Why won't Reader 9 for Mac allow commenting on pdf v 1.3 or 1.4?

Hi,
I'm using Reader 9 for Mac, and my editor is sending me pdfs that she has given me permission to edit using the comment feature.  I have found that when those pdf are version 1.6 I can edit them, but when they are version 1.3 or 1.4 I cannot.  Additionally, those pdfs version 1.3 are create by QuarkExpress (not sure what that is) and those that are 1.6 are created by Acrobat Distiller 7.0 fo Mac. Colleagues who use a PC have no problem editing those same pdfs, regardless of version.
Has anyone encountered this problem and /or know of a way to address it?
Your help would be much appreciated.
SF

The ability to enable commenting didn't come out until version 7 so I would imagine that is why they don't work on those PDF's.
Other people may be able to comment because they "may" be using Acrobat and not Reader.

  • Adobe reader 8 for Mac

On an eMac, running OS X.4.11. When I open any pdf, it stays open for only 10-15 seconds, then closes and the dock closes around the adobe reader 8 icon. Customer service talked me through a reinstall and verified that I had done it correctly, but the problem keeps happening. Any pdf files opens perfectly, remains on the screen for a few seconds then closes.

    Dear Gene,
Thanks so much for the information. However, I found a workaround earlier today so all my pdf files open, and stay open, using Preview.
    Best regards,

Why won't adobe touch for ios not load all my pictures?

Hi. As a workaround you can enable "Always use native photo browsers"  in the PS Touch settings. It's listed under "Preferences" -> "Access Local Photos setting". See attached screenshot
We are working on a fix for the next release.

  • Which Reader upgrade for Mac OS 10.4.10?

System requirements page says correct version is Reader 7.1.0.
But when I try to choose appropriate version toggle for Mac Power PC with 10.4.10, I am given only the option to download Reader 8.1.3, which says it is for 10.4.3 to 10.4.10. Yet on system requirements page, 8.1.3 is shown as appropriate for OS 10.4.11 and up.
This conflict seems impossible. Which should I choose?
I have a Mac iBook Power PC G4 with 512 MB memory

Thanks -- why does the system requirements page tell me now to use this?

  • Why  won't software update find Mac App Store

Which tabs are you referring to?
Do you mean where you see Featured / Top Charts / Categories etc at the top of the window?

  • Why must it be "made for mac" ram?

Would anyone like to shed some light on this subject?
This is a little confusing, isn’t ram just ram? the specks are exactly the same:
G4 ram in G4 Tower OSX4.11, calls for-- pc 133 sdram 64 bit, non buffer, 168 pin-- so why not the $10 stick rather than the “made for mac” $30 stick?
I do know that mixing brands and sizes is a bad idea, I get that OSX is PICKY, but if All the ram is replaced with matching units . . . .

If a person really wanted to, they could put all 4 of the same pc-ram in and it would function... BUT it would be prone to "glitchyness" AKA not nearly as reliable and care free as "for Mac ram"
This "glitchyness" is often the case.
because the OS itself requires accuracy to function optimally, it also requires all of the hardware involved to be equally accurate.
Not only the OS, but also the machines firmware.
There are strict controls to insure that RAM meets the requirements for proper operation, and error free data handling.
One big difference between cheap PC RAM and Mac compatible RAM, is the chip density.
Cheap RAM typically uses fewer, high density chips to make the RAM boards cheaper to build. The high density chips, though, do not have the physical addressing characteristics that Mac firmware requires.
These chips are often of poorer quality, as compared to lower density chips, due to mass production for maximum profit.
Mac RAM uses low to medium density chips. Not only are more chips required, but, typically, the lower density chips run at a higher quality level, from a production stand point.
Another key element in the successful use of any DIMM in a Mac, is the proper coding of the EEPROM on the RAM. Without the proper coding, the SPD (Serial Presence Detect) may fail, or, may result in incorrect parameters being applied to the RAM.
Many of the budget PC memory DIMMs, don't have the proper EEPROM coding, which results in anything from failure to detect (no RAM seen) to incorrect reporting of the DIMM.
    weakest link
Those in the know understand the poor quality RAM can do a system much harm. More problematic, is the data corruption that can occur due to data handling errors within a poor quality DIMM. Since every bit of data, and every command line will pass through the RAM, it is important to have high quality, accurately programmed and timed memory.
Apple engineers recognize this, thereby the stricter requirements, first, at the firmware level, and second, at the OS level.
This demand for quality and specification adherence, helps everyone.

  • My iMac G3 won't read/boot the Mac OS X disk!

I am having a lot of trouble with an old iMac G3. It has Mac OS 9 on it (I recently updated it to Mac OS 9.1), and I am trying to upgrade it to Mac OS X Panther. I also installed the recent firmware thingy for it. But I am coming across problems...
First I tried loading the Mac OS X disc 1 into the CD-ROM drive, and it detected the CD, but when I tried beginning the installation process, when I clicked the button for it to restart to begin installation, I got an error message reading...
"An error occurred. 'Startup disk was unable to select the install CD as the startup disk. (-2).'"
I also tried rebooting the PC holding the "C" key on the keyboard, but doesn't work, and I also holding the "Option" key down among rebooting, but the OS X disc doesn't show up in the Startup Manager. It DOES show up in the Startup Disk Utility in OS 9 but won't let me select it as the startup disk.
I REALLY need help here. I am tight on money and I don't want to do any hardware upgrades right now. The Mac already has enough memory (578 MB of RAM, to be precise) and has a 7 GB hard drive. I don't really like Mac OS 9 and would much prefer Mac OS X on it.
    Please reply with answers/suggestions!

