Why won't my prject fit on one DVD

I am trying to put a wedding reception that is 3.38 GB onto a DVD using DVD Studio Pro 2. But when I put it in a menu and try to print it says that the disc can't hold 5 GB of info. Why is it so much? The disc claims to hold up to 6 hrs in ep mode. Why can't I do that? How can they fit King Kong on one DVD and I can't fit this wedding reception? Please help, the project is long overdue and I can't figure this out.
What's even weirder is that when I create a separate for buttons DVD Studio Pro tries to put the same file on the disc TWICE meaning that that huge 3.38 GB file is being burned twice. Why? It shouldn't have to do that. Please help, I'm desperate.

What is the total length of your video in minutes?
What is your average bit rate for encoding the video?
How long have you been working with DVD SP?
What "disc claims to hold up to 6 hrs in ep mode?"
There is no ep mode for DVD authoring.
King Kong is encoded on a DL disc, not a DVD 5.

  • Size of all clips in iMovie that will fit on one dvd burned by iDVD

I have a lot of iMovie clips that I'm putting into one iMovie project. I know that at some point, the clips will not fit on one dvd, and that I'll have to split it up into different iDVD burns. Is there a way to know the maximum number of iMovie clips (size in MB, I presume) that, after being sent to iDVD, will (just) fit on one dvd? Trial and error is removing a clip, saving the iMovie project, sharing to iDVD, trying to burn, being told there is not enough space, then starting over with removing another clip - that is taking too long.

    Hi
on SL-single layer DVDs - about four hours on DL if Your Mac can burn them
To get even more - Roxio Toast™ - can squees in may be up to ten hours
BUT - TO a quality near not usably. Quality invers to amount of material.
    also encoding method is limiting
iDVD 08 & 09 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above

  • How do I know if it will fit on one DVD?

So I am working on a DVD project (My first one) and I have about 12 movies that are about 20-25 minutes each in .avi format. The total size for all of these movies is about 3.07 GB.
How do I know if iDVD will be able to fit all of these movies on one DVD? Does it go by the 60min rule regardless of file size, or will all twelve movies be able to fit on one DVD? a DVD golds 4.7Gb of information right? So it should fit theoretically, but it is almost 3.5 hours of video.
Is there a fill bar or something within iDVD that can estimate how much space I have left for a DVD based upon the images, menus and movies I add to a project? I dont seem to find one in the iDVD project window and the Help file did not turn anything up.

The size (MB or GB) of the input files doesn't matter to iDVD. What matters is the length (in time).
iDVD renders/compresses/multiplexes your video into MPEG2 format which is the format of a playable DVD. With a single-layer DVD you can fit up to 2 hours of content (video, titles, etc.); with a dual-layer DVD you can fit up to 4 hours of material. iDVD will make choices of how to render your video depending on your quality choices in iDVD Preferences.

  • Why won't these videos fit on a 120min 4.7Gb disc?

There have been situations in which when I am using 120 min 4.7GB DVD+R discs, that iDVD tells me that the video/videos I insert onto a project exceeds the macimum duration of the disc. It doesn't make any sense when I drop a 1 hour and 30 min.,700mb .avi movie onto a project and it tells me that. Why is this happening?

iDVD mpg-2 compresses everything. The size of your raw content in MB isn't significant - what IS significant is the running time in minutes. iDVD can put up to 60 minutes of content on a single-layer disc in 'Best Performance' encoding mode or up to 120 minutes ion the 'High Quality' of 'Professional Quality modes.
BTW, 4.7 GB is the advertising capacity in decimal form; as far as a computer is concerned, the capacity is 4.37 GB.

  • Edited custom buttons - why won't C5 import the new ones?

    Hi
I have successfully created new next, home and back buttons and did the up, over and down states.
Captivate 5 picked them up and all seemed fine. I looked again and saw the back seemed to get bigger when it was 'over' the home moved to the left.
I created new buttons as png, making sure they were absolutely the same size in up down and over, and moved them into the buttons folder in Gallery, as before.
I did click on the folder to pick up the new buttons. And I deleted the old buttons before moving new into the 'buttons' folder.
    I even cleared cache.
But Captivate still does the same!
    Still next gets bigger etc.
I have redone twice now - what can I do?
Thanks for any light on this!

