Why won't snow leopard install on Mac OSX intel core duo10.5.8

Why won't Snow Leopard install on my Mac O S X 10.5.8 Intel core duo

You need a minimum 1 GB of RAM.  It has to be of high quality*: http://www.macmaps.com/badram.html
You should also look over this FAQ to make sure you didn't miss anything*:
http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
Note, in event you were interested in Lion, that Mac is not compatible with Lion unless you misidentified it.  Only MacBooks with machine ID 2,1 or later can upgrade to Lion (1,1 and 1,2 are earlier).  The Machine ID is in Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info.

  • Why won't snow leopard disc fit in old Mac Pro slot?

I have an old Mac Pro.  Still running 10.5.8 and trying to take the next step to Snow Leopard (10.6).  Just ordered the disc from Apple but the disc won't fit in the plastic tray of the tower!  Any thoughts ... other than ask Santa for a new computer for Christmas?

Grant, thank you so much for the quick reply.  Yes, you're right, the tower is heavy as sin!  Our more recent computers out west are iMacs which are much easier for us to deal with.  We do have the tower upright.  Bill just moved it here to our vacation house for the winter.  Is it possible [don't underestimate him] that he could have inadvertantly opened the tower DVD slot and a decidedly important part fell out during the disconnect in B'ham?  The discs don't seat themselves.  It's like they're too large by just a smidge and won't sit level in the depression.  As I close the tray the top of the opening scrapes the disc off.  It won't let it go inside so I can begin the struggle with the install itself.

  • Why won't Snow Leopard server use an up to date mySQL?

I'm about to have to throw away a perfectly good Xserve since it won't update to mySQL 5.1.33 for Moodle 2.3. I'm almost to the point of deleting snow leopard and installing Ubuntu server in its place.  I have no budget for buying an OS upgrade (our budgets have been cut >35%). so if snow leopard server cannot be upgraded (I see no technical reason for not doing so on Apple's part- I have this version on mysql running on an old FreeBSD 7 server for a trouble ticket server).
No, upgrading to a new version of the Mac server is not an option.

  • After Snow Leopard install, my Mac won't restart or shut down...

...and when I attempted to install 10.6.1 update, it WILL NOT restart, hence NO update. It's functional, but stuck. Any suggestions? What details/info. do you need to make a suggestion?
    Thanks for your assistance.

    Hello Chris:
There is a reasonable possibility that you have a hardware problem (not what you wish to hear).
However, try a couple of things (if you are able to) in sequence. If the problem goes away, quit!
    1. If you have installed it, remove any third-party memory (OS X is notoriously picky about memory).
    2. Boot from the software install DVD while holding the "D" key down. That will invoke Apple's hardware checker.
    3. Boot from the software install DVD and run repair disk (not permissions, that is different).
    4. Reinstall OS X 10.6 from the install DVD.
If none of that helps, I am afraid you should go to an Apple store or Apple certified technician for diagnosis.

  • MAC OS X Snow Leopard install disk won't install "with this version"

I am trying to get ready for the Snow Leopard install disk to migrate from Mobile Me to ICloud. However, the disk install I received to start the process won't allow me to install saying I have the incorrect version to do so. I am up to date in all my software installs. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

If you have an iMac running 10.7.4 as it says in your profile, why are you installing Snow Leopard?  If this is a different computer then it would really, really help to know something about it.

If Disk Utility cannot see your drive it doesn't look good.
You could try DiskWarrior. It is expensive but can often fix directory structures where DU cannot.
Replacing the drive is also a strong likelihood. If you don't have a fairly recent backup, then it might be worth buying DiskWarrior

  • I have installed the most recent version of Snow Leopard on my MAC, and I am trying to install Mountain Lion from the Apple Store.  It will not install, because it says I do not have 2GB of memory, even though I have over 200GB available.  Please help.

