WHy won't my new Airport Extreme connect to the Internet?

I can connect no problem using direct LAN cable, but when I try setting up the AirPort, it doesn't work. Green light is on and everything, just fails to connect to the Internet. Very frustrating. My ethernet uses PPPoE, so I tried setting that up in the AirPort, but it won't work then either......Network Diagnostics keeps getting me to the "Internet failed" stage if I try using DHCP, or only to "Network Settings failed" if I try using PPPoE (even though my direct LAN cable works fine on the same settings! Grrrrrr!) Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks very much for the reply. I've actually sorted out the problem since posting - just a few minutes ago. I reset the AirPort and reconfigured everything in manual mode with the ethernet cord from my computer connected to the AirPort. I then disconnected the ethernet cord, rebooted the modem and AirPort, did a bit more troubleshooting and suddenly I was connected to the Internet! Still not sure exactly what I did that fixed the problem, but everything is working ok now.

Why won't my pc lap top connect to the internet since i installed airport extreme

Installed a new airport extreme base station . The problem is my sons pc lap top that use to connect to the internet with my airport express wont connect to the internet with airport extreme . It Connects to the wireless network but not the internet . All my other computers 2 apple lap tops an imac desk top and a kindle fire connects to the internet . The three macs are running mountain lion 10.8.2 His pc is running windows xp .Any help would be appreciated .

Use System Preferences: Network: Show Network Port Configurations, there should be a setting where you can enable and disable individual Network Ports. Make sure that all the ports are disabled, except for Airport, the MacBook might be trying to connect to Ethernet via another port and not using Airport, even though it appears to be connected to linksys.
OS X 10.5 Leopard is organized a little different from OS X 10.4 Tiger, but you should be able to find the place in that System Preferences screen where you can display and change the Network Port Configurations.
You might possibly need to check the wireless router configuration to see how many IP addresses it can assign or if there are some other connection restrictions enabled on the router, for more info see the User Guide

You should plan to connect one AirPort Extreme to the modem and the second AirPort Extreme to the first. The first Extreme will connect to the modem using an Ethernet cable. The second Extreme can connect to the first also using an Ethernet cable, or it can connect using wireless only.

I-Tunes won't open unless I'm connected to the internet

I am a relatively new user to I-Tunes; when I try to open I-Tunes to play a CD or other files in my library, I-Tunes won't open unless I am connected to the Internet. Is this normal?

Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

I have an old PowerPC and a Macbook Pro running 10.6.7 sitting side by side. Both are using AirPort to connect to the internet wirelessly to the same router, but the old Mac connects with full bars, but the MBP struggles with only 2. Pls help, thanks!

Yes, I could connect them by ethernet if all I wanted to do was transfer files, but I would like to network them so I could use wireless internet. The machines are not always so close together, I did that to simplify the testing. With the very slow transfer speeds I am reluctant to move ahead with the internet step.

New Airport Extreme, Green Light, No Internet

Trying to get wifi connection so my mom can use her new ipad I bought her for Christmas and so guests can use wifi when they visit. I connected this new airport extreme 802.11n Wi_Fi to their comcast modem. After connecting get green light on airport extreme but now no internet connection on mac desktop computer. Have tried resetting modem, powering off airport and computer... still no internet. Internet works fine using comcast modem but does not connect to internet at all with airport extreme. Help. Extremely frustrated and ready to return this airport extreme.

Welcome to the discussion area!
It's likely not the AirPort Extreme that is causing your issue. It is the cable modem.
Perhaps you were not aware that a cable modem must be completely reset whenever there is a change in the device that the modem is connected to? Your ISP should have made this clear to you. A good reset often takes 30 minutes or more.
Push the reset button on the modem
Power off the modem for 30 minutes
Pull the battery if it's easily accessible
Power down the AirPort Extreme and your computers
After the wait period, power up the modem first and let it run for 3-4 minutes by itself.
Then power up the AirPort Extreme the same way
Then power up your other devices the same way
Please post back on your results.

