Why won't Safari open after an error message?

After an error message Safari shut down and won't reopen.  All other applications (mail, iphoto, address book, etc) work normally but Safari gets about halfway through the home url and then quits.

1. Reset Safari.
Click Safari in the menu bar.
From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
Uncheck the box next to  " Remove saved names and passwords".
    Click "Reset".
2.  Empty Caches
    Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
"Develop" menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
3. Turn off Extensions, if any.
    Safari > Preferences > Extensions

  • Why won't Safari open PDF-documents after uninstalling Adobe Reader?

    Hi.
I wonder why Safari won't open a PDF-document after I uninstallet Adobe Reader. Prior to my installation of Adobe Reader, Safari opened PDF's without any diffyculty.
I've tried to reset Safari but it didn't seem to help at all.
    What do I do?
    Thanks
    Mike

There might be a residual plug-in interfering with Safari's PDF opening capabilities.
Installed plug-ins are listed via Safari > Help menu.
    They are located in
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    and
    ~/Library//Internet Plug-ins
    (tilde is home folder)

  • Why won't Safari open a web page when I click on it using Windows XP?

I prefer to use Safari as my primary browser for my Windows XP laptop.  Recently, there has been no response when I click on the browser.  When I click on it, it opens up fine, but it does not pull the Apple Home Page, or any other web pages.  It seems to be lag, but nothing happens even after refreshing the browser, clearing the cache and history, resetting it, repairing it, and even removing and reinstalling it.  I have deleted any third party applications that may be affecting it, and I downloaded and installed the most current version of Safari.  I can surf the web fine with other browsers.  I do not get any error messages, it just stays in "thinking mode".  I've even tried using it in Safari's safe mode, only to have the same results.
I've checked for viruses and malware -- none found, and my Internet Security (Kaspersky) is up-to-date, and has never been an issue before.  A system restore did not even fix the problem.  I've run out of options, and was recommended by Apple to join this community for further assitance, and hopefully a resolution.
I hope everyone has a Happy T-Day too!

Create a new Windows User account with full administrative rights. Log out of your usual account and log into the new account. (Don't use fast user switching to move between accounts.)
Try launching Safari in the new account. Does it launch there, or do you get the same sort of behavior as in the usual account?
I did exactly that, and the same thing happened, only this time, the toolbar was missing (File, Edit, View, etc. options).  The URL still showed up, but still stuck in "thinking mode."  Same thing happened when I tried a search in the search bar.
This is not how I intented to spend my Thanksgiving!

  • Why won't Thunderbird open after Mac reboot?

Using Thunderbird on Macbook Pro for a couple of years, no problem. Recently moved house; same router and ISP but been getting invalid certificate messages on high-security sites ("Your connection is not private"). Changed two certificates to "always trust" and rebooted. Now Thunderbird won't respond, even after 2nd reboot as mentioned in another question - I've done my homework ;-)
thanks in advance for your help!

I mentioned the high security sites simply in terms of the general context of my problem. Thunderbird still won't open and I would very much appreciate someone's experience to understand why and what I need to do to get it to start again. All my emails are filed in Thunderbird and if it won't open, I can't work. Thanks for your help.

  • Why won't itunes open after being downloaded?

Please help I am about to cry with frustration! I have tried for a week to install itunes on my laptop for my new nano. The download seems to work but when I click on the icon itunes does not open. Quicktime works. I have tried uninstalling fully and then re-installing after re-starting but had no joy.
    Can anyone help ?
    Thank you

No error message at all. Hourglass appears for a few seconds and then nothing.
I don't have Norton and have tried disabling my virus software and then running it but still nothing.
Ahhh, thank you kindly. that's already ruled out a couple of possible culprits.
One last preliminary question aimed at diagnosing the issue prior to trying a treatment.
reboot the PC. bring up your Task Manager, and click on the "Processes" tab. now try to launch itunes again.
does an "itunes.exe" process appear in the Processes tab? if so, does it persist in there or does it disappear after a few seconds?

  • Why won't safari open the jjill website? what do i do?

why wont safari open the j.jill website?  what can i do to fix this?

opening this web page does the same thing.
to clarify: we get an email from jjill and click to open it and are directed to safari which will not open it. we cannot go to the j.jill site from the email, nor can we go directly to the j.jill site from safari. we cannot get to j.jill at all. we can get to other websites....we are having a problem getting to this one only.  We can get to this site on other deivces, i.e. ipads, other laptops, etc. The problem is currently happening on our MacBook only.
The message we get from safari is:
"too many redirects. this may occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which then is redirected to open the original page."
what can we do about this to fix it?
    Thanks.

  • ITunes store won't display open. No error message or connection problems.

