Why won't my macbook reboot after installing usb drive?

I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro running Mavericks and I installed a 3.0 usb express card. I installed the recommended driver and rebooted but now I'm getting the spinning thingee under the apple logo on the gray screen. I restarted in safe mode but the keyboard wouldn't work.  So I held down option and booted up and was able to run disk utility but it said everything is okay.  Any ideas?

Contact the mfgrs of the card for assistance. The drivers you have may not be compatible with the version of OS X you are running.

Why won't my Macbook recognize the install disk?  I want to run the Apple Hardware Test, but the computer will not boot from the install disk, it keeps ejecting the disk.

    Several possibilities -
The disk may be from a different model of computer.
The disk itself may be damaged.
The optical drive in your MacBook may have gone bad. Can it read other DVDs?

  • Why won't logic 7 open after installing PT LE 7

does anyone know why logic 7 isn't opening after i installed PT LE 7? i just upgraded to tiger and PT 7 but now my Logice 7.1.1 won't open. it freezes while trying to start up and then i have to 'force quit' in order to shut it back down. any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    david

Pro Tools LE and Logic Pro don´t have anything to do with each other. Installing PT LE 7 shouldn´t change anything with your Logic setup, unless of course you use your digidesign hardware in Logic as well.
If you use the digi hardware as your interface in Logic, try to drag the digi core audio driver out of its folder and try to start Logic again. The digi core audio driver used to cause a lot of trouble.
Also, if you had Logic on your system before, try to throw away all its preferences, especially the Logic PM data! Check the prefs folder in the system (root) folder and your user prefs folder as well.

  • Why won't iMovie 11 open after installing lion?

I recently installed OS X Lion on my early 2008 Macbook and iMovie 11 worked perfectly.  However, I just upgraded my internal hard drive to 500gb.  I then reinstalled the new OS X Lion on this hard drive and used Time Machine to import all my files and applications including iMovie 11.  However, now iMovie will not open.  The menu bar shows that the application is running, however, there are no windows open and I can't open any projects.  I have run software update many times and it states that it is up-to-date (iMovie 9.0.4).    I even redownloaded iLife and resinstalled everything, but it still won't open.  Any suggestions?

Try removing these two files (must be removed at the same time)
    1: Quit iMovie 11
    2: Remove: {your local home account}>Library>Preferences>com.apple.iApps.plist
        AND
    3: Remove: {your local homeaccount}>Library>Preferences>com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
These files will be recreated when you launch iMove
4: Start up iMovie 11 (should show your movie again)
    Good Luck. Work Great!
    PS...
Got Lion? (user prefs is hidden)- Here is how to find the user library preferences. Then you can remove the files as described. This will fix iMovie launching and showing the windows.
Use Go To Folder The Go To Folder command, in the Finder’s Go menu (also accessible by pressing Shift+Command+G). Just type ~/Libraryand click Go to view the folder.

  • Why won't my MacBook start up/install Mac OS X?

Today, I bought a MacBook and when I started it up, it showed me a file folder with the question mark. According to the guide that came with it, I have to re-install OS X. I put in the disk, and the utility worked. However, it will not give me a drive location to install OS X. Also, it won't let me eject the disk. So... what do I do?????

Yes, it sounds like it. Will they send you a new one? They are easy to replace.

  • Why won't my MacBook recognise my external hard drive?

I've just upgraded to a new MacBook.
I have a Maxtor Mini4 external hard drive which I used with my old iBook G4 (running OSX 10.4).
When I connect the hard drive to my MacBook it isn't recognised (it doesn't appear in Finder and the MacBook doesn't acknowledge the existence of the hard drive in any way).
I've downloaded the Maxtor software and installed it successfully on the MacBook.
Any ideas on why the MacBook doesn't recognise the hard drive? (the hard drive is powered by USB - it has no external power cord).
I still have my iBook and it continues to recognise the hard drive, so there is no problem with the drive.
    Thanks

Are there two USB plugs connected to the wire coming out of the drive? Do you see the drive in your System Profiler? Even if it doesn't mount, it should show up in there.
I second that suggestion as the first thing your should look at. I had a SimpleTech drive that worked off of one port on a certain PC, but didn't mount with a single plug on any of my Macs. It always showed up in the USB Tree in System Profiler although I'm guessing it gave up trying to mount after sampling the power output.
The USB ports are likely to be and sometimes there are enough differences in the power output of two USB ports that a bus-powered hard drive can work in one but not the other. In general it's because a bus-powered device doesn't properly work with a standard spec 2.5W USB port.

  • After installing USB driver for TEAC AH01 No Internet

Last night I installed the mac driver of the TEAC AH01 amplifier on my 2012 Mac Pro with Mavericks 10.9.2. After I rebooted, I lost internet connection; I get the "Safari can't open the page NSPOSIXErrorDomain: 1" error.
It's the same error users got when they had Intego products installed that were blocking Internet access
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/10887450#10887450
But I don't have any of those Intego products installed. I do have Bitdefender Virus Scanner Plus, but it's disabled and not running. I also unchecked the "automatic proxies" setting under Network. Ping and traceroute to web sites work just fine. But no applications (Safari, Mail, Google Earth, etc) can connect to the Internet.
I was able to browse the web right before I rebooted (in fact, I had downloaded the TEAC driver from their web site

    Any advice?
    Thank you.

