Why won't my OPTIARC DVD RW AD-7170A burn to DVD-R?

Why won't my OPTIARC DVD RW AD-7170A burn to DVD-R?

Ahh...but it may. you could try the following-change the brand of blank DVD-R you use. Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden are good, maxell, maybe, Sony, and TDK not so much. Also, see if cleaning the drive's lens helps, as may repairing permissions. Could be that your drive is starting to fail. replacement may be an option, and not that expensive. Really, any ATAPI dvd burner will work as a replacement (in a pinch), just make sure to set the jumper the same way as the Optiarc (master, I think),. if using two, then cable select
HOpe this helps

  • Why won't Apple provide a list of COMPATIBLE SET TOP DVD PLAYERS?

Why won't Apple provide its users a comprehensive list of COMPATIBLE DVD SET TOP PLAYERS? If they have, can someone direct me (us) to it? Although most set top DVD players will read Apple burned DVD discs, many set top DVD players will NOT read DVD's burned with the combination of iDVD and or DVD Studio Pro software and the built-in burners that ship with Mac computers. Obviously this is a third-party related issue, but it might be nice to provide at least the know set-top DVD players that DO WORK with DVD's burned on Apple computers using Apple software.

Blatantly untrue ... pure BULL. I've been burning DVDs for years with my Mac and DVD-SP. After thousands of DVDs delivered to clients, I've only had two (yes, 2) complaints of playback issues.
The two major factors to playback compatibility are the quality of the media and the bit rate used. Keep bit rates reasonable; don't use AIFF audio; use only good quality media like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden and stay away from low quality media such as Memorex.

  • Why won't the DVD Player recognise the burned HD DVD?

Can't find the answer and don't know where to start looking. (My Software Update is up to date.)
I spent a (24/7) week compressing, building and burning 60 minutes (3.8GB) of HD-DVD on a DVD-R. The latter plays perfectly in my Mac, (DVD Player) but when I load it into the (Toshiba HD-E1KE) DVD player, the 'green' window starts off by saying: HD DVD, but then switches to saying: M55G and the on-screen caption says: NOT IN DVD FORMAT.
I have checked and rechecked the DVD-Studio-Pro Disc Properties were set to Red Laser, Single Layer, One Side and 12 cm and (for my case) PAL and HD DVD.
What am I missing? As you will appreciate, having sweated blood to get this far and for it to fall at the final hurdle is driving me NUTS!
    Mac Pro 2 x 3 GHz Dual Core, 3GB 667 MHz   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Well, you all asked how I got on and here it is...
I am now here in California where I collared a "Genius" in an Apple Store who also knows this stuff. (I love those guys!)
The bottom line (according to him and he SEEMS to know exacty what he is talking about) Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Compressor and Macs are INCAPABLE of producing an HD DVD, notwithstanding the very strong suggestion to the contrary by Apple in their product information.
He says that no Apple currently contains the required appraratus to even burn a DVD in HD, assuming you got that far in the editing, formatting and compression.
I am extremely displeased, as you can imagine, as I have spent a great deal of money and time on a project which (according to the Genius) never had a chance of working - on ANY Mac equipment. All you can do in FCP and DVDSP is produce and burn an SD DVD, so what's the blooming point of all that "HD" suffixing unless to hoodwink people into handing over large sums of money to Apple?
I suppose there is a slim chance I might find an outfit somewhere in London who will take it all as a data file and burn it onto an HD DVD for me, although I do not as yet know where to look.
Even if I CAN, it will cost me more money I never anticipated when I started all this and means I cannot produce this (or other such) work independently.
Forgive me for saying so, but I do find the whole thing close to dishonest, as such a major shortcoming ought to have been made crystal clear on the BOX, let alone within the verbose and often repetitive manuals weighty enough to half fill the Library of Congress!
    Is it me?
I have to say that it appears there is nobody anywhere who has managed to burn an HD DVD using this gear, so it looks like the end of the road for the stated reason.
If anybody knows of a way of getting it burned professionally somewhere in England without costing silly money, it might save my project.
    End of rant!!!

  • HP dv6263cl DVD Rom unable to burn any dvd

    dear hp/support team mates:
i have purchased HP 6000 series notebook in Oct -07 and i m satisfied with its performance. intially i didn't have any data to burn on the dvd rom. but with passage of time i have data which requires backup on dvd rom. now the problem i m facing is i m unable to write/burn any data on blank dvd's which are available in open market.
i have changed different brands of dvd rw and used multi softwares to burn the dvd. everytime i get the error its dvd fault which is unable to have write on it. now i m not technical person but if proper guidence is transfered then i m able to diagnose the issue.
the error i get is .. The disc in the drive is not writable disc or it is full. Please insert a writable disc in drive.
now waiting for the response from your end.