Airport Extreme keeps dropping the internet connection to my mac

Hi, for a while now my airport extreme has been dropping my internet connection to all my mac computers. Its just the internet that drops i still have connection to the airport because i have a external HD hooked up to it and i can still access it when the internet drops. I dont think it has anything to do with my macbook because i have taken it friends places that have a wireless router and it never drops there. The airport usually drops when im on youtube watching videos. It always seems to drop when the video is less then half way done loading. I would extremely appreciate the help. Thank you for your time.

My problem is gone!!!!! I found what my problem was! So... after many days of being frustrated with the dropping. I phoned apple. They said it might be the service provider. Ok, well Apple said that some internet service providers don't like it when people use wireless routers. Because of people stealing internet and such. And since there is a lot of computers running off of my wireless router there are a lot of IP addresses connected to the internet opposed to just one set if you were connected to one computer by ethernet. So after my chat with apple, I phoned my internet service provider, Tbaytel. I told them that i have been losing internet connection for 5 months, and i would like it they would tell me what's going on. I told this guy what apple told me about the IP addresses always changing and he started to laugh at me and he told me that they don't know what there talking about.. After they told me to do the stupid shut everything off... now turn it back on.... is that light flashing?? Ok... now plug in the router.... All ******** basically. So after this guy being all confident telling me what to do and thinking that the problem will be gone, we wait 5 min and the internet drops again. So i tell him. There was a long pause....Ok ill try and do a reboot of the connection. He does this reboot thing and i have connection again. It doesn't drop. 3 hours later it drops again... So the problem came from the internet service provider, which was not a very good one. 2 months ago we swithed to SHAW and guess what? We haven't dropped yet!

I just upgraded to firefox 6 and now cannot connect to the internet. IE still works fine but firefox won't connect. Any suggestions on how to get the new firefox to connect to the internet?

I just upgraded to ff 6.0.1 via an automatic push. Since then, ff hasnt been able to connect to the internet. Error message:

After upgrading, your firewall may not be recognizing the new Firefox version and is not allowing it access to the internet. On your firewall progam's allowed applications list, remove Firefox, then re-start Firefox, try going to a website, your firewall will detect the new version of Firefox, then give the permissions needed for Firefox to have internet access.

Time capsule won`t allow multiple devices to connect to the internet

I`ve got a 2TB time capsule that worked fine.
I moved to this condo where the is already a wired internet service available to each apartment. The access is made through a login and password whenever You open you browser, if connected directly on the WAN cable. No multiple logs are allowed.
When I used my Time Capsule to create a wi-fi network and serve as a router I could access the internet on my MacBook over the wi-fi just created. No problem at all. But whenever I try to log other devices (iphone, apple tv) it asks for my ap login and password, and of course it states that there`s already an active connection to that user and won`t grant me access.
I`ve then borrowed a tp-lynk router from a friend of mine, created a wi-fi network (without the time capsule on it), it asked for the log in and all but then everything worked fine and I could use all my devices through this network.
Back to the time capsule, I`ve tried different settings. First one was bridge mode, but it didn`t work. Tried DHCP & NAT but had the double NAT issue.

but it would`t work either.
My guess is that somehow Time Capsule is attributing different IP addresses to each device that enters the Wi-Fi network, and that`s the reason I can`t access the net, since the service provider won`t allow more than one connection. On the other hand TP-Lynk was able to connect to the internet service through one IP address and then connect to other devices.
Any idea on how to solve this issue?

Tried DHCP & NAT but had the double NAT issue.
If you got the TC working and had double NAT .. sorry but the TP-Link is exactly the same.. you cannot distribute a single IP without double NAT.. the TC tells you it is a problem.. the TP-Link doesn't.. otherwise there is no difference.
But it is important the double NAT is setup right.. ie you must use different ranges.. please tell us the IP you get from a directly connected computer..
If it is 10.x.x.x then you should move the TC to 192.168. rather than default IP of 10.0.1.1 .. the TP-Link already will use 192.168.x.x. which might also explain why it works better.

