Why won't SSH/SFTP work after the 10.6.8 update?

I've tried just about eveything I can think of and have been googling information for awhile now but I figure I just ask the community!
I just recently updated to 10.6.8 and now I cannot remotely log into our Linux machine running RedHat. Strange because my computer is the only one that seems to have a problem with this and it was working just fine before the update. Sometimes I'll get a "Connection Refused" error msg and other times I'll get a "Connection Timeout" error msg. I typically use the NoMachine NX client to log in, but even the ssh commands from the X11 or Mac terminal give me the same error messages. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Any help is appreciated, thanks!!

Next step, boot in safe mode again and log in do this first:
On the menu bar go to the "Go" option menu.
Then go to utilities.
Open disk utility
Click on your Mac OS X Partition (Macintosh HD in most cases)
Click "Verify Disk"
If the results say "Macintosh HD appears to be OK", run it a second time just to make sure.
If the volume structure is OK then click the "Repair Permissions" button.
Shut down and reboot normally.
If repairing permissions does not work, you'll have to try and install the combo update. But before we go through that run the steps I suggested above. I would suggest however to download the 10.6.8 combo update to a usb stick in case we have to reinstall it.

Why won't GB open anymore after the 10.7.4 update?

I recenty updated the software to 10.7.4 & now GarageBand won't open. I try to open a project with it but it gives me an error message saying something about MIDI...I have no idea what to do and i'm guessing it really is because of the update. Glad it is working. As for the ownership on your home folder, before tinkering you might try running the list all, long command and see what it reports:
ls -al /Users
I have two users, myself and test account. Here's what mine says:

You can see that the "francine" home folder belongs to francine, group staff, the same as is reported by the id command. Let's see what yours says. Yours should say Miller, group Miller.
The numerical uid and gid depend on the particular user and group. The 501 is the first admin user created. The second user is 502. The old private groups from Tiger had the same number for the group as for the user, thus the 502 user would be a member of the 502 group. The staff group is 20, the admin group is 80. What you are getting (502 and 502) means that at some point you deleted the very first user and started using a second account, and that you upgraded to Leopard rather than doing an erase and install, as I ended up doing (after getting disgusted with all the bolixed up group permissions problems). Leopard switched back to the UNIX standard of having users be members of the staff group rather than private groups. I know, more information than you ever wanted to have!
Leopard also introduced the new Guest account, which can actually be quite handy. If you have someone who is visiting and wants to use your computer to check their email or do a little web surfing you can log yourself out and let them log in as Guest. The permissions are fairly restricted, there is no password, and all their stuff is deleted when they log out.

Why did AME stop working after the last Windows 7 update

AME suddenly stopped working after the last Windows 7 update. After the initial splash screen, I get a message saying that AME is not working and the program will be closed. Then I get the windows message that it is searching for a solution, then nothing. I am using the Production CS6. This happens whether I try to start AME directly, or queuing through Premiere Pro. I have tried reinstalling the entire package and have implemented all available updates from Adobe. I have no clue why this happened, but AME is crucial to my workflow.

Try to delete the following folders and then launch AME:
%AppData%\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder
%AppData%\Adobe\Common
Make sure to first make a backup of those folders.

Lighting cables and adapters are not working after the last iOS 7 update.

Looking for some help from Apple here. After the last iOS 7 update, some of my lightning cables and adapters have stopped working.
I have an iPhone 5 funning iOS 7.0.2.
I have a car charger/FM RF transmitter that has worked like a charm for years. Because none of these have been made with a lighting connector, I've had a genuine Apple adapter on it since I bought my iPhone 5 a year ago. Never had a problem until the last iOS update. Now when I plug it in, not connection is registered. I've verified the charger is working by removing the adapter and plugging the old iPhone connecting into an iPhone 4 running iOS 6. I've also verified the adapter is working by plugging the charger with adapter into an iPad mini running iOS 6.
I also have a Belkin USB car charger. This came with a black lighting cable. Also worked like a charm until the last update. Now, half the file when I plug it in, no conncetion is registered. The other half of the time, it says this cable is not supported but does not connect my phone or charge it. I've also verified that the cable is working by plugging it into an iPad mini running iOS 6.

Why won't my iPhone work after latest iTunes update on Windows XP?

Not the most technically savy guy. Tried to sync my iPhone on my computer like I have plenty of other times before, but got a warning message saying that the hardware that I was attempting to install has not been verified through Windows XP (or something to that effect). Now, my iPhone will not work. The screen only shows the USB icon and iTunes icon with arrow in between signaling to connect to iTunes.... it is already connected to my computer!

I have a trick to resolve this problem ; uninstall all programs which make up itune such as iTunes,Apple Application Support ,Apple Mobile Device Support ,Apple Software Update and Bonjour. After uninstalling those programs,download and reinstall the current version iTunes. It can help you to sync your iphone with iTune.

Why won't my camera work after I update my Iphone 3GS to IOS 6.0.1?

