  • Mac OS will not accept my login password...

Somehow my account password to login to OSX got messed up and no longer works to login to my account. According to my wife, my 10 month old little boy was mashing the keyboard while sitting on her lap earlier today when the computer was at the login screen. I dont know what key combination he could have inadvertently entered to trigger such a response or how to go about resolving the issue. I am the main administrator for the computer, and my wife has a separate user account for the computer but her password will not work either. I attempted to reset both passwords from the OSX startup disk and everything appeared to work as planned, but the new passwords will not work either. I have never encountered an issue like this before. Any help is greatly appreciated

    Thanks for the quick responses!
It is a possibility that the default keyboard layout was changed, but seeing as the new password I setup was created with the current keyboard setting, the character placement would still be the same regardless...
How would I go about creating a new passwordless account from the either the login screen or the installation disk menu? I literally have no way of logging onto my computer as anyone so far as I can tell. Admittedly Im no Mac expert, so I imagine there are a few other avenues I havent thought to explore. I also reset the pram... nothing.
On the password reset menu when the OSX install disk is inserted, the very bottom option is to "reset home folder permissions and ACLs". What is this? I havent touched it because I dont know what will happen. I also didnt want to mess with the system administrator (root) passowrd, as I dont know what effect that could have either.

  • Why wont iCal acknowledge accepted invites? iCal to iCal?

    Good afternoon:
Today, I'm using Lion and my daughter is using the latest version of Snow Leopard, but this was a problem when we were both using Snow Leopard too.
I send her and my wife and invitation via iCal. Wife accepts and in the event it shows she has accepted. Daughter accepts and it does not. I have the email with the attachment and I have iCal set to retrieve the invitations automatically and yet.....nothing.
Ultimately, it doesn't matter since I have the email so I know she has it on her calendar but it still cranks me. Why do some iCal to iCal invitations not work?
Mine are sent from my .Mac address and go to my daughters POP account and she responds to my .Mac account. Can it really be that iCal invitations only work between .Mac email addresses? Surely not.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

    smorgus,
Or was it because I told Mac Mail (aka Mail.app) that my default email reader is Thunderbird? In Preferences > General > Default email reader.
AFAIK, that is one of the purposes of that preference.

  • Why won't iCloud accept my login?

When I try to login to iCloud with my iMAC Desktop (i5 - 27"Display) I receive the error "You can't sign in at this time." "Try signing in again". I try again sence I install the update with no look. Also the update missed up my "Preview" and "TextEdit". I have tried the resetting permissions and that did not work. Maybe someone out there has a answer. I have other devices that work fine (iphone, Macbook Pro, and iPad). Before the update everything was fine but not now.

The good news is I have Preview and TextEdit working again. Bad news is my iCoud and MobileMe still screwed up. Maybe someone out there knows how to reset or remove and reinstall the iCloud and MobileMe apps... My iMac was running great until I install the last OS updates. Now I am have iCloud issues and keychain error with MobileMe. I will keep plug a lot until I find a solution. I always been happy with my Mac but not the last week. I have ran the keyschain firstaid with no luck fixing my error with MobileMe. Is there a way to remove then reinstall only the MobileMe?

  • Why wont this Plist run at login?

typing this in manually in terminal works fine:
    /opt/local/bin/daemondo --label=thin --start-cmd /usr/local/bin/thin start -s 3 -C /etc/thin/thin.yml --pid=none
I've tried loading the plist in both /Library/LaunchDaemons/ and ~/Library/LaunchAgents. (sudo launchctl load -w /paths/mentioned -- however I get launchctl: Dubious ownership on file (skipping) -- so I use sudo launchctl load -F for ~/Library/LaunchAgents/thin.plist).
    Neither seem to work.
    Here's the plist on pastebin.
    http://pastebin.ca/922156
Please tell me what is wrong with it -- I'm losing my sanity.

if including these program arguments are giving you a headache, how about making a simple executable script (permissions 755) that reads
    #!/bin/sh
    /opt/local/bin/daemondo --label=thin --start-cmd /usr/local/bin/thin start -s 3 -C /etc/thin/thin.yml --pid=none
    exit 0
then making your plist refer to the full path name to the above script, with no program arguments necessary?
See if manually launching the new script does what you want, then doublecheck that the script's permissions are 755 and that ownership and group affiliation are correct. The plist, as gnarlodius has said, should be 644.
Question: do you want this to run at system boot-up or reboot, or at user login? That determines in which LaunchDaemons or LaunchAgents directory that the plist belongs, as well as influence your choice of path to the script. Will also affect your choice of ownership and group affiliation or what user/group the plist should execute the script as.

  • What password is Keychain Access looking for?

I recently opened Keychain Access and attemped to "show password" on one of my iCloud keychain entries. It asked for a password, and I typed my iTunes password, the only password I've ever used during iCloud keychain setup. It rejected this password, so I have no idea what it wants. I then verified that iTunes still accepts the iTunes password I've used for years.
I'm scratching my head here. Any suggestions what Keychain Access might be looking for here?
    Thanks.

I wound up resetting my iCloud keychain. This had more side effects than I'd anticipated (Mail can't log into Gmail, etc.) so I restored the Keychaind dir from Time Machine from a day or two before. After a reboot, Keychain app accepted my login password.
Not sure what was up originally, but all is as it shoudl be now.
    Thanks for all replies.

