Why won't my macbook air boot up after mountain lion update?

I updated to mountain lion yesterday.  computer acted funny at the end of the night, so i shut the lid.  today, i opened the lid and it didn't turn right on.  so i powered up.  got about halfway into booting, and shut off.  now it won't start up at all.  any help would be awesome!  1,000 karma points to anyone who know what to do, since it won't boot up at all anymore.

it seems to be a power/battery issue.  unplugged, it won't boot up at all.  plugged in, it boots.  as soon as i unplug, macbook air turns off.  hope this helps you problem solving gurus out there.

  • Can't wake my MacBook up from sleep after Mountain Lion update

I have a MacBook Pro spring 2011 model. I did purchase the Mountain Lion update in September and this is when my problem started. I do have the put hard drives to sleep when possible turned off. The only change I have made to the Mac is the ram, I upgraded to 8GB but haven't had any issues with it. Any suggestions on what to do? The hard restart or having to shut my Mac down everytime is a pain.

Do you have a Bonjour Sleep Proxy server on your network?
<About Wake on Demand and Bonjour Sleep Proxy>
If you do not have a Bonjour Sleep Proxy server on your local network, then you cannot allow your Mac to go to sleep at all.  System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> Computer Sleep -> Never (slide all the way to the right).

  • Why won't my MacBook Air boot-up?

My MacBook Air won't boot up. When turning power on it begins to initialize as normal but never gets past the white screen with the Apple logo. The circle that indicates that it's booting up just spins and spins, but nothing ever happens. I have tried both restarting and completely shutting down, but the same problem occurs. I'm stuck....can anyone help me get past this glitch?

Your SSD could be permanently damaged.  Can you boot into recovery mode?  CMD+R on startup.
If you cannot get into recovery mode, any further diagnosis is pure speculation and futile.
Contact Apple for full in shop diagnosis and possible SSD replacement (if necessary).

  • Why won't my Macbook Air turn on after an update?

    Hello,
I was using my Macbook when the Internet decided to go down so I decided to run the latest update. It seemed to be working fine but as soon as it got to a certain stage on the progress bar it would just shut down, it would then chime and the bar would start to get to the same point and repeat the previous. I tried to turn it off at the power button and turn the volume off but it seemed that my keyboard wasn't working. Now my Macbook isn't even turning itself on and off, it seems to be completely broken and won't let me turn it on. Plus this is a fairly new Macbook and I've owned it since December.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thank you

My son's Macbook Air would not power on after a firmware update he did this morning. Doing the following 3 times brought it back:
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected
    3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time
    4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time
    5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • HT4410 I have just installed Windows 7 64-bit full version Home Premium using Bootcamp and cannot get access to the internet. I installed on a Macbook Air Mid 2012 with Mountain Lion. Are there some drivers that are missing from the Windows 7

Dear Apple. I have just installed Windows 7 64-bit full version Home Premium using Bootcamp and cannot get access to the internet. I installed on a Macbook Air Mid 2012 with Mountain Lion. Are there some drivers that are missing from the Windows 7 bootcamp install download from Apple

It is a Total Misconception that the Support files are installed when you are installing Windows, even if the USB drive that holds them is inserted in the system when doing the Windows install.
You must always Run the Setup.exe files from the support files or run the drivers individually once Windows has finished installing and booted to the desktop.
Also you really need to run the Boot Camp Control Panel Applet and check for updates as not all the newest drivers for full function of all the hardware is included with the original support download. That download is basically a generic version to get the system working and without doing the updates not everything will work properly.

  • Why won't my macbook air recognise/open a DVD that i have used before the update of yosemite?

I have recently updated my Macbook Air to the OS X Yosemite version 10.10. Before the update I have been using a DVD/CD which was working fine, since the update I have not been able to access the DVD/CD, it is coming up with 'quit unexpectedly' which has never popped up before when using the disc. Does anyone know how ill be able to gain access to the DVD/CD without it quitting before opening, and with it mentioning there has been a successful installation?

  • Why won't my Macbook Air charge?

My Macbook Air (late 2010) stopped charging and recommended a battery replacement. After replacing the battery with one purchased off of ebay, the computer still turns on when plugged in, but it will not charge. A very faint light is shown on the magsafe. I'm wondering if the problem is with the new battery or if there is another issue internally. Any diagnostic advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

But to be completely fair Apple had a bunch of bad batteries they had to replace...
Qualify 'bunch'.  That is simply not the case at all.
people come here to report problems,
its easy to consider there is a a problem with things when you stick your head in an emergency room, which is what these boards are.
which is a false statistical sampling, and more still a sample from the wrong place.
All batteries produced for Apple contain microprocessor chips for SMC communication.

  • Why won't my Macbook Air access a network hard drive?

I have a BT Home Hub 3 and have connected a Western Digital hard drive into the Home Hub's USB port.
I have an iMac running Snow Leopard, and a Macbook Air running Lion. When I open Finder on both machines I have "bthub3" appearing under the Shared heading in the sidebar.
Clicking on the bthub3 on the iMac enables me to access the WD drive without any problems at all.
However, when I click on bthub3 on the Macbook, it shows a folder called "USB_Disk", but when I click on that I get the message "The operation can't be completed because the original item for "USB_Disk" can't be found."
Searching the Apple support pages there is a page headed "OS X Lion: If you see "The original item cannot be found" when using a remote disk" which goes on to say that I may be attempting to do something which I can't do with a remote disk."
This makes no sense to me, especially as I am can't access the hard disk from the iMac with no problems.
Any thoughts on how I can access the hard disk from the Macbook?
    Thanks very much.

  • Why won't my macbook air connect to the internet?

I recently arrived at my relatives house and connected to their guest internet via password. I opened network preferences, selected the network, and it connected. Then when I went to google chrome and safari, I was sent to a page where a login password was required. I entered this password and surfed the internet until mid day. Then this evening I went to log on to the internet and my macbook air wouldn't bring up the log in page like it had earlier this morning and yesterday evening. My iPod touch connects just fine, and so do the windows computers in the house. There is a three-device limit for the guest internet, but currently there is only one computer on it. I tried restarting my macbook several times, I deleted the account from the list of frequently accessed wifi spots, but nothing seems to work. Help please! And nothing too technical, I'm not really too computer savvy. Thanks.

I recently had a similar problem.  I tried many solutions that others propsed.
My particular solution, I "looked" into my Westell router and found its IP address. Seeing the other 5 devices (all were working on the internet), I saw how the ending number of the address identified the particular device on the router. I went to the System Preferences on the MacBook Air, opened up Network, chose Advanced and went to the tab TCP/IP and then in the Configure IPv4 address pull down used the manual DHCP and entered a new number that was 12 higher than another computer.
Example 192.168.200.1 was router, another computer was 192.168.200.68 and I gave the Air .80 as the last number.  It worked!
I don't know what will happen when I return to my usual home network where it was working as well as on others.
Best of luck to all who have this problem.

  • HT1338 Why won't my MacBook Air Update iPhoto and iMovie ?

I bought my macbook Air mid last year and the flash drive was faulty in it and i had to have it replaced and ever since that i cant use imessage as they didnt put the serial number back in and now i cant update some applications on my computer and as iPhoto and iMovie. when i try to update these applications it just says " to update this aplication, sign into the account you used to purchase it" i am on the sane account as what i have always used the only differance is i have changed the email from what it use to be

The download takes a long time. If you have a Ethernet Adaptor use it. Try to locate a high-bandwidth wireless connection. Do you have enough free space on your SSD (including keeping 10-20% empty for VMEM and temporary files)
