Why won't videos open and play?

Using Safari, I try to open video from Facebook and other sites and they won't open or play. I can sometimes get them to load and play if I download them and open them in a separate window. Also, I have been opening them in Chrome and they all open and play. What's up with Safari?

DebG154, I have similar issues. Uninstalling, reinstalling flash only worked until the next time I turned the computer on/off. If I want to use flash, I have to reinstall every time.
I have a folder "/Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins"
which contains "Flash Player.plugin" = Adobe Flash Player   11.9 r900
I also have a folder "/Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Disabled Plug-Ins" which is empty
I noticed a folder in "/Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins (Disabled)"
There is only one file in there = "Flash Player.plugin" = Adobe Flash Player 10.1 r102
I didn't put it there, nor did I disable Flash myself. This may have been put there by the process of updating the flash player ?? I updated the version of Flash about two weeks ago to current version (Plug-in version 11.9.900.152 is installed) and since then I have these problems trying to play videos.
Safari Version 5.1.10 (6534.59.10)
iMac with
System Version:          Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
Kernel Version:          Darwin 10.8.0
I sent bug reports with screenshots to Apple. No response.

Why won't iTunes open and what does this error message mean?

I can't open up my iTunes. I've tried reinstalling it but it still doesn't work. I get an error message that reads: The procedure entry point kCMByteStreamNotification_AvailableLengthChanged could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreMedia.dll. I press ok and then another message pops up reading: iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 127). I don't get an error message when I hook up my iPod but it doesn't bring up iTunes either and restarting my computer doesn't seem to help. I don't want to completely remove iTunes from my computer because I'm afraid I'll lose most of my music since most of it were on CDs which I no longer have. Help?

I am having this same problem. I took Kappy advice on restarting the Apple Mobile Device Service, however that did not work. I got this message in a pop up window that came up immediately.
Windows could not start the Apple Mobil Device Service on local computer.
Error 1053 The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
I have already uninstalled itunes, all the related programs and I cannot reinstall, this Apple Mobil Device message stops the install.
Can anyone please help?

Flash Video Won't Open and Play in Online Site

When I upload my Flash Video files to the online server, the HTML page opens but the Flash Video doesn't open and play. If I open the HTML page in preview mode in Dreamweaver CS5, the HTML page opens and the Flash Video plays OK. I have tried using the Adobe Media Encoder to produce the FLV file as well as tried exporting the FLV from Adobe Premiere CS 5.5, but neither makes any difference. The Flash Video still doesn't play when files are uploaded to the site online. I have also tried using different versions of Flash Professional to create and publish the SWF movie file, but nothing I try seems to make the Flash Video open and play online. The test site I have set up is http://www.hgatest.org then you can click the “video” link to open the Flash Video. Video HTML page URL is http://www.hgatest.org /video.html   You can then see what I am talking about. Please help. This just started happening about 6 months ago and it has been driving me crazy. Thanks .Ralph. The problem is only on the iPad 2only. I have an iPad 1 as well and it never had the problem. The only videos that I have tried are you tube and the tutorials on apple.com. I have absolutely no problem on either of my laptops or desktop PC's. Only the iPad 2. I am a new Apple user, so not very familiar yet with the product, but this is an absolute deal breaker for me. With Apple's reputation I was not expecting any such problems and it is beyond my skill set to solve it. Very frustrating. Again, no problem with you tube videos. I don't watch movies, so am not a Netflix member and haven't tried that yet, only you tube videos and apple.com tutorial videos. I have to watch those on my laptop. Again, I found a fix to the you tube problem. It was a link to a site. www.youtube/html5. html5 video player trial that you click on and once done, the videos on the you tube app started working great. They were doing the same thing as the tutorial videos prior to that. No such luck with the other web videos, at least the ones that i have tried. Hope this is enough info and understandable. You might check out the html5 site. I didn't thoroughly understand why, but it worked. You may understand it better. I am a proficient user, but far from an I.t. Pro. I have read Many posts with similar problems, but no simple solutions and the ones I did try didn't work. Speed tested well. Channel is set to auto and always different than neighboring networks, usually channel 11. Tried disabling QOS as suggested....no good. I am completely stumped. Any help is greatly appreciated. If you moved the G4 around to make room for the new machine, that could have jarred the processor loose. It's not unusual for that to happen to an older machine, though it usually happens to RAM or cables, not to the processor.
Years of heating and cooling can loosen a connection and cause some oxidation of the contacts; subsequent moving of the machine, coupled with just a bit of thumping or torquing of the chassis, can cause the connection to fail. Reseating the connection not only makes it secure again, it usually wipes the oxidation off of the contacts.

I've recently purchaced a 4TB Thunderbolt drive to store my "vast" music and photo libraries. iPhoto had an issue reading the moved library, so I bought and used iPhoto Library Manager to "rebuild" it. Apart from much of the original data such as date taken & camera used etc, it appears to be working well. The aforementioned mpg video was taken some 9 years ago, using an early model "iMate" smart phone, and opens and plays fine on iPhoto, but I cannot open it with anything else, (I've tried iMovie, VLC players, Wondershare and Handbrake) nor can I share it. I just want to edit it, and share it with family.
Any help would be appreciated...

I've looked at the "tell me more" links, tried downloading some of the movie players there. I'm begining to think the file is corrupt.

It won't let me download iOS 7. When I check for software updates it says that it is up to date. I also went to iTunes to delete the songs from the iPod, but now it isn't even recognizing any devices. I even uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it to my computer. LOL I am sure it is something small, but I don't have the patience for it now. Maybe I should step away from the computer and come back in a little bit... Thank you for the advice though! Quicktime movie HD file I received won't play when I try to open and play it in Quicktime 10.3, it says this particular .mov is not a supported file type?

Large, 5min long Quicktime .mov HD file I received says it's converting when I try to open and play it in Quicktime 10.3 but then stops and tells me it's not a supported file type, a program I downloaded to try and convert the file type also told me the same thing.
Doesn't let me see a preview so I think the file is to blame.
I believe it's a faulty file as it says this particular .mov is not a supported file type but is there any way to be sure?

With my old computer I could easily download video clips, they would open and play as soon as the download had ended. Now I have to click on the download box and click on "Play". Also, when I wanted to keep a clip, I just right clicked and a menu appeared and I would then click on "Save as" or similar. Now there doesn't appear to be any way to save the clips. Apart from a faster and more powerful computer I feel I've gone backwards. Can anyone help?

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

No unfortunately it won't open in quicktime either. It does the same thing that Imovie does, separates it into two file folders audio and video, and if i select video it opens to reveal 8 files that cannot be selected. VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB,VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VB, VTS_01_3.VOB. All of which cannot be opened or selected.
Opening it in Idvd and folllowing your suggestion works and I get a format code of NTSC. Is that the same? Thank you for your time and response.
