Why won't safari quit?
Prior to this occasion, my safari has always worked and now I have been trying to shut down my computer and it won't because I have to quit safari. Now my safari won't work. Does anyone know why? Thanks.
When an app won't quit, you can "force quit"... several ways to do this.
Command + Optoin + Esc on your keyboard.
Or click Force Quit from your Apple menu.
Or use Acitivity Monitor located in HD > Applications > Utilities

Why won't Safari quit on Lion?
This has happened twice now - White Macbook 13-inch, mid-2010. OS X 10.7 Lion installed, along with the most current version of Safari and latest software update. Safari has refused to quit. Command-Q won't work, and the Safari menu has the 'Quit Safari' button grayed out. Computer refuses to restart or shut down until Safari quits, which will not happen when you click 'Shut Down' or 'Restart'. The only way to quit safari is to hit Option-Command-Escape, which brings up the Force Quit menu. Took this problem to the Apple Store Genius Bar, and all they did was force quit it and report the problem to Apple - but something tells me that they're not going to do much about it. What can I do to avoid this happening?
Don't know how to avoid the main Problem, but here's a tip to avoid the side-effect of many windows:
To avoid the problem of Safari reopening all the windows again, try deleting the Safari Saved application state (AFTER killing safari but BEFORE you restart it):
Kill Safari, as explained above
Go to the com.apple.Safari.savedState Folder in the Saved Application State folder in your Library Folder:
In Finder
Menu Go To > Folder (or Command+Shift+G)
Enter ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Delete all the files there (data.data, windows.plist) If you have problems with permissions see http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/17/delete-specific-application-saved-states-from-mac -os-x-10-7-lion-resume/
Start Safari
And if you don't want Safari to reopen windows ever again see http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/31/disable-resume-specific-applications-mac-os-x-lio n/
Good luck!
And don't forget that lions are dangerous animals not to be played with! -

Why won't safari 7.0.2 open pdf files
why won't safari 7.0.2 open pdf files
Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
Allow Plug-ins
Then click
Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari. -
why won't Safari close?
Once you "force quit" it shouldn't happen again.
You can force quit from the Apple menu, Option + Command + Esc or the Activty Monitor located in /Applications/Utilities -

Tried permissions. but has this been going on for a few weeks
Thanks
EnioHow many mail accounts do you have in Mail > Preferences > Accounts and what type are they (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
In Mail, open Window > Activity Viewer. What do you see there when Mail refuses to quit? Actually, you may be able to avoid having to force quit Mail by canceling whatever it’s doing (by clicking on the red stop icon of the activity).
Do you have any Mail plug-ins? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
/Library/InputManagers/
/Library/Mail/Bundles/
~/Library/InputManagers/
~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
To make accurately reporting that information easier, open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command (you can just copy it here and paste it in Terminal), and press <Return>. You can then copy the output of that command from Terminal and paste it in your reply to this post:
ls -1 /Library/InputManagers /Library/Mail/Bundles ~/Library/InputManagers ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there. -
Why won't safari load images and connect to websites?
We've had this problem intermittently for several months. When visiting SOME websites (though never the same ones twice) instead of loading images, it comes up with a blue question mark in a box. if we try to reload the page, it will do one of two things: it will either reload exactly the same, or, it will reload in a format that shows vertical written links - no images. it almost looks like programming language, but it's readable.
also, when we go between links, we often get the message that "safari can't find the server". this is, again, erratic. If i try to go directly to the same website by typing in the address in the bar, i will get the connection. (so, if i go from youtube for example to try to connect to another website it won't work. but if i try to go directly to that website by just typing in the address myself, i can get it.) as i said, it doesn't always happen, but when it does it's a real pain!
lately, i've had a new problem too, which seems to relate: when using hulu.com, it will not load the show saying it is unavailable and to clear my cache. I've done that... and it still won't reload. yet, when i go to google, and search hulu.com, and go to the website that way, i can get to the show page no problem. Or, i have to quit safari and then go back to hulu and, again, no problem.
sometimes we can go for days without the problem, sometimes not.
any ideas on how to help this problem would be MOST appreciated! thanksblue question mark in box
Go to Safari > Preferences then select the Appearance tab. Make sure Display images when the page opens is selected.
For server issues, try turning off the router for a few minutes, then restart it.
Hulu requires the Flash plugin. Uninstall your current copy of Flash, then reinstall > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Try emptying the Safari cache more often.
And reset Safari. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes, click Reset.
And how much free space on the startup disk? Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
Try Safari in another user account. Same problems there, then log back into your admin account, launch Disk Utility. /Applications/Utilities
Select the startup disk in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions). If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks -

Why won't safari open https sites?
I'm having difficulty opening https sites in Safari (I'm using version 7.0.4). Some sites just won't open at all, others open but don't load all images. I've tried resetting my router, resetting safari, clearing history etc. but nothing has helped so far. Can anyone help?
Ok ..
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click: Remove All Website Data
Then delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If nothing above helped, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall. -

Why won't Safari open PDF-documents after uninstalling Adobe Reader?
Hi.
I wonder why Safari won't open a PDF-document after I uninstallet Adobe Reader. Prior to my installation of Adobe Reader, Safari opened PDF's without any diffyculty.
I've tried to reset Safari but it didn't seem to help at all.
What do I do?
Thanks
MikeThere might be a residual plug-in interfering with Safari's PDF opening capabilities.
Installed plug-ins are listed via Safari > Help menu.
They are located in
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
and
~/Library//Internet Plug-ins
(tilde is home folder)
