Why won't my serial number be displayed?

I'm getting ready to sell my MacBook and I tried to get the serial number for buyer's purposes and under the System Profiler where the Serial Number section is all it says is SystemSerialNumb.
This is weird because on my other Macs it has the actual serial number. How could I figure out the serial number and why isn't it being displayed here?

Your welcome. Thanks for the it is appreciated.

First be sure it is a serial number and not a redemption code. The serial number will have 24 digits (no letters) beginning with 1057. If that's not what you have, here's how to use a redemption code to obtain a serial number:

  • Why won't my serial number work?

I'm trying to set up adobe photshop cs5 extended (student and teacher edition) and my serial number will not work.  It will take the numbers but not the letters so when i try to type it in I'm leaving two serial number boxes open and i can't move on.  I really need help with this because i don't know what to do and I need this in order to do homework for my college classes.

Can you ensure that you are trying to enter the correct number? For more information, see http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/152/tn_15290.html

  • Why won't my serial number activate my software?!

Having trouble with my serial number as it is not activating my CC which I have paid for. Help please!

CC 2014 does not need serial number, it is based on Adobe ID. If the payment is up to date & CC is active then you should not be asked for serial number.
Please refer to Creative Cloud applications ask for serial number
I don't know which operating system you are working on so i am giving you some steps windows and MAC OS:
      Windows:
In windows 7 navigate to following location:
         /windows/system32/drivers/etc
       1. look out for "Hosts" file
       2. Open it with notepad
       3. Check if you have any entry for Adobe
       4. Remove the entries and try again launching any product from CC
      Mac:
       1. Please click on "Go" and navigate to /private/etc
       2. Open "hosts" file and check out for any entries for Adobe.com
       3. Remove the entries and save the file
       4.  try again launching any product from CC

  • Why is my MBP serial number and model year no longer displayed in "about this mac" (have NOT replaced logic board)?

I have not replaced or manipulated the logic board (or any other hardware) on my mid-2012 13 inch MBP. Under the "about this mac" tab, the serial number is no longer displayed (it now states "unavailable") and the model year is also no longer displayed. I understand that I can find the serial number and model year several other ways, I am seeking to determine why this happened and if it could indicate further problems.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
Thank you in advance for any help or insight.
    JB

Man oh man. What a day. New symptoms again!
Lets start with the MBP dying in its sleep. I closed my MBP and left it for a few hours to come back to find it completely dead. Looked into this issue and with the help of the activity monitor cleaned up some things, turned off some sharing settings, got rid of some extensions, etc. Seems to have solved this issue.
Later on, I picked up my MBP while it was on with my left hand and the same display (horizontal lines), freeze, auto shutdown happened. Out of curiosity I tried to recreate the symptom. Sure enough, pressing (with little force) on the left side of the bottom case caused it to happen again. I researched this a bit and found several possible culprits (bad logic board, metallic sticker may cause shorts, bad RAM bank, google drive). The google drive one really surprised me, I removed google drive (worked for many people) and it did not fix the issue. A buddy had some good RAM for me to use today so I swapped it out and had the same issue. Decided to test the individual RAM banks and it turns out that the deepest bank must be faulty. Running with only one 4 gig stick in the outermost bank and the freeze, shutdown, beep issue is gone!
So, it seems I have fixed the dying in sleep problem and have a temporary work-around for the bad RAM bank. The SN issue remains.
I am going to try to find out what could make a RAM bank be faulty and if there is a way to repair it.
What are the chances that all this happens as soon as I try to find out why the SN is unavailable??

  • Why isn't the serial number for my appletv 1st gen displayed in itunes

Iv'e noticed that in itunes 12 the serial number for my first generation appletv is no longer displayed. I also can no longer sync purchased movies to the apple tv.
I've tried relinking to the library, signing out and in of itunes store, and finally i did a factory reset. itunes does sync some of my music, but i still have some problems with certain files saying that they aren't compatible.

this is a user helping user forum so I would not wait around for somebody at apple giving you a reply
but one thing is that hd movies from itunes will likely not sync because the atv2g did 720p 30fps rather then 1g's 720 24fps and later appletv's do 1080p 30fps which of cause the 1g Apple TV can't play

  • Had CS4 on Power PC Mac (Non Intel) Now have new iMac and trying to install CS6 but won't accept serial number

Had CS4 on Power PC Mac (Non Intel) along with prior Photoshop versions. Now I have new iMac and trying to install CS6 but it won't accept my original serial number (Starts with PSW401, etc.).

I know what you are saying. I had purchased the CS5.5 upgrade, and a week later got the CS6 upgrade. I did this back in 2012. I had a old Mac Power PC which does not allow you to install CS5.5 or CS6 because it was not an intel processor. So even though I had the upgrades I never installed them. I waited until my old MAC died which it did this past weekend. And now that I have a new iMac I tried to install the new software. All of my past upgrades referenced my original Photoshop that was still resident on my old Mac. But since the install no longer has that reference because of the new computer, it will not accept any of my past serial numbers that it needs for the install.

