Why won't my computer wake up now that i downloaded yosemite?

after downloading yosemite twice i have to power off my computer to get it to start up>

Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article. That's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. Please read the whole article carefully (some of it is hidden by disclosure triangles) and don't skip any of the steps, including the ones under the heading "Additional troubleshooting." If you don't understand any of the steps, ask for guidance.
Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.5 or earlier, from the menu bar select
           ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Accessibility
If the checkbox at the bottom marked
          Enable access for assistive devices
is checked, uncheck it and test.
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select
           ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Security & Privacy ▹ Privacy ▹ Accessibility
If any applications are listed on the right and have a checked box next to them, uncheck all the boxes and test. You may first have to click the padlock icon in the lower left corner of the window and authenticate as an administrator to unlock the settings.
Step 3
In the Energy Saver pane of System Preferences, uncheck the box marked
Put hard disks to sleep when possible
Step 4
This and the next step must be taken as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
          View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You may see one or more reports with a name that begins with "Sleep Wake Failure" followed by a date. Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
Step 5
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ Diagnostic and Usage Messages
In the search box in the window's toolbar, enter "powerd" (without the quotes.)
You may see one or more lines like this:
com.apple.message.signature: Platform Failure
If you do see that, and you did everything in the preceeding steps, then you're dealing with an internal hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • Why won't my computer wake up?

About 4 days ago my computer started to fall asleep (as usual) but when I tried to wake it up, It wouldn't.
So I tried to Restart my Mac and I immediately held down the Command-Option-O-F key combo until I saw a somewhat intimidating command-line display that ends with the Open Fimware prompt. I typed the following lines:
    reset-nvram
    pressed Return on keyboard
    set-defaults
    pressed Return
    reset-all
    pressed Return
It didn't work, so I deleted the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file in the Finder/Hard drive/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
It didn't work, I erased my hard-drive and reinstalled Mac OS X
It didn't work, I did a Hardware Test and my computer say everything passed.
    NOW WHAT, IDEAS PLEASE.

Did you try resetting the SMU (whatever that stands for... I forget.)? I've got sleep issues with mine which seem to be solved by this.
    Here's my scenario:
Computer goes to sleep via the apple menu. When I go to wake it up, the cooling fan spins up to maximum, but that's as far as it goes. Force-shut-down and restart, and it does the same thing. Reset the SMU, it spins back up normally. My solution thusfar has been to not put the thing to sleep.
    Resetting the SMU proceedure:
    1) turn off the computer.
    2) unplug everything from the back, including the power cord.
    3) wait 10 - 15 seconds
    4) hold down the power button and plug the power cord back in.
    5) release the power button.
    6) press the power button to start the computer.
Don't know if this will help your issues or not, but it's worth a try. One thing I've discovered by reading the myriad solutions offered in these forums--they work on some machines, and not on others, with no rhyme or reason as to why. Yes, I'm glad I got the extended AppleCare warranty.

  • Why won't my computer recognize any disks that are inserted?

My computer says theres no disk inserted into the diskdrive, but there is. It's not just certain ones, it's all disks that give me this problem.

Hi PWolves04, the fix bobapcoed described probably won't help you because your computer still "sees" your CD drive--it just doesn't read the disks you insert. The fix makes your computer see your drive again when it has completely disappeared from "My Computer". Speaking from personal experience (I've had to replace three CD/DVD-Rom drives over the years) one of the first signs that they're dying is the inability to recognize and read disks.
If you want to try the "Fix" before you move onto other troubleshooting avenues, here is a link to one thread that discusses it:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1457169?
I recommend that you search the Importing and Burning Category for entries by "toonz" for more information if you really think this will help.

Likely either the batch of media is defective, or the drive itself is not working.
Swap for different media; for a different batch from a different vendor, and also try +R media.
The slot-loading drives on various Mac systems can and variously do fail.  If different media doesn't work, then you probably have a failed drive.
If your Mac is of same the vintage as OS X v10.4 that's listed in your footer and you're not in a position to replace or repair the optical drive in your Mac, then you might consider using an external USB CD/DVD device.  If you don't have another Mac around to perform the recording on, that is.

Why won't my computer pick up the wireless in my home? All other computers in my home can get the internet.

Turn Off your computer. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your computer. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

Why won't my computer's address book sync ALL of my contacts with my iPhone?  No MobileMe, no iCloud, just straight from computer to phone.  I have checked all the settings and all seems correct.  It simply won't pull in all of the contacts.  Last time, it added some new ones, but deleted others.
