Most USB ports can't supply the power required to charge a phone.
The original USB port was limited to 0.5 amps at 5 volts which is 2.5 watts.
Your phone probably has a 10 watt charger.
Recent machines allow more power from the USB port but I doubt they allow 2 amps which is what would be required to get 10 watts. Even if they did a 2 amp draw is going to be a heavy load on the MBA battery.

Every time I plug my phone through my computer it sync's it. I takes a long time for my phone to sync with my computer. I was wondering why this was happening all the time and why does it take so long to sync?

Because that is the way Apple made it.
Whenever your phone is connected and iTunes is open it syncs.
If for whatever reason you do not want iTunes to open and synch with the iPhone, go into iTunes and turn that feature off.

My phone seems also to charge 100% when I use the wall charger, but only 80% when I use the USB with my laptop. Both are Apple cables, though the USB cable came with my Nano, and the wall charger I bought separately pre-iPhone.
I'd like to know why this happens, too. On another battery conversation, one respondent said you can't overcharge the kind of batteries that are in the iPhone (nickel?).
Does the computer maybe have some sort of sensor that shuts down the charging a little early?

Hi, I was wondering if somebody could help me.
I have an iPhone 5, I am running the latest version of iTunes on my iMac and my iPhone is displayed on iTunes. It is ticked to wirelessly sync. Both devices connect to my home wifi. However more often than not when I want to wirelessly sync some new podcasts or music to my iPhone (I tick what I want and then click apply) a box appears and says "looking for iPhone" it does this for a minute or two before presenting me with a message that says something along the lines of "the info could not be backed up as the device could not be found". My iPhone then disappears from iTunes and will not reappear until I connect it via USB. Once I disconnect the USB my iPhone stays listed on iTunes until I try to wirelessly sync again. Similarly if I try to sync my iPhone from the phone to iTunes it just says "look for iMac" until eventually giving up.
I had an iPhone 4 before the 5 and it was set up in exactly the same way using the same version of iTunes the same iMac and over the same wifi and that worked first time every time. I have also tried quitting iTunes and restarting my iPhone.
Sorry for waffling on but its becoming slightly annoying and I was hoping someone could help.

I am having the same issue. Since updating to iTunes 11 my iPhone 5 will no longer wirelessly sync. I am operating the latest version of Mountain Lion on a two month old Macbook Pro. When I plug in the USB I go through the steps of making sure the box is clicked to Wireslly sync, but after a few minutes of un-plugging the cord my phone dissapears from my devices. It tries to locate it, but cannot.
Furthermore, when I launched iTunes 11 for the first time my phone was synced, but since I accidenttly hit the eject button in the top right, this button has yet to come back. Even when the iPhone is linked via USB. Am I Crazy, stupid, or is this a bug?
BTW, how did MrTrav15 have this problem on 10/17 a month-and-a-half before the launching of iTunes 11?

i was using my phone this morning, texting and calling people with no issue. my battery was at 30% so i didnt think battery power was an issue but after i put my phone down for a few minutes it stopped working. it wont charge, it wont turn on, it doesnt even show anything on my screen at all. please help...

You didn't answer my question. Did you have Apple or an authorized Apple service provider replace the battery? If not, then the warranty and any post-warranty support are void. Apple will not do anything with the device now, as I said earlier. You cannot purchase a battery from Apple, they do not sell parts. The iPhone is not user serviceable.

My iphone 4S wont sync with itunes on my computer. Message says I need to download itunes 10.6 or later. I have downloaded 10.7 but I still get same message. Have tried shutting down and start again.

Probably your update was not successfull and one of the iTunes components is stuck on an older version. What you can do here is uninstall all components according to the Apple instruction. It is well possible, that the defective component cannot be uninstalled, then you'll need to repair it first. Sometimes even that does not help. If that is the case you will have to contact Applecare and ask them to provide again the version you are stuck on of the component, that is causing issue. You would then install that version again, which will enable you to repair and then uninstall. Once your PC is clean again you can freshly install the lastest iTunes.

It means it's not seeing a mobile signal - what kind of phone do you have? If there's a SIM card, try removing it, shut the phone off, reinsert the card and then restart the phone. If you have no SIM card,, then dial *228, option 1, and let the phone reset.
If you still have no signal, it may be your location, or other factors. Try these and report back if it's fixed or not, and if not, we can investigate more.

I've been having the same issues. Recently my computer crashed a few months ago due to a virus (not related to iTunes). I lost my library but luckily I still had the music on my Ipod Touch (not sure whether its a 2nd or 3rd Gen).
My computer has been fixed and recently I re-downloaded my iTunes account. Thinking that my old iTunes was gone for good, a pop-up appeared saying that I'm using more than one computer. (But its not possible since its been the same computer all along...) so I transfered my purchases from my Itouch to the new library. and I want to re-sync it so its currently updated. The same pop-up that you had popped up on my screen.
Unfortunately I don't know what to do. The authorization thing doesn't help. I haven't updated the softwave to iOS4 cause I heard all the complaints about their Itouch post-update.
ALL I WANTED TO DO WAS JUST PUT SOME MUSIC ONNNN...
tomorrow or soon, I am going to take a visit to the Apple Store.

my old phone was messed up now that i got a new replacement the phone does not make calls.

well it is my phone can receive calls but, it wont work i just hear a lot of noise and the call ends. It a new phone idk what can possibly go wrong it has only been two days.
