Why won't my iMovie application save my projects?

I have just started to use iMovie and was thinking it's too good to be true...easy to use etc. Then I shut down the application to have a break and come back to it later only to find my project I spent a couple of hours on was all gone.
Why is this happening?

BTW...I'm on OSX 10.6.8, iMovie 09 and I imported from a DV tape camcorder...is the tape DV files the problem maybe?? Should I upgrade to Lion or maybe try install iMovie HD to see if that works? Need someone's informed opinion on this as I have hrs of editing work to do and presently can't do it because MY PROJECTS WON'T SAVE!!!!!

I have a very faint memory of problem when adding two or more voice over to one project - but it can all be just a bad dream. (It's a function I never use - I use a miniDV Camera or other recorder to do my narrative - then import this as .aiff audio and use this in my movies as any other audio without any problems - so it's a totally different way to handle audio in all)

Why won't files open or save in email

I have been trying to open some important files that were emailed and they won't open. I am getting the blue and white pop up asking if I want to open or save and it won't let me do either. It did this the other day and somehow I finally got it open after shutting down the computer. Tried that this time and it won't work. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling adobe. It did not work. There is also an online website I use to complete and upload PDF file documents and it won't work either. What has happened? How do I fix?

Ah this is just because I haven't fully updated my bridge yet, but the solution still works fine

The video shows replacing a current DLL file with one from last year - the key issue being that the files found in the Bridge and Photoshop folders are DIFFERENT. Why would this be? I checked a PS CS5.1 installation myself and the files are already the same. Is there an illegitimate copy of Photoshop being used or something, causing these files to differ? -Noel

Why won't FCP 5.1 'SAVE' and close without re-asking?

Hello all
I'm just wondering why FCP 5.1 won't close without ALWAYS asking me to Save again?
It seems no matter how many times I 'SAVE PROJECT', and try to close it, it prompts me again.

Did I do a fresh OSX install? - yes
Did I do a fresh install of FCP 5.1? - yes
(right out of the NEW SEALED box FULL RETAIL VERSION)
Just wondering if it's misbehaving somehow?

I'm not sure I understand, are you saying that you cannot close a project at all because it just keeps going back to the save dialogue?
Or is it that you Save a project then seconds later close the project and it asks you if you want to save again before it actually does close?
The latter does seem to happen with FCP, never been sure why, but not unusual.
The former is, of course, a problem.
I was going to suggest that you you can turn off the "save on close prompt" in User Prefs, but I just check and didn't see that option, not sure what I was thinking about or perhaps I'm just tired and was looking in the wrong place.

Why won't my iMovie 12 respond on startup?

I updated my MacBook Pro to OS X Mavericks a few months ago and my iMovie 12 was working fine after the update. Until, I was recording sound effects for a project and my iMovie froze. I tried force quitting the application and reopening it to see if anything changes, but it still wouldn't open. I've serached the internet for solutions to fix this problem and I came across deleting all my iMovie plist files and repairing disk permissions on disk utility. I tried both of these and my iMovie still won't open.

Check your server files and make sure the movie actually uploaded; the controller could be there without the movie itself.
The html editing is basically the same, whether it's hosted on your iDisk or a remote server. In your case, navigate to the .js files for that particular page using any text editor (I like Taco, and it's free) and make the following changes to the script code that controls your movie: (you will find the movie code near the top of the page in the .js file)
Change autoplay="false" to autoplay="true"
Change loop="false" to loop="true"
Changing controller value="true" to controller value="false" will remove the controller from the page entirely. Make these changes in both sets of tags, (object and embed).
Make the changes and just "Save". (Now would be a good time to duplicate the modified .js file so you don't have to do this again the next time you make updates to that page.)
Now upload these changed files to your server, clear your browser cache and you should see the changes.

Why won't photoshop let me save my images that I edit?

I have photoshop CS6 and am on a Mac. The photos that I am trying to edit are ones that I have taken and uploaded but everytime I try to save them after editing, I get this message, "the file is locked, you do not have necessary access permissions, or another program is using the file." Why? There is no other program using the file, I am the only one who has permission. I drag the lock icon into the trash but that doesn't do anything. How do I fix this?

Photoshop is just reporting an error that the OS returned.
Yes, there is a problem with permissions, or another application is using the file (which can include the Finder, due to some bugs in the Finder).
You will have to troubleshoot the directory to make sure you have permission to save there, and double check that no other application is using the file.

Why won't my Apple applications work all of a sudden?

For some reason over the weekend, my Apple applications like Safari, Mail, Software Update and such won't work. When I open one, my cursor turns into that rainbow circle and just stays there. The application won't go any further.
However, my other applications I have seem to work fine, such as Adobe products, Macromedia products, and Internet Explorer.
Do I need to reinstall my system? If I buy Tiger and install that, would that solve my problem as well? If I do reinstall my system, what files do I need to back up to save old emails?

