Why won't my pdf resume upload?

I am applying for a job that requires me to upload a resume in either pdf or rft formats as part of the online application. I designed and wrote my resume in Word (2003, SP3), opened Adobe Acrobat Pro (9.1.3), used the "Create" function to turn my Word file into a pdf, embedded the fonts, saved the pdf...then...on the employer's website, I received an error message when I tried to upload my pdf file (see copy of message below). After several tries on different computers, I finally spoke to a real person at this company who said my resume had too much formatting...they only have Version 8 (I assume that's Reader, not Acrobat), and I should remove some of the formatting and re-try. By the way, this person told me that the company has already received OVER 500 resumes successfully uploaded.
After many versions of my resume still would not upload, I completely stripped my resume. No bold, no underline, no tables, no columns, Tahoma font in 3 different sizes. This time, I saved the file as a Word Document and as in Rich Text Format, and converted both to pdf. Resume looks lousy...but at least it would upload. No such luck!!!! I got the same error message that I had received with all the formatting. Last night, I tried to upload the files using a friend's computer. I could open my pdf file in his Adobe Reader...no problem. Tried to upload...same error message. Finally decided to try uploading the rtf file. Worked perfectly, first try.
Although my rtf was successful, I would like to know why the pdf wouldn't upload. I assume if I can actually get the pdf upload to work, I'll be able to use at least some formatting to improve the look of my resume. I also have to upload Recommendation Letters, all of which are in pdf format.

Yoiu might try using Reduce File Size or the PDF Optimizer to save the PDF to an earlier version, like AA5 or AA6. Then try the upload. It may be that they are not allowing for newer versions of PDFs. Also be sure you have not used any fancy features of Acrobat in the PDF. I would create the PDF by printing to the Adobe PDF printer from WORD and not using PDF Maker. All of these steps should create a simpler PDF that may be what they are looking for.

I simply get the error saying: The document cannot be opened because it's not a valid pdf-document.
However I have no problems opening the file with my laptop, only my phone and tablet (Jellybean 4.2.2) won't open it.
My friends also have managed to open the file on their tablets (android/windows).
Have reinstalled and checked updates and tried other programs but none has worked for me.

Seems like the problem was in the web browser I was using, as the file just
didn't download correctly.

Why won't my profile picture upload?

I tried to upload my profile picture that is a 5.9MB JPEG. The photo is well within the file size limits, but it won't take and I am getting the "your photo is too big" message. What am I doing wrong?

Why won't Safari display altered uploaded files?

If I make some changes in my web page, some changes in CSS setting, and upload the page, it continues to display in the former format. However, if I check Firefox, the newly edited file appears just fine.
I tried repeatedly emptying the Safari cache, and even used Onyx to empty all browser caches, and of course repeatedly try reloading the page but it still does not update.
Does anyone know why this is so? Is there a solution?

You confused me a little here. Earlier you wrote:

Are you seeing changes made to CSS files when previewing in Safari ... or not? I might have read something wrong, but I had the impression you were saying previews in Safari show CSS changes, while previews online do not.
Also, I think there are two things happening and one is confusing the matter. Earlier you wrote:

My feeling was that this was a separate issue, not a problem with caching. (To my knowledge and in my experience, Safari never uses cached files when viewing files on the hard drive.) My thought was that this is a CSS conflict or syntax problem.
Test for the caching issue (in previews vs. online) with something obvious, rather than your padding style... something like a red border or a text style, so you'll be sure if it's there or not.

What is java? Why won't it let me upload video to Myspace? Who can I ask?

I have a Mac PowerBook G4 running OS X 10.3.9.
I ought to be able to upload mp4 files to my Myspace, but something called an applet won't load. I download something called Java again and again, then I download upgrades to it, but nothing works. Sometimes I'm instructed to download a Java for 10.4 which obviously won't run on my computer.
As a lifelong Mac user I'm obviously not used to these levels of counter-intuitiveness and user unfriendliness. I'm sorry. I don't know where I am now. I don't even know what Sun is. But some kind person out there might take pity?

Why Won't ICloud let me upload ANY files to Iwork section?

Ok so like many others, When I try to upload a file to Icloud (A pages File) I ALWAYS get an error "There was a problem uploading a doument. Please try again." No matter how many times I try, I get this error. What also ***** is it won't give me the cog in the upper right hand corner with the options to upload. My only choice is to drag and drop, which gives me the error. I created this account on an IOS5 Device (My friends, because I don't have one, I have a mac but can't enable the ICloud specifically on this mac). I do not plan to use ICloud to transfer between IOS devices and computer, only between computer and computer and store all my misc. pages files there. However, I should still be able to upload my IWord 09' documents, presentations, ect. When I go to the Iwork page, it encourages me to buy the programs, even though I already have them. Please can anyone tell me how to get it to upload my pages and keynote files?