For the last few weeks I've been trying to access the iTunes store but it will not open. I click on "iTunes Store" but it just shows me a blank screen. It seems to load it judging by the bar that displays the song information but it just doesn't show any content. It also does not give me any type of error message nor does it have any problem when I go to sign in and view my account information. The problem is only on iTunes, my App Store works perfectly fine. No matter how many times I try refreshing the page it just shows me the same blank page. I have tried re-installing itunes multiple times with no results.
Here is a picture of what I see when I try to open the store:

    This article has some tips
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1368
(particularly under Troubleshooting on a Mac)
If that does not help...  As a test, to narrow down the cause, you may want to create a new user account in System Preferences Users & Groups pane.  It can be Standard or Admin.  Log out and log in to the new user account (do not use Fast User Switching).
Try running iTunes from the new user account, and accessing the iTunes Store.
If the problem does NOT occur in the new account, the cause is likely to be something in your primary user account.  For example, it could be user preferences settings, or something related to your iTunes library, or a background process that runs in your account that is interfering somehow.
If the same problem does occur in the new account, the cause is likely to be related to the overall OS, the iTunes application, or maybe network settings that block access to the iTunes Store.
Either way, you'll be able better focus additional troubleshooting.

  • Why won't Safari open more than 6 tabs at a time after Yosemite upgrade?

I have to view many websites in a day, certainly in the 100s, possibly over a thousand on occasion - I have various finder folders full of links that I open all at once. In mavericks you could open more than 50 if you had to. Yosemite can manage 6... Needles to say opening the pages 6 at a time will make this task virtually impossible. Is there a solution to this problem?

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Why won't Safari open links in a frame in a new window?

I am having trouble with Safari not opening links on a certain page. I am using OS 10.8.2 and Safari 6.0.2.  The links on this site work in Firefox and Chrome, but not Safari. I have tried the same page on older computers with older versions of Safari, and they work like they always have.
The only thing I can think of that might be causing an issue is that the links reside on a frame within a webpage.  If I hold down command and click the link it will open in a new tab, but I don't want to have to hold down the command key every time.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    -Kristen

Okay, I think I know a little more about why Safari is having issues with these links.  The link has some Javascript in it (onclick="logAction('Lesson Planet - Quick Link');return true;")  that records that it was clicked for statistics logging:
    <a href="http://www.sbceoportal.org/jsp/lesson_planet.jsp" title="Thousands of searchable lesson plans vetted by teachers." target="_blank" onclick="logAction('Lesson Planet - Quick Link');return true;">
    <img src="quick_links_files/lesson_planet.jpg" width="230"></a>
When I take the Javascript out, Safari will open the link.  I'd really like to leave the Javascript in, because we are recording statistics this way.  Is there any workaround?
    Thanks,
    Kristen

  • Why won't illustrator open after I've bought it

Illustrator won't open can you please advise why? only the top bar comes up and i can't open up a new document.

    Sarah,
You could try to reinstall using the full three step way (otherwise strange things may linger):
Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

  • Why won't safari open a pdf

I've downloaded reader-- checked the 32-bit deal, made sure pdf's are opened by reader and still safari won't open a pdf.  What have I missed?

I am a developer who has been sending Livecycle Acrobat documents to users over the internet. The upgrade to Mac OS X 10.7 and Safari 5.1.2 has caused this problem for many of my users.  The only solution I've been able to find so far is to use FireFox and Acrobat Reader.
Our software does not provide a link to a PDF.  Instead, we send the PDF with header for inline; and a type of application/pdf and a generated file name.  Safari INSISTS on opening this in the viewer.  The viewer doesn't open LiveCycle documents.
I've tried removing the pdf plugin.
I've tried making the appropriate changes to the Acrobat Reader preferences under "Display PDF in browser using," but this option is actually greyed out and automatically selects/deselects based on the existance of the plug-in.
I've tried doing CMDl-I on a PDF file and changing the "Open With" to pdf reader.
I've tried adding code to the .htaccess directory of my web site forcing the header based on the .pdf extension.
In short, I have not found ANY solution to this.  Safari will not use Acrobat or Acrobat Reader and Safari will not open a LiveCycle document.
If anyone has another suggestion I would LOVE to hear it.  This is a major problem for us and I hate to try to tell our entire user community that they have to switch to FireFox if they want to view our documents.

  • Why Won't iTunes Open After Updating?

    Hello,
I updated iTunes today because I wanted to import songs from a CD onto it. After updating iTunes, I received the following messages after trying to open iTunes. (http://imgur.com/Rv2jOWa) The second message would appear after clicking "Okay" on the first message. I tried reinstalling iTunes through Apple. I also uninstalled myself after Apple's way didn't work 3 times in a row. I tried twice myself and after all that it still displays those messages after trying to open iTunes. I've never had a problem with iTunes before.

  • Why won't safari open https sites?

I'm having difficulty opening https sites in Safari (I'm using version 7.0.4). Some sites just won't open at all, others open but don't load all images. I've tried resetting my router, resetting safari, clearing history etc. but nothing has helped so far. Can anyone help?

    Ok ..
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:   Remove All Website Data
    Then delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If nothing above helped, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
