Hello,
I see that we are having some issue when attempting to print in colour.
I have done some research in to this issue and I have found a document that deals with when the Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages.
Please feel free to write me back if you have any other questions or concerns.

  • HP Officejet pro 8500a prints endless stream of un-ordered blank sheets with one character on them

My HP Officejet Pro 8500a worked fine until about 2 weeks ago (it is about 3 months old).  It began printing endlessly (during a period that no documents are being sent to the printer - I want to be clear this is not in regard to ORDERED documents from any of the computers).  It prints out a sheet of paper with a D in the first character spot in the left top corner, then spits out the paper.  It keeps going until it runs out of paper.  The only way to stop it is to 1) turn it off  2)keep pressing the "cancel print" button (every 5-10 seconds) or 3) take out the paper.  This of course is a hassle because while actually trying to print a document (which does come out fine), we have to load fresh paper and lose several pieces while the printer continues it's freak out before printing our ORDERED document.
Spent almost 2 1/2 hours on tech support yesterday - it took 2 hours to MAKE IT CLEAR that the printer was PRINTING ON IT'S OWN.  The tech kept trying to "fix" the documents I was printing (which are FINE, as I said).  Finally, I was told that a higher level tech would have to call me back - but looking through forums, it appears that's an empty promise and no point in waiting for assitance.
    Any suggestions?

Let's start by resetting the printer.  Turn it off, hold the # and 6 keys while and a bit after turning it back on.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500a prints slowly over wireless on Cisco Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router EA6500

I have the HP Officejet Pro 8500a. I recenrly change my wiress router to the Cisco Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router EA6500.
Nearly every time I print, the documement remains "pending" for at least several minutes, sometimes as long as 20, until it finally starts printing. Once it starts printing, the document is printed quickly.
It doesn't matter the size of the document and the time it remains "pending." I've done test pages with just the word "test" in a Microsoft Word document, and it will remain in "pending" for well over five minutes.
If I print over the USB cord, there are no delays.
I need help. I can't figure out how to remedy this long delay when printing wirelessly.
On a side note in case this is helpful, the Linksys router does have a priority setting where you can select up to three devices for priority access (faster connection?), which seems to be more for bandwidth-intensive devices. I tried adding both the laptop I'm printing from and the printer to this priority list, but that did not improve the print connection speed.
    Advice please! Thank you.

    Hi Jim-Gr,
I understand you have an Officejet 8500A that has started printing very slowly after switching routers. I'm sorry to hear this has happened but will certainly do my best to assist you.
I appreciate you advising that you have tried connecting the printer via USB and it does make a huge difference. I'm also assuming your previous router didn't go this slowly either. With the things you have tried, my assumption is that it's a setting in the router that needs to be changed. If you're not sure how to change things in your router you can generally call the router company and they will walk you through it.
First you will want to ask them if there are any firmware updates for your router, if there are have them perform the update. If it is up to date already then have them make sure your router is broadcasting at a frequency of 2.4 GHz as that's the only frequency the printer works with.
Second, you will want to make sure the following ports are open:
    UDP: 427, 161, 137, 138
    TCP: 9100, 9220, 9500, 137, 139, 427
Once all of this is updated, then I would suggest you power cycle everything (turn off the printer and the PC, pull the power on the router for 30 seconds and then turn the other two back on once lights are back to normal) and try again. This should allow your printing speed to go back to normal
Hope this helps, have a great day!

  • Why does my OfficeJet Pro 8500A occasionally print some pages of a document in jibberish?

Sometimes when I try to print multiple page documents off a website, some, but not all, come out nothing but jibberish.  They look formatted correctly, but its like they are in a secret code or alien language with numbers, symbols, etc.

  • How come I have to spend $145. to get windows 7 to install a HP officejet pro 8500a printer.

I have tried for 2 days to install a printer.I bought one and took it back to the store. They exchanged it for a new one and I could not install it either. After severa hours With a Technician from H.P. I could not get it to print anything from the internet.I was told by H.P. that it was Vista operational system and I have to buy windows 7.This sounds like a lot of BS to me.Andy

You're right. That does sound odd. I have q 6500+ running on Vist w/no problem. Have you a) uninstalled any old HP printers from the pc? b) run install as Administrator? I have not looked, but does the setup disc say it has Vista drivers? If so there should be no reason it doesn't install properly. I looked the printer up and it says it should work under Vista.
Maybe you need to open up a tech support case and get in touch w/a case mgr. to help you. They often are more help than some of the tech support staff.  Good luck.

  • I can't use ePrint or scan with an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A printer.

Ever since we got the Time Capsule, I have not been able to use ePrint or scan a document.  I can print just fine.  I think the problem might be that the Time Capsule is blocking some ports.

It's connected via WiFi.  I don't think we had this problem with the Linksys router.
So the TC doesn't block any ports at all except for vulnerable incoming ports?  Gee, it would have been nice if Apple said so in a Webpage.  Or did they?  I don't know.  All I know is that when searching for how to unblock a port on a Time Capsule all I found was instructions on port forwarding.  I did see a thread in here where some guy was having a related problem but his problem had to do with a different router.  He had his Time Capsule acting as a network bridge.

  • Officejet pro 8500A Plus Word 2010 not printing in booklet any more

I have been successfully printing booklet mode - the reason for buying the printer. Now I cannot set the option in the printer properties of Word 2010
I am setting the radio button to booklet and it immediately unsets :-O
If it unsets how can I print booklet
In the properties for the printer I have set it to print booklet by default - but it shows the pages per sheet radio button checked each time.
But it works for PDF files...
What is not being set correctly?

