Why won't my mac book air turn back on

My mac book ran out of battery wile it was turned off.
I have tried charging it over night to full battery and it still say it is starting up after 1-2 hour .
It will not go to home screen.
what should I do ?

Did you reset the SMC? If you did and that didn't work, you can try a PRAM reset:
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
If resetting the SMC and PRAM didn't do it, then follow the steps in this Apple note. You didn't say what operating system you're using (iOS is a mobile device operating system). When the steps in the Apple note get to running Disk Utility, if you are running OS X 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion, go into OS X recovery by booting and holding the command and r keys down. You can choose Disk Utility and do the repair disk from there.

Have exactly the same problem with my wife's MacBook Air. After restaring in Restore mode and trying to repair the disk (Disk Utility showed errors in the verification), the system tells me to backup as much data as possible (how?), re-format the disk and restore backed-up files. Error comes up when "updating boot support partitions for the volume as required".
Original restart action was done due to software update requesting it, if I remember correctly, iTunes was updated.
I don't want to start a painful back-up procedure (although I do regular back-ups): how should I know, where iPhoto stores it's data or where my mails are (yes, still using local mail)? How can I access the data if I can't boot?

Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.

I'm having a battery issue with my computer, and need to bring it to the nearby Apple Store to have the battery looked at and possibly changed. I wanted to back up my computer in preparation for my visit, but for whatever reason, my Mac Book Pro is not recognizing my trusty LaCie external hard drive, a device I have used with this computer for two years now and performed countless backups with. I am not sure why this is happening. I have already tried restarting the computer multiple times, and unplugging and replugging the hard drive, both to no avail. Are there any ways I can get my computer to recognize my hard drive in order to perform the backup? Thanks.

I cannot view my flash drive OR my office server, which I should be able to connect to via VPN. VPN was installed on my Macbook Pro at my office on Friday. It worked fine. Now I bring it home, and I connect using VPN, and it shows that I am connected, yet the server hard drive icon does not appear on my desktop (as it usually did) and I can't see how to access the server at work.
I also cannot view flash drives when I plug them in - they just don't show up.
I had Norton installed; I read online I should disable that. I did this, and no luck. I also have already done all the things suggested on this post and have all the boxes checked, and yet, still cannot use a flash drive or access my work server.
I am stuck? Do I have to bring my Macbook pro in for service? I have NOT upgraded to Mavericks.

Why won't my Mac Book Pro shut down?

My Mac Book pro isn't shuttting down. I've clicked the apple icon on the left > shutdown. But nothing happens it just shows this rainbow wheel for a few seconds. I can't also control my volume and screen brightness with my keys any more and system preferences is not responding.. Help! Please!

Alright.., I will try this and hope i´ll do it right. My (a little older ) MacBook Pro has the same problem, it just wont shut down. Things works kind of fine until I shall shut it down, cause then the wheel will spin and spin and spin (and it goes to sleep still spinning), so it must be some corrupted files or app that is stuck. I just bought MacOs10.6.3 to reinstall or recover the harddrive, but I´ve never done these things on a Mac before. I have formated in Windows alright, but I am worried about the drivers, I dont know how to back them up! ??? Where do I find them? I hope I dont have to wipe the disc out fully, that it helps with just some cleaning up. I will come back after my "operation".. please wish me good luck! I really dont want it to crash completely.. So I have never experienced this problem before. My flash drives always appeared on my desktop, then one afternoon, my usual flash drive was not showing up on my MacBook, so I assumed it was the flash drive and not my computer. Since that day, I haven't really used a flash drive for anything until today when I tried to save a few photographs on a different flash drive this time. I plugged in the flash drive in both usb ports and still nothing. I cannot find my flash drive anywhere! I checked all my system preferences and everything seems to be right so why am I still having this issue? I don't have a problem when i plug in my ipod or ipad, and I can't find my flash drive in Disk Utilities either.

Why won't itunes recognize my iphone 3 on my new mac book air?

I just got a brand new mac book air for the holiday and I migrated all my files over from my old computer, but when I connect my iphone 3 to the new computer, itunes did not recognize it in the finder. I was able to sync and back up some files. And the computer knows that the device is connected (I checked in the System information file and it is listed as being connected. The phone also charges when it is connected, and I can sync my files). I have gone through many of the already relevant suggested fixes (used different USB port, changed cable, restarted computer, restarted phone) and still nothing has changed. I am running mac OS X 10.8.2 on my laptop and I have version 6.0.1 on my iphone.
I haven't re-installed itunes yet, as some have suggested as the laptop is brand new.
Any suggestions?

try changing USB ports. if that doesnt work and you have restarted the computerand itunes is up to date, uninstall itunes in the order of the article below.

I believe that system has a hall sensor on it to detect when the lid is closed so it can put the system to sleep and/or disable the monitor so it can be used with an external monitor only. If the sensor is marginal or has a bad cable, it may intermittently cut the monitor on and off, and may likewise put the system to sleep. One way to check would be to plug in an external monitor and if the laptop's screen cuts off or doesn't show up, start using the trackpad and press on a non-typing key like the shift key. If the external display suddenly pops and becomes active while the laptop display remains black, it's probably a problem with the sensor or the cable/connection. You might be able to fool the sensor into kicking on and off by moving a magnet over it. It's located on the left had side of the base with the unit opened up, and right over the audio output plug.
I know of some people that put a small magnet right over the hall sensor's location so the laptop display turns off and they use the system with an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse. If fooling with magnets, make sure they're small and don't get them close to the hard drive because a strong magnet can wipe them out.
I don't know if this will help you much, but it might.

I have this problem too when I use heavy applications like big intense games. When you use this, a lot of memory and CPU space is taken up. This causes the fan to spaz out. The fan tries to cool it off, which in turn makes an awkward loud noise. If it makes noise/and/or gets loud, go to "Activity Moniter" and see if anything is taking up a large amount of CPU %. If anything is 30%-70%, that a lot. Earlier, I transfered 2,400 pictures from my iPod to my Air, and it went crazy. Within like 3 minutes of it transferring, it got hot. I looked at the CPU %, and it was anywhere from 80%-somehow like 230%. Anything like games or apps or a lot of internet browsers can warm it up. One other huge thing that can cause this is airflow. If you operate it on like a pillow or something soft and/or somewhere with low airflow/circulation, your computer will get hot. So, either use it in your lap or on something like a table, and try not to overwork the computer. If neither of these things help, bring it in to the Apple store. I hope this helped! Good luck!

ICal icon on my Mac Book Air displays a circled number at the upper right corner as does Mail for new emails - how do I find out what item(s) that number is referring to? And why does it show up on the Mac Book Air and not my 4S iPhone?

That number means that you have an event invitation. Use iCal>View>Show Notifications to choose what to do with the notification. Since OS X 10.7.2 is required for iCloud integration, I am not surprised that there are anomalies between the iPhone and the MacBook Pro.