    Anyone had the same issue?

  • Can't boot from windows 7 install usb drive created in bootcamp

So, my real problem is that my Windows 7 install won't boot after I installed some windows updates. I'm using OSX Lion and the latest version of Bootcamp. I've had Windows installed on my mid 2011 mac mini for only about a day. It had been working flawlessly so far.
Windows automatically downloaded and installed some updates and now it is broken.
When I attempt to boot windows I get a black screen that just hangs forever. No windows logo, no blinking cursor, no nothing.
I thought I could use my Windows 7 Install usb drive to maybe try and do a recovery or repair install but now my USB drive wont boot either. I get the same black screen.
Any ideas on why I can't boot even the install usb drive?
Note: this is the same USB drive I used to install windows the first time so it's definately capable. I've even used my install iso to re-create the usb drive installer and still nothing.

Install ISO means you burned DVD installer and did you reduce burn speed? otherwise it is a bad install.
3rd party updates? for security suite? stick to MS Security Essentials instead.

  • Fix for continuous reboot after installing Service Pack 3 in Windows XP

After contacting HP Technical Support and speaking to a supervisor we were able to solve the problem of Windows continuously rebooting after installing SP3. Here are the steps that fixed the problem with my HP Pavilion running on an AMD processor. The steps are actually fairly straight forward and easy....
Issue: The computer reboots continuously after installing Windows XP service pack 3
Computer reboots continuously after installing Windows XP service pack 3 on AMD systems. The problem is that with some configurations, SP3 causes the computer to crash during boot, and Windows XP, by default, is set up to automatically reboot when it crashes. That is why you end up in the endless rebooting scenario.
    Cause:
On HP computers, the same Windows installation disc image for Intel processor based PC's is deployed for the AMD processor based computers as well. Because the original installation image for both Intel and AMD is the same, all have the intelppm.sys driver installed and running. That driver provides power management on Intel-based computers. On an AMD-based computer, amdk8.sys provides the same functionality for power management.
    Symptoms:
Ordinarily, having intelppm.sys running on an AMD-based computer appears to cause no problems. However, on the first reboot after a Service Pack 3 installation, it causes a big problem. The computer either fails to boot, or crashes with a STOP error code of 0x0000007e.
You may not see the error code because the computer reboots too fast. In order to get the error message, you need to set an option during startup. To do so, open the windows advanced menu by tapping the f8 key on startup. Then select the "Disable automatic restart on system failure" option.
    Solution:
If you have an AMD-based computer, however, you do not need the intelppm.sys driver and can disable it. There are three methods in order to do this.
Step 1: Please try to log on the system in safe mode.
    1. While using Safe mode open the command prompt....  Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt
Run the following command in the command prompt just like it's typed: sc config intelppm start= disabled
    Step 2:
If the issue persists, please try to log on or boot the system in recovery console (refer to the web document)
    2. Using recovery console:
If you booted into the recovery console, from a command prompt, type: disable intelppm
Step 3: Please check in registry.
    3. Using windows registry:
    1. Run regedit
    2. Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    3. From the File menu, select "Load hive"
    4. Navigate to %systemdriver%\Windows\System32\Config on the dead system and select the file name System
    5. Name it something you can remember, such as "horked"
    6. Navigate to horked\ControlSet001\Services\IntelPPM
    7. Double click the Start value and set it to 4
    8. If you did what I did and completely messed things up by running a disk check previously, navigate to ControlSet001\Control\SessionManager. Open the BootExecute value and clear out the autochk entries.
    9. Repeat steps 6-8 for the other control sets.
    10. Reboot

For future reference: Service pack 3 Installation steps:
Before installing the service pack 3 update, please follow the steps listed above and save yourself much time and effort.
To uninstall service pack 3, I suggest that you uninstall it from add/remove programs.
    Step 1:
Uninstall service pack 3 from add/remove programs:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Select Run.
    3. Type appwiz.cpl in the run field.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Click change or remove programs.
    6. Select the program -service pack 3 that you want to uninstall or remove.

    8. It will pop up the message stating that "Are you sure you want to remove the programs".
    9. Click Yes. It will help you to remove or uninstall the installed programs from add and remove programs.
Step 2: If the issue persists, I suggest you to perform system restore and then try to install the service pack 3 after performing the steps mentioned above in regards to removing the intelppm.sys Driver.

I hope this helps someone who is having this problem. It sure took me a minute to get it all figured out. :0)

Still useful as of 12/30/11. Have ten Lenovo 5042 computers with downgrade licenses to run XP and have a ghosted image from another Lenovo 5042 having and Intel cpu. My target computers all have AMD cpus in them and the image would continuously reboot on
    the AMD computers.
Used method 1 and it cleared the problem instantly, many thanks for the post and the time and effort it took to dig up the answer..
