Why won't my Airport Utility/Time Capsule Work any longer?

Time Capsule has not completed a back-up in over a year. Prior back-ups appear to be incomplete. Once started, Time Capsule gets hung up during attempt to connect and eventually fails. All efforts to reset, unplug, have failed to help. It is connected to an iMac and otherwise functions perfectly as Wi-FI for my iPAd and iPhone. Any thoughts/direction will be most appreciated.

What model TC? Exact number from the base.. A1xxx, and how old?
Do a full factory reset.
Is connected to imac mean ethernet? Please do the setup in complete isolation from the network.. so nothing plugged into the TC except imac and turn off wireless in the imac.
Do the setup again, with minimal setup.. I think I would just erase the drive and start over as the old backups will take longer to sort through than starting over.
Once you get a clean fresh new full backup from TM.. then see how you go putting it back in the network.
If it still fails, even isolated then it is faulty.. more than 3years old TC is not reliable.

Why won't the Airport Utility recognize my Airport Express Base Station

I have an Airport Express Base Station I had recieved from a friend of mine. It is a 802.11n Wi-Fi Station, and I'm running OSX 10.7.4. When I open airport utility 6.0 it can't find my devie and the same with Airport Utility 5.6. I've tried resetting the station and plugging it directly into the computer via ethernet cable but nothing has happened. Someone help?!

Nevermind, I figured this one out. Just perform a hard reset. Unplug the base station, push and hold the reset button then plug the station back in while still holding the button in. Continue holding till the the LED flashes yellow really fast. Release and wait till the Airport Express starts up.

HT5022 Why doesn't this Airport Utility 5.6 work with Mountain Lion 10.8?

Tried to install 5.6 and at the select a destinationfor the Air Port Utility 5.6 software was advised that the version of MacOS X (10.8 Mountain Lion) is not supported. Is there a solution to this problem or has a software update rendered my old Airport Express redundant??

Does anyone know if Airport Utility 5.6 running in OS X 10.8.4 can adjust the wireless transmit power level on the new Airport Extreme 802.11ac?
It cannot.
It might appear as if the change was made in 5.6.......but once you close 5.6 and open 6.3.1.....then open 5.6 again, you will see that the Transmit Power has reverted back to 100%.
Same thing for Radio Mode. It might appear as if you can change the Radio Mode in 5.6.....but it won't "stick". The setting will revert back to Automatic.
I think the bottom line here is that if you don't see the setting that you want to change in 6.3.1.....then trying to change it in 5.6 will not work. So, you might as well use 6.3.1 with the new Time Capsule and new AirPort Extreme.
I don't think 5.6 will hurt anything....it just won't do any good.

Neither Apple (nor any other company) will support a product forever. The iPad one is, by technology standards, obsolete. It has nothing to do with corporate greed - unless you define greed as making a profit.
Your iPad still works, apparently. If you wish additional functionality, buy a new one - it is your money and decision.

Why won't Numbers 3.2.2 sort data any longer?

I have a table that will not sort. I have entered projections for the coming year according to category and need to sort them by date. The sort feature is grayed out. My spreadsheet is getting long (my projections for the coming year take me to row 595) but it is only ten columns wide. I cannot sort even a smaller portion of this table, although other tables in my file seem to sort OK--though not all. None of my dates in the portion that I want to sort are formulas. Any help will be appreciated. Not sure what my options are here.

I'm a dork, is all. Not sure that there is any technical help available for my internal software. I am still having trouble getting used to the changes in 3.2.2 and 3.2.1 from the earlier version I was using. I hadn't specified the column for the sort command. Sorry to have bothered you guys!

