Why won't videos play on some pages?

On some pages I get the flash player and can hear but get no video content.

I have a similar problem. More info for my case. ...
iOS 5.1.1, orig iPad.
Play button changes when touched, but does not start playing.
MLB.com, YouTube, and other magazine-style sites are affected.
This is NOT the Flash video problem. Those still load with the play button x-Ed out.
Some videos, e. g. Facebook ones, play, sometimes.
The problem started for me about two weeks ago.
I tried to fix by a full power down and restart. That didn't help.
I saw on another thread to try "reset". I'll try that next.

Thanks .Ralph. The problem is only on the iPad 2only. I have an iPad 1 as well and it never had the problem. The only videos that I have tried are you tube and the tutorials on apple.com. I have absolutely no problem on either of my laptops or desktop PC's. Only the iPad 2. I am a new Apple user, so not very familiar yet with the product, but this is an absolute deal breaker for me. With Apple's reputation I was not expecting any such problems and it is beyond my skill set to solve it. Very frustrating. Again, no problem with you tube videos. I don't watch movies, so am not a Netflix member and haven't tried that yet, only you tube videos and apple.com tutorial videos. I have to watch those on my laptop. Again, I found a fix to the you tube problem. It was a link to a site. www.youtube/html5. html5 video player trial that you click on and once done, the videos on the you tube app started working great. They were doing the same thing as the tutorial videos prior to that. No such luck with the other web videos, at least the ones that i have tried. Hope this is enough info and understandable. You might check out the html5 site. I didn't thoroughly understand why, but it worked. You may understand it better. I am a proficient user, but far from an I.t. Pro. I have read Many posts with similar problems, but no simple solutions and the ones I did try didn't work. Speed tested well. Channel is set to auto and always different than neighboring networks, usually channel 11. Tried disabling QOS as suggested....no good. I am completely stumped. Any help is greatly appreciated. Why won't video show on blog page?

I have created a web site that is just a blog. When I just have a picture on an entry page, it shows up on the main blog page too. When I have a video on an entry page, only text shows up on the main blog page, no video. How do I get the video on a blog entry page to also show up on the main blog page?

The Blog main page has a section with the Blog Summary.
iWeb will generated the content of this Blog Summary based on your content in the entries.
The picture placeholder in a blog entry is for pictures, not for movies.
Here's what I do :
Start playing the movie until you see a frame that is good for representing the movie. If it's a QT movie : save the frame as picture with QT Pro, if it's a YouTube movie, use Grab (press simultaneously Apple, Shift, 4 and select the frame) or use an other app to make a picture from a selection on the screen.
Drag the picture in the placeholder.
Position the movie on the blog entry where you want it.
Now you have a picture of the movie in the Blog Summary.
If you do not want the picture to show in the blog entry, cover it with a rectangle that has the same filling as the page background or hide it under the movie.

Why won't videos play in Firefox?

Videos in YouTube and news sites will not play. Everything worked last night. This afternoon no videos play. I tried updating Real Player plug-ins, re-installing Real Player, installing QuickTime, checking QuickTime plug-ins, etc. Nothing works.

I saw this was asked some time back and they said to clear History. I did what they said and still they won't play. Issue just started today.

Thanks - but not sure why this did not affect Internet Explorer as well. It has to be a Firefox issue; not a Flash issue. I will remove the 11.3 and look back to previous version or just - for the time being - just forget videos on Fox News or got to I E to see them. But noticed that this has happened with Fox and Firefox in the past as well. Thanks again.

I used to be able to read at least youtube videos on my ipad, but not anymore, for an obscure reason. The videos seem to be loading, but a click on the play button won't make it start. Would you know why and how to fix it?

I can't get videos from places like The Commons on flicker to play. Can any one explain why?

I am not familiar with the particular reference you made (The Commons). But I suspect this video expects to be shown using Adobe Flash on your computer.
iPhone (and iPad) do not support Adobe Flash.
There are probably alternate flash players you can find in the App Store.

Why won't videos play on Firefox 13.0.1 but will on IE9?

All the plugins report as current - I even reinstalled Firefox! But for some time I'll get the message "An error occurred, please try later" on YouTube and just a blank space where the video ought to be on such sites as Earthcam and the Science Channel.

The issues with RealPlayer and Flash have been fixed in RealPlayer 15.0.6 so another alternative is to update RealPlayer to the latest version. Ref:

Why won't video play from external disc drive?

I have an LG external disc drive (it's actually Super Multi) that a bought about 1 1/2 years ago when I bought my Macbook air. I am using OS X 10.9.5. I have downloaded music from CDs. I have a DVD course for work and I can pull up the outline and study guides, but when I go to play there video portion, I get a black screen with controls, but can't get the video portion to play. Anyone have ideas?

Download VLC player and see if that allows you to watch the video.

When I go to the page on the Mozilla website to learn about plug-ins and click on the 'Learn More' button the video shows the message "no video with supported format and MIME type found". This also happens on the 'Welcome to Firefox' page.

What exactly is your problem? Is it, (a) your Mac doesn't read your external disk, or, (b) you can't retrieve your videos, or, (c) you can't play them, or, (d) you were able to play them at one point, but not any more.
What version of Mac OS X are you using, what app are you trying to play your videos with, what happens when you do, and what error messages, if any, do you get?

1) The Advanced Stream Redirector (ASX) format is not supported by QT X.
2) The Advanced Stream Redirector (ASX) format is not supported by QT 7 without third-party support such as the Fil4Mac WMV components.
3) Even the Flip4Mac WMV component only "supports a small subset of the ASX file format."
On my system:
1) Trying to play the file directly in QT X using the "Open Location..." option returns the fillowing message, "The movie 'mdsmarttool.asx' can’t be opened because the file is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands. The file may be damaged or may not be a movie file that is compatible with QuickTime Player."
2) Trying to play the file directly in QT 7 using the "Open URL..." option returns the following message in the "Inspector" window, "Movie Unavailable."
3) Trying to download the linked file does nothing. (Aborts action without any message.)
4) Trying to open the URL in Safari returns the following message, "The operation couldn't be completed. A Microsof Media Server (MMS) error was encountered. (-19160) Try again. If the problem persists, contact the website administrator."
Based on these results, it would appear that there may either be an access problem or a file type support problem.

On another apple discussion page, a user--Charlicharli-- posted a link to download and everything seems to be fine now. Apparently we had to check with Lenovo. We were looking in all the wrong places for the fix!

Thanks. I just found it strange that it was one of many files that I ripped from a DVD ( part of a box set of a TV series, and all the others were fine so far. Funny that this one in particular was causing a problem.
