Why wont Apple help?!?! (songs gone?)

I'm an owner of two ipod's (one 4gb Nano, and 60gb First Gen). I'm a music producer and use my 60 for pleasure and Nano for work.
I recently updated my iTunes to the new version. Updating my 60 was no problem. When I went to update my Nano, it read it as corrupted and told me to restore it. I disconnected it and saw that all of my songs were gone, but the memory still shows the missing gb's that I was using before the attempted update. I'm not sure if the osngs are still on there and don't want to restore if they are there somewhere. I had no problem updating it the day before I downloaded the new version of iTunes.
I called Apple, was on hold for 45 minutes and when I finally got in touch with someone, they told me I was not able to be helped by phone and was told to visit the site.
I've scrolled through many pages on this forum and have found that many of you are going through the same problem as I am, but nobody is replying to the posts to help.
It annoys me because Apple has no problem taking hundreds of dollars from us for their products, but when there is a problem, they want nothing to do with us.
All I ask for is some help.

You may first be able to retrieve the songs before you restore the iPod, then reload them afterwards.

You don't keep a back up of these songs?

    About the downgrade method of life hacker, if you're really not good in those things you might actually ruin your pc like my friend who tried it, she lost her wifi on her notebook, i had to help her find the installer of the driver again. this happened after she tried to install that libusb that is needed to run the application for exit recovery mode and other stuff.
    Yes iOS 4.1 is out but contacts disappearing? And who knows what more problems it brings. I was even peeking around the iphone 4 forums it seems that they are not doing well either.
    Anyway mine is all fine except that im afraid to use wifi or any apps that needs internet connection because everytime i do, my 3gs gets very very hot. I have already done the basic solution suggested by apple (factory reset, start from new iphone) but its still the same.
    And another thing, the multitasking is getting annoying, you have to manually close all apps in the 'multitasking background' everytime you decide to quit an app. I guess they should put a 'Disable multitasking' or something like that.

    If you are having problems it is NOT from 4.0; there is something else wrong with your phone. There are plenty of troubleshooting tips in the forum if you look.

    NO YOU DO NOT. Those apps in the ribbon are not multitasking, they are suspended. You can ignore them and they won't hurt battery life or memory, unless they are streaming apps like Pandora.
    It's amazing. For 3 years people screamed about the fact that the iPhone didn't support multitasking. Now they scream because the phone DOES multitasking. You can't win.

    I'm really surprised that you were told to just wait for an update. Are you using a particular piece of software that causes this? If "application X" causes the issue then maybe they are right and you need an update to run the software normally. But let's assume that's not it unless you say differently.
    Here's a couple things:
    1) I get that you are upset, but don't freak out. It's not going to make the rep on the phone help you anymore.
    2) Is there a mac store near you? If so, make a genius bar appt. and go there.
    3) If not call Apple and tell them your problem. Calmly. Not in a "you guys won't help me!" way. Tell them you want to send it in (because you have no store close to you. If you do have a store close to you see #2) so they can fix it. Firmly but politely let them know that this is a real problem. Don't ask for a NEW computer. The fact is, you don't need a NEW computer, you need yours fixed.
    4) If they do not help you then ask to speak to a supervisor and repeat.
    It's very important that you stop asking for a new computer. That isn't how it works. Anywhere. You just need yours fixed. If there really is a software upgrade needed ask them to explain it to you so you understand the problem. But most importantly stay calm.

    Why wont apple let me get an apple ID without a "no credit card" suggestion in the payment method?
    I dont buy my apps and I dont understand why my sister (and other people) were able to make an apple ID without putting a credit card.
    Though I can enter my apple ID account when it comes to the game center, when I try to download an app that problem always appears. So now I'm using my sister's ID, but I really want to have my own. 

    Follow it through to the payment methods and choose None if it is available.

    Why wont apple let you disable or unregister from gamecenter?! Iv done everything I can but games log into it reactivated its notifications aswell. It auto logs me back in...I want apple to let you unregister completely why not?? I have disabled all notifications from Gamecenter romoved all games listed, i deleted my email adress registered, i changed my user name...and loged out but games reactivate it, I also noticed it still keeps a record of your previous score and when reactivated relists all games on your handset again aswell.

    I feel the same way -- I would REALLY like to remove this misbegotten piece of junk completely. I would SETTLE for being able to disable it -- although there are instructions for "disabling" it, it doesn't STAY disabled. I have followed the instructions, removed my email address (although it still uses my email address as the login and won't allow me to ACTUALLY remove it), made my profile private, then signed out... And the next time the device is powered back on, the account is logged in again and insisting on trying to connect to every game I play. So I deny access, "disable" it, sign out, etc, again... ad infinitum, ad nauseum.
    When the rest of my family switched to android, I stubbornly stayed with my beloved iOS devices and my Macs, but this annoyance -- which WILL NOT go away -- almost makes me think I should reconsider. I HATE Game Center, and want it off my devices.

    This has been happening to me lately too.  The workaround I've been doing is quitting iTunes and reopening it.  After that, my AppleTV finds it right away.  Unfortunately, it's a temporary solution because it's happening every time I want to watch anything.

  • WHY does "Apple Help" crash - unless I log in as Root User ?

    After an archive and reinstall of Leopard following some serious permissions problems with configuration of the original install things are working pretty well again - - EXCEPT, that every time I as the user-administrator try to open "Apple Help" from the finder desktop, the blank app window opens and then crashes like clockwork before any text appears in the window.
    If I log out and log in as root user, the Help app runs fine. This would seem to be a permissions issue, but I have just run permissions repair from the install CD on the boot volume and everything seems OK with both it and the file system.
    Is there a way to get Help running again from my ordinary user account without another long and drawn out reinstall of the whole OS ?
    Why does it run OK from the root account but not mine ?

    I realize this question has been answered but I would like to add a little about permissions.
    When a person does an Upgrade or Archive and Install saving user settings, the GID (group ID) is set at 501....
    This is NOT really correct or the way it should be.
    When a person does an Archive and Install without saving user settings or an Erase and Install, or they purchase a new computer with Leopard already on it, then the GID for the user is set at 20......
    I have redone most of my installs so I now have the UID at 501 and the GID at 20 just the way it should be when you buy a new Mac.
    Apple has come up with somewhat of a terminal fix but they still need to address more of these user permission problems.. Hopefully in the next update....

    This has been a problem for awhile. Thank god there is a application fix but im receiving an iTouch very soon and I'm not sure if the same problem is going to be on that to..
    It might be how Quicktime reads .MP4 and .M4V Files but i can play the videos on VLC and Zune Software fine..
    I see other people posting this exact same problems. I see no answers... Apple Knows this is an issue. Why wont they fix it.
    From what im hearing it is the audio that is going out of sync from the video.
    Now my Final Question is
    "Is this just a Software issue for the computers or is it also a Software issue (Assuming that quicktime is the software on these devices) for the iTouch / iPhone ?

    well i got my itouch today and it seems that the audio and video sync issues are only on the computer distributions of quicktime and not the hand held device versions

    Deleting the iTunes app does not touch your iTunes media folder.
    Once found, you need to select the location at iTunes > Preferences under the Advanced tab.

    Had a i pod shuffle working as usb storage device for like 3 months now i ve tried everything to get it back working again to i pod for updating music. I eventually got it working last night someone on icq told me how to do it i got i pod updating music and had module in source listBut i have forgotten how to do it all now. I want i pod to work as i pod not usb s device. Under edit prefrences it says i pod not connected but its in. Ive tried uninstalling software and installing it again for i pod nothing it didnt work atall.
