  • Why won't my macbook pro turn on after charging?

New battery. Worked just fine both plugged in and on battery power last night. Now it won't turn on after charging for over 12 hours. Anyone experienced anything like this or should I just bring it to an apple store?

    Reset the SMC and PRAM.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Why won't my MacBook Pro turn on?

I've been trying to turn on my MacBook Pro all morning, at first it wouldn't change from the start up screen (with the Apple symbol and swirling loading circle). I waited for a while before force shutting it down. Since then, everytime I try to turn it on, the start up screen will appear for a few seconds before it shuts down by itself. I've only had the MacBook Pro for about a month, I don't understand why it would be having problems already. Any insight or suggestions would be much appreciated!

    MaQBookPro,
Post here with your response, good news, and more so we can solve this issue.
A swirling loading animation means that a routine is in a circular loop. I don't know what caused the loop, but to stop it, press the power button on the upper right hand of the MBP. Hold it down for at least five seconds, or at least until the screen turns black and the computer reboots.
You have several options. You can let the MBP load again, hopefully back to its former self. Or you can press SHIFT continually after pressing the power button; this opens the MBP into safe mode, where you can perform various diagnostics that might be useful.

  • Why won't my Macbook Air turn on after an update?

    Hello,
I was using my Macbook when the Internet decided to go down so I decided to run the latest update. It seemed to be working fine but as soon as it got to a certain stage on the progress bar it would just shut down, it would then chime and the bar would start to get to the same point and repeat the previous. I tried to turn it off at the power button and turn the volume off but it seemed that my keyboard wasn't working. Now my Macbook isn't even turning itself on and off, it seems to be completely broken and won't let me turn it on. Plus this is a fairly new Macbook and I've owned it since December.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thank you

My son's Macbook Air would not power on after a firmware update he did this morning. Doing the following 3 times brought it back:
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected
    3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time
    4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time
    5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

Why won't my MacBook Pro 10.9.2 take my Apple ID to sign into iCloud?
I've verified my Apple ID and iCloud is working on my iPad with this same Apple ID.

My ipad and iphone works perfect. It's a certificate problem. Try to reset the keychain http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5813

Maybe it works for you :-)

  • Why won't my MACBOOK PRO charge anymore

Why won't my MACBOOK PRO charge anymore, I am living in China and my 8 month old MACBOOK PRO won't take a charge!! It has now gone flat and I am out of a computer. I bought a new charger but that didn't work. This is ridiculous!!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
To check that the battery is damaged, open System Information or System Profiler (in /Applications/Utilities), choose Power in the sidebar, and copy here "Charge Information" and "Health Information". You can also check your battery status in the battery menu, on the menu bar. If its status is Replace Now or Service Battery, take your MacBook Pro to an Apple Store or reseller to have the battery replaced for free.
If you don't see any of those messages, do a SMC reset > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • How do I get iCloud to share info from my macbook pro to my iMac? I have all the updates on both but I am SO lost!!!

I am having a heck of a time syncing my macbook pro with my iMac. I have all the updates and followed the instructions on apple.com, but there is no communication with either device nor an option that I find to sync them up. When I turn on photo stream on either device, it only selects a few, maybe 1,000 out of the nearly 10,000 photos I have. I try selecting all and then choosing photo stream but with no luck. I know there's a lot of you smart people out there who know what I'm doing wrong. Please help!!!

The following is from this Apple document, iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ, and will help you understand how Photo Stream works:
    My Photo Stream
When you take photos on an iOS device, or import photos from your digital camera to your computer, My Photo Stream can automatically upload your new photos to iCloud and push them to all of your other devices.
When do photos upload to My Photo Stream?
How long are My Photo Stream photos stored in iCloud?
The photos you upload to My Photo Stream are stored in iCloud for 30 days to give your devices plenty of time to connect and download them.
How many photos are stored in My Photo Stream on my devices and computers?
iCloud pushes all your photos to the My Photo Stream album on your devices and computers, and manages them efficiently, so you don’t run out of storage space.
Your iOS devices keep a rolling collection of your last 1000 photos in the My Photo Stream album. From there, you can browse your recent photos or move the ones you like to your Camera Roll or another album to keep them on your device forever.
Since your Mac and PC have more storage than your iOS devices, you can choose to have all of your My Photo Stream photos automatically downloaded. In iPhoto or Aperture preferences on your Mac, be sure to select Photo Stream > My Photo Stream > Automatic Import. All of your photo stream photos will be imported into your Events, Projects, Photos, Faces, and Places folders in iPhoto or Aperture. On your PC with Photo Stream enabled in the Control Panel, all of your photos will be imported into C:\Users\<user name>\Pictures\Photo Stream\My Photo Stream.

  • Why won't my MacBook pro power up?