I have it on my mac, but the one that doesn't let me setup icloud on it. So basically I need to enable the icloud on a computer or device that has pages, then it will let me upload pages anywhere? (thats kind of bull but I guess if it works). The only problem is my mac that is 10.7.5 is a laptop I'm provided with and for some reason the administrators decided to block the use of Icloud on it (The system prefrences not the website). It used to be fine till it updated and now it won't do it, just says sending request and then never does anything. Trying to upload a csv file.

Why won't my wi-fi upload

I was having issues with my router dropping the signal and files not syncing over the net. i used speedtest.net. Using my regular wi-fi connection i got a ping and download speed but it would not upload. I put in an ethernet cable and upload was fine. I tried speedtest on a friend's wi-fi and still could not get an upload. It seems my airport won't upload through wi-fi.

Why won't Photoshop PDF's read well on iPads?

At first, I thought it was specifically Safari on iPad that would not display vector data (such as text) from PDF's created with Photoshop CS6.
Then I installed Chrome on my iPad and got the same problem. Displays all the pixel data, but none of the vector (text).
Is this a known issue?
I am referring to PDF's created via Photoshop CS6's "Save As" at regular unmodified/default settings. The iPad is the most recent iPad 4. The Safari and Chrome versions are the latest as well.

You wrote that is not what is happening on you iOS system. You have used two browsers apples and googles and their PDF plugins and they do not seem to be working like you PC or Mac computers. The plugin operrate in iOS did you try iBook. The Web files served up by the Web servers are the same unless there is special HTML code that detect that your on a iOS moble device. If that code exist on the server may serve up something different for your iOS device then it does for you computers.

I am having similar issue. I need to store so I can transfer to PC to clear up memory on my 4s. I do know that if the administrator of PC has an iTunes account, certain functions will not work - like syncing music library from his library to mine. Must be the same all around. Why won't the PDF open from Webhelp

So... I am using RH10 to generate Webhelp. I am on Windows 7.
That said, I have a very small test project I am building for a presentation today. I have placed a special icon in my help that has an attached PDF file. The purpose is to have the user click the icon to display the PDF (also a very small file). However, I have tried setting it up as a hyperlink and via image map... and set it to open in a "new window". When I rollover the icon with the mouse, it changes to the hand cursor as if it knows it's hyperlinked. But, when I click or double click on the icon nothing happens.
What have I missed? HELP! This is due this afternoon for a meeting!

Unfortunately, things have gone from bad to worse... so here's what's
happening (or rather not happening).. even after making the security
setting as you state... and it's happening with chrome as well.. and yes..
I'm running it locally... we have to be able to run it locally for folks
that will be trying to access it without internet access... so here's the
full situation as it stands now:
IN WEBHELP:
1) PDF still isn't opening (it is set to open in New Window)
2) the video link i have to a quick vid on youtube IS working
3) the TOC, Index, and Search options aren't working - the nav pane is
showing up on the left, but it's empty.. and the search field is there, but
not working.
4) Image maps aren't working if set to go to a bookmark on the same page.
If the map is set to link to a different page it works fine... Just not if
the flag is on the same page (in dropdown text).
IN A CHM:
I tried generating a chm to see if the same issues occurred... here's what
happens:
1) PDF still isn't opening (it is set to open in New Window)
2) the video link i have to a quick vid on youtube IS working
3) the TOC, and Search options DO work, but Instead of an Index tab,
there's a Favorites tab and I can't see where I've missed setting the Index
up.

I'm having a hard time breaking habits set from working in Flare for over 5
years.... but I'm trying to remember and cover all bases, but I am

AA8 and Win7 Home Edition - why won't Adobe PDF Printer work?

Was running AA8 on my XP Pro laptop. Installed AA8 on my netbook running Win7 Home Edition. Can't print to Adobe PDF printer - well, the reality is that the system tells me it's printing, but it never opens Acrobat or Reader to ask me where I may want to file the PDF file! Troubleshooter tells me that I'm missing the AdobePDF.dll file and that it's on "the Windows Vista CD-ROM". Unfiortunately I've never had such a CD nor have I ever used Vista. How can I get AA8 to work on my netbook?

As suggested by the link, you are likely running a 64-bit system. You have to have at least AA8.1 for 64-bit systems. If you have just installed, you are likely running 8.0. Simply open Acrobat and go to Help>Updates and request the updates in order until they are all applied and then reboot. Also, be sure that AcroTray is running in the background (ctrl-alt-del and check the task list. Enter ESC to return or just close the window).

Why doesn't adobe PDF pack convert font jester when converting pub documents to pdf documents?

Why won't adobe PDF pack convert font JESTER from a pub to a pdf file? It converts the JESTER headings to font ARIAL instead. When I was using windows XP and Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional the conversion came across as JESTER like I wanted.
