  • Why wont home sharing load my library?

it just continues to say its loading and it never does

    Hello Brennaelizabeth,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
You can do this in several ways. See the following article for how to transfer iTunes Store purchases using Home Sharing, an external drive, an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod), the Windows Migration Assistant, and CDs/DVDs:
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Also you can authorize up to five computers to play purchases from each iTunes Store account. If you have multiple accounts, you should authorize each computer one time for each account.
To authorize a computer in iTunes:
    1) In iTunes, click the Store pull-down menu at the top.
    2) Choose Authorize Computer.
    3) Enter your account name and password.
    4) Click Authorize.
    Hopw this helps

  • Why did Home Sharing suddenly stop working for PC libraries?

BACKGROUND: Ecosystem consisting of one PC with medium-sized iTunes library (7,000+ songs and 3,000+ photos), 2 Mac Minis, two MacBook Airs, Apple TV 2, Airport Extreme Base Station, Airport Express in extender mode, Windows Home Server 2003 with iTunes server module, iPhone 4s and iPad 2.
All the latest updates installed. Airplay, Photostream, iCloud and Home Sharing all installed and everything working happily, as advertised. I've had other issues, like everyone else, but Home Sharing has worked pretty much without fail for as long as I can remember -- years.
THEN,  SUDDENLY: On the evening evening of Sunday October 23, 20011, Apple TV stops seeing "Arthur's Library" -- my main library, located in the latest update of iTunes, on my PC.
AND IT VANISHES ELSEWHERE: I click on "Arthur's Library" and the B&W "wheel" ground for about ten seconds -- then the library disappeared. Figuring it might be an Apple Tv issuem I opened my Air, loaded iTunes, attempted to load "Arthurs Library" and the same thing happened. Library just disappeared.
So I go to my PC and fiddlewith iTunes.
Turn off home sharing, reboot for the heck of it, turn home sharing back on.
And the library reappears on Apple TV and other home share devices...
Only to DISAPPEAR when I tried to load it, exactly as before!
So I dutifully go through all the other trouble-shooting steps suggested by the oft-quoted Apple Support article, plus some others:
    1. I turn off photo sharing, because I had been doing this over the weekend, just prior to failure of home sharing. No dice.
    2. Power off both routers. Wait. Restart. No joy.
    3. Check firewall settings. All as they should be,
    i
    * I kind of doubt it's a router issue, because home sharing works just fine with the Macs.
    * Kind of doubt it's an interference issue, because Airplay from my iPhone and iPad to the Apple TV works like a charm.
    * Can't think of any updates of any kind installed in between "all systems go" and "FAIL"
ANOTHER CLUE? The little "Airplay" icon that normally appears in the bottom right-hand corner of ITunes on my PC has disappeared. So maybe the issue is BONJOUR? Okay, I go into Services, and Bonjour is running. I stop it, restart it, then restart iTunes on my OC, ditto on my MacBook Air. No joy. And now, as I'm writing this, I notice a...
SECOND MYSTERY! Suddenly, my Mac can't load the library from my Windows Home Server 2003 installation, which has NOTHING TO DO with Home Sharing. This thing has ALWAYS worked everywhere before. Now the wheel just grinds endlessly, whenever I try to load the library on my server.
I'm out of my depth, guys. HELP! And thanks in advance for your time and advice.

Well, the first problem resolved itself just as mysteriously as it arrived, spurred perhaps by yet another Windows patch or Who Knows What. The second problem persists. Suggestions?

  • Why does Home Sharing require an active internet connection?

I have noticed when my internet goes down I have real difficulty streaming content to my Apple TV from my iMac. I can see it but I get stuck on the spinning clock. Some audio works OK but video not. This makes no sense. I shouldn't need any internet to access content on a local device.
It seems to be by design, per Troubleshooting Home Sharing (n.4) "Home Sharing requires a home network with an active Internet connection."
But why can I play music but not TV shows? And why is there not an error message instead of spin? In any case why require it at all? I reset the home wireless, and the modem. My ISP confirmed there was cable trouble at that time. When the internet went back up, home sharing worked.

Thanks for the many many replies, Apple User Community. Apple seems to have removed this requirement with the latest software update (7.0.1) for the Apple TV .

  • Home sharing works with one account but not another?

My family has an apple tv, we've been having problems setting up the home sharing and tried everything. We eventually decided to try my brother's apple id instead of my mother's and it worked. So my question is; why does home sharing not work with one id but works with the other? any suggestions to get it to work with my mother's id?

Try resetting the Apple TV. enter your mother's ID again. Then remove her ID on iTunes and re-add it. Then see if it works this time.

  • Why wont google toolbar work with fire fox 5????? also how can i get firefox 4 back so i can use the toolbar???

Hello,my question is why wont google toolbar work with firefox 5?????
Also how can i get firefox 4 back so i can use the toolbar???

This page is an easier way to download Firefox 4.0: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-4.0&os=win&lang=en-US , as this links starts the download process asap.
I needed to upgrade to Firefox 4.0+ for an add-on that I really needed. However, I can't use Firefox 5.0, as I randomly checked 3 add-on's I had: "Firefox PDF", "Delicious Bookmarks" and "After the Deadline", and none of them worked with Firefox 5.0. In fact, I will have to download alpha versions, etc., to get these add-ons to work with Firefox 4.0.