  • Trouble with login password in Keychain Access

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, my "Login Password" seems to have changed. Not my account password, thankfully, but the Keychain Access Login Password that enables me to access my Login Keychain. I certainly did not change it, but the password I used in 10.5.8 doesn't work anymore. This has actually happened on two different machines
I tried the 'First Aid' function in Keychain Access and got this error message:
    Checked password for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
*Password for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain is not the same as login password*, so keychain can't be unlocked automatically
Login password could not be synchronized with keychain ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain (-128)
Unable to read settings for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
Okay, so how can the Password for the Login Keychain be different from the, uh, Login Password?!?!
Is there any way to reset a Login Password, or do I just have to start a new one from scratch (really don't want to have to do that)?

the password for any keychain can be set to anything you want. by default the password for you login keychain is set to be the same as you account password but that's done just for your convenience so that it can be unlocked automatically when you log in. those passwords are completely independent otherwise. changing one has no effect on the other. that said, unless you changed the account password or the keychain password yourself what you are seeing should not be happening.
did you change your account password? if not your keychain could be corrupt.
in Keychain Access is your login keychain locked? if it is select it and click on the lock above. if the keychain works ok it should ask you for the keychain password to unlock it. does it work?

  • Keychain Access to recover password: "Access to this item is restricted."

I need to recover my network password, which I saved in my keychain, but can't figure out how to get it using keychain access.  I've tried to get keychain access to reveal other passwords which I do know, but I can't get it to show them either.  Here's what I tried to do:
Opened Keychain Access, found the network name, and double clicked on it.  A window describes its attributes popped up, but the password field was blank.  Clicking on the "Show password" box brought a window saying "Access to this item is restricted."  I tried to retrieve other passwords in the keychain today using the same method with the same results.
I'm running Snow Lion, version 10.6.8.

OK, I played around with keychain access for a while, but finally hit on it.  For the benefit of others with the same problem, here's what worked:
There are two sections on the left sidebar, Keychains and Category.  I'd chosen "Passwords" in the Category section, and eventually, in poking just about everything in that window, I clicked on an arrow which expanded the Keychains section.  I kept playing until I clicked on System in the Keychains section.  That brought up all of my past networks.  I double-clicked on my current network's name and once again clicked on the "show password" box.  This time I was asked for my admin password, hit enter, and vois-la! there it was.
The only thing that had happened in the meantime was that I ran Keychain First Aid's verify and repair (found in Keychain Acces's File menu).  I have no idea whether this is what changed things, or if it was just expanding the Keychains section, but now I can view any of my passwords in the Paswords choice in the Category section.
Who knows if this will help anyone, but I'll go to some of the other recent threads and post a link to this thread in case it can.

  • Shift not accepted in windows 7 login password

shift not accepted in login password after powerup but is after restart.
Tried a different keyboard same problem.
Tried left and right shifts same problem.
This has been a problem for a few weeks. Virus?
Caps lock allows login but system is not usable due to keyboard mappings? hotkeys?

    Hello _glen,
If the problem started a few weeks ago the quick easy solution is to restore to a time before it stopped working.
Without doing that we can try to diagnose the issue further to see where the problem is isolated to.
What make / model computer are you using?
Do you have multiple accounts on the computer? Does the issue persist across multiple accounts?
If you don't have the computer ask for a password on startup does the shift key not work within Windows upon wakeup?

  • Why being prompted for login/password when using OVDC, smart card,token/vdi

    Hello,
I'm using VDI 3.2.1, OVDC, smart card and i assigned a smart card token to a desktop pool.
Inserting the smart card triggers a new VDI desktop selector which prompts for the login and password.
Is there any reason why VDI is prompting for the login/password in the VDI selector when using a smart card especially that the smart card token has been assigned to a desktop pool ?
    Thanks
    Thierry.

You still have to authenticate to get a desktop. If you assigned a token to a pool, the ability to be assigned a desktop is based on the token not the user ID. That means that any user will be assigned a desktop if they use that card.

  • Keychain access issue

    Long story short.
In an attempt to fix this issue, just did a complete wipe and reinstall of OS X 10.4.5. So starting from a completely clean slate
Been trying to get into Keychain Access to view my password to access my Airport network. Not using Airport base station, just the built in card in my Mac Mini.
So get into Keychain, select System, select my network, click on show password, and get the "Confirm Access to Keychain" window. My admin password does not work. That is the only password that I have setup since I did a complete wipe. Why can't I get in?
Trying to do all this just to get my Kindle 4 and or Wii hooked into my wi-fi.  Starting to get really PO'D!

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Window Menu item,
Resetting your keychain in Mac OS X...
If Keychain First Aid finds an issue that it cannot repair, or if you do not know your keychain password, you may need to reset your keychain.

  • Keychain Access Issuesd

I am having problems with setting up my .mac account to enable file sharing between my iMAC and my MacBook Pro.
One of the problems that I think I have is my keychain access / password. When I go into my keychain access to check my password on my .mac account, it has the wrong password. I have noticed this when I go to login to my .mac account, it always comes up with an error saying that there is an error. I have to say ok to the error dialog box to clear it, and then I am able to sign into my .mac account with the right password. The password that is listed (when I go into view the password) when I view on my keychain access list is wrong.
How do I correct this error ?

I also tried to run keychain access to verify and fix problems. Here was the entire dialog box of what I got when I tried to verify and fix.
