Why won't my iphoto won't turn on?

My iphoto won't turn on completely. The screen for iphoto comes on, but it stays a blank white with ball just spinning around and around. No pictures,
library, no albums, nothing! I have iphoto '09, version 8.1.2 . Has any one else had this problem?

Go to your Pictures Folder. Is there an iPhoto Library there?
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • IPhoto won't print., iPhoto won't print.

When i try to print  i get the message
"No available themes- There were no themes located. Untill at least one theme has been installed, this feature will be unavailable"
I haven't hearad that one in relation to printing before!!
I can export the image and print it from Preview, but that's not the point.
I recently updated to Lion 10.7.2 and iPhoto version'11  9.2 and reinstalled ithe update, but it wont have it.
    Whats happening here

If the "Themes" problem arises in OS 10.7.2 Lion, Apart from the fact that User library is an invisible file now, Old Toad's solution still holds good.
In my case, I had to trash the iPhoto application and the Themes folders and reinstall from my original iLife 11 disc which gave me iPhoto version 9.  The updates are available from Appple Support Dowloads and note that iPhoto has to be updated to version 9.1 before version 9.2.1 will work.
The  pictures library is unaffected by the reinstall
If you need to see the User library, a Widget called Hidden Files will make it visible.
Thanks for the heads up John Hammer1

Reboot your router. The icon only shows when connected to wifi and Apple TV or similar device. Same thing happened with my phone and the icon appeared in control center after router reboot.

    <Edited By Host>

    Lets see, could be:
    faulty charger
    faulty cable
    faulty connector
faulty battery or other iPhone hardware
Without any details at all, it is impossible for anyone to say.  You could take it in and let an Apple Genius take a look at it to narrow it down to iPhone hardware or battery.

  • Why won't my iphoto open - it is there in applications ?

my iphoto won't open... But the pictures are still there
I added a disc and somehow have zipped some files
How can I get this reset to a different day?
Can you do that with a MacBook?

Sorry but with that amount of information no one can help
We can not see you or your computer and can not read your mind so you have to actually tell us details
Start with the version of iPhoto and of the OS and details about what is happening
Why won't my iphoto open - it is there in applications ?
I believe you are saying that the iPhoto Application is in your Applications folder which is good
    my iphoto won't open
Ok - but exactly what does happen? telling us the problem without details does not give us anything to work with
My car won't start - Why?
But the pictures are still there
Does this mean tha the iphoto library is still there? or that you see the photos in iPhoto? Exactly what does it mean?
I added a disc and somehow have zipped some files
Is this revelant to the issue? If so then again details - what does "added a disk" mean and what disk did you "add"?  Wnd what exactly did you do to "somehow zip some files"? What files did yoo\u "somehow zip"? What did you do with the files you "somehow zipped"?
How can I get this reset to a different day?
I have no idea what you want to know here
Can you do that with a MacBook?
    What is "that"?

My iPhoto won't open, the 'dial' keeps turning & turning.  What do I do?

If the rebuild doesn't help try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Why won't my iphoto open or load the pictures?

I click on my iphoto, but it just loads for forever. I can't actually get the pictures to load.

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. More information means you get better assistance.

  • Why won't iPhoto won't open?

iPhoto won't open. The rainbow circle just goes round and the computer sounds like it's about to take off. Can only close with ctrl/option/start button.

Look in the Users/Library/Preferences file for a
    com.apple.iphoto.plist
file and delete it, reboot the computer and relaunch iPhoto.
Still having issues, it could be more serious.
Get a new external drive, use Disk Utility in the Utilities folder to Erase> format it HFS+ Journaled and click Erase.
Copy the contents of your use file folders (Music, Documents, Pictures etc) to the external drive.
    When finished, disconnect the drive.
Find your Snow Leopard 10.6.x grey disks that came with the computer, stick the first one in and reboot the computer holding the c key.
(iPhoto only comes free on the GREY DISKS, not the white 10.6 upgrade disks)
Second screen in, simply install OS X, when finished and your back in, run Software Update.
That should fix your issues with iPhoto and anything else in OS X  as it's simply reinstalled.
If your still having problems, the next step would be to right click on your iPhoto Library and "Show Package Contents" find your "Originals" folder of your pictures and copy those out to another folder in Pictures.
Delete the iPhoto Library, then open iPhoto and import those pictures again.
If everything is fine then your ok, if your still having problems, one or more of the pictures is likely corupted or something is wrong with your user.
You can copy the original pictures folder to the Shared Folder, then go into the System Preferences and create a new user, log into it and copy those shared photos's, import them into iPhoto and see if that works.
Somewhere along the line your going to find out what is causing your issue.
Download the free OnyX and run all it's maintainence and cleaning aspect and REBOOT at the end or you'll be unhappy.