Did you recently install a new application or printer/scanner?
You might have a font conflict . . .
Many times, fonts will mess up all he Apple apps but not affect 3rd party apps.
If you haven't added anything containing additional fonts, let us know, and we can look into font book app for duplicates.

Why won't my imovie won't play on site?

I'm wondering what could cause my imovie (Quicktime) not to play on my site. I see the play bar but it won't play. Also, how do I get it to play automatically? I read the instructions but I have my site published on a private server and also when I went to the Go menu-idisk..etc.. and called up my site's file and js (?) it said there was an error and I couldn't open it to edit. Can I edit the html in text edit and then just save the folder again?

Why won't my combined file save as a pdf to my dropbox?

I just signed up, combined two pdf's and it will not save as a pdf when i save to my dropbox, it won't even open.

Why won't Photoshop CS6/CC save my preferences?

Each time I open Photoshop, I load an image and use my scroll wheel to zoom and I have to go back and re-do my preferences. No preferences are ever saved. Anyone have a solution?

Have you set your preferences, then gracefully Quit the application?
If in doing so, the preferences are lost next time you open it, that kind of implies Photoshop isn't able to write data to its own preference files, which in turn implies a permissions issue. I've often seen people advise "fixing permissions" or even creating a new user account on the system to deal with that.
I'm not sure why you mention using your scroll wheel to zoom, but know that the zoom level is not saved as a preference.

Why won't my imovie file open?

Please someone help me!! I am doing a school project and as I was about to upload my project file from imovie to my desktop, the whole thing shut down. My file is lost, and I can only find a corrupted version of the file, which is probably an earlier version, and it won't open. How do I get back my finished project?
I have tried deleting the preferences and opening the corrupted file in bbedit and so far, nothing has worked. My computer says it is opening the file, as the properties have changed and it shows a more recent time that this file has been opened.
If anyone could help, that would be much apprectaited!

Essentially the same thing. I double click on the Adobe Shortcut on my desktop, and it opens up for a minute, the blue circle spins and then it just closes. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, downgrading to adobe 9.4 and nothing seems to work.

Why won't my Macbook Pro save documents in Notebook Layout View?

Whenever I try to save a document in Print Layout View, it works fine. But when I try to save a document in Notebook Layout View, it says that it is saved but it actually doesn't save it and I lose all my work. Why is this happening and how can I stop it?

So it looks like my FireWire port on my 2007 macbook doesn't work :-/ I hooked both macs to my External, and the external wouldn't show up on the 2007 threw fireWire, but it did using USB....
Is this a normal thing? do Firewire ports just give out over time, or could it be a software thing.... should I upgrade the 2007 to Lion? Will Lion even run smooth on the 2007? I'm kinda bummed about the port not working, but I ended up putting the large files on the Ex-HDD then transfering them to the 2007 via USB... wasn't the fastest, but it worked.....

1 - what is the dot between -cp and HelloWorldApp ?The dot signifies the current directory.
I don't know why, now all of a sudden, it is having problems with CLASSPATH(s)I don't either, since there's no way for me to systematically examine your environment. However, I would guess that on cause may be that you moved the HelloWorldApp to a different directory that was not covered by a classpath.
Read those links I provided (they're not there for my pleasure). I hope you'll find them informative and useful.

Why won't my imovie run properly, I have to keep force quitting it?

I have version 9.0.4 and have had imovie for 2 years now on my new imac. When I first got it i tried making a movie by stringing together some of my video clips from iphoto, and even then the apple wheel would show up on the screen and nothing would happen so I would have to force quit. Even now when I open it eventually all my videos and pictures from iphoto will pop up on the bottom of the screen but it takes forever, and then when I go to click on one or anywhere on the screen for that matter the apple wheel comes up again! So sufficite it to say I HAVE NEVER ever been able to utilize my imovie. I have a wide number of pictures and videos (9,000 at least) in iphoto and am wondering if this is the reason for it being so slow because it is trying to load all of this data? (I have plentyyyy of storage left on my computer)
Yesterday I downloaded 9.0.4 update on apple website hoping that this would work, it asked me if I wanted to import my iphoto videos and I said yes and it took about 40 minutes, but I am still haveing the same problem....I wonder if I should have said "no" to this. Is there another UPDATE that I should downlaod to replace this version of imovie or is their something different i can do?
I'm running snow leopard version 10.6.8, 2.93 GHz, intel core i7

UPDATE: From reading some other post I believe that my large video files in iphoto are lagging my imovie so I guess I should have never imported the thumbnails, but the question is now how can I delete them from imovie? (so i can just import them manually when I work on a video) I go into the iphoto folder and see a folder labeled "thumbnails" and in that are 3 folders labeled 2011 2012 2013 and one more item (not a folder, but a piece of paper icon) but its labeled imovie data. I really dont want to delete anything but was wondering if this has anything to do with it.