Can you play a movie dvd? In other words is the dvd drive otherwise operational? If you have never reloaded the operating system after 2.5 years that would be the place to start. After all that time it is very possible the registry or other part of software is corrupted. You also say you have installed multiple disk burning software installations. That can pose a problem. I would ask you to recover it to factory state or better yet install a new clean copy of Windows 7 so we can properly isolate potential hardware issues from software issues.
We are not official HP people by the way just users who volunteer to help.
I am assuming you have Vista but if that is wrong let us know.

  • Using I DVD when I start burning the dvd the title goes right across the front of the dvd.

When burning a dvd in I DVD the title of the dvd suddenly appears right across the front of the dvd, obscuring the picture and not fitting etc.

What version of iDVD and what theme are you using? Is the problem happening after you burn the disc and play it back?
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Why won't my PowerMac G5 2.0Ghz Dual Boot Leopard DVD?

I have a PowerMac G5 currently running Tiger OS X. I turn on the Powermac and it runs perfectly fine. I insert the Leopard Install DVD, and the Powermac reads it fine. It opens the CD and I select to boot Leopard, and restart the Mac. Then, the Powermac restarts and the screen shows a gray screen with the Apple logo in the middle. No spinning wheel appears under the logo. I wait for about 5 minutes, then the fans start blowing really loud. I have left it like this for a while and nothing ever happens. What should I do? Is there another way to install leopard? How can I fix this issue? Thanks!

  • Why won't my hp pavilion all in one not play dvds or games?(It does play a game from 2000.)

Product Name: Hp Pavilion all in one I don't know the product number.
    Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
It says insert disc each time
    No upgrades before the issue

    Hi,
The following procedure will test if your PC can start from a bootable disc in the CD/DVD drive - the advantage of trying this is that it will rule out any possible Windows driver error as the CD/DVD drive is under the control of the Bios when starting the PC.  So if you find that the PC will not boot from the CD or DVD, then it's almost certainly a Hardware fault in the optical drive itself and it will need to be replaced.
Using another PC to create a Windows 7 Rescue CD and DVD.  Download the ISO from the link below.
    Windows 7 64bit
You need use an application such as ImgBurn to correctly burn the ISO to a CD and then also burn it to a DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  Once created, insert the CD and then restart the PC and see if it boots from this disc - if it does, let the first screen come up ( this will show repair options etc ) then just remove the CD, insert the DVD and restart the PC again to see if it will also boot from this disc.  If the PC will not boot from the CD, it may just load straight into Windows, in which case, just remove the CD, insert the DVD and restart to see if it will boot from this disc.
    Let me know.
    Regards,
    DP-K

  • Why Won't Apple Announce Fix for 'No disc burner...'

Odd that Apple won't post publicly what "Jeff" from iTunes support says is official fix for this error - downloading and installing 8.1.1. Anybody had problems with 8.1.1? Transcript of my discussions with iTunes support is below for your reading pleasure:

    Hi Rich,
Jeff, here from the iTunes Store. I understand that you are seeking "official" word from Apple. Now because the information given to me is directly from Apple, you can consider the resolution official. You can rest assured that the issue has been resolved with the release of iTunes 8.1.1.
I hope this clarifies your concerns, Rich. Thank you very much for being part of the iTunes Store family, and I hope you have a great weekend.

    Jeff:
Sorry. I guess I wasn't clear. I was asking for a link to this official news from Apple. If it is official, it seems like Apple should declare that publicly. My guess is that they probably have, but I can't find it.
Since I already have installed, removed and reinstalled the prior version so many times, I just want to see something from Apple first. Thanks again for your help.

    Hi Rich,
Jeff, here from the iTunes Store. Well I have great news for you today! Our engineers have released the official news that the issue you have been experiencing with CD burning has been resolved in iTunes 8.1.1. This being said, please install iTunes 8.1.1, which can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
Furthermore, I have issued an additional five song credits to your "[email protected]" iTunes Store account, for the inconvenience and your tremendous amount of patience and understanding. You can use these to buy the individual songs of your choice from the iTunes Store.
When you next sign in with this account, the song credits will appear by your account name (in the upper-right section of the iTunes Store). The next individual song you buy from the iTunes Store will use one of your song credits instead of your primary form of payment (until all credits have been used or have expired). Please note that song credits cannot be used for purchasing songs that are listed as "Album Only."
If you don't see your credits, refresh your account information by signing out and back in to the iTunes Store. You can find both "Sign Out" and "Sign In" within the pull-down "Store" menu. If you don't see this menu, you should need only download the latest version of iTunes from our website for free:

If you have any further questions or concerns, please let me know and I would be more than happy to address them for you. Thank you very much for being part of the iTunes Store family, Phil, and I hope you have a great day.

Thanks, but I am going to wait until Apple tells me it has discovered a solution to this problem caused by the previous version of iTunes. As you say, you have engineers working very hard on this now, so I am hoping this will not be much longer.