I have installed the most recent version of Snow Leopard on my MAC, and I am trying to install Mountain Lion from the Apple Store.  It will not install, because it says I do not have 2GB of memory, even though I have over 200GB available.  Please help.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
One thing is the memory, and another thing is the hard disk space. You are telling me that you have 200 GB of free space on the hard disk, but the App Store is telling you that you have to install 2 GB of memory or more on your Mac if you want to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
First of all, open  > About this Mac > More Info, and copy "Model Identifier" here, so we can know what Mac you have got and how much memory you can install.
We recommend to buy the memory in OWC or Crucial (Crucial is cheaper and offers the same compatibility warranty as OWC) because you won't probably have any problem with the memory you buy there

  • Just had Snow Leopard installed.  Iphoto won't open.  I'm supposed to photograph 300 people on Friday.

I have no idea why Iphoto won't work.  The icon bounces once, and then does nothing although I see the details at the top of the screen.
I've used it extensively since I had Snow Leopard installed last week.  Did not upgrade to iphoto11 after much negative feedback from my photographer pals.
I did notice that when I opened a couple of photographs to edit them that once in a while a green or red background appeared, but it was random and only happened on a couple of photos.
I have tried Shutting Down the computer, force quit iphoto a few times........Nothing.
I am 3 hours away from an Apple store and have the largest assignment of my year in less than 48 hours.
Can anyone help me out?  Many thanks.

Thanks for sharing so much of your life story, though I'm not sure what relevance it has to your issue, which, I believe is that you can't open iPhoto.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Mac Pro seems to be missing 0.5 GB of ram after Snow Leopard install

I just installed Snow Leopard on my Mac Pro (2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon). The computer has only ever had the default 2 GB of RAM that comes with it from Apple. I know I need more, it's on order. The odd thing that I noticed after installing Snow Leopard is that the computer now only reports 1.5 GB or RAM in the "About This Mac" box. Specifically it says: "1.5 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM". Odd.
Second if I click "More Info..." below is what I see in the memory slots.
Does anyone know what might have caused this, or if its possible to get that 0.5 GB back?
Second I just ordered 8 GB of RAM (MACMEM 4Gx2|KST KTA-MP800K2/8G R). If the above issue doesn't get resolved what do you suggest I do when the new RAM arrives? Should I just add in the new stuff for a total of 9.5 GB, or should I also take out the existing RAM that's reporting odd values? I'm wondering if the missing 0.5 GB is a symptom of other issues, and maybe that RAM is "sick" and could slow things down somehow.
    Thanks for any ideas.
    Jesse

I am running a '07 Mac Pro that has had 7GB RAM since I bought it almost 3 years ago - the original 2x512MB + 6x1GB purchased from Crucial.com. Suddenly, after installing Snow Leopard, only 6GB are being recognized; two of the 1GB DIMM's now read as 512MB in System Profiler, and the Part Number and Serial Number listed for those modules are incorrect.
After searching these forums for ideas, I have tried:
    • Resetting the PRAM -- no change
    • Running Apple Hardware Test -- no problems found
    • Running TechTool Deluxe 3.1.3 (updated for Snow Leopard) -- no problems found
    • Running TechTool Pro 5.1.6 (updated for Snow Leopard) -- no problems found
    • Running system scanner (beta) from Crucial.com - cannot read installed RAM
The only thing I haven't tried is physically reinstalling the modules, but since the computer hasn't moved in months that seems pretty doubtful. If I make any progress I'll post again, otherwise, I'll be contacting Crucial for replacements.

    Hi.
You simply can't. Snow Leopard is compiled in Intel binary only.

You'll need to provide some more information .... what current mac mini do you have? Click on the apple in the left corner of the menu bar, click about this mac, and what does it say for processor, memory, and os x version?
When you say you have no DVD, do you have the mac mini server or is the DVD broken?
You can't do anything with 10.6 Snow Leopard on a PowerPC mini, however, if it is an Intel-based mini, you could probably hook up the systems in target disk mode to install 10.6.

  • When I am re-installing the Mac OSX snow leopard onto an older Mac I run into the window that says select the disk where you want to install Mac OSX but nothing is there to select

I am trying to re-install the Mac OSX snow leopard onto an older I mac with a new hard drive.  I run into the "select the disk "where you want to install Mac OSX but there is nothing in the window to select. Any advice?

After you install a new hard drive, you need to boot to another drive to initialize it to MAC OS Extended (journaled) format and create the partition(s) on the drive. You do this using Disk Utility. Otherwise, the mac operating install process doesn't see a formatted disk to install to.