After I updated my phone to IOS 6, it worked fine. But once I updated to IOS 6.0.1, my camera will no longer work. Sometimes it freezes my phone, and my phone goes through 2 resets. Sometimes it just sits at the screen waiting for the shutter to open, and it just does nothing. Other times it acts like it is having a seizure, and then shuts off and brings me back to my home screen like the app just reset.

User troubleshooting is restart, reset, restore from a backup, restore as a new device. Try those steps.

Safari no longer works after the 10.5.3 Update.

I'm apparently having the same problem with Safari that I've noticed many other people on here are having.
When I try to open Safari after having installed the 10.5.3 Update it goes straight to "Application Not Responding" and I have to force it to quit.
So I figured a fresh Safari 3.1.1. install would do the trick. However, when I try to install that it tells me "You cannot install Safari on this volume. This update requires Mac OS X 10.5.2 or newer." at the select a destination step.
I haven't been able to solve my problem through the things I read in any of the other similar threads. Help?

Develop Module is not working after the latest 5.5 update.

I have uninstalled and installed from the direct link.
Cleaned up and optimized the catalog, etc.
Images are visible in the library and develop module, but if I try to start editing - there are no changes visible, unless I go to Library and back to Develop.
If I click "before/after" the blank screen appears.
Help! This is a major work issue for me!

Does Develop misbehave in the same way for all your images, or is it for a subset of the images? (Do you have any jpegs in your catalog? If so, does develop work for them?)
Do have some JPG, but generally all raw and it misbehaves with them all.
Have you tried making changes in Develop with the image zoomed in to 1:1? If so, is the behavior still the same?
Yes. At different zoom levels. Same problem.
Have you tried removing the *Previews.lrdata package that sits next to the catalog? Would need to do this while Lr is not running. (This will cause the need to regenerate previews, which can impact performance for a while.)
Mmmmm... I removed a bunch of things last time, maybe it was part of it... Can't find it right now. Where would it be?
Have you tried purging the Camera Raw cache, in the 'Camera Raw Cache Settings' of the 'File Handling' tab in the preferences?

Why won't the music app work after the IOS 7.1 update?

Every time i try to listen to my music in the Apple Music app it opens then freezes. Sometimes it will let me open an artist but wont play the songs. I tried going into the settings to see if i could change anything but it wont let me open the music settings tab, the button just turns gray and freezes my phone. I've tried force quitting the app and re starting my phone and nothing has worked.

First, I recommend resetting your iPhone:
Reset
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo

Why don't my fonts work after the last update?

I just updated my laptop & now all my fonts won't work! EVEN if it says it is the font I've selected!
I use Microsoft Word & Excel on my Mac.
Also, the fon't are listed as:
1-True Type
2-Open Type
3-Postscript
Under:
/Library/Fonts/then name of font
/Library/Fonts/Microsoft/then name of font
/System/Library/Fonts/then name of font
/Users/terri/Library/Fonts/then name of font
What the heck is happening? I have NO idea what all the above means.
I just love using FONTS!!!
ANY help/comments/insight you may have would be appreciated!

I'm having this same problem. These community forums can be a huge waste of time. Seems like the hard questions never even get answered. My iTunes won't play my HD movies that it played before the last iTunes update. Now that I upgraded to Yosemite it's even worse.

My trackpad works just fine in any other application, and I swear it was working in mail before. I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and I am running into difficulties getting it to work as well as it should. Does anyone have any suggestions?

In addition, check the MBP battery which resides under your trackpad. They have been known to swell up and interfere with the trackpad operation.

Why won't my email work with the correct password?

tthe mail I submitted through my iPad has worked just fine, but lately, it says I can't send mail because my password is incorrect... Yet I still continue to receive mail. I have made sure my password is correct but it doesn't help. I tried uninstalling my mail then reinstalling it, but same thing... I get mail but I cannot receive it.

I'm having the same problem with a brand new iPad. Have deleted and recreated the account many times, reset passwords etc etc etc. Now BT have said to take it into an Apple shop! Funny that Apple support yesterday said to contact my email provider!!

Why won't my ipod work with the fm transmitter?!

I bought a belkin fm transmitter and used my ipod and my brother's with it. his works great, mine has all kinds of static. my ipod works just fine playing otherwise. can it be that my ipod has some sort of transmitter problem that others do not?

Why won't keyboard backlight work after upgrade to mountain lion - 2010 MBP

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro. Everything was great, but the most recent OS upgrade cost me keyboard backlighting. It's not a hardware problem because backlighting works with lab tick. It's just very, very frustrating that my machine doesn't work the way it's supposed to. Help!

Why won't my ipad work after installing iOS 6???

I upgraddd to iOS 6 on my ipad 2, and got as far as signing into my yahoo in order to include icloud, etc, and it kept timing out. Eventually, it allowed me to skip that step, but I can't do anything with it anymore. I got the Ipad so I wouldn't have to deal with this kind of thing. What do I do to fix it?
