hotmail advised me to change my password for that account, which I did. Why won't mail recognise the new password?

I have recently had a problem with one of my hotmail accounts, some sort of virus sending random emails from my address book. Hotmail advised me to delete all contacts and change the password for that account, which I did on my laptop running windows XP. The change was successful and I was able to send and receive emails with no problem. I then had to change the account password on my iPhone 4s, which I did and it too was successful but when I came to change the password on my iMac, running the latest version of Lion it would not recognise the new password. I have tried to remove the account details and re-install but every time I go to add new account my old details are in the box. This is very frustrating as I use my iMac for all my profects and I need to access my email. Please help.

    hi guys,
I had already deleted all reference to the hotmail account in question from the keychain access app, I have also tried to delete and re-instal the account details from within mail. The icon in the side bar dissapears but when I go to Add Account, the old account details are in the new account box. I then input my new password but am told that the server does not recognise it. If I access hotmail via google on the iMac I can get into my account with no problems. I am thinking there must be some other form of security system within the mac software that is blocking the new password. This is driving me nuts. I have been trying to resolve this for the last two days. Thank you for your advise anyway.

  • Trouble with Mail sending large attachments using iCloud

I am on an iMac running Lion 10.7.2 using Mail 5.1
My wife and I both have iCloud accounts.
I have been trying to send an email with three pdf files. The total size of all three files is 48.4 mb.
Other emails go out without any problem, but this one email will not go out.
I keep getting the following message:
Cannot send message using the server ...
I then try my wife's iCloud account and it does the same thing.
Can anyone help me figure this out? Is there a phone number or text support to actually talk to someone at apple?
    Thanks,
    Keith

The total size of all three files is 48.4 mb.
That's why. That maximum size of incoming and outgoing messages is 20MB:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4863
Email really isn't designed for transferring large files and all email providers have attachment size limits to avoid people clogging up their mail servers.
Use one of the many (free) large file transfer services instead.

  • Why won't Mail save stationery?

I just did a clean install of 10.6, and Mail won't save custom stationery I try to create. It does create the Custom category and shows what I saved there, but the text I entered is missing - only my signature shows up. The message has several of Mail's bulleted lists, but that shouldn't cause a problem. There are no graphics at all in my stationery.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Any help would be appreciated.
