Why won't my macbook air recognise/open a DVD that i have used before the update of yosemite?

I have recently updated my Macbook Air to the OS X Yosemite version 10.10. Before the update I have been using a DVD/CD which was working fine, since the update I have not been able to access the DVD/CD, it is coming up with 'quit unexpectedly' which has never popped up before when using the disc. Does anyone know how ill be able to gain access to the DVD/CD without it quitting before opening, and with it mentioning there has been a successful installation?

  • Why won't my macbook air connect to my wifi, but I have no problems with other devices?

I can't seem to connect my macbook air to the internet.  I have no problem with my regular mac.  What could the problem be?

Let us know what any error message is. Otherwise some general things you can try is creating a new network location in System Preferences > Network. Also you can reset the network settings by deleting /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration and restart the computer.

  • Everytime i restart my macbook, it always opens all apps that i have closed before even though i have unticked not to reopen windows during login

Every time i restart my mac, it always reloads the same apps that I have closed, even though before i shut down i have closed everything.
    Anyone got the solution?
    thanksss

I have the same problem on my notebook but I don't restart. Just do the control, alt, delete and bring up your task manager. Then scroll down to Firefox, end process and close. Now you should be able to restart FF. Not a fix but better than having to restart your laptop.

This is very odd. Were the images that you scanned before installing Yosemite saved as JPEG? If yes, have you tried saving the scanned image as a TIFF?
Also, if you scan to a USB memory stick from the MX and save this as a JPEG, and then open the file on the Mac, does it also display as black?

  • My macbook is running slower than ever. I have done all the updates and installed MS Office 11. Any thoughts?

    Hi, all,
My macbook is running slower than ever. I have done all the updates, emptied my downloads, and installed MS Office 11. I am not sure if I can do anything else?!

    arupp,
I suggest trying to replace the RAM and the memory storage. This is hard and could potentially ruin your MacBook if you do this the wrong way. Another easier way is to erase thing that you don't need.

  • Why doesn't my macbook air recognise .3gp files?

A friend gave me a burned disk with iphone video files in .3gp format that the external disk drive for my Macbook Air doesn't seem to recognise - it simply spits the disk out. I put the disk into my PC and it reads it - shows the icons for the files (but can't open them because it doesn't have the right software.). What software do I need to read these files on the MAcbook Air?

I found a list but have not used them nor do I know anything bout them: http://en.softonic.com/s/3gp-player:mac.  Use common sense when deciding which one to download, and if you chose to download one, do so at your own risk.

  • Why won't my macbook air boot up after mountain lion update?

I updated to mountain lion yesterday.  computer acted funny at the end of the night, so i shut the lid.  today, i opened the lid and it didn't turn right on.  so i powered up.  got about halfway into booting, and shut off.  now it won't start up at all.  any help would be awesome!  1,000 karma points to anyone who know what to do, since it won't boot up at all anymore.

it seems to be a power/battery issue.  unplugged, it won't boot up at all.  plugged in, it boots.  as soon as i unplug, macbook air turns off.  hope this helps you problem solving gurus out there.

  • Why won't my Macbook Air access a network hard drive?

I have a BT Home Hub 3 and have connected a Western Digital hard drive into the Home Hub's USB port.
I have an iMac running Snow Leopard, and a Macbook Air running Lion. When I open Finder on both machines I have "bthub3" appearing under the Shared heading in the sidebar.
Clicking on the bthub3 on the iMac enables me to access the WD drive without any problems at all.
However, when I click on bthub3 on the Macbook, it shows a folder called "USB_Disk", but when I click on that I get the message "The operation can't be completed because the original item for "USB_Disk" can't be found."
Searching the Apple support pages there is a page headed "OS X Lion: If you see "The original item cannot be found" when using a remote disk" which goes on to say that I may be attempting to do something which I can't do with a remote disk."
This makes no sense to me, especially as I am can't access the hard disk from the iMac with no problems.
Any thoughts on how I can access the hard disk from the Macbook?
    Thanks very much.

  • Why won't my macbook air connect to the internet?

I recently arrived at my relatives house and connected to their guest internet via password. I opened network preferences, selected the network, and it connected. Then when I went to google chrome and safari, I was sent to a page where a login password was required. I entered this password and surfed the internet until mid day. Then this evening I went to log on to the internet and my macbook air wouldn't bring up the log in page like it had earlier this morning and yesterday evening. My iPod touch connects just fine, and so do the windows computers in the house. There is a three-device limit for the guest internet, but currently there is only one computer on it. I tried restarting my macbook several times, I deleted the account from the list of frequently accessed wifi spots, but nothing seems to work. Help please! And nothing too technical, I'm not really too computer savvy. Thanks.

I recently had a similar problem.  I tried many solutions that others propsed.
My particular solution, I "looked" into my Westell router and found its IP address. Seeing the other 5 devices (all were working on the internet), I saw how the ending number of the address identified the particular device on the router. I went to the System Preferences on the MacBook Air, opened up Network, chose Advanced and went to the tab TCP/IP and then in the Configure IPv4 address pull down used the manual DHCP and entered a new number that was 12 higher than another computer.
Example 192.168.200.1 was router, another computer was 192.168.200.68 and I gave the Air .80 as the last number.  It worked!
I don't know what will happen when I return to my usual home network where it was working as well as on others.
Best of luck to all who have this problem.

  • Why won't my Macbook Air turn on after an update?

    Hello,
I was using my Macbook when the Internet decided to go down so I decided to run the latest update. It seemed to be working fine but as soon as it got to a certain stage on the progress bar it would just shut down, it would then chime and the bar would start to get to the same point and repeat the previous. I tried to turn it off at the power button and turn the volume off but it seemed that my keyboard wasn't working. Now my Macbook isn't even turning itself on and off, it seems to be completely broken and won't let me turn it on. Plus this is a fairly new Macbook and I've owned it since December.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thank you

My son's Macbook Air would not power on after a firmware update he did this morning. Doing the following 3 times brought it back:
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected
    3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time
    4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time
    5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • Why won't my MacBook Air boot-up?

My MacBook Air won't boot up. When turning power on it begins to initialize as normal but never gets past the white screen with the Apple logo. The circle that indicates that it's booting up just spins and spins, but nothing ever happens. I have tried both restarting and completely shutting down, but the same problem occurs. I'm stuck....can anyone help me get past this glitch?

Your SSD could be permanently damaged.  Can you boot into recovery mode?  CMD+R on startup.
If you cannot get into recovery mode, any further diagnosis is pure speculation and futile.
Contact Apple for full in shop diagnosis and possible SSD replacement (if necessary).