Well, I found the problem: turns out the disks for Mac OS X Panther I had were incompatible BECAUSE I got them from a friend whose Panther disks came with a Mac he bought some time ago. So I solved that dilemma by acquiring a RETAIL copy of Mac OS X Panther, and it installed. So now my iMac G3 is running Leopard almost like a G4 Mac Mini!

  • What is the deal with the latest Reader release for mac 11.0.3?

Last week I upgraded the Adobe Reader on my Mac to release 11.0.3 and now all my .pdfs get corrupted.  No matter if I am saving a pdf file form a website or downloading an email attachment. A message about corrupted file echos back to the screen.  They seem to work fime in the windows version though. I also noticed that Adobe wants to introduce there own "print wizard", really?  Why are you reinventing the wheel here?  I thought adobe was the most trust worth application on the web but now its seems they are as bad as HP and Microsoft. Please find this release and remove the printer crap. The Apple stuff worked far, far better.  If you have a mac do not download this release.

MacMini (late 2012 model Core i5 purchased NEW 06/22/2013)
OS X 10.8.4 (It came with 10.8.3 and I updated it on first startup)
    Reader 11.0.03
I've downloaded half a dozen PDFs only this morning testing Firefox, Reader and MacMail. All open as they should, no error messages, no corruption, nothing.
As many posts as I've seen that reference this, I can't help but think there's some software out there I haven't got installed that's causing the corruption, because I haven't seen it yet. Granted, it's been three days since I took this Mini out of the box, but I've installed alot of software and it's been up and running more than 18 hours a day since Saturday morning.

  • Desktop Software for MAC allows only two way sync

    hi...
I want help with the Blackberry desktop software for MAc. I am able to synce my phone, however there is no way in which I can do a one-way sync  - replacing all the data on the mac with the data of the phone...
please let me kniw if there is any way of doing that
    thanks

Isn't it simply because of the known problem with iCloud sync enabled?
This operation makes the address book and calendar(s) invisible to BBDM as the data files are "removed" from the Mac and put "in the cloud"...
Several posts are documenting the problem and suggest some alternatives or work around (by disabling iCloud).
Look on the forum for additional details.
Please don't forget to mark as "solved" if your question is replied and to "like" a useful reply to your post ;-)

  • Reader 9 for Mac "Enable Reader Usage Rights"

how is this done for mac's in 9? all of the forums say go to the advanced tab and then just enable them there... there is no advanced drop down menu? I need to add in comments and such but can't do that until i have Enabled Reader Usage Rights, please help!

    >so can i not make annotations if i just have the free version?
That's correct, unless someone has enabled the usage rights for you/
    >because i cannot enable my reader usage rights?
Yes. The idea is to sell more copies of Acrobat, one way or another.

  • Deploy Customized Reader XI for Mac

I am trying to customize the Reader XI installer so that it will not prompt the end user for updates. I have signed up for the enterprise deployment and read the documentation. I cant find anything regarding how to customize the Reader installer, only the paid Acrobat installer. The customization tool for mac requires serialization but we are just trying to get reader installed.
    Thanks

You can manually follow the instructions for setting the updater pre as described in the Mac Wizard doc, or you can find this info in the Admin Guide > Mac Deployment > Disabling Updates: http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AdminGuide/mac.html#disabling-updates

  • Why is my Microsoft Office for Mac programs no longer compatible with 10.7 Lion?

"Power PC applications no longer supported" the Microsoft Office Pack was Mac versions of Word, Powerpoint, etc. and when I downloaded Lion upgrade to operating system, it gave me message above. What's up wth that? Must I go buy a newer version of Microsoft Office for Mac or rely on Pages, which I like, but for ease of use between home and office, I also like to have Word. Anybody else having same issue?

    Neo Office
    OpenOffice
    Google Docs
    iWork
Are all excellent alternatives for Office.

  • Is Adobe reader touch for windows 8 support interactive PDF files with multi media contents like SWF

I have many PDF files with SWF content i try Adobe reader X but it is slow, so i try Adobe reader touch for windows 8 but the SWF doesn't work.

The full featured Reader for Windows 8 is Reader XI.
Reader Touch works in all Windows 8 systems BUT it is intended mainly for use in mobile tablets - I see no particular reason to use it unless you can'r run Reader XI. Given it is mainly for use on mobile that can't use Flash, we aren't likely to ever see the development team spending their time on this.
If you want the latest and greatest - at least try Reader XI, not X! (Flash is a separate download, it will prompt).

The first thing that comes to mind is Adobe Interactive Forms, but since your requirement is way to general, there is no way of telling you how to use it.
So, first read up on Adobe IF to see what it can do for you.