    Hi Rich,
Jeff, here from the iTunes Store. Wow, very sorry for the "Marlene" mixup, it's been a long day! In response to your question, our engineers have not released an official fix at this point. However, I don't like to see customer's unable to utilize the application to its full potential, and therefore I wanted to provide you with every last bit of information that may prove helpful.
I am not promising that upgrading to 8.1.1 will work, however some customer's have been able to resolve this issue by doing so, and therefore I felt I should pass the information along to you.
Once again, I apologize for the mixup Rich. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let me know and I would be more than happy to address them for you. Thank you very much for being part of the iTunes Store family, and I hope you have a great day.

Marlene? Not sure what that is about. Before installing 8.1.1, let me ask: Is this Apple's official fix, or have some people just coincidentally had some luck? I'd like to hear something officially from Apple.

    Hi Rich,
Jeff, here from the iTunes Store again! Now although this issue has not officially been resolved yet, I have some new information which may help. It appears that some customer's have been able to resolve this CD burning issue by downloading and installing the new release of iTunes 8.1.1. It can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
I would like to ask that you try downloading this new software, and then responding to this email to let me know how you make out! You may also be automatically prompted to upgrade to iTunes 8.1.1 when you open the iTunes Application, which will lead you through the same process.
I have retained your request to ensure that I receive your reply and can make sure this gets resolved for you, Marlene. Thank you very much for being part of the iTunes Store family, and I hope you have a great day.

    Jeff:
Thanks, but as you might imagine, I am reluctant to download another version of iTunes when the last one led to these problems. My CD-DVD burner doesn't work properly since the last download. In fact, I had just imported some old 8mm videos of the family, and was going to burn those to a DVD for my father-in-law's birthday. Couldn't get it working, though. It's too bad, because I had been considering replacing my five year old PC with an iMac. However, I could get this kind of functionality with Microsoft.

    Dear Rich,
Jeff, here from the iTunes Store. Please note that you still have full access to your purchased music, and can still transfer your purchases to an iPod if you have one. I am very sorry for the inconvenience, however Apple's engineers are working very hard towards a resolution for this issue.
I cannot offer a refund for the purchases you have made this year, however I have taken the liberty of issuing five complimentary song credits to your iTunes Store account "[email protected]".
When you next sign in with this account, the song credits will appear by your account name (in the upper-right section of the iTunes Store). Can anyone tell what this could mean? Is the drive old and tired? I have the latest possible update for this Powerbook G4 1,25 GHz that I can use. What is meant by the latest firmware - where can I check which is the latest firmware for this particular DVD/CD superdrive ...
I am not trying to use the impossible, the G4 only supports DVD-R and with the speed up to 2x, so it is getting difficult to find suitable DVDs for this. The better MacBook is being serviced, as it has a screen problem, only after 1 year of use!

    I would be grateful for

Actually, I found out that for this particular PowerBook model there is no further firmware upgrade for the SuperDrive, only for the models starting from 1.5 GHz. Obviously all I can do is downgrade my OS to the version, which I suspect was the one that still supported my SuperDrive to see, whether it is the Drive that has died or whether it is the conflict with the upgrades and the hardware.

  • DVD SP Dual Layer burning and DVD@ccess difficulties

I'm making my first dual layer project and I can't format from DVD SP 3 b/c I get this error message (see below). I burned the project in toast 6 and the project works fine in Macs except for the URL DVD a@cess link doesn't connect. (It works in my computer) The DVD 2nd layer doesn't work in some PC's. I"m using Verbatim + R DL Media. Can anyone give me some suggestions?
Can anyone explain this error message to me:
Formatting was not successful. Layer 1 cannot exceed Layer 0 for a OTP configured disc. Please choose a suitable marker location that will support this condition.

    Hey James
this particular error means that layer 1 is larger (as in size) to layer 0.
since we dont have enough details of your project, i cannot correctly tell you what to do.
i will ask you however, where did you set your layer break? tell us how much larger layer 1 is to layer 0. what will you be burning your image to, DLT, disc, hard drive? did you check the format properties and see where a suitable layer break can be? did you set layer break to automatic?
any help could give you a fast answer

  • Why won't my macbook pro not burn DVDs

I have all the software, it allows DVD+R. But it won't burn correctly.

What software are you using to burn a DVD? You can burn data DVDs directly from the Finder - if that will work for you then any other burning software should work as well. I use Toast Titanium and iDVD to burn DVDs (as well as Finder burns) and all work well for me.

  • DVD Player does not play a DVD

My DVD player can play commercial DVD without any problem.
I use a DVD Video Recorder to burn a DVD. I finalised it confirmed it can be played in my Windows PC PowerDVD version 6 OEM edition.
When I put it in my PBG4 superdrive, the DVD Player could be launched automatically. However, it says "Supported Disc Not Available". Checked Disc Region is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and my Drive is in Region 3 with 4 changes left.
    Any idea?
PowerBook G4 1.5GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   DVD Player App version 4.6.5, Framework version 4.6.6

If you burned a DVD-RW, the DVD Player might not recognize it. In this case, use a different brand of DVD-RW or a DVD-R disk.