    Hi there
My own guess is that Captivate 5 is working pretty much as 4 and earlier did, even though it's a totally new beast.
I'd be willing to bet a dollar against a donut that if you created a button in a totally new project and used those images, things would work just dandy. Captivate generally caches things like that inside the project and that's why you aren't seeing them update.
Probably the only way you will coax them to work in your existing project will be to use a slight variation of file names for the images. Because they will be different file names, Captivate will think they are entirely different images.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Why won't my charger fit in my iPhone 5

  • Why won't my macbook pro not burn DVDs

I have all the software, it allows DVD+R. But it won't burn correctly.

What software are you using to burn a DVD? You can burn data DVDs directly from the Finder - if that will work for you then any other burning software should work as well. I use Toast Titanium and iDVD to burn DVDs (as well as Finder burns) and all work well for me.

  • Why won't my USB Superdrive take my dvd?

I have tried to put a disc into my USB Superdrive, but all it does is make a weird noise and spit it out. The disc contains files, and if I try it with a dvd it does not happen. It is not urgent. But I would like to know why it happens.
    THANK YOU!!!

The your supredrive has failed. If it is still covered by a warranty take it to an Apple store to be diagnosed and replaced or if you have no warranty on it just buy any brand external DVD drive that connects by USB port. That is any brand. It does not have to have the Apple name on it for it to work on your Mac.

  • SOLVED: Why won't Satellite 4090XCDT not boot with DVD-R/W drive?

    Hi,
as I stated in the other thread which has been closed already, I purchased an used Satellite notebook which would not boot from the 3rd Party DVD-RW drive (Quanta Storage SDW-042) included, even though Windows could it read well enough.
I found out why, starting with the help of the user replies in the other thread.
In the user manual there is a description in the capitel about system configuration regarding tconfig, which proved to be a valuable hint: HDD = Primary IDE (1F0H/IRQ14) (...), CD-ROM = Secondary IDE (170H/IRQ15). Compared to my desktop, it seemed to me that both drives should be masters on Cable Nr. 1 and Cable Nr. 2, not like Master and Slave on the same HDD Cable. So, my CD-ROM probably had to be Master.
Then I researched further into the matter and found out, that there are CD-ROM where cable select choses if they are master or slave. Then I found in
http://www.dschen.de/laptop_brenner/ a remark that in his Toshiba Satellite Pro 4290, there seemed to be no Cable Select and his notebook expected the CD-ROM (or the DVD drive he wished to use) to be a master.
Cable select means that Pin 47 is grounded, which he did by applying a drop of solder from Pin 47 to Pin 49, which is besides Pin 47. I tried the same and took apart the DVD drive which was in my Notebook. (My record in taking apart my notebook and mounting everything again correctly now has gone down to 50 minutes). And know what, my Satellite 4090XCDT now can boot from the DVD RW!
To perform the task I needed a watchmaker's screwdriver to open the DVD RW (three screws, and then you must insert a pin to open the tray and see the plug from the backside), a 12 Volt pin type soldering iron for SMD and I controlled the solder bridge with a stereo microscope, so this task is not trivial. See the mentioned link to find out which pins are bridged (sorry, the website is in german but the Pic is clear: in the upper row of pins, the only you can see, the 2nd and third from the right). And of course with a replacement part "from the scrap", you might grant your notebook a second life but you run a risk, because you can not know what you have, master or slave (by firmware or hardware), broken anyway, cable select - and another website states that they have watched up to 17 firmware variants in exactly the same drive, depending on what notebook it was intended for use.

Wow, thats really interesting posting, buddy!
    Thank you! :)
I will save this thread in my Bookmarks.

  • Why won't my MacBook Pro play my DVDs?

I've had my MacBook Pro since Dec 25, 2013. (It's the mid 2012 version) And I haven't tried using the DVD player until today. For some reason, I tried putting a DVD in the disk drive but it won't accept it. I tried pushing the DVD in, but I didn't want to get it stuck. What's the problem?