Hello, I have a MacBook Pro that I purchased in Jan of 07.  When I upgraded to Snow Leopard it told me that my battery was dead and that it needed replacing.  So I did that yesterday...because it wouldn't power up, even with the MagSafe power adapter plugged in.  What happens is...I press the power button, the disc drive(I think?..to the right of the trackpad) makes its normal noise and the light thats in the button to open the screen(the SIL?) lights up, but doesn't "breathe" like it normally does(bright to dim).  The screen doesn't turn on at all..no other noises..no startup chime or anything.  Then it just stays like that...so far for over 12 hrs.  I've left it charging for over 24hrs...with the power off, on, with the screen open and with it closed(so four days worth of charging).  I've recently read some of these posts and I've tried resetting the SMC with no luck.  The new battery was purchased from the Apple store do I know it's not some cheapy knockoff.   Still I get the same results.  Is my MacBook Pro dead or what? Please advise..any help would be greatly appreciated!;-)  Thank You!

  • Why won't my MacBook Pro play my DVDs?

I've had my MacBook Pro since Dec 25, 2013. (It's the mid 2012 version) And I haven't tried using the DVD player until today. For some reason, I tried putting a DVD in the disk drive but it won't accept it. I tried pushing the DVD in, but I didn't want to get it stuck. What's the problem?

The drive is either faulty or there is a disc in it. Hold down the Eject button on the keyboard to eject the disc that is in there. If that fail try restartiing the system and hold down, click and hold, the trackpad. If that fails to eject a disc or there is no other disc in the drive them you need to take the system to an Apple store to be checked out and fixed under the warranty.

  • HT3275 Why won"t my MacBook Pro successfully backup anymore?

My MacBook Pro will no longer backup and I get the error message " Volume/Data/my computer name/sparsebundle is already in use." There are no other computers backing up. Seems I started having this problem after upgrading to Mountain Lion. I've tried the on/off fix but that didn't work.
    Thanks for any help.

You may need to "reboot" your entire network. Power down your modem, the TC, all network clients. Allow a moment or two for everything to reset then power them back up again.

  • Why won't my airport express turn on after thunder storm ?

Why won't my airport express turn on?

There are three Airport resets, soft, hard and factory default.  It would probably be beneficial if you tried each one in sequence.  Actually, you could jump to the factory default reset if you don't mind reconfiguring from scratch.
If none of the above helps, you may well have a harware problem.

  • Bought a refurb Macbook pro a week ago.  Return it for the new one?

I recently bought a refurbished macbook pro and realize that the new one has just come out.   Give that I am still within the 14 day window to return it is this course of action advisable?   Here are the specs on the refurbished one I just bought for 1600: RFB MBP 15.4/2.3/2X2GB/500/SD/HR-AG-USA     .   Thanks for sage words of wisdom and advice!

However I also like that the macbook pro is upgradable.   My understanding is that the retina one is not.   As the new one is retina I assume it is not upgradable.
There are third party storage options:

But installing one will void the warranty.  RAM cannot be altered in a retina.
    Ciao.

  • Why won't my MacBook Pro's screen turn on?

Why won't my Mac Book Pro's screen turn on at start up?

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
Sometimes the cause of the problem may be an outage in Apple's network, in which case none of the steps below will have any effect. You just have to wait for the outage to be fixed. That should rarely, if ever, take more than a few hours.
    Step 1
Sign in to the App Store by selecting Sign In from the Store menu. If you're already signed in, sign out and then sign in again.
    Step 2
Log out or restart the computer.
    Step 3
Remove or disable "LittleSnitch" or any similar third-party software that blocks outgoing network connections according to the developer's instructions.
    Step 4
Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode.)
    Step 5
If possible, connect to a different network and test.
    Step 6
There are reports that resetting the PRAM may solve the problem in some cases. I can't confirm.

  • Why won't my MacBook Pro connect to my wifi?

I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.5.  My ISP is BT Vision so have a open reach fibre modem and a BT HomeHub. All my other wifi devices (iPhone 4S, 5S and Ipad 3) connect to my home network and internet first time every time! However, my MacBook is extremely temperamental.
When the laptop does connect to the internet it takes a random combination of restarting and turning the wifi on and off. If the laptop is left to connect on its own it either takes an extended period of time (30mins) or it simply won't connect. I have looked through the wifi settings but can't see any reason why the laptop won't connect. The wifi network is visible all he time.
    Any ideas?

I know how to solve this problem had the same issue, its basically because you BTHome hub runs a 5GHz frequency a long with a 2GHz frequency and for some reason your mac tries to connect to that even though they dont have the techologies will allow them to run on that frequency, making you not connect to the internet. To fix this log into your homehub settings onlin by going to http://bthomehub.home/then going to advanced settings, wireless which should be under it and then click on the 5GHz and turn it off or rename  it and click apply. So you can make your laptop connect to the correct frequency. IF you can connect to the internet on your laptop then you can still do the same steps and process on your phone or any device that connects your BThomehub.