GS70 - Battery Calibration utility does not work (any longer)

Hi folks
Just got myself a brand new GS70 Stealth notebook. I got the pre-installed battery calibration utility to run OK once, but a few days laters it just quickly flashes 2 windows one after the other and is gone / crashed.
Of course it might be something I did (upgraded BIOS, drivers, installed some apps), but I still need to find out what, otherwise it might happen again even after I reset to factory settings.
I scanned all 33 threads of this forum found with the search "battery calibration", and found only one which describes something similar:

However the symptoms are not the same (I have Windows 8 and my other utilities KLM & SCM are working fine), and that thread is too old anyway. So a couple of questions to the community:
1) does anybody experience the same failed start issue, with GS70 or other?
2) can anybody advise on how to debug the battery calibration utility to try and find out where it crashed? (found no logfile)
(note: I also tried to upgrade .NET to 4.5.1 as it seems to be used, no change)
I will eventually contact MSI about this, but I thought that I would ask around first. Thanks for any help...

Okay, just found the answer by myself: The battery calibration utility depends on a service "Micro Star SCM" (MSIService.exe), which I had disabled.
Setting the service start mode to "manual" was enough to solve the problem, the utility starts again.
Hope this can help someone else.

What model is your TC? What is the firmware?
I recommend you do a factory reset and use short names.. not apple recommended names.
Short.. 2-20 characters .. less than 10 even better.
No spaces.
Pure alphanumeric.
Set fixed channels for 2.4ghz wireless.. test with 11, 6, 1 at least.
That often helps.. if not and is old, ie Gen1-4 go back to 7.6.1 firmware which is far more solid.

Airport utility does not find any airport and time capsule hardware

Hi, I have 4 airport expresses (2 for music and one for extending network) and a time capsule that also acts as my wifi router. The expresses have always appeared and disappeared from the express utility, while the TC is always listed. Now airport utility cannot find find any of them, and after many rescans, and a few "successful" hard reboots (in the sense that they were configured, but then disappeared again), still does not see them. The strange thing is that the TC has to be working because this computer is hooked up to the internet via the wifi router, and it is working fine. Any ideas? The expresses are not that big of a deal, as I can always plug an ipod to play music, but they used to work. I am on 5.4.2 on the utility, having rolled it back a few months ago when some of these problems begain. thanks

It sounds like you are trying to scan for and configure your Apple devices using wireless. If you haven't tried this yet, I think you will have much better luck if you connect an ethernet cable directly from your computer to the device that you are trying to "see".
If this does not work at first, it may help to power down both your computer and the device, then connect the ethernet cable and power the computer and device back up.

Temporarily connecting your AirPort Express to one of the Time Capsule's Etherent LAN <-> ports...as LaPastenagure suggests....is always a good way to setup and configure other network devices.
If you want to configure the Express using wireless, remember that the Express broadcasts a default wireless signal with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx. You must log on to this network first....no password is required....then open AirPort Utility to "see" the AirPort Express.

How to change file ownership/permission on Airport Extreme Time Capsule

I have a 3TB Airport Extreme Time Capsule that currently have a folder with a number of files. The problem is it won't let me delete some of these files because I don't have permission. On a mac it would be trivial to either take ownership or change my permissions. Any ideas on how I can do this on the TC?

Your first post seemed to say that some specific files couldn't be deleted. If you know any of their names, see if one is locked. if not, that isn't the problem. If it is, unlock it and try to delete. If it still won't delete, that's not the problem, either (or at least not all of it).
How can I just make all file unlocked since I have no idea which of the tens of thousands of file are at fault?
I know in OSX its easy to change permissions on a folder and then propagate that change to all child foders and files. Does locking/unlocking work the same?
If you don't know of any specific files, try creating one, locking it, then seeing if you can delete it.
There doesn't seem to be any way to unlock all files in a folder.
Do you want to delete everything on the TC? If so, just erase it with Airport Utility -- only takes seconds.
EDIT: These files wouldn't be in Time Machine backups, would they? If so, you can only delete entire backups via the Finder, not individual files or folders. But the message OSX usually sends when you try that says so fairly clearly.

Can I connect my Airport Extreme Time Capsule via ethernet to another router (non-Apple)?

