Why won't my laptop turn on unless it is plugged in

My laptop will not turn on unless it is plugged in. When it is plugged in, the light indicator is green. If I have the computer on and unplug it, it just shuts off and goes black.

Go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you are running 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion), then select Power from the left hand column of the System Profiler. Copy and paste the Battery Information from the top of the page back here.

  • IPhone 4 won't turn on unless it's plugged in.

My iPhone won't turn on unless it's plugged into either my speaker dock or a portable charging phone case and even then, it gets stuck on a reset loop about five times before it fully turns on. When it does turn on, it tells me to activate the phone with iTunes. But then I can't unplug it or it'll just turn off.
I've tried plugging the phone into a wall charger and my laptop, but it gets stuck on the reset loop and doesn't even turn on.
I've tried to do a restore (both normally and on DFU mode) but it always comes up with Error 2000.
I've tried to use TinyUmbrella to fix it; doesn't work.
I've tried to replace the battery - same problem exists.
    Please help?

By replacing the battery (either yourself or a 3rd party) you have voided all rights to support from Apple and these forums.
    Good luck.
    Replace the device.

  • Why won't my imac email send unless I restart the whole computer?

why won't my imac email send unless I restart the whole computer?

Two things, first see if it shows up in "Apple > About This Mac > More Info.. > Disc Burning" . If you still see it there the system still recognizes it but it isn't responding. Next do a
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
Hopefully this will reset the power to the drive.

why won't my screen turn when the phone does?

Not all apps support screen rotation. The Home screens do not rotate. But also check to make sure you have not locked screen rotation. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to reveal the Control Center and check that rotation lock is not on.

Why won't my laptop recognize my iPod nano second generation when I plug it in via USB? It does recognize my ipad mini. I was hoping to transfer music from my iPod to my ipad mini

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
    4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. You can use some third party software like this iPod file transfer, it can help you copy files from iPod to computer, and then you can use iTunes to sync the music to your iPad mini.
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • My computer won't turn on unless it's plugged in

Ok, so i left my computer in sleep mode on my desk while I was gone today. When I came back, my computer was dead. I was confused because I didn't leave it on so there was no reason it should have died. Now, it will not turn on unless it is plugged in, and if I unplug it, it will turn off. It doesn't turn all the way, because it will bring back all my data when I plug it back in, but the screen turns grey and it takes a few seconds to do so. Also, just for more information, when my computer is in sleep mode, the white light on the front stops blinking when I unplug the computer.
Any help? I'm so confused and slightly frustrated.

I would have tried that first, but my computer isn't like other MacBook Pros I have seen, the bottom is one piece of aluminum, there is no way to just pop the battery out. Do I need to unscrew the screws and take the entire bottom off?

    Hello there, JP3199.
You've mentioned a few issues in your post so I will try to offer up some recommendations for troubleshooting each. In regards to the issue of not powering on unless plugged in the following Knowledge Base article offers some practical steps to try:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?
    Contact Apple Support.
In regard to being unable to turn on Wi-Fi, if you mean that the button is grayed out, then this article should prove useful:
iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1559
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Restart your iOS device.
Make sure that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Make sure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.
If you still can't turn Wi-Fi on, please contact Apple for support and service options. If you can turn Wi-Fi on but are experiencing other issues with Wi-Fi, see how to resolve those Wi-Fi issues.

  • Laptop turns off randomly when not plugged into charger

I have a 2013 Macbook Air and a few weeks ago, it started turning off randomly after a few minutes of use. It only works without turning off when it's plugged into the power.
I tried resetting the SMC various times, and the battery software update was not applicable to my device.
I'm not sure if it's a dead battery or not, because the device still charges.
I work for a magazine, and kinda need my laptop so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

  • Why won't my mac turn on?

My mac decided not to turn on.  The light is green but it won't turn on.  Could this be my battery?

Take it to an Apple store or AASP.

  • My macbook pro won't turn on unless it's plugged in

I downloaded the latest software (mountain lion) about 2 weeks ago and ever since my laptop has been a bit slow. today when i was at uni, it wouldn't turn on at all despite having battery (the green lights on the side were lighting up). when i got home i plugged in it and it was fine. the battery icon in the top right has a X through it and when you click it, it says no batteries available!! not sure what's caused this!!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The MacBook Pro doesn't detect the battery. First, to know if it's a software issue, reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 Do the same with the PRAM > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If it doesn't work, you should consider the option to take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller. I highly doubt that this problem is related to Mountain Lion
