Why won't my power Mac g5 turn on

Help?

2.3 & 2.7 Ghz models have liquid cooling.  Look for a leak of an oddly colored fluid on the rear and inside.
Check for poorly seated RAM or video cards making sure not to touch the internal parts with static electricity on your hands.   Touching the power supply with one hand should discharge any electricity if the machine is plugged in.  If not sure what is the power supply bring it in for service.
All models have a PRAM battery, make sure that's under 4 years old.  http://www.ifixit.com may be able to tell you what battery it is, or your user manual which can be found on the http://www.apple.com/support/ section on manuals.
Check the specs for power requirements by searching your model on Google with support.apple.com as part of your search, and make sure you aren't overloading the outlet.
Also look for melted capacitors on the motherboard, as that was a problem with some G5 motherboards.  Mostly it impacted iMacs, but it may have impacted some PowerMacs.

  • Why won't my Power Mac G5 not connect to my Wifi?

My Power Mac G5 will not connect to my Wifi. I have tried rebooting and other methods, and none seem to work. Any advice or tips would be much appreciated!

I had the same problem, my G5 didn't find any wireless network anymore.
After doing lots of trouble shooting as advised on various websites I finally had as last resort a look inside my G5 and sure enough I found one of the connections wasn't plugged in!
I normally don't use WIFI very often on my G5, so I can't pin point when it stopped, but having said this, I did have my G5 in the Apple store 3 months ago to get a new graphic card. Surely they would have seen the issue and fixed it at the same time, one assumes.
Anyway, after fiddling around for at least 30 minutes, because I have a Raid card installed and it's covering half of the wifi card, I finally managed to plug in the tiny button and voila the wireless network was working again.
To find out where your wifi card is, I found this service guide, explaining all the inside parts and where they are.

    Hope that helps somebody else.

  • Why won't my ipone charge or turn on?

why won't my ipone charge or turn on?
    <Edited By Host>

    Lets see, could be:
    faulty charger
    faulty cable
    faulty connector
faulty battery or other iPhone hardware
Without any details at all, it is impossible for anyone to say.  You could take it in and let an Apple Genius take a look at it to narrow it down to iPhone hardware or battery.

  • Power mac G5 turns on but will not boot up

    Hello,
I have the last power mac G5 quad core made before apple switched over to intel. I have not used he computer in about 3 month and it worked fine when I put it into storage but when I tried to turn it on today it will not boot up.
There is constantly a yellow light on near to where the RAM snaps in even when the computer is off. (this is the 3rd light up from the bottom and the only on that is on at this point)
When I press the power button a red light turns on for about one second. Next to this light are the words LED806 Checkstop and it is offset to the right of the other lights a little bit when looking into the side panel of the computer. This light also lights up briefly when I press the power button to turn off the computer.
After pressing the power button another red light turns on just above the yellow light that is always on and the screen is still black. Then the screen eventually turns grey with the apple logo as it normally looks except some of the pixels are off colored a bit in square patterns across the screen. When this happens a green light turns on just below the yellow light. Now there are three lights on all at once.
Next the screen briefly turns light blue and then a little darker shade of blue and the computer will not boot up or go any further than this point.
Can anybody tell me what is going on here and is there any way to fix this?
Is there any way to reset or reboot the computer this the install disk?
Distortion on the startup screen (hard to see in this photo)

    Hi Mike,
LED 1—CPU A:  red—contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider
LED 2—Overtemp:  red—contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider
LED 3—Power On:  red—the main power is on
LED 4—Trickle:  yellow—Power Mac G5 is plugged into the wall correctly
LED 5—Open Firmware good:  green—no problem
LED 6—CPU B:  red—contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider
LED 7—Checkstop:  red—contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider
Might be time to replace the PRAM Battery, 4 years is close to their lifespan, far less if ever without AC power, & can cause strange startup problems...

