Why won't my rMBP late-2013 model charge?

This just started happening in the last 24 hours and it's almost like my MacBook refuses to be charged by my cable or my father's cable. Is anyone else experiencing this?
LED light on charger does not turn amber or green. However, when I plug the cable in, my screen brightness increases but my battery level says "Battery is not charging."
Help?

If it doesn't work, there's a problem with your battery or the MagSafe port. As your MacBook is in warranty, make a backup of your files with Time Machine and take the MacBook Pro to an Apple Store or reseller to get it replaced or repaired free of charge

  • This is what worked for me to install 8.1 Pro on brand new rmbp late 2013 NO WORKAROUND

15 in rmbp, late 2013. Extrernal apple USB drive. USB key for bootcamp drivers. Brand new windows 8.1 pro full version from store. No Upgrade.
Used Bootcamp assistant to 1) save drivers to usb key 2) partition drive to two. Left usb key and drive connected.
Bootcamp assistant reboots mac, windows splash screen. Follow instructions including having to reformat the newly created partition which is usual. No bootcamp parttionn name is present but it should be obvious which is the OSX and Windows partition. Windows begins installing then fails. rmbP is stuck.
Restart nothing, just grey screen. Call apple care. Have to PRM, press on, hold command option P and R keys.Release when apple beep starts. Then it will boot back into OS-X
Boots into osx. Go to bootcamp assistant. Follow instructions and windows partition is removed to give a single OSX parttion. Reopen bootcamp assistant. Repartition. leave USB key and external drive attached. Restart and follow instructions as before. NO issues.
Note, the "almost ready" splash screen hangs for a long time.
Then bootcamp installer comes up. Build 5411.NVIDA driver installed etc. Auto resart after drivers installed. USB drive and key attached. WIndows splash screen. SUCCESSFULLY installed.
OI can also hold down option now on restart to sleect which OS to boot into . WORKS GREAT.
I suspect you have to do a PRM reset after first failure using bootcamp assistant to get it to install properly thereafter.
After I did this I was able to install fine using bootcamp installer in OS-X. No need for ANY work arounds.

This process worked for me on a new Mac Pro (early 2014) to get Windows 8.1 (not 8.0) installed, although I did make one slight change to the process: instead of following your advice at the point: "Restart and follow instructions as before", I instead restarted and used the windows partitioner dialog to 1) delete the bootcamp partition, and 2) create a new partition that was slightly smaller than the remaining available space (by about 1GB). The installer said it might need to create an additional small partition (which it did). I continued with the rest of the install process as you describe above. (Yes, it did take a long time to get past the "almost ready" part.)
Thank you very much for your post!

Hello. On my MacBook Air late 2013 model I am having a problem with Microsoft office word for Mac where the window for the document becomes all gray and I can not see anything that I have typed or any menus for it and also windows will sometimes dissapear and I am having truble getting them back. If anyone has anyideas of what is going on or could even help me thank you.

    Glad that helped.
As time goes by (months or years), keep your eyes on how long Microsoft continues to support Office 2011 for Mac.  Eventually you should consider Office 365 or Apple's Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

  • Glitch at shutdown? Macbook pro retina display late 2013 model

    Hi,
I have the late 2013 model of the macbook pro retina display. Since the past few weeks, I've been noticing a glitch at shutdown. This started to happen after my macbook asked me for my keychain password. How can I fix this glitch?
Before the whole keychain password: My mac would take a good 30 seconds to turn off properly. There would be a grey screen for a good 30 minutes.
After the whole keychain password: My mac just shuts off in a second literally but the grey screen doesnt appear. These a glitch. You can see the dock trying to go down at shutdown but because of the glitch it just stays there.
How can I fix this? Should I get it checked out?

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. Ask for the glitch specialist.

  • Only one of my fans are working on my macbook pro retina 13 inch late 2013 model. Is something wrong?

It appears that only one of my fans are working on my macbook pro with retina display 13 inch late 2013 model. Is some thing wrong? if so how can i fix it?

To my knowledge there is only one fan on all 13" Mac notebooks, Retina or standard screen. Not enough space for a second fan and no Discrete GPU to cool.
    So nothing is wrong.

