Why won't my Apple TV3 connect to my shared library?

Okay, I have an iMac, a iPhone 4S, an iPad3 and an Apple TV3.
Accessing my shared iTunes Library from my iPad and iPhone works fine.   However for the last month or so (presumably since a software update) my Apple TV just will not connect to my Shared iTunes Libraray.
It can't be a problem with my router/network as I can access my Shared Library on the iPad and iPhone?
Annoyingly I can stream music/videos from my iMac to my Apple TV through Airplay, but what ever I do, I can't make my Library appear on the Apple TV.  I've triple checked the Home sharing Apple ID and password are the same.
Any advice?

Re: Solution for Apple TV 2, Xfinity router, Ethernet connection and Home Sharing
You may need to configure some ports on your router for port forwarding. Before you do, you may want to try setting the Apple TV date and time to manual but have the time zone be the same as your computer that is running iTunes.
The link is to a more aggressive approach that will solve your connectivity problem. Your equipment may not be the same but the configuration changes is what you are looking for here.

Apple TV and my MacBook Pro are connected to the same network.  I have forwarded the appropriate ports on my router for the Apple TV to read my iTunes.  It can see my iTunes library, but won't connect to it.  Do anybody have any thoughts as to what's going on here?

AppleTV requires internet access to work properly.
This seems to extend beyond simply not allowing the internet based functions to work.
The problem you have I think is related to the DRM on the TV Shows - an internet connection is required for 'authorisation purposes', and I think this is for AppleTV2 to stream content not just for iTunes itself.
I took an AppleTV2, iPad, and a new Mac Mini on holiday a few months ago - I had no usable internet connection but set up a LAN using a mi-fi device.
I could play unprotected content on AppleTV 2 from the Mini having previously configured Home Sharing, but any DRM protected movies/TV Shows would not play as AppleTV 2 flagged 'authorisation issues'.
This really is stupid as iPods/iPhones/iPads do not need authorisation on the go and all AppleTV2 does is stream from an authorised library.
Add to that the fact that I just plugged the Mini in to the TVs HDMI port and could play the DRM protecetd content without any issues without an internet connection.
Trying to Airplay from ipad pre-configured for Home Sharing to AppleTV2 just brought up authorsiation issue errors again.  Airplay is over-rated.

Not sure of what? In your second response you said the issue was with airplay. You were also having issues connecting laptop to computer, which points to a laptop connectivity issue. I simply asked if home sharing was an issue as well, since that will confirm the laptop as the cause. Your response that home sharing is on doesn't really help since that doesn't itself have a bearing on airplay nor does it answer the question in regards to if home sharing is working on Apple TV
If you have a further question you will need to be specific.

  • Why won't my wifi stay connected with lion

I recently installed lion on my imac.  Why won't my wifi stay connected after I shut it down

This has been well discussed on another thread here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3191630?start=2055&tstart=0
(There appear to be no moderators on these forums to make sure that new threads with the same topic don't get linked to a parent !?)
Anyway... The issues appear for many to be related to a specific Airport card type & firmware version.
I've had constant disconnect problems with my Mini since upgrading to Lion.
    My Airport card specs are:
Card Type:                              AirPort Extreme  (0x168C, 0x86)
      Firmware Version:                    Atheros 5424: 2.1.14.9
Connecting to my Time Capsule distributing on:
              PHY Mode:          802.11a
The Atheros firmware version appears to be the issue depending on certain wifi network conditions.
After some playing about today I think I've managed to force my Mini to connect on a better frequency, without having to roll back the firmware to the Snow Leopard version or mess with the Mini Airport card settings (via Terminal) by changing some settings in my router (Time Capsule).
These are the changes I made:
Airport Utility > Wireless > Wireless Options
    Set Radio Mode to 802.11 a/n - b/g instead of 802.11 a/n - b/g/n (Automatic)
Set 2.4 GHz Channel to 13 instead of Automatic
Set 5GHz Channel to 48 instead of Automatic
    My Mini now connects on:
    PHY Mode:          802.11g
    Signal / Noise:          -64 dBm / -96 dBm
    Transmit Rate:          54
    instead of previously
    PHY Mode:          802.11a
    Signal / Noise: -73 dBm / -96 dBm
    Transmit Rate: 36
This appears now to be stable (no drops in the last 4 hours). It's a low transmit rate still, but better than before.
The iMac is still connecting on
    PHY Mode:          802.11n
    Signal / Noise:          -69 dBm / -88 dBm
    Transmit Rate:          216
and all is right with the world (hopefully for the long term)

Why won' t my apple password work to sign in iOS update

The passcode you need to enter is not your Apple password. It is the four digit passcode you enter when turning on your iPad or waking it from sleep after an AutoLock. If you forgot your passcode you'll have to restore the iPad in iTunes.

  • I have an iphone 4s and when I try to connect it to my shared libraries; I get an icon of a circle that only fills up halfway.  I have an ipad and it connects to the shared library without a problem.  My library is much larger than the capacity of either

I have an iphone 4s and when I try to connect to my shared library I see an icon of a circle that only becomes half full.  It does not connect.  I also have an ipad, which connects without incident. My itunes library is larger than the capacity of both devices, so that cannot be the issue.  How can I get the phone to connect with my shared library?

My husband and I are using the same iTunes account on all mac & pc computers, but the libraries are different on each machine.  We always manually manage our music (no auto sync).  iTunes is up to date on the PCs.  My husband uses our joint iTunes account on his pc, but once again, has a different collection in his library from those on the other machines.  He can't load any music from his PC to his iphone 4.  I can load music from my mac library to my iphone 4s, but cannot load from my pc library to my iphone 4s.  How can I switch my main library that it syncs with from the mac to the pc?
    Thanks

Homesharing won't drag and drop songs onto a shared library. Both computers are authorized and both have "homesharing" turned on. Any help?

Rather than dragging and dropping, try this.
In the computer you're moving music to, select the home shared library you're moving music from, as per the following screenshot:
Select the songs you want to transfer. Now click the "Import" button down in the the bottom-right-hand corner of the screen, as per the following screenshot:

  • Bugs in IOS7. My iPad3 doesn't connect to my shared library at home

I think this has to be a bug because with IOS7 my iPad doesn't connect to my shared library. It worked very well with IOS6.
I have also discovered that I have no keyboard when I look for a contact!. Is that also a bug?
    Thank you for your help

Try going to [Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings] Once that is done, connect to your wifi router.

  • Why won't my Apple TV recognize my Apple ID when connecting to Home Sharing?

I'm out of town using my Apple TV in my RV connected to WiFi at a campground and I'm trying to connect to Home Sharing because that seems to be the only available option to me when I turn on the Apple TV.
Whenever I try to connect my Apple ID info, it gets denied with the "Error" page saying that my Apple ID info is incorrect. However, I have re-entered and rechecked the info multiple times and even tried using a different family member's ID info.
What am I doing wrong here? I just want to watch Netflix via Apple TV!