  • HT1939 how come my apple power mac g5 turns its self off when i try opening a page

can you help my apple power mac g5 desktop is truning its self off when ever i try openning a page.or going online.it had recently been updated with os x 10.5.8

    Hello,
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • Power Mac G5 turns on, but no power light

Today I turned on my G5 to recover some files off an old iMac hard drive (can't very well read HFS+ using Windows), and my G5 refused to boot. Your press the power button, the power light flashes normally when you press on the button, but it powers on but the power light never comes on and there isn't a "bong" sound. The fans come on normally, but after a while the fans start picking up speed until they are at full speed.
I tried swapping ram, no change. Pulling ram, no flashing lights, pulling air deflector shield, full speed fans and red light (tells me something is working at least), swapping the video card, pulling the video card and still nothing. The 17" Studio Display power button works to turn on the system, but it has no light either saying the computer is on.
Based on the full speed fans after a while, I'm willing to say I have a failed processor, but that is just a wild guess as I don't normally work with Macs (although I do want an Intel Mac, but they cost more than my mom makes in a month).
The system is a Dual 2 GHz Power Mac G5 with 2 gigs ram, 80 GB hard drive, Plextor PX-712A DVD burner (I got this with a DVD-ROM), stock Radeon 9600 Pro and an Airport Extreme card. It runs Mac OS 10.5.8 and has worked great up until today.

Hi, the fans going full speed is just a safety feature when no OS loads to check & control them.
Well, especially since it seems it's been off for awhile...

  • Why Won't My I Mac G5 Start Up?

I'm having an intermittent problem starting my I Mac G5. I press the start up button and no go. I try and try, unplug the cable, purchased a new cable, done everything I can think of and nothing works. Then suddenly it will start. I thought it might be the cable because once when I jiggled it the computer started up. I decided that I'll take it to the shop when it won't start anymore at all because I fear that if I take it in when it's intermittent they might not find the problem.
Does anyone know what other reasons could cause this sort of start up issue?
The machine in question is several years old and it's a G5 I Mac, 1.6 GHz PowerPC G5, not the Model listed below which is a newer machine and thankfully starts up just fine.

For me, it turned out to be a bad power supply. $60+ plus $38 labor at the local Apple store. If it's the switch, good for you. My Mac was running forever. I shut it down and moved it to another room in the house. When I went to start it, it wouldn't respond to my button press. Took to to the Apple store and had a Genius look at it. He tried resetting something by holding down the power button for a long while. That didn't work. Ended up leaving it for a power supply replacement. I wasn't going to pay for more than that...

  • Why won't a new Mac Mini won't boot?

It will boot to the point of the power light being on, the screen is white with the gray apple and the pinwheel is spinning...but that is it! I have reset the NVRAM, the PRAM, and the SMU. Is there anything else I can do?

It maybe the hard disk is corrupted. You could try booting to the special Restore partition by holding down the letter R when you turn on your Mac and then running Disk Utility to check and repair the hard disk directory.
A similar but different method is to hold down Command and S when you turn on the Mac, this boots in to a special single user mode and if successful you can then type the command
    /sbin/fsck -fy
and then press return, this is an alternative way to again check and repair the hard disk directory.
Worst case, you would again use R when booting to get in to the Restore partition, but then reformat the drive, and then restore from your backup. (You do have a backup?)

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    10.4 instructions...
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

  • Why won't iphone sync mac address book contacts?

I've got an IP4 and a MAC G5 both with most recent software updates.  At around the turn of 2012 I started "losing" new contacts from my phone,  It transpired that the phone and computer were conflicting some how and contacts were not being updated or synced. When I tried to manually input these new details to Address I am told that the Database could not be opened as it is corrupted.
    How do I resolve this?

Okay, if Entourage is syncing to iCal fine, then the problem is not with Entourage, but with the iPhone. (How sync works--Entourage sends it to a central location, and the iPhone and iCal pick it up from there. So you know E'rage is getting it to the central location fine, but for some reason the iPhone is not picking it up).
In which case things like reset/restore the iPhone might help (read the iPhone manual on troubleshooting and on syncing, and backup the iPhone, and export iCal and E'rage data to an archive before futzing around too much). Reset/Restore are different from a one-way sync that overwrites data, which you might try first---I think you can tell it just overwrite a certain type of data--the settings are down at the very bottom of the Info panel in iTunes 8.
However, since E'rage should be irrelevant to the problem, you should also search/ask re general syncing problems with the iPhone.

  • Why won't my led flash after turning it on in accesibility?

Turned on LED Flash for Alerts under accessibility and it worked great for a few days and now it's stopped.  What happened?   What can I do to get it to blind again when i get calls or notifications?

Never mind. I saw this in the forums after I submitted my question:
"hey everyone. try this before you make trips to the store. turn off the light in your settings and reset your phone. (hold power and home until the apple logo comes up). then when the phone has started back up, turn the light on again and test it ! ( send yourself a text and turn off your screen. you should get the flash when you receive your msg!)
keep in mind though it doesnt flash until you have your screen off.
i think the light must glitch out if you change the flash settings in your camera- and the program requires a restart. hopefully apple fixes this bug (:"
Did this and it worked =)
