Why wont imessage connect to my phone number

ive tried connecting to my imessage on my mac pro and my iphone 4s and neither will send or receive messages through my cell number help please!!!

Ok, I had the same problem myself, and so did my daughter and this fixed them both. Go into settings, scroll down and click on messages, scroll down to send & receive. you should see your phone number in grey then your email address underneath which will have a black tick next to it (if its the same issue as ours) click on the tick so it disapears then click to the left of your phone number and the tick should appear next to that instead. Click on the arrow at the top left of your screen to go back into the messages main menu. At the top slide the bar next to imessage to off, wait 10 seconds or so then slide it back to on. It should then say underneath in grey "iMessages can be sent between iphone, ipad, ipod touch and mac. Go back out of your settings and give it a whirl, if it works, tell me I'm a legend & I made your day! Cheers

Try this:
1. Close iTunes.
2. Connect your iPhone to your computer and then launch iTunes.
3. Turn your iPhone off (hold down the power button at the top of the iPhone).
4. Then, hold down the sleep/wake button and home button together for EXACTLY 10 SECONDS, then release the sleep/wake button.
5. Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an iPhone in recover mode has been detected. When you are in DFU mode your iPhone screen will be completely black. Remember that if you see the restore logo, iTunes logo, or any message on the iPhone screen, you are not in DFU mode but standard Recovery Mode.
6. Hit the OK message that should popup to restore your phone. Restore as "New".

Why can I receive iMessages sent to my phone number on my macbook but not my iPad?
My iPhone phone number appeared as a recipient option on my mac as soon as I launched Messages on my iPhone but not on the iPad and I can't find a way to add it.

You do not have an app but you can setup your iMessage on the iPhone and switch it on (as it is since you receive messages on the iPhone).
In the same setup screen under iMessage you should have send receipt, send as SMS and also Send and Receive howmanyadress > Click on here and you will enter a new screen.
On top there should be you Apple ID and under your phone number. Under the phone number you can add some Mail adress to be used for iMessage. I believe it is important ot have the Apple ID on the top of this screen and at least one Apple Mail checked as to be used for iMessage.
This should be enought to get iMessage both on iPhone and Mac.
Try this and let iCloud to sync for few minutes and you should have the data on the Mac too.

IMessage sent to verizon phone number not received

My friend has a Verizon iPhone 4S and an iPad.
She has her phone # and email address associated with iMessage on both the iPhone and the iPad.
As of today, iMessages sent to her phone number (for example, from my AT&T iPhone 5 and everyone else) never appear on her iPhone.
These iMessages, however, do appear in "Messages" on the iPad.
iMessages sent to the e-mail address do appear on both the iPhone and iPad!
This is really bad, as she is not getting any iMessages sent to the phone number on the iPhone ( that is any text message from anyone on the iMessage network).
Any ideas? This is so bizarre. I can imagine an iMessage getting lost, but why would it just not appear on one device...

Sent text message to the iPhone - it showed up as a regular green text message as expected
Signed devices back in , starting with the iPhone
Back at the same situation. iPhone not getting iMessages that are sent to the phone #.

My apple ID information has my new phone number but when i connect my new mac to iCloud and my apple ID it has my old phone number listed so when i use imessage on my mac it uses my old phone number instead of my new phone number. what can i do to use my imessage with my new phone number and not my old phone number

Open Messages on your Mac, then go to Messages>Preferences, select Accounts, select your iCloud account, then click Sign Out. Then sign back in with the ID your phone is using for iMessage.

Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

Launch iTunes on your computer, plug the phone in & on the "Summary Pane", select "Restore". This will restore the phone to factory settings with all of your son's stuff gone. You can now use it as an iPod touch. To do this REQUIRES the deactivated sim card be still installed in the phone.

From the menu bar, select
 ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Language & Region
From the Region menu in the window, select one of the preset regions. If one is already selected, choose a different one, then change it back. Close the preference pane and test.

My iphone wont connect to face time and imessage, i've narrowed it down to its trying to connect through my phone number, but when i change to apple id it the screen for the password keeps coming up over and over

i have narrow my problem down to imessage and facetime are both trying to use my cell phone number to connect but because i am connected thru wifi it wont let me. I went into the imessage and facetime setting and try to change this to my apple id, problem is it asks for my password and keeps saying its not right, i have the right one, why is it doing this????

Trying to activate iMessage and it says "waiting for activation" for ages and then it wont activate, even after three hours. It also wont choose my phone number to send messages from, it uses my email address instead. PLease help

Is your phone number checked even though it is grayed out? It is chosen by default and even though grayed out should be checked automatically. I had the same issue with people getting my messages from my icloud email which I never use and my messages would start new threads because of it and some people did not recognize my email. Well, one thing that helped me was to go in and make sure that the email you use for your Apple ID is listed as "Home" in your contacts on each of your devices. I'm not sure if that is working with everyone I am messaging yet, but it solved some of them.
Also for me, I am not getting iMessages on my ipad or MBP with Mtn Lion. I have not solved this yet. Anybody out there had this issue yet?

Why can't I activate iMessage and FaceTime with phone number?

Hi, I own an iPhone 4, recently I restored it and now I can't activate iMessage and FaceTime using my phone number.
I read and performed all the steps shown in apple troubleshooting article about activating iMessage and FaceTime and that didn't work either.
Before restoring the iPhone both iMessage and FaceTime were working just fine...
Why is that? What can I do?

in settings where you have them turned on, does it say waiting for activation ?

I cannot receive imessages on ipad through phone number, only email? I have read forums, confirmed number through manageyour account, deleted from iPad, restartedand entered again, there must be some quirk to why this is occurring.

Did you turn off messages on your iPhone AND your iPad and then start all over again, turning on messages on the iPhone first? That's usually how the phone number becomes accessible in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive at>You can be reached by iMessages at ....

Why do people see my email when i send imessages instead of my phone number

I recently had to erase my phone due to me forgetting my passcode and every since I erased it, my imessages will not work properly. By this I mean, I cant sign in with my apple id. And when i did someone manage to get it up people were saying that my old phone number was showing up. Then I tried to reset again and then email keeps showing up. I've tried everything I can and nothing will make it work properly.

Go into Settings>Messages>iMessage and see if it is activated. If yes, then turn it off. Then do a reset on the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. After the phone has restarted, go back into Settings>Messages>iMessage and turn it on. Make sure it activates, and then go to Send & Receive and make sure your phone number is listed there, is grayed out and has a checkmark by it. If you do not want to use your Apple ID for iMessage, you can tap on it to remove the checkmark.

My mistake... I left a step out.
Settings > Messages > Receive At > Caller ID. Then select the number.