My Airport Express connects to the internet only in bridge Modus - how to define the DHCP settings?

Hello, I am sitting here in the middle of Siberia with my brand new Airport Extreme and it connects to the Internet only if it is in Bridge Modus - unfortunately I have also no idea what IP address range the provide has for me ... back in Europe this would work by itself and I do not have a DNS server, which I assume does not help either - any suggestions?

OK - by now I solved the problem - honestly, I did not solve it myself, it solved itself in a miraculous way ... anyway, here what happened: I searched the web for solutions concerning a potential incompatibility of my airport express and the Motorola SB5101E and found a description ... but, for what ever reasons it did not work. So finally I gave up and:
1) Disconnected the Airport express from the modem
2) Connected my Mac Mini to the Airport Express
3) Set the Airport Express up for WLan using HDCP/NAP (in order to be able to utilize my apple TV for at least this Sunday evening)
4) Disconnected my Mac Mini from the Airport Express
5) Connected all my devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac Mini, etc.) to the WLan
6) Reconnected the Airport Express to the Modem
7) Now I am using all devices via WLan and it works
So, to me it sesames that there was a conflict between the Mac Mini being the one to configure the Airport Express and trying to get access to the Internet through it via cable at the same time, which might fit to an article about some IP address conflicts and the need to set up a virtual access and so on that I did not fully understand ... Anyway, it worked!

Airport not connecting to the internet

Hi guys, i am having trouble with my wireless internet connection. I have been using the same router for over a year and all has been fine. The router itself seems to be ok and the airport is picking up a full signal, however i cannot connect to the internet. I have found that my IP address is different to that of the router (two numbers shorter and one different). Could this be the source of the problem and if so, how would i go about sorting it?

I am having the same problem... At first light was green, great wifi connection but unable to connect to the internet. I've played so much with it, changing DNS, pulling back to previous FW and now just a blinking amber light.
My comcast connection works fine if I manually connect the Ethernet to my laptop. But my macpro is up stairs with a wifi connection!
I thought maybe it was the installation of Parallels, but i've upgraded to tge new version and still the same problem?
Even though I set the connection to DHCP the IP address seems to stay the same 169.254.255.1? Is that right? I did renew but no change.

IPad 2 won't restore from backup or connect to the internet

I'm having some trouble with a 2-month old iPad 2. The first of which was a sudden failure to connect to the internet on wifi, despite being able to connect to the network. Have searched extensively, I tried all the solutions I could: airplane mode on and off, forget the network and reconnect, auto-brightness off, renew the DHCP lease, reset network settings, public DNS information - everything, and nothing worked. The only thing I can't do reset the router as I'm on a public network and don't have physical access to it. When I connect to the network, after about 5 minutes I get details of the IP address, DNS server and all that stuff. But I can't connect to the internet or even to the network's sign-in page.
So I thought there was nothing else for it but to do a restore. What a mistake to make. For one thing, restoring to factory settings has done nothing for my wifi problem. And now iTunes is unable to restore my iPad from the last backup. It throws up an error message about not having enough hard drive space (I started off with about 7.8Gb free - and I had a lot less than that when I restored the iPad from my last iPad 1 backup when it was new). And when I quit iTunes, I have 0kb free on my hard drive. Where has all the space gone?
So I suppose I have 3 questions:
Where did my 7Gb of hard drive space go and how can I get it back?
How do I restore my iPad so that I haven't lost all of my notes, emails, calendar events and the like?
How do I make my iPad connect to the internet again?
I know where iTunes keeps its mobile backups on my hard drive, but I'm loathe to go in and start deleting stuff, because I would like to retrieve all the stuff I put on my iPad in 2 months of use.
Any advice on any/all of the issues above would be greatly appreciated as my own efforts have managed to kill my iPad and do some very strange things to my laptop.

Have you installed any sort of anti virus or firewall software? Something that could be blocking the connection?
Do you have a different cable to try?