  • HT4557 Does home sharing work for apps? The instructions make it sound as though home sharing really only allows you to stream content.

Does home sharing work for apps? My young son received iPad mini for Christmas, and I don't want him to have to repurchase the games and other raps I'd already bought for him that are resident on my iPad.

does Home Sharing allow you to copy any item begtween libraries, including CDs you have ripped yourself
It certainly allows you to copy ripped CDs. Just did that myself last week.

  • HT3819 why does home sharing leave the bar as soon as I click "done" after turning it on?

Why does home sharing disappear from the bar as soon as I hit "done" when ATTEMPTING to turn it on?
I have tried turning it off and when I turn it on again it appears in the bar when I am turning it on BUT DISAPPEARS as soon as I hit the "done" button.

    Hello there Garry2,
Here is a little gem for troubleshooting Home Sharing in iTunes called Troubleshooting Home Sharing found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2972.
I recommend starting at step 4:
    4. Check your network connection
    5. Check Firewall Settings
    6. Quit and reopen apps and iTunes
    7. Restart your network router
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • Why wont my volume work on my iPhone 4s?

why wont my volume work on my iPhone 4s?

    Hey Chelsreb,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with your iPhone 4s. The following resource may provide a solution:
iPhone: No sound or distorted sound from speaker
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5180
    1. Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
    2. Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
    3. If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
    4. Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
    5. If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
    6. If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
              - Try turning off Bluetooth.
              - If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
    7. Restart the iPhone.
    8. If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
    9. If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, please contact Apple Support.
If the issue persists, please follow the last step by contacting Apple Support for support and service options.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Why won't my Home Sharing work?

I have a MacBook Pro running Lion.  Home Sharing is turned on and logged in on iTunes and iTunes is running, still I cannot access my computer's Library on my Apple TV (2 gen) which also has Home Sharing turned on and logged in..  It used to work every time, but recently it has decided not to load the Library.  I have not changed anything anywhere, either in my home network (Airport Extreme) or any system preferences.  I do not understand why this has happened.
Can anyone (especially Apple techs) give me a reason for this problem and advise how to fix it.  I would like very much to watch my iTunes Movies on my HDTV via Apple TV as I used to be able to do, but it just will not cooperate.

I have done a comprehensive check on all my other devices (iPhone 4s, iPad mini, iPad (1) and all of those devices have NO problem with Home Sharing.  They all work as they are supposed to.  So, I decided to "reset" my Apple TV.  It seems to have worked.  I have now tried three different times with Appl;e TV and it worked each time.
Therefore, I would advise anyone else having problems with Home Sharing on an Apple TV to reset the Apple TV. You will of course have to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network and restart Home Sharing and enter your account information as well as other initial settings which Apple TV will prompt you for.  But it did work, at least for now.

  • Why won't home sharing work on my iTunes?!

Why won't iTunes let me use HomeSharing? I've authorized my computer, and I've turned on home sharing! I've done everything that I am supposed to do for HomeSharing to work on iTunes! (also, I use a Windows 7 OS)

Maybe iTunes simply does not like you.
What happens when you try to use homesharing?
Is the library shared on the computer that has the media?
Are all computers on the same Wi-Fi network and subnet?

  • Why does Home Sharing not work on iTunes 10.5.3 between a Windows PC and MacBook Pro?

I have a Dell XPS M1530 laptop which is my older laptop, consisting of all my music, apps and so on. I recently purchased a MacBook Pro (latest version) and would like to use Home Sharing to browse my music libraries and so on on there. However, I find that I am unable to do this, after several methods I have attempted in order to resolve this issue.
The Home Sharing on the left column does not appear at all.
I have upgraded iTunes on both laptops to the latest version yesterday, which I assume is iTunes version 10.5.3.
I have turned off Home Sharing, and turned it on a few times.
I use the same Apple ID to log in to Home Sharing.
I named both playlists/music libraries to the same name - not sure if this is a way to 'fix' the problem but I saw it in a thread.
I tried all the above methods, but to no avail. Home Sharing still does not work - in fact, it does not even appear on the left column; it disappears as soon as I turn on Home Sharing.
    Help is very muchly appreciated.
    Thank you very much!

First, each Library should have a unique name, not the same name.
Now, I wrote an extensive how-to in another thread that explains Home Sharing, Library Sharing, how to turn them on and identify them and so on. See if it helps you with your problem.

  • Why does home sharing stop working?

Home sharing with my windows 7 desktop suddenly stopped working about 2 months ago.  I went through the recommended steps online for troubleshooting home sharing but that did not help.  A friend said I should uninstall and then reinstall iTunes which works the first time I connect via Apple TV.  The second time I turn on Apple TV, home sharing does not work; i.e. it will not connect.  I should remark that uninstalling and then reinstalling ITunes does not always work in allowing home sharing to make the connection.  Any ideas to try?

I have had the same frustrations for months. Then I read a suggestion and tried it and it worked, at least for me. Here is what you do.
    Go to Control Panel
    Then click Network and Internet
    Then Network Sharing Center
Under Connections, click your internet connection.
In the pop up box click on "properties" and when the box pops up, say yes.
Then uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 and click the okay box.
After I did that mine started working and has worked even after turning off itunes and getting back in.
I hope this works for you.