The drive is either faulty or there is a disc in it. Hold down the Eject button on the keyboard to eject the disc that is in there. If that fail try restartiing the system and hold down, click and hold, the trackpad. If that fails to eject a disc or there is no other disc in the drive them you need to take the system to an Apple store to be checked out and fixed under the warranty.

With iDVD you will need to create a QT movie file in iPhoto by exporting the slideshow using the Export button at the bottom. Select size = Medium or Large.  Next create an iDVD project and drag the QT file into the iDVD menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
If the playing time of the QT movie and menus is more than 1 hour but less than 120 minutes set iDVD's Porjects preferences to Encoding: Professional Quality.
Follow this workflow to help ensure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Why won't my Macbook Pro recognize a DVD-R?

    Hiya,
I have a recently-burned DVD-R in perfect condition (no scratches or anything) that my Macbook Pro refuses to recognize.  I put the disk in, and just get an error message saying "The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer".
    Any thoughts?

Is it really burned? I've had some false burnings, where the media is left blank. Look at it with bright light at an angle: should be evident by a slight change of shine if burnt.
If yes, does it read in other equipment? The optical system may be dirty; pick up a DVD cleaner disk at the local music or computer store, the dry kind that has tiny bristles on the "business end" that clean the lens.
Have you tried resetting the PRAM? I sometime had to do that on my previous and now dead '08 MBP.

  • Why won't a TV series burn to DVD

Have bought a TV series called Black Books. Downloaded it then added to a playlist and burn to DVD. Does not seem to play. How to fix this please for someone with no understanding

I seen that happen when the system resources have not kept pace with the project or automatically generated files?
What is the computer operating system that you are running Premiere Elements 10 on? At this point, can you still burn to folder if not disc?
Have you checked the Adobe Folder for pile ups of preview files and conformed audio? Have you cleaned out the conformed video files via Edit Menu/Preferences/Media? Have you run a regular and registry cleaning (computer optimizing) program such as ccleaner?
Another aspect is the nature of the Timeline content? Have you expanded the Timeline with the -+ slider above the Timeline to get a good look at the track situation, especially searching for thin vertical black lines scattered about the track content and any other irregularities with regard to Timeline menu marker spacing, transitions, and such? You could give some details on how many menu markers and what kind and where placed and how much space between?
How large is this project? When you get to the burn dialog what does the Quality Area show for Space Required and Bitrate? What type of DVD are you using? Can I assume that your project preset is NTSC DV Standard and you are burning your Timeline content to DVD-VIDEO Standard on DVD disc (4.7 GB/120 min)?
What is the duration of your Timeline content? How many main menu pages, how many scene selection pages?
Let us start here and see where your answers lead us.
    Thanks.

  • How to fit an iMovie project in one DVD

How can I tell if an iMovie Project will fit in one DVD using iDVD?

If it's just under 2 hours long ..it'll fit. (If it's just under 1 hour long it'll fit, and possibly appear to have slightly higher quality.)
iDVD compresses video for duration, rather than anything to do with file size.

  • IMovie file size too large for one DVD

I've created my iMovie file and am ready to burn a DVD using iDVD to view on TV. Although my iMovie is only about 35 minutes, it is 7.73 GB. It is a simple movie. I only have a few titles, cross dissolves between clips and some audio.
How do I reduce my iMovie to fit on one DVD?
I don't have the option to "Export" under the "File" menu. And I've tried several of the "Share" formats which reduce the size, but none of them have given me TV viewing quality.
I am using iMovie HD 5 and the movie is widescreen.
    Thanks!

iDVD encodes (compresses) the video before burning
the DVD, so there's no problem. Your iMovie project
    will fit.
The iDVD capacity is best expressed in time instead
of size. iMovie 4/5 can include up to 2 hours of
video. A little less, counting iDVD features.

    Hi Karl
I have an iMovie file that is 3hr and 10min long. I have a dual layer burner and dual layer DVD's to burn onto. Will this file fit onto the 8.5GB disc? or do I have to compress it somehow? If there is some software that will do this could you let me know?
The dual layer DVD's say they will fit 215 min of video on them, so why does it reject my file when starting iDVD?
    Thanks for your help