NOTE:    The printer driver does not support manual duplexing. Two-sided printing requires an HP Automatic Two-sided Printing Accessory to be installed on the device
found online in user guide  I am researching to find a printer that can do booklet printing

  • Officejet pro 8500a Printing Issues

    Hi All,
My printer decided to stop printing everything this morning i have run all sorts of tests uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it and looked at all FAQ's i managed to get it to print, but the only issue now is that when i print of excel text boxes and their contents are not printing but everything else is.  Please help very fustrated and ready to toss it out the window..........

Hi Danielle - A couple of things to try:
    - First, go to Control Panel, Printers and right click on the 8500 and choose Printer Properties.  Choose Advanced and cahnge from "Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster" to "Print directly to the printer".
    - If that doesn't work, try installint the printer driver that comes with Windows (assuming you used the printer CD to install the driver initially).  Once again, go into Control Panel, Printers and choose Add a printer, then scroll to HP under manufacturer and choose your model number.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can't print color in Excel Spread sheets on a HP 2605dn

We are using a PCL 6 driver. Other types of files print color ok. No Excel files will print color on the HP 2605dn printers. The same files will print on other model printers. We have changed all of the various color settings in the printer Properties. Window XP SP2. MS Office XP. Any ideas will be appreciated.

    Hi,
Based on its manual (document c03026243.pdf, pp 164, 165 & 166) you can't use tray 2 to print envelopes, you can ONLY use tray #1.
    Hope this answers your question.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500a problem with printing black ink

I have an Officejet Pro 8500a printer. When I print documents, it will not print anything in black ink. The colors work fine, but black just won't print. The printer claims that the black ink cartridge has plenty of ink, and when I shake it I can tell that there is something in there. So, I don't think it is an issue of the black ink being out. Is there a chance that something is blocking the ink from coming out? Any fixes to this besides buying a new ink cartridge?

  • Two sided printing on macbook with hp officejet pro 8500a

I've got a hp officejet pro 8500a printer installed on my mac os x but i cant find the option of automatic 2-sided printing. How to turn on this function/anybody knows ?

    Hello OLTO,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with the printer going into sleep mode and not waking up when a print job is sent.
This could possibly be a power issue or in a lot of cases, a lack there of.
Please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I also suggest downloading and installing the HP Officejet Pro Firmware
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

I have a HP officejet pro 8500a printer that has stopped printing. It will not print anything off of my HP pavilion notebook and I just found out that it will not copy anything either. Does anyone know what the problem may be?

HI @anewleaf , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you're running into copy and print issues.  I'd love to help!
I have a few questions before we get the ball rolling:
Are you using Windows or Macintosh?
If you are using Windows, is it a 32-bit or a 64-bit system?
    Do you recieve any errors?
Is the printer not printing any pages, or printing blank pages?
I'm including documents that will help you find the system info:
Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
Please let me know what you find.  Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Officejet Pro 8500A - unable to print on odd-size paper

After a couple of hours of frustration, I have decided that I an unable to print on odd-sized paper on our brand new HP printer!  On an older string in this user forum, one suggestion was to make a paper cut-out from regular sized paper to put on top of an envelope to "fool" the printer into thinking it was using standard sized paper.  I am trying to print odd-sized wedding invitations, and in order to to do this, I wouldn't be able to use the paper guides intended to keep the smaller paper in the middle.
Another suggestion would be to create a "custom size" paper in the printer properties, which doesn't seem to be possible in Windows XP as far as I can see.
    My card-stock paper measures 4 3/4" x 6 7/8"  Neither 5 x 7" nor 4 x 6" will work and I have tried numerous others, such as Janpanese postcard, Index card 4 x 6, etc.
Any suggestions?  This is frustrating enough to look at other namebrand printers next time, but I guess I'm stuck with this one for a while!

    Hello @drlogan0,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are encountering problems with getting your Officejet pro 8500A onto your new wireless network.
    I would like to help.
i would try restoring the network defaults. This will help erase any 'old' information that may be stuck in the printers memory. I would like to give you specific steps for this, but I am unsure if you have the 8500A, 8500A wireless, or the 8500A premium.
Basically the steps are, go into the network menu, and select restore network defaults.
If you have tried restoring the network defaults already, please review the following troubleshooting documents.

  • Officejet Pro 8500A unable to connect wirelessly to Ubee Modem/Router

I recently upgraded to a new "all in one" Ubee Modem Router (Model DDW366) and have spent hours attempting to wirelessly (both using Wizard and entering info by hand) print, but nothing has worked.  The only way I am able to print at this time is by printer cable connected to my MacBook Pro.  I'm unable to print wirelessly from my MacBook Pro, iPhone and iPad.
HP will not advise me on how to solve this problem as printer is no longer under warranty and Cox Cable who sold me the Modem/Router combo are not willing to assist with this problem.
Can anyone advise me on how to print wirelessly again?

  • My printer officejet pro 8500A plus won't go into power or screen saver mode with XP Prof/

why doesn't my printer officejet pro 8500A plus go into power save or screen saver mode with windows XP Professional?
I have updated the firmware, i've put the printer through a power cycle, I did a semifull reset. I checked the boxes to on for power save and screensaver. Yet my printer runs through the product tour all day long

the only place I can find to enable power and screen savings is on the printer LCD itself. Is there somewhere else to look for this option? I look at printer HP on windows go to properties and there is no way to enable power saver mode.
