Why wont java go off my pc and uninstall

1) It came with Windows
2) It came with another application
3) You installed it explicitly
In the third case you can get rid of most of it by deleting the directory to which it is installed. Sun Java ask you for the directory (the default is a folder in C:\Program Files. It puts everything most stuff in that folder. The best way to get rid of it is with Add/Remove programs in the control panelf folder. Deleting that folder deletes most of Java but leaves DDLs in the Windows folder.
In 1.3.1_03 and later Sun started to include Java Web Start. That should be removed via Add/Remove programs first.
The second case happens which you install an IDE or something else which uses Java. The program you install installs its own copy of Java. This is sometimes annoying. If this is the case you have to:
- find where the program put java
- de-install the program
- remove the java directory
- check to see if there are references in PATH and CLASSPATH environment variable to folders removed
I have found the second case to be the most common Java version problem I encounter. These programs tend to mess with PATH and CLASSPATH and generally get in the way unless you take pains to eliminate them as the default (override PATH and CLASSPATH).
The first case is the java.exe and a class library provided by Microsoft up until XP in the /Windows/system32 folder (or /WINNT/system32). It will be something like that for W9x and Windows ME. There will probably be two folders \java and \javacls0.
I don't know why you would want to delete the one provided by MS, just make sure it is not getting in the way.
Why do you want to delete Java anyway? Is it causing some kind of problem.