When doing all this, make sure to have two copies of your data files at all times.

  • ILife '11 installed and now iPhoto won't open, "damaged or incomplete".

I was unable to use iDVD after having Mountain Lion installed.  I had an iLife '11 disk and I installed it.  I didn't see any changes in the application folder so I used the iLife '11 disk again, found the iDVD application and selectively installed it.  Now I have and iPhoto icon with a white circle crossed out and when I try to open iPhoto, I get the message,  "You can’t open the application “iPhoto.app” because it may be damaged or incomplete."
I don't know what version of iPhoto I have because there are just two dashes after the "version" when I Right Click and select "Get info" on the iPhoto.app line in Finder.
I have been reading support blogs for hours last night and this morning.  I am afraid to try any of the fixes because I have already caused problems for myself and my problem doesn't seem to exactly match anyone elses problem, but seems to be a mixture of more than one problem.
I have a backup harddisk that was set to the time machine before I had my computer repaired.  It only backs up to Dec 2, 2013.  I have not hooked it up again yet out of fear that it will start backing up and mixing old with new.  I had Lion before the repair (new video disk) and when I received the computer, Mountain Lion was installed.  This was last week.  I specifically asked that Mavericks not be installed because I was reading so much unhappiness with it.
So - any help extremely appreciated.  I am frozen.

You need to reinstall. There is no choice.
Note the instructions below for reinstalling from Disk:
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
I specifically asked that Mavericks not be installed because I was reading so much unhappiness with it.
There is much unhappiness with every version of every Os and App everr released - roll back to the release of Mountain Lion and you'll see exactly the same type of commentary. In the main, much of this commentary is useless.
The problems are manifold: for a start, happy people are less likely to review, unhappy people are much more inclined to. That's why we don't have thousands and thousands of posts on this forum from all the people who have no problems saying "look I have no problems". Unhappy people get cross and are more likely to express that anger in negative reviews.
Then what about the reviewer? What is his or her knowledge, experience and skill level? No doubt they are having problems, and real ones, but how do you know if their issues are problems with the app, their own inexperience, third party conflicts and so on. I've seen people on here claim the fact that iPhoto won't edit video is a bug. I've seen hundreds and hundreds of posts from folks on here who are certain they've found a bug, only for their glitch to be resolved. No review is worth anything unless you know something of the reviewer, his or her knowledge and experience.
So frankly, I never bother with those reviews on any such stores, not just iPhoto on the Mac App Store.

  • New harddrive, now iPhoto won't open

The harddrive in my PowerBook G4 had to be replaced (again) but this time I thought I was smart because i had been using Backup to backup my stuff to an external harddrive on a regular basis.
Now iPhoto won't open because it says:
"You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
I know that I had the latest version of iPhoto on the old harddrive but now have 4.0.3.
I have tried to update to 5 but it won't take that either:
"an eligible iPhoto application was not found in the location/Applications/iPhoto.app"
    even though it is there!
So, why didn't Backup backup my iPhoto 6 app?
What can I do to get my photos off of the external harddrive?
    Ugh!
    thanks,
    deneen
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

So, why didn't Backup backup my iPhoto 6 app?<<<</div>
Backup sw backs up DATA, i.e. those files that you created, such as photos, movies, word Docs, etc. It does not back up applications such as iPhoto etc. That should have been very obvious when you configured the Backup template.
What can I do to get my photos off of the external harddrive?<<<</div>
You need to load iPhoto-6 from your iLife-06 DVD (the same one that you used when you originally loaded iPhoto-6).

  • IPhoto won't go in dock

Have a friend that has a iMac the won't let iPhoto put a icon in the dock. Other things will go in it but not iPhoto. He is running Snow Leopard. Not sure about anything else. thanks .

    Dave,
Try doing  a SMC reset and if that doesn't help try starting in Safe Mode.
    SMC RESET

Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Downloaded torch - then uninstalled it, now iphoto won't open Error 10810

    Hi there,
I downloaded torch from the web to view a video. It did not work so I uninstalled torch again. Through that I lost Olympus DSS Player software, Firefox, and iphoto won't open. I get the error code 10810.
    Can anyone please help me?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Cannot install Mountain Lion - my iPhoto won't quit and Mountain Lion won't let me do a force quit

I'm trying to upgrade to Mountain Lion but when it ries to quit all programmes to install my iPhoto won't quit as albums are being sync'd.  I try to stop and quit but it won't.  I then try to force a quit and Mountain Lion won't let it.  help!

if you don't mind interrupting the album sync, you can do a hard shutdown of the mac by pressing and holding the power button down for 10 seconds to make sure it's all the way off.
you can then do SMC reset which is described in the following article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
after doing this turn on the mac, click on the black apple then force quit and make sure all apps are closed
open app store and try again to install the mountain lion
