Why won't my USB Superdrive take my dvd?

I have tried to put a disc into my USB Superdrive, but all it does is make a weird noise and spit it out. The disc contains files, and if I try it with a dvd it does not happen. It is not urgent. But I would like to know why it happens.
THANK YOU!!!

The your supredrive has failed. If it is still covered by a warranty take it to an Apple store to be diagnosed and replaced or if you have no warranty on it just buy any brand external DVD drive that connects by USB port. That is any brand. It does not have to have the Apple name on it for it to work on your Mac.

    Hi
You can try some of these to fix:
    1. Clean drive check nothing is obstructing inserting disks hence then ejecting.
    2. Reset PRAM/NVRAM:
    About NVRAM and PRAM
    3. Return to apple store and have replaced
    Hope this helps

  • Why is my new USB Superdrive not working?

When I connect my new USB superdrive (external disc drive) to my iMac, it doesn't show on my list of devices in Finder or on the desktop.  I took it back to the store and it works on the store's iMacs. My eReader and USB memory stick both work.
Is there something I have to set in Preferences or software I have to load?

What year is your Mac? Is this the one you got?
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD564ZM/A/apple-usb-superdrive#overview-4
It only works with the new 2012 iMacs (which would explain why it works with the Macs in the store) and a couple of other models.
You could try an SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    and reset the PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11243
If that does not help and yours is a late 2012, then I have no answer for you except that unless someone else chimes in with one, I'd call Apple if you're still covered by the warranty or go back to the store.
Additionally, my LaCie external burner does not show on the desktop unless I have a disk inserted.

  • DVD-R or CD-Rs won't mount USB Superdrive MBP 15 inch retina

    Dear all,
I have a MBP 15inch 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 running OSX 10.9.5 and purchased an Apple usb Superdrive to burn discs.  I have tried inserting Verbatim DVD-Rs and Maxell CD-Rs but they won't mount.  Looking on the fora, I have tried repairing disk permissions but that hasn't helped.  Apple's own superdrive troubleshooting article doesn't help either.  The discs are not ejected - once inserted the drive makes some noise then stops.  Using Disk Utility I can eject the disc.
    Baffled.

I've sorted it.  I just had to go to System Preferences and choose my preferences for when I inserted a blank disc.  Because the MBP doesn't have an internal disc drive, all the options were set to "Ignore".  I replaced this with "Open Finder" and - Hey Presto - the disc DOES mount now.  I can now successfully burn photos from Aperture to DVD-R.

  • Why is my new USB Superdrive unsupported?

Since my iMac Matshita Superdrive  will not read CDs I have bought a USB Superdrive but find that it is "Unsupported".
Both failures are quite incredible but it would be nice to get a solution for one of them.

You're absolutely right and Apple deserves a bunch of dislikes for producing such a limited product and failing to show a warning on the box.  The so-called work around is too much for me and I don't suppose it would work on my Intel Mac mid 2007 anyway.
Many thanks for your follow up.

  • Why won't my USB to Coax converter work? No output

I'm trying to use a USB to Coax converter with my iMac. It's detected just fine but when I try to play any audio in iTunes it flat out won't tick past 0:00. It's like iTunes doesn't recognize it as an output.
The device is an Audio-gd Digital Interface and I want to use it because the USB section of my Marantz SA8004 is awful. I know it's probably a quick fix but I'm at a loss.

Is this a USB hard drive or a USB thumb drive?
If hard drive is it one of the USB powered drives, IE No AC Adapter to supply power to the drive?

  • Why won't my USB flash drive work?

I am working between two Macs in my house: the upstairs one is MAC OSX 10.6.8, and the downstairs one (an eMac) is MAC OSX 10.5.8 -- if that matters.
I need to transfer files from the downstairs computer to the upstairs one.
When I insert a USB flash drive into the upstairs Mac, I am able to save files to it and from it. (I have already read about the correct way to format the flash drive for FAT 32 and read/write, and I eject the drive correctly when I'm finished.)
Then when I go insert the flash drive into the downstairs Mac:
the flash drive appears on the desktop
I'm able to open it, to see the files saved to it
I can save files off of it, BUT
I cannot save files to it. I get a message that there isn't enough disk space, which is incorrect -- there's plenty of memory
I have tried opening Disk Utilities on both MACs, erasing the flash drive's contents, and reformatting it, but I get the same situation.
I'm guessing the solution is simple and involves the eMac's preferences. Am I on the right track?
    Frustrating.
    Many thanks for your help!

    Niel:
    Thanks for the reply!
The file on the eMac that I'm trying to transfer onto the flash drive is far less than 4GB.
So I went onto the eMac's Disk Utilities and reformatted the flash drive as Mac Extended: still no dice. Even with the contents of the flash drive erased, any attempt to copy files onto it resulted in the same "not enough disk space" message.
So I tried reformatting the same flash drive on the upstairs Mac. Same thing. I tried reformatting the flash drive both as "Mac Extended" and "Mac Extended (journaled)."
    Thoughts?

  • Why won't my USB external keypad work?

Hi there, I'm trying to set up my Targus Wireless Numeric Keypad (AKP11CA) to my MacBook (OS X). Nothing seems to work. I am supposed to plug in the USB receiver, then turn the keypad on. The first time I did this, the computer recognized that I was trying to plug in an external keypad, and asked me to press the key to the right of my shift button. Since my keypad only has numbers, this was impossible, so I skipped it, and then they gave me three choices to choose from: JIS, ISO or ANSI. I assume my keyboard is none of these things.
I have tried different combinations of how I plug it in: Turn it on first then plug it it, turn it on, plug it in, then reset, etc. Nothing has worked. I've also checked the battery. Help!

  • Why won't my USB mic work with Facetime?

I use a headset for chatting on my Macbook Pro because the audio quality is better than the stock speakers and built in mic.  For some reason today when I'm using Facetime, its only receiving audio input through the built in mic on the laptop.  The computer is detecting that there is another mic connected, and it works fine when using Skype or Ventrilo, but won't use it for Facetime.  The output works fine.  I can still hear everything through my headset, it just won't use my headset mic.  It was working correctly with my headset mic last night, and after restarting my computer this afternoon, this problem started.  Anyone have any ideas?

  • Why won't my USB drive work?

    Hello,
I have a Kingston Datatraveler Locker USB that I use on a regular basis. In order to use this thumb drive I need to run the encryption program and type in my password before I can access the data that I have stored on it. Before I upgraded my Macbook Pro to the new iOS Yosemite it worked perfectly. Now, every time I put the USB in, my macbook recognizes that an USB is inserted; however, when I go to run the encryption program I get a message saying that the program quit unexpectedly and no matter how many times I try, this continues to happen. I have tried multiple times, taking the USB out and inserting it and trying to run the program again. I tried to restart my Macbook and relaunching finder.

It is unfortunately (or fortunately) not a problem with your Mac. I have a brand new MacBook, free of any dust clouds, and my DTL+ also does not work. See the note from the Kingston support board below:
I updated my MacOS to 10.10 (Yosemite). Now my DT Locker Plus does not work. Is there a fix for this?
Unfortunately Apple made changes in their update to the MacOS that disabled the function of this drive. Since this drive is discontinued, we will have no fix for it. Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you.
