  • Why won't my ipad connect to the wifi after I updated it to ios 7.1.2

Never have I ever been so upset at an electronic device
If I had know my iPad would cause such distress after this update I wouldn't have attempted it.
Because of this bloody update a plethora of problems have appeared and I have no clue how to fix it.
Firstly at around 4 this morning the wifi connection was spotty so I had to keep on reconnecting, but that was fixed by getting closer to the router. I thought "problem solved no biggie right?" WRONG! I left my house and came back expecting the wifi to connect again, but that was a fail.
SOOOOO I figured I needed to forget the network and log back in. That didnt work. I should not have done that. I should not have done that.
I got the *Unable to join the network. Dismiss* crap over and over and over again!
So now I figured I'd look up some help! Why not give it a go! So i got that whole (general-  reset- reset network) with or without turning on airplane mode bs. Didnt work. Trust me I tried both.Twice.
Since that didnt work I figured a reboot would. No. I turned my iPad off so many times I probably gave the poor thing whiplash
Now this has been going on all day and I finally gave in an hour ago and decided if I restore it to the ios 7.1.1 it'll work again.
Well it must be my freakin birthday cause guess what? You have to turn off your icloud's "find my ipad"to restore and to do that you need a........ wait for it................. internet connection!!!! Brilliant. Just. Brilliant. -_-
Do you FEEL my struggle yet????
all my problems...... they all lead to that dang wifi connection. Fml.
Any of you magical smarty pants have any help for this poor unfortunate soul.
    it would be much appreciated.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at
    http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Why won't my iPad connect at the hotel?

I am staying at a Comfort Inn in Gettysburg.  Why does my laptop and phone connect, but not my iPad?  This is VERY frustrating and an issue that not exist!

It happens because the router has allocated an inappropriate address to the device. Resetting the router makes it reallocate addresses to the connected devices.

  • Why won't my iPad connect to the wifi when my iPhone is right next to it, and my phone gets perfect wifi connection?

I am currently having a problem with my iPad 2. It won't connect to my home wifi as well as my iPhone 4s. I have them both sitting right next to me and my phone has perfect wifi connection while my ipad can't even find the wifi. I've been having this problem for a while now. I've resetted it numerous times, had it looked at at the Apple store, and much more to try to fix this problem. I don't know what to do. Thanks for your time.

  • HT201974 why are some devices connection to the new extreme and others cannot?

I just bought a new extreme after reading some great reviews. But I am experiencing something that makes no sense. I have iPads, iPhones, Roku, Directv and others all usinging WiFi and all but one of the ipads (may be defected as I am bringing it in to apple today) and the directv will connect to my network.
I even tested my already connected devices by "forgetting" the network and restablishing them and they work without fail.
I bought 3 new iPad Air's and 2 connected no problem. The Roku... no problem. Playstation too.
The Direct Tv wifi was connected to the old extreme and worked but now it says, "security code not accepted" yet Iit's the correct code. Also 1 of the 3 iPad air's will not connect either. I did a reboot in recovery mode and reinstalled the IOS and still nothing. I reset the network and still nothing.
    Can anyone help? Thanks!

You should manually set the the IP address and address mask in each device/system on your network.
WiFi hotspots will randomly change IP address on everything when you use DHCP inside your NAT network, which is the default.
All of your devices normally use DHCP on your AirPort network to lease an IP address which will expire, and the IP address can change each time a new lease is created. This happens automatically unless you do something to override this feature.
Network gaming systems and Internet phones often stores the addresses from inside your network at the remote end, which will be wrong after DHCP in your AirPort changes the IP address of all of your equipment at your end. You need to sign out/in from each service or re-install to establish a connection after the address changes. The DHCP lease duration default is 7 days.
You can prevent that problem by assigning fixed IP addresses to the equipment inside your network.
You use the AirPort utility to examine the DHCP address range, then select addresses just above the ones DHCP is using. DHCP in AirPort equipment usually uses 10.0.1.1 to 10.0.1.199.
The addresses you need will probably be 10.0.1.201, 10.0.1.202, 10.0.1.203, ... (use a different address for each different device). The address mask will probably be 255.255.255.0 (this is the same for everything).
    Best of luck.

    Hello Trixie29,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning network issues:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
Occasionally while using your iOS device, you may notice unexpected Wi-Fi behavior:
Difficulty locating or connecting to a network
Unexpected Wi-Fi signal strength or disconnects
    Inability to access the Internet
Not automatically connecting to Wi-Fi when expected
Follow these steps to troubleshoot the above issues:
Be sure you're in range of your Wi-Fi router (access point).
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your Wi-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
Thank you for contributing to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    BobbyD

The iphone will sync with one and only one computer at a time.  When you sync to another, it will erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.
Copy everything from the backup copy of your old computer to the new one.
