Why won't Safari play flash but Chrome will

I am able to play Flash when I use Chrome howevrer when I use Safari it does not work. I am using Snow Lepard and have downloaded the latest version of Safari already and I check in the settings and it is alowing plugins. What do I need to do to get Flash to work on Safari?

What exactly is your problem? Is it, (a) your Mac doesn't read your external disk, or, (b) you can't retrieve your videos, or, (c) you can't play them, or, (d) you were able to play them at one point, but not any more.
What version of Mac OS X are you using, what app are you trying to play your videos with, what happens when you do, and what error messages, if any, do you get?

1) The Advanced Stream Redirector (ASX) format is not supported by QT X.
2) The Advanced Stream Redirector (ASX) format is not supported by QT 7 without third-party support such as the Fil4Mac WMV components.
3) Even the Flip4Mac WMV component only "supports a small subset of the ASX file format."
On my system:
1) Trying to play the file directly in QT X using the "Open Location..." option returns the fillowing message, "The movie 'mdsmarttool.asx' can’t be opened because the file is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands. The file may be damaged or may not be a movie file that is compatible with QuickTime Player."
2) Trying to play the file directly in QT 7 using the "Open URL..." option returns the following message in the "Inspector" window, "Movie Unavailable."
3) Trying to download the linked file does nothing. (Aborts action without any message.)
4) Trying to open the URL in Safari returns the following message, "The operation couldn't be completed. A Microsof Media Server (MMS) error was encountered. (-19160) Try again. If the problem persists, contact the website administrator."
Based on these results, it would appear that there may either be an access problem or a file type support problem.

Thanks .Ralph. The problem is only on the iPad 2only. I have an iPad 1 as well and it never had the problem. The only videos that I have tried are you tube and the tutorials on apple.com. I have absolutely no problem on either of my laptops or desktop PC's. Only the iPad 2. I am a new Apple user, so not very familiar yet with the product, but this is an absolute deal breaker for me. With Apple's reputation I was not expecting any such problems and it is beyond my skill set to solve it. Very frustrating. Again, no problem with you tube videos. I don't watch movies, so am not a Netflix member and haven't tried that yet, only you tube videos and apple.com tutorial videos. I have to watch those on my laptop. Again, I found a fix to the you tube problem. It was a link to a site. www.youtube/html5. html5 video player trial that you click on and once done, the videos on the you tube app started working great. They were doing the same thing as the tutorial videos prior to that. No such luck with the other web videos, at least the ones that i have tried. Hope this is enough info and understandable. You might check out the html5 site. I didn't thoroughly understand why, but it worked. You may understand it better. I am a proficient user, but far from an I.t. Pro. I have read Many posts with similar problems, but no simple solutions and the ones I did try didn't work. Speed tested well. Channel is set to auto and always different than neighboring networks, usually channel 11. Tried disabling QOS as suggested....no good. I am completely stumped. Any help is greatly appreciated. Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
Allow Plug-ins
Then click
Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

wqn02h, first thing I would do is use Disk utility to repair permissions. Once this is done. Make sure you have the latest versions of the software you use. Also, check the manufacter of your printer/scanner for updated software. If they don't have updated software there are 3rd party alternatives that will work.

You can force quit from the Apple menu, Option + Command + Esc or the Activty Monitor located in /Applications/Utilities

On another apple discussion page, a user--Charlicharli-- posted a link to download and everything seems to be fine now. Apparently we had to check with Lenovo. We were looking in all the wrong places for the fix!

I am having the same problem. I am not able to load ESPN or any of its affiliated apps. I also tried craigslist and ebay using safari and no luck. I tried contacting ESPN and they told me to contact AT&T. So I have been chatting with an AT&T rep for about an hour and haven't had any luck. Some friends who also have AT&T are having the same problems, while those with Verizon are working fine. I'm from the St. Louis are if that's any help.

FCE project suddenly won't open in FCE but it will open in FCP???

I've been working on a FCE 3.5 project for a couple weeks. Everyday I save the project under a differently dated name. I finished working on the file for this morning and saved it before closing. When I went to open it this afternoon, it suddenly won't open. Yesterday's file version of it will open though. I tried all different ways of opening todays version but it just won't open. So I tried to open it in FCP 5.1 and it opened up fine. I don't understand what could have happened to the file, that it won't open in FCE but it will open up in FCP? Any guesses.

Your method seems like a good one and as you say, makes it easy to spot any problems. I have a big family project involving many hours of kids video which I am editing. I have been filing everything under the one title, using "Save All" each time I finish the session, but in fact I can see the benefits of your method and will now start saving using the date.

Are you certain you finished downloading it? Typically, the download is huge and may take a long time.

Why won't YouTube play on my new Macbook Air?

I recently just purchased a brand new Macbook Air for work. 4th Gen. It's awesome. However, I also recently discovered that almost no videos will play from YouTube. I'm using Safari. After finding this out, I went through all the troubleshooting steps. I reinstalled my Flash Player. I tried it from a different browser. I opted out of the HTML 5 trial on YouTube. I changed my firewall settings. I did a software update. Downloaded java. I emptied the cache. And still...nothing. Sometimes the advertisements will play through but then when it gets to the content, the message "An error occurred, please try again later." I can't even tell you how annoying this is after so many page refreshes. I figure it has to be something wrong in the Mac itself, but I can't figure it out. Please...someone help!

1. Enable Plug-ins
    Safari > Preferences > Security
    Internet Plug-ins > "Allow all other plug-ins
2. Reset Safari.
    Click Safari in the menu bar.
    From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
    Uncheck the boxes next to all items.
    Check the box next to "Remove all website data".
    Click "Reset".
3. Turn off Extensions, if any that may interfere with Flash working properly.
    Safari > Preferences > Extensions
     Now try YouTube.