I've been trying to figure this out for a few hours and have gotten nowhere. I have an Archer C7 AC1750 router set up in my office, connected to my Zoom 5341 DOCSIS 3.0 Modem; this has been my main router and has worked fine. I have moved some things around and now have my PS3 and PS4 in my master bedroom but can no longer hook them up via ethernet to the Archer C7. I have run ethernet through the attic into the master bedroom and want to use my Airport Extreme Time Capsule as a way to hook up the consoles via ethernet. If I can use the Airport Extreme to extend my wireless network back to the bedrooms that is even better, although that is an afterthought.
I am not sure what the settings need to be to make this happen. I have searched and tried a number of things but have not found a working solution.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please start over with a default reset on the Time Capsule. This will not affect any of the stored data that you might have on the drive. You can use the same device name and password that you used before if you wish.
Power up the Time Capsule for a few minutes. Then hold in the reset button firmly for 10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Make sure that the Ethernet cable connection from the Archer router connects to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule
Open up AirPort Utility
Click on Other WiFi Devices
Click on Time Capsule xxxxxx
AirPort Utility will suggest a setup, which you want to ignore
Instead, click the Other Options button
Select the Create a new wireless network setting and click Next
In the Network Name box, enter the exact name of your Archer wireless network
In the Base Station name box, enter a name that you want to use for the Time Capsule device
Uncheck the box to use a single password
In the Network Password box, enter the password for the Archer wireless network
Verify on the next line
In the Base Staion box, enter a password that you want to use as a device password for the Time Capsule
Verify on the next line
Click Next and wait while the AirPort Utility creates a network
Ignore the step about unplugging the modem and click Next
Do not enable the Guest Network option and click Next
Wait while the network is being set up. When you see the message that the wireless network is available, click Done
The Time Capsule will now appear in AirPort Utility with a blinking amber light
Click on the Time Capsule icon, and then click on Edit in the next small box that appears
Click the Network tab at the top of the window
Change the setting for Router Mode from DHCP and NAT to "Off (Bridge Mode)"
Click Update at the lower right and click Continue
Wait a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart and you should have a green light
It would be an excellent idea to power off both the Time Capsule and Archer router now, wait a minute, then start the Archer router and let it run a minute. Then, start the Time Capsule up and give it a minute
You should be all set. The Ethernet ports on the Time Capsule are now operable and the wireless network has been extended using AES encryption.

Airport extreme time capsule. Wifi dropping

I have an airport base time capsule 3rd generation with 2 airport express as range extenders. Up until recently the network worked very well. Lately the wifi keeps dropping. One moment I'll be on wifi, the next ill be on 3G, then back again. My apple tv keeps dropping on and off as well. It's been my experience with other routers that they have a somewhat limited life. I'm wondering if it's time to upgrade to the 5th generation. Since the time capsule feature works fine, can I still use that as the backup while getting a new base? By the way, all software and firmware has been updated

It says you have the wrong password.
WPA handshake failed with STA 10:68:3f:46:d2:69 likely due to bad password from client
Reset the TC to factory and start again.
But do not be surprised if the v5 utility no longer works to do the setup.

Apple Airport or Time Capsule with Telstra Air

Is it possible to use an Apple airport or time capsule (connected to the gateway) with Telstra Air enabled? I believe you have to disable the wifi when connecting a gateway to an apple airport which would prevent you from using Telstra Air. Has anyone tried this? Would like to have Telstra Air but don't want to give up the time capsule.

If you have one of the modems listed on that page it might work as Brizbrenz mentions, but if your modem is not on that page it definitely won't work

How do I move my AirPort Extreme time capsule from my old house to my new house without losing the backups?

I have an AirPort Extreme Time Capsule wifi router and I just moved to a new house and I need to relocate the device without losing any of my old backups from my old mac as well as my new Mac! I could really use some advice on how to do it without any problems! I really appreciate it!

Physical location has no bearing on anything, since you're also moving your network and all other devices. Just plug everything in and it should work just as it did before.