  • Fan like noise - Macbook Pro Retina 13 inch - late 2013 model

If I open Frontline Commando (game app) my brandnew Mackbook pro make fan like noise. (annoying and scary) Could anyone advice please?
    my sys configuration:
Model - Macbook Pro Retina 13 inch - late 2013 model
    RAM - 8 GB
    Processor - 2.4 GHz intel core i5
    OS - OS X 10.9.1

Normal during gaming use, fan noise.
A: you notice it more in a quiet room (the typical case) which is normal, all is AOK
B: fuzz and dust has caked onto the blades causing the fan hub to get off balance and make a buzzing sound.
C: fan rotor is going bad and making a whirring or buzz noise (rare).
D: Fan is spinning up due to excess heat from gaming, heavy graphics gaming (typical, all is OK)
    A and D are normal
    B and C are not.

  • How can I tell the MacBook Pro with 13-in retina that I purchase is the late 2013 model from the box?

I'm wondering how I can tell the differences between the late 2013 model and the early 2013 model of MacBook Pro with 13-inch retina from the box?

You can enter the serial number in the appropriate field on a web site such as this and it will tell you what model it is:

  • 13" rMBP Late 2013 Warm Palm Rest

    Hi,
This is my second 13" rMBP Late 2013 (i5 2.4GHz, 8GB DDR3, 256GB SSD, Retina 13"). I exchanged the first one only to get a US keyboard instead of French Canadian. On the first one, I never noticed the warm palm rest... on my new one, it feels quite warm, especially on the left side. iStat says the palm rest is at 32C when idle, and during a stress test (100% CPU), it got to 35C. Reviews talk about 28C idle and 32C at full load.
Is it often like this or I should exchange it? Am I the only one with this issue?

that is normal when playing games or doing other intensive things on a mac.  It wont damage it, the mac would shut off before it started to get so hot it might cause damage.

  • Fonts pixelated on 15" MBP Retina (late 2013 model)

I recently purchases a 15" MacBook Pro Retina (late 2013 model).  I've notice that the font in some programs look pixelated.  Is this a known issue?  Under System Preferences, I've already attempted to change the resolution from "Best for display" to "Scaled."  Any suggestions to ensure that I see the best on screen (since I paid extra for the Retina feature!)
    Thanks!

    Howdy jimkol,
The video resolutions supported by your MacBook Pro are described here -
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) - Technical Specifications
    Specifically -
Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on up to two external displays, both at millions of colors
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Brett L

  • HT203207 I put my MacBookPro Retina late 2013 to charge at night. In the morning when I got up my MBP was still connected to the power outlet. While I just stood I saw a spark at MBP where it connected to Magsafe. MBP 100% charged. No more charging now.

While I just stood I saw a spark at MBP where it connected to Magsafe. I immediately disconnected the MBP but I found it 100% charged. However now its not charging anymore. No light glowing on Magsafe 2 connector. I also tried different electrical outlet but issue persists.

  • Swapping storage drive between 13 and 15 inch retina macboks? (both late 2013 models)

Hey all, i have two macbook pro retinas, one 13" 1TB late 2013 and one 15" 500GB late 2013.
Question is can i swap the hard drives out between each other? purely on a hardware level here.
Would they be compatible with with the logic board seeing as they are both same models only different sized display?
I have a time machine backup of both drives and would plan on restoring each once swapped over.
    Thanks in advance all!

You might check if something is available at OWC, but if not there is nothing that can be done. Those models do not use standard HDDs or SSDs.
You're always welcome to take it to the Apple Store and ask if they would be able to upgrade the smaller one, but typically Apple does not permit that.

  • Why does my Mac Pro late 2013 drive both monitors with one GPU?

System report shows both of my WQHD monitors are running on one GPU.  When I add an HDMI display, it also runs on the same GPU.  Why would it not split the load?  This makes me wonder about when both GPUs are working, if ever.  Since Activity Monitor does not report GPU activity, does anyone know of an app that gives real-time reports on GPU usage?

If you add six displays, they will all be supported by one GPU -- the display GPU. The second GPU is reserved for un-interrupted GPU computing and has no Display output Hardware.
Anandtech has a discussion of this in his review of the late 2013 Mac Pro.
Under OS X the situation is a bit more complicated. There is no system-wide CrossFire X equivalent that will automatically split up rendering tasks across both GPUs.
By default, one GPU is setup for display duties while the other is used exclusively for GPU compute workloads. GPUs are notoriously bad at context switching, which can severely limit compute performance if the GPU also has to deal with the rendering workloads associated with display in a modern OS. NVIDIA sought to address a similar problem with their Maximus technology, combining Quadro and Tesla cards into a single system for display and compute.