  • Why does my cs5 serial number not qualify for an upgrade?

I input the serial number for my cs5 product in order to quality for the adobe customers special and it doesn't qualify. Any idea why? I wanted to chat with an Adobe representative but was only given the forum as an option.

What KIND of CS5 do you have... regular or volume license or OEM that came with a computer or education or ???

  • Why is my system serial number different from what Apple has?

my system serial# W87****UX but Apple says it's MA5****x/A. anyone know why?
    <Edited by Host>

You're doing fine..... now I took your serial number (before the hosts obliterate it) and input it here:
    http://support.apple.com/specs/
    and got this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP28
You'll see several different ones listed; one of them has your model number....
Edit: good thing I did the above before the hosts got to your post - your serial number is no longer recognizable....

  • CS4 Web Premium Acrobat won't accept serial number

Acrobat 9 keeps asking for a serial number and doesn't accept the CS4 serial number. I upgraded from CS3WP and all the other applications work fine. I hate to reinstall again because that means reinstalling CS3 and CS4... any ideas?
    MBP 15" (late 2007) 2.6Ghz, 4GB RAM running 10.5.5

Bob - it seems that Adobe support don't provide much help either.  After taking about half an hour to grasp the situation, the support rep I spoke to suggested wiping CS4, running the clean script, running Windows Installer Cleanup, and then reinstalling everything - a good eight hours work when we have better things to do.
The best method is to uninstall Acrobat using its own .msi file: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Setup Files\{some-random-string}\AcroPro.msi - rick-click in Windows Explorer, select uninstall, and reboot when its done.
Then use the CS4 disks to reinstall Acrobat (it will be down towards the bottom of the component list), run another CS4 application to update the registration data (which will happen automatically if the rest od CS4 is still activated) and then Acrobat will behave itself.
However, it has to be sad that this particular registration system is very counterproductive, as can be seen by searching this forum of online. Why not just provide the Acrobat key with the software and save customers all the hassle?

  • Aperture won't accept serial number on new iMac

Got a new iMac and copied over everything from the old G5 and the ONLY application that won't work is Aperture! It asks for the install product serial number - I enter it and it says it's invalid! I've done everything the 'installing professional products' troubleshooting thingy says and it still won't execute. It's frustrating when you have the original serial number and you're the only owner and it's your new machine and you can't get Apple software to work and you have jobs waiting to be done.
Any helpful suggestions besides buying Adobe products instead of Apple's?
    thx
    Greg

    Call Apple support, 1-800-SOS-APPL.
On a long term basis for heavy graphics apps users IMO the healthiest approach by far with new boxes is to do clean new installations of applications rather than "migrating."
As to switching to Adobe apps to make transfers easier, I have been using Adobe apps for many years, many upgrades (currently the Premium Design Suite of apps), and over the years I have almost always ended up with call(s) to Adobe Customer Support to make app upgrades work. Copy protection is a pain, Apple or Adobe.

  • Aperture won't take serial number after transfer to new computer

I used the Migration Assistant to move from an old computer to a new one.  Now Aperture asks for a serial number and it won't take the one I have.  It's the orginal number that came with the software.

Pro Apps like Aperture don;' take to being installed that way. You'd be best to re-install it from the media you received it on (I'm assuming you didn't get it from the App Store as you mentioned a serial number).
If you don;' have the original media you can download the trial version and use the serial number you have to authorize it.

  • Why won't the Thunderbolt port (Mini Display) on a 2011 MacBook Pro drive a DVI Display?

I'm trying to use a MonoPrice 5106 Mini Display to DVI adapter and a DVI cable to drive an Acer H233H 23" HD display.  I'm driving it from the Thunderbolt Port (Mini Display) on a 2011 MacBook Pro.  It doesn't work.  I use a similar MonoPrice adapter (5311) to drive the HDMI input on this monitor from the Thunderbolt port and it works fine.
I can drive the DVI input on the Acer display from an older iMac using a MonoPrice 4851 Mini-DVI to DVI adapter and this same DVI cable and it works just fine.
So, why won't it work from the MacBook Pro?  Do I need the much more expensive Monoprice 6904 dual link DVI adapter ($69)?  Why isn't this mentioned in the MacBook Pro manual or on the MacBook Pro support page?  MonoPrice says this 5106 adapter should work and if not to try the more expensive 6904 adapter.  Need a better reason to buy the more expensive adapter.
    Help please.
    Thanks,
    Vee

Just saw your question.  Just like it's Apple counterpart, the 5106 is not capable of higher resolutions.  You should, in theory, be able to drive your Acer display at lower resolutions with the 5106.  And the 5106 may be sufficient for a 23" monitor . . . you'd need to check the maximum resolution for each.
But you definitely do need the 6904 for higher resolutions.  That's what 30" monitors and other high-res displays require.
